We have just created this guide on September 2012, to help international students who are currently staying here with us. As you can see, it includes many issues about your daily life here such as housing in Madrid, how to open a bank account, how to use your cell phone... We hope all these tips will be useful and helpful during your first days in Madrid and in our University. I would like to thank the UC3M Student Unions who have collaborated in this guide: Erasmus Student Network (ESN), UC3M Chinese Student Union (AECUC3M) and the staff from the Getafe International Relations Office.   • Transportation Infrastructure Impacts on Firm Location
    Transportation infrastructure impacts on firm location: the effect of a new metro line in the suburbs of Madrid Lucia Mejia-Dorantes , Antonio Paez , Jose Manuel Vassallo Firm location patterns emerge as a consequence of multiple factors, including firm considerations, labor force availability, market opportunities, and transportation costs. Many of these factors are influenced by changes in accessibility wrought by new transportation infrastructure. In this paper we use spatial sta­ tistical techniques and a micro-level data base to evaluate the effects of Madrid's metro line 12 (known as Metrosur) expansion on business location patterns. The case study is the municipality of Alcorcon, which is served by the new metro line since 2003. Specifically, we explore the location patterns by dif­ ferent industry sectors, to evaluate if the new metro line has encouraged the emergence of a "Metrosur spatial economy". Our results indicate that the pattern of economic activity location is related to urban accessibility and that agglomeration, through economies of scale, also plays an important role. The results presented in this paper provide evidence useful to inform efficient transportation, urban, and regional economic planning. 1.     USEFUL INFORMATION FOR VISITORS AND HOW TO REACH AEMET HEADQUARTERS AEMET Headquarters: How to get there AEMET’s address is Leonardo Prieto Castro, 8 within Ciudad Universitaria (University City), not far from Madrid downtown. It is located over a small hill behind the Faculty of Chemistry and can be easily identified by the big satellite antenna. Nearest Metro (underground railway) stations are Vicente Aleixandre and Ciudad Universitaria, both in Line 6 (the grey circular line). From these stations AEMET can be reached in about 10 minutes on foot. Buses G, 82, and 132 have stops at a 5 minutes walking distance from AEMET. These lines depart from Moncloa Square in front of the big building of the Air Force Headquarters (“Ejercito del Aire”), Metro station Moncloa (lines 3 & 6) is also there. Bus fare can be paid to the driver directly (1,50 €. No change given for more than 5€), or using a rechargeable card which are mandatory for the Metro. Rechargeable cards may be purchased at vending machines in the airport or every Metro station for 2.50 €. Then several tickets may be charged in the card. An airport Metro ticket costs 4.50 €. A 10 trips ticket for Metro or buses costs 12.20 € but is not valid for the airport. Comenzamos con la descripción física del terreno, aquel espacio intermedio entre la ciudad de Madrid y los municipios de Villaverde y Carabanchel, dedicados a tierras de cultivo en los que parecía que la historia pasaba de largo, y nos sorprendemos con los yacimientos encontrados, el elefante de Orcasitas, los restos paleolíticos, los poblados neolíticos, los vestigios romanos, que han proporcionado piezas hoy conservadas en museos como el Museo de Ciencias Naturales o el Museo de San Isidro-los Orígenes, del Ayuntamiento de Madrid.

    Comunidad de Madrid. Decreto 26/1999, de 11 de febrero. Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales para el Curso Medio del Río Guadarrama y su entorno.(BO Comunidad de Madrid 01-03-1999) El Curso Medio del Río Guadarrama y su entorno fue sometido al régimen de protección preventiva previsto en la Ley 4/1989, de 27 de marzo, de Conservación de los Espacios Naturales y de la Flora y Fauna Silvestres mediante Decreto 44/1992, de 11 de junio, con el objetivo fundamental de tratar de evitar el deterioro y la destrucción de la zona, sometida a fuertes presiones tanto de tipo urbanístico como de vertidos domésticos e industriales y de actividades extractivas relacionadas con los usos del agua. En la mencionada disposición se establece la obligatoriedad de elaborar un Plan de Ordenación de los Recursos Naturales de la zona, cuyos objetivos, contenido y procedimiento de elaboración deben ser los establecidos en el artículo 4, apartados 3 y 4, y en el artículo 6 de la mencionada Ley 4/1989, de 27 de marzo. Dicho Plan ha sido redactado por la Consejería de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Regional y sometido a los preceptivos trámites de consulta, información pública y audiencia a los interesados, por lo que procede llevar a cabo la aprobación del mismo. En su virtud, de conformidad con lo dispuesto en el artículo 21 de la Ley 1/1983, de 13 de diciembre, de Gobierno y Administración de la Comunidad de Madrid, a propuesta del Consejero de Medio Ambiente y Desarrollo Regional, y previa deliberación del Consejo de Gobierno en su reunión del día 11 de febrero de 1999, dispongo: Artículo único.
