LOTTO NRFL Division 1 21 June 2.45pm

Manurewa AFC Club Rooms P.O. Box 75 122 War Memorial Park Manurewa Gibbs Rd Auckland Manurewa Phone: (09) 267 1120

This week starts the second round of NRFL. We welcome Ellerslie to Memorial Park both the First and Reserve teams.

Behind the scenes we have had both Wayne Jensen and Albie Alexander working with council and its’ contractors about the condition of your sports ground and from what I am hearing some good news for once may not be far away. I will let them inform you.

As mentioned previously the club raffle is being readied. Now please make an effort to sell your tickets. Great prizes and lots of. Again special mention to the supporters of the prizes.

With so much sport on at the moment, world cup soccer, cricket, rugby, netball and league, it is great to get out and watch it live at all age levels.

So see you out on the park and remember my team in the world cup won 5-0 and Manly are looking good as well.

I feel the second round will bring what we all have been waiting for.

Cheers

Kerry Bevan President CLUB RAFFLE

SUNDAY 24 AUGUST

A day to remember all Those who are no longer with us.

Mark this day on your calendar. More details to follow. Reserve Coaches Comments

Hi once again and welcome to all Manurewa and Ellerslie supporters.

Without wanting to put the mockers on the reserves this week, hopefully we have our season back up and running.

We first started with a 2 all draw against second placed Takapuna a couple of weeks ago and after being 2 nil down after 6 minutes, the boys showed great spirit to fight back and draw the game 2 all and had opportunities to win it towards the end. I knew the boys had these qualities in them but too often haven't seen it.

Last week saw us play Ngaruawahia in the Knock Out Plate and I’m not sure what happened here but we smashed them 8- 0. It was a pleasing performance especially against a premier reserve side but I think there may have been something amiss. Mind you, we scored some quality goals and our finishing was the most pleasing aspect of that performance.

Today is going to be a tough match as Ellerslie sit on top of the league but we have shown in patches throughout the season that we can knock these sides over and will be trying to make sure that we have succeeded in doing this by the time the full time whistle goes.

See you afterwards

Steve Wood

First Team Coaches Comments Hi all, welcome back to Memorial Park as round two of the season starts. Today we host Ellerslie who have been performing well lately and seen them climb up the table, sitting as high as second. This league is very competitive and picking up a string of results will see your league position change rapidly which is what we are looking to do in the second half of this season, to get us out of the position we find ourselves in. However much we believe in our squad and the glimpses of good performances we have put in, the table doesn’t lie and we can’t continue to rely on belief if we want to push up the table. It will take the boys putting in some hard work for themselves, their teammates and the supporters to earn results and get the season back on track. With a week off to rest and reflect, we are expecting the boys to come back 100% fit and hungry to get on with the job. Thanks, Nath, H & Mark

U19

So far the season for the U19 team has been a mixed one in terms of results and performances. The grading round had the team competing against a varied quality group of opponents. In most matches, the U19s have been competitive but only in patches. Attitude and applica- tion (both in training and matches) have been key areas which at times, have let the side down.

The team has now begun the championship round and this gives all players a chance to work on consistency of performance, for the full 90 minutes. From here, the team can hopefully build some momentum leading up to the Napier U19 tournament .

A big thank you to Bhu, the club and to our match day spectators for their support of this year’s U19 side. Spot Quiz-Which player when asked to take the field and run the game said he would more than likely jog the game? Prize-Trip to World Cup final all expenses paid. (T and Cs: Have to have played in WC and be currently at Manurewa.)

Best of luck to all Manurewa teams for second half of season.

Buzzer Mackay Coach

Div 4

Hello everyone Wayne Jensen here, manager of the Manurewa AFC Div 4 side. The motley lot in this team consist of players past and present brought together by a coach from previous times also. They span the ages too from their goalkeeper ( the youngest at 19 back after two years ) to their strikers ( in their late twenties back after eight years ). Some players coming back , played at our club's highest level at under 19's and first team so the skill level is quite high however not playing means the body shapes and fitness levels have definitely changed. That includes the coach & manager ( linesman/referee). All said and done currently the team sits third at the start of the second round with only one loss in a very close league.

This weekend the team will farewell a player and Manurewa stalwart ( 100 plus games for first team ) Aaron Lawrence ( rowdy) who is heading off to Canada to build things. Good luck and hope to see you back, keep in touch. That's it for now see you at the bar.

LADIES REPORT

Ladies team continues to produce good results on the field. We played top of the table Fencibles two weeks ago and even though we had most of the play and possession went down 2 1. For those supporters who came and watched the game you would agree that the Ladies gave Fencibles a bit of a fright when we went into half time 1 all. Across the park everyone was working hard and stepping up to the mark, however a lapse in concentration saw Fencibles net a second goal. Final result 2 1 to Fencibles. Lisa, our goal keeper, played out of her skin but was pipped at the post by Sarah and Natalie who shared joint player of the day. We are now into round 2 of the season and hope to continue to produce great results.

Robynne Youth Report Hi everyone

Welcome to all teams visiting Manurewa today.

Over the last two weekends, we have had some good results coming our way especially with the competition round now in full swing.

The weekend of 7 June, with all of 12th grade not playing, we had 15 teams out on the fields and came away with 8 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses. Last weekend, we had all 19 teams back on the field and had 12 wins, 1 draw and 6 losses. Five teams currently have 2 wins from 2 games going into todays matches. Keep it up.

Remember, team photos begin Monday 30 June. Check the club website for date and time of your photo. Annual Club Fundraiser Raffle will be issued to teams next week. Some great prizes up for grabs so get your tickets soon.

Best of luck to all Rewa teams today.

Laurette Hummels Youth Chairperson

YOUTH PLAYER OF THE DAY Takes place every game day around 3pm after the Juniors. Players need to register at the Youth table prior to this. Any Youth player is eligible to enter the Youth Draw of a $15 non-alcoholic bar tab.

The start of the competition rounds for 9th & 10th grades has seen some teams move between Divisions and hopefully has evened up some of the games for now on.

Supporters please remember to stay positive on the sidelines and keep your comments to those of encouragement as our players do their best to have fun in the rain and mud.

The Small Whites at Bruce Pulman Park are having a good time and enjoying a good run of weather so far for their games.

A change of format for the 8th grade will see them now doing throw-ins and corners to be more inline with the 7 vs 7 format of the 9th grade of next year.

Just a reminder that team photos are coming up at the end of the month and the club raffle will soon be issued to the families with some great prizes to be won.

Enjoy the rest of your weekend
