13Th Panthers - AFF Youth 13Th Grade Girls Division 2 13th Panthers - AFF Youth 13th Grade Girls Division 2 Coaches: Andrew Dempster & Martin Strange Manager: Judith Rogers Team Members: Alanis Strange, Amelia Caddy, Isabella Murray, Jamiee Maharaj, Joshayrae Kahui, Katie Bertling, Kelsey Forbes, Kenzie Dempster, Olivia Yuksel, Paije Lusby, Rachael Barron, Sophia Campbell, Zophie Baldwin Awards: Player of the Year Zophie Baldwin Sportsperson of the Year Rachael Barron Most Improved Player Jamiee Maharaj Winner of the Youth Sportsperson Trophy – Martin Strange Winner of the Youth Goal Keeper Trophy – Kelsey Forbes Team Report This season, an influx of new players meant we had the necessary talent & numbers to split the Firestars to form the 12th Blaze and 13th Panthers girls teams. Several of the new Panthers followed their coach Andrew from their previous club, who joined with Firestars coach Martin so the team had two coaches who were able to mesh the players into a cohesive unit. It took the best part of the Grading round to achieve this but by the Competition round, the girls were working together as team, playing to each other’s strengths. They are a versatile bunch, with all able to play in at least 2 positions around the field. Having two coaches meld their expertise and differing approaches worked well for the Panthers - they definitely appreciated the introduction of half-time lollies, but weren’t so keen on the introduction of shuttles! Several of the team also attended Coerver training and the improvement this brought was evident, so our thanks to Coach Sam, and to the Club for arranging it and subsidising costs. In the Competition round, we were undefeated apart from one unexpected loss, which reminded us of the need to be focused & prepared every game as a win is never guaranteed. Despite this, it was a successful round in which we finished 1st. It has been a great season and we look forward to reuniting next year, promoted into Division 1. It was very pleasing to see how well the girls came together as a united team, the camaraderie and laughter was infectious. We had a fantastic troupe of supporters on the side-line of every game, cheering the Panthers on, and some who went the extra mile by refereeing & running the line (Martin, Brett, Gordon & Hakan). Our sincere thanks to our efficient & organised manager Judith, who kept us updated & informed, and of course to our coaches Martin & Andrew for leading us so successfully through the season. Another team. 13th Missiles. We certainly gave it our all but seemed to always come up short. Mid-season we got hit with a lot of bugs and team members were going down left, right and centre. Those still capable played on. We only had to forfeit one game and that was because our committed team player ended up with a stomach bug. His mother had said he hadn’t had breakfast that morning. Half way through the game we knew why! We had a couple of players join us from rugby and rugby league - brilliant players but always charging up the middle; they ended up being our best goal scorers and even tried their hand at goalie. We also had a few playing up a couple of grades who definitely noticed the difference at this level; they certainly gave it their all. All in all, a brilliant team to work with, unfortunately we didn’t have the training time needed with a lot of field closures, but it was nice to see fitness improve . It was a big jump going from small fields and goals to adult size. They did well. Here’s hoping they all come back again next year. We hope to see you all in the clubrooms after the game for our hospitality. I would like to also extend a warm welcome to our new sponsor Auckland Abrasive Blast and Coatings (2005) Ltd, as well as those who have supported us long and hard this season. The past fortnight our men’s team has had two big games. A fortnight ago the guys played in the Chatham Cup up at Stanmore Bay against Hibiscus Coast and although they didn’t come away victors they certainly gave it their all. In fact to the point a penalty shootout had to decide who would advance to the next cup round. A credit must go to Mark, Scotty, Preston and Sean, as well as the boys, for the efforts they are putting in this season.

This is my assessment of E: [email protected] Scott’s view of the opening three weeks. ADMINISTRATOR Rosie Telford Today we will need to up the ante, so to speak, as we welcome E: [email protected] Jose and his charges back to David Farrington Park. These two squads know each other very well and match up against each other STAFF in an intriguing manner. Similar styles and philosophies will be on Head Coach display and there is seldom much to separate us. I am expecting a Scott Hales very closely fought encounter. Assistant Coach Last time at David Farrington I thought the ground condition was a Stu Widdowson little bit wanting and I hope the last two weeks of rest have allowed GK / Assistant Coach the WCC to do their thing and the players can feel confident and Steve Dimakis demonstrate their high level skills in order to entertain what I also hope, will be a good Wellington crowd. Just one point separates us Sports Scientist in the top four at present and I’m looking for this to be four at the James Mac Aodhagain end of today.

We had 3 players (Hannah Wise, Taylor Frost and Riley Lowe) all 8th grade players playing in the 9th Grade competition. From an early stage in the season, we realised that we had a special little team with a lot of skill and they all seemed to have the ‘never say die’ attitude. We had a fun day competition at Drury and the 9th Grade Eagles went through undefeated to take the title. It was a fun day and a chance for all teams to try different combinations before the start of the Competition round. The day saw some great team work amongst the players and lots of passing and even some tactical play put in place. All the players looked forward to the match days, with the anticipated Player of the Day, Captain’s and Parents choice award trophies to look forward to. After the matches we had a swarm of excited young players trying to see who was going to receive the awards.
