Al even vooruitkijkend: volgend jaar vieren we groot feest. Philip Heylen, Voorzitter AMUZ [Festival van Vlaanderen-Antwerpen] We are very proud to welcome you to the 24th edition of Laus Polyphoniae, which Ereschepen Stad Antwerpen will resound with adoration this summer. The festival of early music, which was first held in 1994, has built up a rock-solid reputation over the years. It is always a great honour for me to present a fascinating mixture of new talent and established names from Belgium and abroad, such as the Huelgas Ensemble, Stile Antico, Mala Punica, Marco Beasley, Micrologus and many more. Ambitious as ever, AMUZ continues to set its sights on the younger generation. Once again, young listeners are more than welcome. The melodious and melancholy production Rosalba, based on music by John Dowland and his contemporaries, a painting by Sandro Botticelli, a fascination with the lute and the deep red colour of pomegranates, will captivate young and old. With the International Young Artist’s Presentation (IYAP) coaching process, we aim to encourage young, talented musicians and help them make a name for them- selves on the international music scene. Join our full-day walking tour, including six concerts, to hear the selected ensembles at unexpected locations in Antwerp. I would like to extend my thanks to the AMUZ team and the members of the board of directors for the passion with which they have put together an exciting and varied festival yet again, with a feel for the dialogue between different art forms. We are also especially grateful for the support of our media partner Klara, which will be 10 11 VRIJDAG 18.08.17 broadcasting a live concert at the beginning of the festival and recording several 09.00 more during the festival, bringing all this beautiful music to thousands of living rooms. 10.00 Next year we will be celebrating: we'll be presenting the 25th anniversary edition of Laus Polyphoniae and we sincerely hope that you will be able to celebrate with 11.00 us. So please note the dates in your diary: 16 to 26 August 2018. In the autumn of 2018 AMUZ will continue to party until December, with Antwerp Baroque 2018, with Antwerp Baroque 2018, Rubens as an inspiration as leitmotiv. Welcome to Laus 12.00 Polyphoniae, dear listeners: we wish you every pleasure as you join us in embracing the noblest of the arts, music. 13.00 14.00 Philip Heylen, President of AMUZ [Flanders Festival-Antwerp] 15.00 Honorary alderman of the city of Antwerp 16.00 17.00 18.00 KlaraLive@LausPolyphoniae KU Leuven, Campus Carolus 19.00 Concertinleiding St.-Pauluskerk 20.00 Concert Stile Antico St.-Pauluskerk 21.00 22.00 23.00 12 13 ZATERDAG 19.08.17 ZONDAG 20.08.17 09.00 09.00 10.00 10.00 11.00 11.00 IYAP-concertwandeling Rosalba IYAP-concertwandeling Rosalba vertreklocatie: CC Berchem HETPALEIS vertreklocatie: CC Berchem HETPALEIS 12.00 12.00 13.00 13.00 Lunch Lunch Foyer AMUZ Foyer AMUZ 14.00 14.00 15.00 15.00 IYAP-concertwandeling IYAP-concertwandeling vervolg vervolg 16.00 16.00 Rosalba Rosalba HETPALEIS HETPALEIS 17.00 17.00 18.00 18.00 Resto Tavolo d'amore 19.00 19.00 Concertinleiding Concertinleiding AMUZ St.-Jacobskerk 20.00 20.00 Concert Concert Patrizia Bovi, Fadia Tomb El-Hage & friends Cappella Pratensis, Flanders Boys Choir AMUZ & Wim Diepenhorst St.-Jacobskerk 21.00 21.00 22.00 22.00 Concert Huelgas Ensemble St.-Pauluskerk 23.00 23.00 14 15 MAANDAG 21.08.2017 DINSDAG 22.08.2017 09.00 09.00 10.00 10.00 11.00 11.00 12.00 12.00 Muziekvakantie Muziekvakantie 13.00 St.-Ludgardisschool St.-Ludgardisschool Concert 13.00 Concert Ensemble Leones VivaBiancaLuna Biffi & Pierre Hamon AMUZ Internationale Lunch AMUZ Lunch Foyer AMUZ summerschool 14.00 14.00 Foyer AMUZ Centrum Elzenveld Internationale 15.00 summerschool 15.00 Filmvoorstelling Centrum Elzenveld Ad tempo taci AMUZ 16.00 16.00 17.00 17.00 18.00 18.00 Resto Tavolo d'amore Foyer AMUZ 19.00 19.00 Concertinleiding Concertinleiding AMUZ St.-Jacobskerk 20.00 20.00 Concert Concert Mala Punica Vox Luminis AMUZ St.-Jacobskerk 21.00 21.00 22.00 22.00 Concert Concert Stile Antico Zefiro Torna & Frank Vaganée Trio St.-Andrieskerk AMUZ 23.00 23.00 16 17 WOENSDAG 23.08.2017 DONDERDAG 24.08.17 09.00 09.00 10.00 10.00 Cursus Davidsfonds KU Leuven, 11.00 11.00 Campus Carolus 12.00 12.00 Muziekvakantie Muziekvakantie 13.00 St.-Ludgardisschool 13.00 St.-Ludgardisschool Lezing Concert Lunch Marc Vanscheeuwijck RossoPorpora Foyer AMUZ AMUZ Internationale AMUZ Internationale Lunch summerschool summerschool 14.00 Foyer AMUZ Centrum Elzenveld 14.00 Centrum Elzenveld 15.00 15.00 Cursus Davidsfonds KU Leuven, Campus Carolus Concert 16.00 Marco Beasley 16.00 AMUZ 17.00 17.00 18.00 18.00 Resto Tavolo d'amore Foyer AMUZ 19.00 19.00 Concertinleiding Concertinleiding AMUZ AMUZ 20.00 20.00 Concert Concert Marco Beasley Contrapunctus AMUZ St.-Jacobskerk 21.00 21.00 22.00 22.00 Concert Concert Tiburtina Ensemble Psallentes St.-Pauluskerk St.-Andrieskerk 23.00

EARLY MUSIC NOW WITH SARA SCHNEIDER Broadcast Schedule — Summer 2020 PROGRAM #: EMN 20-01 RELEASE: June 22, 2020 Treasures from Wolfenbüttel Starting in the late Renaissance, the court at Wolfenbüttel in northern Germany emerged as a cultural center. The dukes of the house of Welf employed high-profile composers like Michael Praetorius to increase their prestige, but lesser masters like Daniel Selichius made their mark as well. In this edition of Early Music Now, we'll hear from both composers, with performances by the Huelgas Ensemble and Weser-Renaissance Bremen. PROGRAM #: EMN 20-02 RELEASE: June 29, 2020 Those Talented Purcells This week's show focuses on Henry Purcell, and his lesser-known brother (or cousin) Daniel. We'll hear chamber music by both composers, plus selections from the semiopera they worked on together: The Indian Queen, from a 2015 release by The Sixteen. PROGRAM #: EMN 20-03 RELEASE: July 6, 2020 The Lost Voices of Hagia Sophia This week's program showcases an extraordinary recent release from the Portland-based ensemble Cappella Romana. This recording of medieval Byzantine chant composed for Hagia Sophia was recorded entirely in live, virtual acoustics, and soared to #1 on Billboard's Traditional Classical chart! These evocative sounds linger in the soul long after the music fades. PROGRAM #: EMN 20-04 RELEASE: July 13, 2020 Salomone Rossi: Revolutionary Jewish composer Salomone Rossi was a musician who served the Gonzaga court in Mantua. They valued him so highly that he was given a relatively large amount of personal freedom, while other members of the Jewish faith were restricted.

  • Early Music Review EDITIONS of MUSIC Here Are Thirteen Works in the Present Volume
Early Music Review EDITIONS OF MUSIC here are thirteen works in the present volume. The first two are masses by John Bedingham, while the others are anonymous mass movements (either New from Stainer & Bell T single or somehow related). Previous titles in the series have been reviewed by Clifford Bartlett, and I confess this English Thirteenth-century Polyphony is the first time I have looked at repertory from this period A Facsimile Edition by William J. Summers & Peter M. since I studied Du Fay at university! At that time I also Lefferts sang quite a lot of (slightly later) English music, so I am not Stainer & Bell, 2016. Early English Church Music, 57 completely unfamiliar with it. I was immediately struck 53pp+349 plates. by the rhythmic complexity and delighted to see that the ISMN 979 0 2202 2405 8; ISBN 978 0 85249 940 5 editions preserve the original note values and avoids bar £180 lines - one might expect this to complicate matters with ligatures and coloration to contend with, but actually it is his extraordinarily opulent volume (approx. 12 laid out in such a beautiful way that everything miraculously inches by 17 and weighing more than seven pounds makes perfect sense. Most of the pieces are in two or three T- apologies for the old school measurements!) is a parts (a fourth part – called “Tenor bassus” – is added to marvel to behold. The publisher has had to use glossy paper the Credo of Bedingham’s Mass Dueil angoisseux in only in order to give the best possible colour reproductions of one of the sources).

  • Introduction
Avant. The Journal of the Philosophical-Interdisciplinary Vanguard Volume II, Number T/2011 avant.edu.pl/en ISSN: 2082-6710 Introduction Jan Iwańczyk, Witold Wachowski What musical past is represented by Ensemble Micrologus? What are its Middle Ages, its Renaissance? Imagined, accurate, probable, reconstructed, stylized…? Someone familiar with interpretations of early modern music and artistic activity of this music group may claim that such answers are formulated from a distorted perspective, as if looking at a museum cabinet. Let’s imagine a musician as a researcher. A researcher who administers music matter to their listeners and who looks for exploratory inspirations among living people and in contemporary forms of musical expression. According to our interviewee, Patrizia Bovi, a co-founder of Micrologus: in this type of practice, music is brought up to date automat- ically. Music notations from medieval codices are only one source, limited in itself. With- out exaggeration, it can be said that genuine interpreters of early modern music do not aim to reconstruct but to bring it to life. They are honest and do not intend to renounce their individuality; they would even say that doubts and not certainties are [their] best allies. Ensemble Micrologus is an famous Italian group who specialising in medieval music. Micrologus has been founded in 1984 by Patrizia Bovi (vocals, harp), Adolfo Broegg (lute, psaltery, citola), Goffredo Degli Esposti (flute, bombarde, bagpipes) and Gabriele Russo (viela, rebec, lyre). The grouphas researched its playing techniques through study of original sources and through vestiges in traditional music today. The musicians use reconstructions of early instruments60.
