Due on 18th March, it is in the same LP-sized format as the initial box and will contain 64 CDs primarily focused on Romantic and 20th Century repertoire. It promises to be a very special collector’s item and is available at a discounted price for a short time. See p.2 for further details. Don’t forget that we also have a wide range of individual titles from Bernstein at reduced prices until 24th March (listed in February), including the aforementioned Boxset Volume 1 at just £76.95 (59 CDs + 1 DVD). Volume 2 comprises Bernstein’s complete recordings of composers from Mahler (19 CDs) to Wagner (Tristan und Isolde), and includes all of his recordings of Mendelssohn, Mozart, Puccini, Schubert, Schumann, Shostakovich, Sibelius, Strauss, Stravinsky and Tchaikovsky. This repertoire is supplemented by the five American Decca CDs, with performances and analyses of Beethoven’s 'Eroica', Schumann’s Second, Dvořák’s 'New World', Brahms’s Fourth and Tchaikovsky’s 'Pathétique'. The collection is rounded off by original cast selections from Bernstein’s Fancy Free and On the Town (1945 / 1946). The recordings are presented in original sleeves and with original couplings.     Wynton Marsalis Wynton assembled his own band in 1981 and hit the road, performing over 120 concerts every year for 15 consecutive years. With the power of his superior musicianship, the infectious sound of his swinging bands and an exhaustive series of performances and music workshops, Marsalis rekindled widespread interest in jazz throughout the world. Students of Marsalis’ workshops include: James Carter, Christian McBride, Roy Hargrove, Harry Connick Jr., Nicholas Payton, Eric Reed and Eric Lewis, to name a few. As well as recording and performing music by composers such as Pérotin, Dufay, Josquin and Bach the ensemble has been involved in the creation of a large number of new works. James PÉROTIN MacMillan, Heinz Holliger, Arvo Pärt, Steven Hartke and many other composers have written both large and the and small-scale pieces for them. The ensemble’s performances ARS frequently include collaborations with other musicians such as the saxophonist Jan Garbarek, violinist ANTIQUA Christoph Poppen, violist Kim Kashkashian and orchestras including the New York Philharmonic, the BBC Symphony Orchestra and the Philadelphia Orchestra. John Potter’s contribution was crucial to getting the Hilliard Live project under way. John has since left to take up a post in the Music Department of York University.
