PRICE LIST APRIL 2019 Carlo Abarth (15 November 1908 – 24 October 1979) Was Born in Vienna, Austria PRICE LIST APRIL 2019 Carlo Abarth (15 November 1908 – 24 October 1979) was born in Vienna, Austria. With an early passion for engines, speed and competition Abarth gained an apprenticeship for Castagna, in Italy, designing motorbike and bicycle chassis before returning to Austria in 1927 where he worked for Motor Thun and raced motorbikes, winning his first race in Salzburg in 1928. Abarth went on to be European champion five times before retiring following a serious accident. However, speed was in his blood and in 1933 he designed a sidecar with which he beat the Orient Express railway on the 1,300km stretch from Vienna to Ostend. Carlo Abarth founded the Abarth & C. company with Cisitalia racing driver Guido Scagliarini in Bologna on 31 March 1949 using his astrological sign, the Scorpio, as the company logo. The company’s stated purpose was: “the production of cars and complementary aggregates for sport and racing cars, as well as changes and improvements to sports and racing cars” The company had immediate success on track claiming second in the Mille Miglia endurance race and winning the Italian 1100 championship and Formula 2 title in its first year. Following successes on track Abarth’s exhaust system and tuning business became more prosperous with the first year’s production sold out. This success heralded the Abarth brand and in 1951, the first car to carry the Scorpion badge – the Abarth 1500 was built. Abarth went on to achieve the astonishing legacy of 10 world records, 133 international records and over 10,000 track victories. Today, over 70 years on from its origins Carlo Abarth’s vision to take modest everyday cars and achieve levels of performance that simply defied belief through the application of design and engineering excellence is more alive than ever. In Abarth showrooms you will find those same beliefs embodied in every Abarth product. Through the combination of a legacy or engineering prowess, advanced modern design and the latest technology you are able to benefit from the perfect blend of prodigious power, superb handling and fuel efficiency, all wrapped up with the inherent sporting character of a marque with racing in its soul. PRESS RELEASE // JANUARY 2018 THE ABARTH SAGA, A TASTE OF THE SWISS COLLECTION OF ENGELBERT MÖLL AT THE RETROMOBILE SHOW Reborn 10 years ago, the Italian racing car market with the scorpion outstripped all the major names during the post-war boom. This amazing adventure will be recounted during the Retromobile show through 22 models taken from Engelbert Möll’s magnificent Swiss collection CARLO ABARTH, A CHARACTER ! When it comes to wizards with mechanics, France had Amédée Gordini. Italy had Carlo Abarth. On 15 November 1908, Dora Taussig, heir to a textiles company, gave birth to a baby boy with a strong character: Karl Abarth, mostly know under the name of Carl. As a teenager, he showed a strong interest in mechanics, particularly everything to do with motorcycles. Initially, he worked for Castagna & C in Vienna, but then his career The Engelbert Möll’s collection path changed when he joined the Motor Thun workshop (run by Copyrights : Rémi DARGEGEN Count Thun). When one of its drivers defected, he found himself competing in Austria’s motorcycle grand prix. He raced the fastest time in the free trials and the qualifying heats: Karl had entered the big boys’ playground. The die has been cast and it was the beginning of a series of victory. His reputation extended well beyond Austria: he managed to win a wager that he could beat the Orient Express on the Vienna-to-Ostend stretch. In 1938, he was asked to race for Italy – the birthplace of his own father who had come back to live in Merano, in the Trentino.

  • 1949 Aosta – Gran San Bernardo (Corsa in Salita = Racing Hill Climb) of 28 August, 1949 Presentation Edited by John De Boer – the Italian Car Registry (10/22/2019)
1949 Aosta – Gran San Bernardo (Corsa in Salita = Racing Hill Climb) of 28 August, 1949 Presentation edited by John de Boer – The Italian Car Registry (10/22/2019) The captions are mine but the document images should be credited to files held by the Revs Institute in Naples, Florida. This material came from the Joel Finn Collection which contains additional items from Guy Warburton in the UK. A blank entry form Proof Of Liability Insurance for Guy Warburton who raced in a works Allard. Unfortunately, I have no image of this Allard during the event but Warburton wrote down his elapsed time. He also recorded some other times. His written times agree with results that were published. Entries in the Sport 750 and Sport 1100 categories. Note that these smaller categories seemed to be of little interest to Guy Warburton and his Allard. The “Cisitalia” entries were (all but race #102?) prepared by the almost-new “Abarth & Co.” The cars were now marked “SQUADRA CARLO ABARTH” rather than “Squadra Piero Dusio”. Entries in the Sport (Over 1100cc) and Formula 2 & Formula 1 categories. “Gui Warburton” clearly paid more attention to all of these “larger” cars. Focusing on the Sport 750 category: #28 Mario Paesetti entered and raced in his “Fiat”, actually a Siata SC, chassis 006. Another “Fiat”, race #8, is a Stanguellini (chassis CS*04071*) prepared by Rodolfo Patriarca for Sesto Leonardi. The Stanguellini-prepared engine was removed during 1949 and a Giannini engine (G1-021) was fitted. The change was not recorded in official documents until December, 1949 but may well have happened earlier.
