Nasce nel 1906 a Napoli, SOCIETA' ITALIANA AUTOMOBILI DARRACQ Che alla fine del 1906 si trasferisce a Milano, e prende il nome di ANONIMA LOMBARDA FABBRICA AUTOMOBILI con le prime vetture, l'ALFA 24 HP, progettata da Giuseppe Merosi ebbe un buon successo ma nonostante altri modelli l' ALFA si trovò ad affrontare una crisi finanziaria che costrinse la proprietà (imprenditori lombardi) a venderla alla Banca Italiana di Sconto che individuò l' acquirente nella persona dell'ingegnere meccanico NICOLA ROMEO, che ne acquisì il controllo totale in 2 anni, alla fine della grande guerra ROMEO tornò alla produzione delle auto e nasce il 3 febbraio 1918, la ALFA ROMEO. Il 1 modello su strada con la nuova denominazione fu la Alfa Romeo 20-30 HP. Gli anni 1920 – 1930, sono caratterizzati da una permanente crisi di liquidità con l'ing. VITTORIO JANO, alla guida tecnica l'Alfa Romeo iniziò un periodo di successi sportivi e di avanzamenti tecnologici che riportarono l'azienda al totale rilancio internazionale, però la situazione finanziaria non migliorava; tanto che si pensava ad una totale chiusura. Intervenne il governo MUSSOLINI che decise mediante l'IRI di rilanciare l'Alfa individuando in UGO GOBBATO l'uomo del totale riordino della fabbrica. Il lavoro del tandem JANO-GOBBATO porterà al risanamento e alla produzione di nuovi modelli con linee potenti ed eleganti che riportarono l'Alfa a livelli mondiali sia per eleganza che per tecnologia meccanica. Nel 1933 ci su una dolorosa decisione la scuderia Alfa Romeo corse fu smantellata e le sue vetture vengono prese dalla neonata scuderia FERRARI. Gli anni 1940 – 1950, passata la 2 grande guerra L'Alfa ritorna al suo mestiere e nel 1946 fu nominato GIUSEPPE LURAGHI presidente di Finmeccanica la finanziaria IRI proprietaria dell'Alfa, che trasformò la casa automobilistica in una dimensione ad ampia diffusione di veicoli. La nuova vettura ALFA ROMEO 1900cc fu decisiva per il totale rilancio con la catena di montaggio si abbattono i costi di produzione si passò da una concezione artigianale di assemblaggio modelli di lusso ad una produzione industriale, dallo stabilimento del Portello uscirono migliaia di veicoli l'anno mentre prima al massimo si arrivava ad una produzione di 1000 esemplari. La nuova ALFA-ROMEO 1900 cc, fece epoca e ancora oggi viene intesa come auto della media borghesia della rinascita economica del paese Italia, post-guerra. Affianco al modello 1900, nasce la mitica GIULIETTA denominata (la fidanzata d'Italia) più piccola di cilindrata della 1900 conquistò un pubblico multiforme dallo sportivo, alle signore della borghesia, ai giovani rampolli insomma con il tandem Alfa 1900 e Alfa Giulietta si ebbe un cospicuo incremento di vendite il che consentì il salvataggio del marchio. Gli anni 1960 – 1970. il modello che sostituì la Giulietta, è la mitica GIULIA, introdotta sui mercati nel giugno 1962 e negli anni seguenti furono lanciati sul mercato molte varianti che completano. anche la sportiva GT. Per completare la gamma uscì anche una favolosa spider, la DUETTO. L'azienda scese anche su un segmento meno alto con l'uscita della ALFASUD (cilindrata 1200/1300 cc), e la ALFA 33. Ancora in questo magico periodo esce per il segmento medio alto l' ALFETTA, nel 1973. Gli anni 1980 – 1990. Il periodo coincide con la presenza in azienda di modelli obsoleti e quelli nuovi non alla altezza della ALFA-ROMEO, tipo ARNA in collaborazione con la Nissan, oppure modelli sbagliati come ALFA 90 oppure ALFA 6, i conti nonostante le innovazioni tecnologiche il primo motore (Twin-Spark), non migliorarono e sono sempre in rosso. Così ROMANO PRODI presidente dell'IRI e quindi proprietario decide di cedere l' ALFA ROMEO dopo trattative con la FORD alla FIAT. (oggi FCA). Ripresa con nuovi e finalmente competitivi modelli vedi 164, ammiraglia, vedi modelli 155, ma la vera svolta avviene nel 1997 con il lancio della mitica 156. Gli anni 2000 – 2010.nuovo millennio all'insegna del nuovo vero ingresso nel mercato internazionale delle grandi ammiraglie con modelli competitivi come la 159, la media 147, il ritorno della ALFA GT, per arrivare ad oggi con il sub STELVIO e la nuova GIULIA uomo chiave SERGIO MARCHIONNE. L'ALFA ROMEO, è stata sempre presente fin dagli anni 1930 – 1940 nelle competizioni sportive prima alle mille miglia, poi vincendo campionati di formula 1 e gare in categorie sport, gran turismo, prototipi, ricordiamo che il mito FERRARI nasce in casa ALFA in quanto Enzo ne fu prima pilota, poi responsabile settore corsa quindi scuderia FERRARI partendo con i modelli ALFA- ROMEO. Uomini ALFA-ROMEO. NICOLA ROMEO. (1876 – 1938). Ingegnere meccanico, e imprenditore italiano senatore del Regno d'Italia e proprietario dell'ALFA che in seguito diventò ALFA-ROMEO. Oltre che imprenditore Romeo fu anche scienziato in campo della geometria pura fu molto attivo nella beneficenza fondando asili e scuole, sposò una portoghese ed ebbe 7 figli si spegne nella sua casa sul lago di Como. VITTORIO JANO. ( 1891 – 1965). È stato progettista italiano specializzato nel settore automobilistico, a lui si devono una serie di motori dalla FIAT, alla ALFA-ROMEO, alla LANCIA, infine alla FERRARI. ROMANO PRODI. Economista docente, politico, statista, da presidente dell' IRI, vendette l' ALFA-ROMEO alla FIAT quindi privatizzandola interrompendo le trattative con la FORD. SERGIO MARCHIONNE.
