WINNERS OF THE 2015 ACES OF FINANCE COMPETITION

Mr. Jean-François Pruneau, M.Sc., CFA Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer Quebecor Inc. and Quebecor Media Inc.

Jean-François Pruneau joined Quebecor in 2001 and has occupied his current position since 2009. With a master’s degree in Finance from HEC Montréal, he has extensive work experience in the financial sector. He also served as Director of Corporate Finance at BCE Media, Treasury Financial Analyst at Canadian National Railway and lecturer in the Finance Department at HEC Montréal.

The skills he has honed throughout a rewarding career of 20-plus years have enabled him to provide Quebecor with an optimal financial and corporate structure, allowing it to achieve both its ongoing and long-term investment objectives. Since he took the helm of Quebecor’s finance department, the company’s value has increased by nearly 260%.

In 2014, his accomplishments included the negotiation, execution and financing of six major transactions:

• Sale of Québec weeklies to Transcontinental • Sale of 250 newspapers published in English Canada • Sale of the technology company Nurun • Purchase of the assets of Québec-based sound-stage company Vision Global by TVA Group • Purchase of 15 magazines from Transcontinental by TVA Publications • Key processes pertaining to the operation of Québec City’s new arena, purchase of the Remparts de Québec hockey team and ongoing participation in the acquisition of an NHL franchise

These transactions have altered the company’s asset mix and refocused Quebecor on growth sectors. They also laid the groundwork for an all-important objective of the company: to maintain full control of its subsidiary Quebecor Media.

Furthermore, in 2014 he completed the company’s five-year business plan aimed at refinancing 2.5 billion of debentures, eliminating refinancing risk and enabling savings of more than $50M in interest per year.

With a view to allocating resources to projects in the most promising sectors, he ensured a financial stability that permitted $235M to be invested in the 700 MHz wireless spectrum in February 2015, placing Videotron in a highly favourable position for the coming years.

Actively involved in the community, Jean-François Pruneau has been Chairman of the Board of the Fondation Père Sablon for the past three years. In 2012 and 2013, he co-chaired the campaign for Montreal Ride for Diabetes Research. He has also participated three times in the Grand défi Pierre Lavoie as part of the Quebecor team.
