Dear Friends,

Welcome to the 23rd Annual Friends of Acadia Benefit Auction!

Acadia National Park is our “backyard” and an important source of recreation as well as peace- ful renewal. It is unique among national parks in its close integration of natural and constructed landscapes, its extreme density of visitation, and the history of private stewardship of this public treasure. The Friends of Acadia Benefit Auction celebrates and helps protect and preserve Acadia’s enchanted forests and other magnificent natural and cultural resources. And this very special event celebrates the legacy of the founders of Acadia National Park and Friends of Acadia, inspiring us all to carry on the work of those farsighted individuals.

A full year of planning has gone into creating a fun and successful evening. We are grateful for the dedication and generosity of the Benefit Auction Committee Chair and volunteers, the Benefit Patrons and Business Sponsors, and the many artists, businesses, and individuals who donated the fabulous auction items featured in this preview catalog. Their love for this magnificent place fuels our work to preserve and protect Acadia now and for future generations.

By participating in the Benefit Auction—by bidding on live or silent auction items at the event, bidding online at charitybuzz.com, or sending in an absentee bid; or by simply attending the event or making a donation in support of it—you will be part of Acadia’s conservation legacy, providing direct and vital support to the park through Friends of Acadia’s programs, conservation grants, and advocacy efforts. The unrestricted funds raised at the Benefit provide critical support to manage key new and ongoing programs, including:

• Volunteer-driven maintenance on Acadia’s historic carriage roads and trails • Programs to engage young people in the park, like the Acadia Youth Technology Team • Partnerships like the Island Explorer, which help protect the Acadia experience

Have fun, enjoy this evening of friendship and conviviality, and know that through your bids and your presence you are part of the legacy of preservation for this magnificent and beloved place.

With appreciation,

David R. MacDonald Lili Pew President & CEO Benefit Chair

Edward L. Samek Sheridan Steele Chairman of the Board Acadia National Park Superintendent

| 8 Lot #3 charitybuzz Salt Ponds, a Custom Able Somes Sound 26

Salt Ponds is a quintessential Old Port Marine launch, fin- ished by Able Marine. Salt Ponds has been well maintained and owned by the same family since her launch in 1987. The semi-displacement hull is relatively light and very maneuverable; it is in keeping with the traditional lines of a Maine lobster boat yet incorporates contemporary per- formance concepts. She is built on a conventional molded fiberglass hull while the interior construction consists primarily of wood. It rises gradually forward intersect- ing a lovely stem line; the high bow provides a generous forward storage locker for a day boat and wards off the unwanted spray often caused by the prevailing chop. There is a canvas supported by bows that covers the cockpit coaming, providing excellent shelter from the inclement weather as well as protection while on the mooring. Includes a custom galvanized roll-on trailer, a full boat cover, one year of winter storage, and a of varnish next spring donated by John Williams Boat Company in Hall Quarry. With a recent sanding of her deck and a sea trial by John Williams Boat Company, the boat is ready for a lucky family to around MDI during the warm summer months.
