Diaconal Policies for the Ordained
POLICY MANUAL FOR THE DIACONATE DIOCESE OF BEAUMONT (12-1-1997) (Rev. 8-1-2012) INTRODUCTION TO DIOCESAN POLICIES REGARDING THE DIACONATE The Second Vatican Council restored the diaconate to the Latin Church "as a proper and permanent rank of the hierarchy" (cf. Lumen Gentium, #29) This vocation to the diaconate is a great gift of God to the Church and for this reason is "an important enrichment for the Church's mission" (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church #1571). "Catholic doctrine, expressed in liturgy, Magisterium and the constant practice of the Church, recognizes that there are two degrees of ministerial participation in the priesthood of Christ: the episcopacy and the presbyterate. The diaconate is intended to help and serve them.... Catholic doctrine also teaches that the degrees of priestly participation (episcopate and presbyterate) and the degree of service (diaconate) are all three conferred by a sacramental act called 'ordination', that is, by the Sacrament of Holy Orders" (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church #1554). By the imposition of the Bishop's hands and the specific prayer of consecration, the Deacon receives a particular configuration to Christ, the Head and shepherd of the Church, who, for love of the Father, made himself the least and the servant of all (cf. Mk 10: 43-45; Mt 20:28; 1 Pt 5:3). Sacramental grace gives Deacons the necessary strength to serve the People of God in the "diakonia" of liturgy, of the Word and of charity, in communion with the Bishop and his presbyterate (cf. Catechism of the Catholic Church, # 1588). -

The Revision of Canon Law: Theological Implications Thomas J
THE REVISION OF CANON LAW: THEOLOGICAL IMPLICATIONS THOMAS J. GREEN The Catholic University of America HE SECOND Vatican Council profoundly desired to bring the Church Tup to date (aggiornamento) and make it a more vital instrument of God's saving presence in a rapidly changing world. Crucial to the revital- ization of the Church's mission was the reform of its institutional struc tures. Understandably, then, a significant aspect of postconciliar reform has been an unprecedented effort to reform canon law. Indeed, the time- honored relationship between total ecclesial renewal and canonical reform was recognized by Pope John XXIII in his calling for the revision of canon law as early as January 1959, when he announced the forthcoming Second Vatican Council.1 Two decades have elapsed since that initial call for canonical reform, and the process of revising the Code of Canon Law (henceforth Code) seems to have reached a critical stage. A consideration of some key moments in that process should help one gain a better perspective on the present status of canonical reform.2 The Pontifical Commission for the Revision of the Code of Canon Law (henceforth Code Commission) was established by John XXIII on March 20, 1963.3 However, it began to function only after the Council, since a principal aspect of its mandate was to reform the Code in light of conciliar principles. Only then could the Code be an instrument finely adapted to the Church's life and mission.4 On November 20, 1965 Pope Paul VI 1 See AAS 51 (1959) 65-69. See also J. -
Significance of Learning Non-Verbal Communication
Proceedings of INTCESS2018- 5th International Conference on Education and Social Sciences 5-7 February 2018- Istanbul, Turkey SIGNIFICANCE OF LEARNING NON-VERBAL COMMUNICATION Shuchi* Assist. Prof. Dr., National Institute of Technology Mizoram, India, [email protected] Abstract In this paper, an attempt has been made to analyze the importance of learning non-verbal communication for the students. Wordless communication depends upon decoding the sign language in the desired manner. Verbal communication becomes dull if the speaker has a listless face and awkward body language which makes the conversation boring and bizarre. Sometimes speakers’ lackadaisical face creates confusion in judging his/her mood. This problem has been identified in the classroom among the students when they are unable to give the suitable or desired expressions. To perform this research, data have been collected from 100 students by using questionnaire method about the importance of learning non-verbal communication for them. It incorporates kinesics, proxemics, paralanguage, haptics, and chronemics. It is suggested that these cues should be used with great care in conversation. As improper use of sign language may spoil the originality and essence of the message and will create a barrier in getting a positive feedback from the receiver. The study revealed that students were unaware about the proper use of non-verbal cues, as a result, they were unable to present themselves properly during their academic presentation and job interview. Thus the findings reveal the importance of non-verbal communication and stressed upon the inclusion of its study as a requirement of present scenario. Keywords: Non-Verbal Communication (NVC), kinesics, Proxemics, Paralanguage. -

The Ohio State University Disaster Research Center MISCELLANEOUS REPORT #6 THE DISASTER RESEARCH CENTER SIMULATION STUDIES OF ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOR UNDER STRESS DRC STAFF REPORT 1967 Research Performed Under Air Force Office of Scientific Research Grant AF-AFOSR 572-64 to 67 FOR E'ti ORD From 1964 through 1967 a series of related studies were carried on by the Disaster Research Center (DRC)in the Behavioral Sciences Laboratory at The Ohio State University. This report summarises that research and the conclusion of one phase of the work effort undertaken under U. S. Air Force Office of Scientific Research Grant #AF-AFOSR-572-64, -65, -66 and -67. The report also indicates the new direction of research suggested by the earlier studies, some of the pilot work, and new investigations projected. While practically every member of the DRC staff, at one time or another, participated in different phases of the research conducted, the core of the actual laboratory work was carried on primarily by certain members of the professional staff. These are listed in Appendix L Furthermore, while Professor Eugene Haas (now at the University of Colorado) and I (only in the last stage) had overall supervision of the studies, the day-to-day activities were initially under the direction of Professor Thomas E. Drabek (now at the University of Denver), then under Professor Robert Muzzy (now at Florida State University), and for the last study under Professor Robert Roth, the current DRC Laboratory Director and a member of the sociology faculty. m Chapter I briefly describes the general research projected in the original '. -

John Simm ~ 47 Screen Credits and More
John Simm ~ 47 Screen Credits and more The eldest of three children, actor and musician John Ronald Simm was born on 10 July 1970 in Leeds, West Yorkshire and grew up in Nelson, Lancashire. He attended Edge End High School, Nelson followed by Blackpool Drama College at 16 and The Drama Centre, London at 19. He lives in North London with his wife, actress Kate Magowan and their children Ryan, born on 13 August 2001 and Molly, born on 9 February 2007. Simm won the Best Actor award at the Valencia Film Festival for his film debut in Boston Kickout (1995) and has been twice BAFTA nominated (to date) for Life On Mars (2006) and Exile (2011). He supports Man U, is "a Beatles nut" and owns seven guitars. John Simm quotes I think I can be closed in. I can close this outer shell, cut myself off and be quite cold. I can cut other people off if I need to. I don't think I'm angry, though. Maybe my wife would disagree. I love Manchester. I always have, ever since I was a kid, and I go back as much as I can. Manchester's my spiritual home. I've been in London for 22 years now but Manchester's the only other place ... in the country that I could live. You never undertake a project because you think other people will like it - because that way lies madness - but rather because you believe in it. Twitter has restored my faith in humanity. I thought I'd hate it, but while there are lots of knobheads, there are even more lovely people. -

March 2018 Thessaloniki – Greece v vi Abstract Jewellery is considered to be the epitome of beauty and luster. Thousands of years ago, man was creating unique jewel pieces, on the basis of ornamentation of the body, demonstration of social status and expression of socio-economic and cultural aspects of their life. Forms depicting nature, scarce or everyday materials, processing methods and fabrication techniques of the past, are still in practice today, and if combined with contemporary jewellery practices, the results present opportunities for design innovation. Technology-enhanced jewellery is entering the market, gaining market share and positioning themselves next to widely-known branded enterprises. The Millennials seem to respond positively to this technological call, showing interest towards augmented jewellery pieces that offer enhanced features when compared to mere adornments. -

The Progression of the Field of Kinesics Megan Waiflein Abstract Kinesics, a term coined by anthropologist Ray Birdwhistell, is the study nonverbal communication. Nonverbal communication is primarily conducted through the use of gestures, facial expressions, and body language. These sometimes subtle cues are estimated to convey as much as seventy percent of the context of a conversation. In this thesis, I review the origin of the field of kinesics in anthropology, the development of subfields, its introduction into other various fields of study, and its significance today. Using citation analysis, I show the movement kinesics through various disciplines. This significant field of research has progressed from a research topic centered in anthropology to a subject studied by psychologists, linguists, and professional speakers. An in-depth examination of the available literature shows the major contributions of kinesics scholarship in anthropology and in other fields. -
Childhood Choice…
06/02/2015 And the winner is…The Theory of Everything and The Imitation Game Whether or not they win a BAFTA the main locations for this year’s two leading BAFTA contenders are already winners in terms of house price rises To coincide with the 2015 BAFTA awards on Sunday 8 February, Halifax looked at the house prices in the main locations for 20 major UK films to see who’s scooped the gong for best performance and who’s picked up the award for best supporting role. In the past five years house prices around where this year’s two main contenders for film awards were set saw the biggest house prices rises of all 20 locations analysed. Prices in Cambridge (The Theory of Everything) have risen 26% and prices in Milton Keynes (The Imitation Game) have gone up 25%. Having a film associated with where you live is no guarantee of high house prices though as while both top performers have seen prices rise by more than their regional averages since 2009 only seven of the 20 locations analysed have done the same [Table 1]. House price rises in film locations over the last 10 years (2004-2014) 1983 classic Local Hero, which was largely filmed in Aberdeenshire, has been the strongest performing film location over the past ten years. The 86% rise in house prices largely reflects the strength of the local oil and gas based economy, which was featured in the film. Both The Theory of Everything (39%) and The Imitation Game (26%) again feature in the top five.
