General remarks:

All accidentals are notated traditionally (they apply within the measure).

Quartet-tone accidentals: quarter sharp

flute / piccolo:

In the first section (Senza misura, quasi improvisando) as well as in the last one (F, Adagio) the rhythm values are approximate.

(1/2 air) – the sound should contain a lot of air but the pitch should be still recognizable

a very rapid repetition of the indicated figure so many times that the indicated dynamics is reached

(air) – only air without any pitch play the bottom line and sing the upper line simultaneously

whistle tone effect on the harmonics of the indicated fundamental pitch (if the harmonics are not audible enough, the fundamental can be transposed one or two octaves higher) repetition of the indicated pitch , with accellerando and crescendo jet whistle (or the highest possible pitch)

Sings concerning the use of the right pedal:

full down pedal

half down pedal, depending on the context: graduation of the dynamics (A section) or catch

the reverberation (F section)

release pedal

play on the keyboard and dump the strings simultaneously with the other hand inside the instruments on the strings (if the construction of

the frame makes the dumping impossible, the figure may be transposed)

soundlessly press and hold the keys; the bass notes in those sections are to be played quite, however, loud enough to make the harmonics sound; the right pedal may be used in order to catch the reverberation

cluster on black keys in the suggested register

a mixed cluster of small range in the suggested register played with one hand; damp the strings simultaneously with the other hand inside on the strings
