LHPS Middle School Code for 2017-2018

Realizing that a relationship exists between standards of dress and behavior/performance and that high standards of dress foster a positive self-image, Lake Highland Preparatory School maintains certain expectations which result in the following guidelines of student dress. Students are expected to dress and groom themselves in a way, which reflects neatness, moderation and appropriateness for school. Lake Highland Preparatory School students are also expected to adhere to the spirit of the specified guidelines which reflect conservative standards of acceptability. Adherence to the must be maintained from the student's arrival on campus to his/her departure. Students who are not in compliance with dress code and cannot bring themselves into compliance without leaving campus may be sent home. Time out of class will be recorded as unexcused. All dress code questions will be decided at the discretion of the Dean of Students.

ALL dress code MUST be purchased from our supplier, DENNIS for the 2017-2018 school year. Students at Lake Highland Preparatory School are expected to dress and groom themselves in a way which reflects neatness, moderation, and appropriateness for school. Adherence to the dress code must be maintained throughout the school day.

Students who are not in compliance with the dress code and cannot bring themselves into compliance while on campus may be sent home or a parent will be required to bring in the proper . Every student is required to be in full dress code compliance the first day of school and remain so the rest of the school year.

Dress Code Requirements: All Students: For colder weather, there are a number of options offered by our clothing vendors. The Source also has many LHPS outerwear options.

Visible tattoos and body-piercings are not permitted.

Hats, , bandanas, are not permitted during the school day unless approved by the Dean.

Undergarments may not be visible.

Shoes: Athletic may be worn every day except Wednesday. They must be in good repair; those with shoelaces must be tied. No backless styles or ; colors must be conservative. : Must be solid white or black, with no writing or drawing.

Ladies: The long or short sleeve must come over the of the or slacks with no midriff showing. Only the top button of the blouse may be unbuttoned.

Shorts must be no shorter than mid-thigh and may not to be rolled up.

Earrings may be worn in the bottom of the earlobe only. Gauge, plugs and tunnel style are not allowed. If makeup is worn, it must be worn in a conservative manner.

Young Men: Earrings are not allowed to be worn on campus or at school sponsored activities.

Hair – Hair must be worn in a conservative, traditional style, neatly groomed and evenly tapered Young Men: or blocked. Hair must be above the collar in the back and above the eyebrows in the front. Young men must be clean-shaven each day. Sideburns are not permitted past mid ear. No unnatural hair colors or patterns cut into the scalp. Hair may not be worn in dreadlocks.

Hair – Ladies: Hair must be worn in a traditional, conservative manner. No unnatural hair colors.

If Dennis garments are altered and do not reflect the style and/or design of the original garment, the garment may not be in compliance with the dress code and will not be permitted. All dress code questions are decided at the discretion of the Dean of Students.

Special Days:

1. Athletic Days-Students representing LHPS as members of athletic teams may, on days of team competition only, wear their team with daily dress options of Dennis //slacks. Team jerseys or are not to be worn on Wednesdays. Members of athletic teams that choose not to wear their team’s uniform or team shirt must follow the Dress Code for that school day. Team polo shirts with a collar are considered team spirit shirts and may not be worn on normal dress days.

2. On college t-shirt day, students may wear an appropriate, college t-shirt and in accordance with Spirit Day attire guidelines.

3. Students not participating in Spirit or Special Days are required to follow the Dress Code for that school day.

Spirit and special days are a privilege. Failure to abide by the Spirit and Special Day dress code may result in the loss of the privilege.

Cold Weather Dress Days:

The LHPS community will be notified of cold weather dress days, ideally by 6:00pm the day before. Students may wear Dennis uniform shirts, long pants or long slacks and LHP outerwear, only.

Athletic Attire:

Students exercising individually or part of a team sport while on campus or at LHPS sponsored events are expected to maintain the same high standards of dress consistent with our culture and dress code. Clothing should be modest, well-fitting and appropriate for each particular activity and free of any profanity, obscenities or alcohol or drug references. Males are to wear shirts, with or without sleeves while on campus with the exception of the pool area. Females should wear appropriate outerwear, not use athletic as an outer- garment and attire should include shirts with sleeves and that overlap the of their shorts or pants. Shorts should be of the appropriate length and fit properly. Swimwear should be one piece or have a cover that meets the hips. All clothing should cover the body in a modest manner.

* The grey pencil skirt will no longer be an option for girls entering 7th grade. 8th grade girls will be permitted to wear the pencil skirt through the 2017-2018 school year provided it fits appropriately. Beginning with the 2018-2019 school year, pencil skirts will no longer be an option for our middle school girls.
