JONATHAN MCCASLIN (Drums) was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan. Jonathan began playing the drums at the age of nine. He progressed through the Regina Lions Junior Band and the music program at his high school, Campbell Collegiate, soon developing a passion for playing the drums and jazz. Ultimately, Jon’s interest in music led him to enroll in the Jazz Studies program at McGill University, graduating with distinction in 1999. While at McGill Jon had the opportunity to study with some of the finest jazz educators in the country including Gordon Foote, Kevin Dean, Jan Jarcyzk, Chris McCann, Andre White, Michel Lambert and Dave Laing. He also attended the prestigious summer jazz workshop presented by the Banff Centre for the Arts in 1997, where he performed with Canadian jazz greats JONATHAN Hugh Fraser, Don Thompson and Kenny Wheeler. McCaslin recently completed his Doctoral studies through the University of Toronto, completing his dissertation on the conceptualization of contemporary melodic jazz drumming. He is currently based in Calgary, Alberta where he maintains a busy performing and teaching schedule across Canada. ANDY ANDY KING (Trumpet) Montreal-based trumpeter, composer and educator Andy King has for many years been an in-demand talent in Canada and internationally. He has performed with Nikki Yanofsky, The Barr Brothers, Juno award winners Bell Orchestre, The Luyas, Stars, Groenland, Corneille, the Christine Jensen Big Band, the Joe Sullivan Big Band, as well as Eric Lapointe, Pierre Lapointe and Damien Robitaille, among others. He has recorded with many groups and artists including Pierre Lapointe, Nikki Yanofsky, The Luyas, Groenland, Corneille, Dr Noh, Ensemble en Pieces, and Hugo Lapointe. Andy studied at McGill University where he earned bachelor and master’s degrees in jazz, as well as a bachelor degree in music education. While there he studied with Jan Jarczyk, Joe Sullivan, Kevin Dean, Ron Di Lauro, and Remi Bolduc. Also, in 1998, while attending the Banff Center for the Arts’ Jazz Workshop, he had the opportunity to study with Dave Liebman, Kenny Wheeler and Kenny Werner. Andy is the leader of the Andy King Group that released the album “Modern Fiction” to rave reviews, and won the Prix Francois-Marcaurelle award for best performance at the OFF Jazz Festival. In 2015, the group performed and competed in the Montreal International Jazz Festival.

DONNY KENNEDY (Alto Saxophone) Originally from Regina, Saskatchewan, 39-year-old Donny Kennedy moved to Montreal, Quebec in DONNY 1995 to pursue a jazz performance degree at McGill University. During his stay as an undergraduate student, he was the recipient of the David Holt award for academic standing in jazz. He was also a member of the prestigious McGill Jazz Orchestra 1 with which he performed in Mexico, New York, Toronto, Quebec City and Banff. He also recorded three albums with the group (Something Personal, Sang Froid, and Conundrum). After graduating with high distinction in jazz saxophone, Donny continued his studies at McGill. He was awarded the graduate level entry scholarship to pursue a Master of Music in Jazz Performance. Donny received his Master’s degree in April of 2001. Donny teaches TRENT at McGill University, St. George’s School of Montreal and Vanier College. At McGill, he has taught Basic Jazz Arranging, Jazz Saxophone, Jazz Materials, Basic Materials of Jazz, Jazz Orchestra III, Jazz Philosophy and Instruction, and Jazz Combo. He is also the Jazz Combo Coordinator at McGill University. Kennedy has also taught Saxophone at Bishop’s University. He has also directed the Jazz Ensemble at Camp Musicale d’Asbestos (English session) and is a regular faculty member of the annual Prairielands Jazz Camp in Regina, Saskatchewan.

TRENT RESCHNY (Tenor Saxophone) After 15 years in Toronto, Trent and his family have recently returned to Regina to be close to their families here. Trent is a saxophonist and graduate of U of T’s Jazz Performance program. While there he played lead tenor in the top big band, won five scholarships, and graduated with Honours. Trent has performed across Canada with artists including Jully Black, at the Junos, in thirty nine theatre productions, five cruise ships, two seasons with the circus, and hundreds of weddings and events. In addition to Jully’s band he has also played and recorded with popular Canadian artists Matt Dusk, Kardinal Offishal, Shad, Luke McMaster, Theo Tams, Valery Gore, and with visiting American artists The Temptations, Don Rickles, Joe Piscopo, Victoria Jackson, Tom Wopat & John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard), Bob Newhart and more

DOMINIC GHIGLIONE (Trombone) is a first year student at the University of Regina pursuing a Bachelor Music Performance/Music Education DOMINIC degree. He started playing trombone at age 12 in the Regina Catholic Schools Band program and graduated from Dr. Martin LeBoldus High School. Dominic has participated in the Regina Music Festival for the past five years, earning several first place honours and scholarships for his performances. He has been recommended for provincial competition several times and has won the Colin Grunert Brass Memorial Scholarship twice. Mr. Ghiglione was chosen as the outstanding soloist to perform for the Regina Catholic Band Days Grand Concert in 2011, CARLO 2015, and 2016. He also placed second at the Regina Musical Club Recital Competition. He was awarded the David Gelinas Jazz Scholarship with the Regina Catholic Schools. Dominic was privileged to be awarded the John Griffiths Low Brass Entrance Scholarship on his entry to the University of Regina. Dominic is principal trombone for the University of Regina Wind Ensemble, utility trombonist for the Regina Symphony Orchestra, and is a member of the Regina Jazz Orchestra, Bob Moyer Big Band, and leads his own jazz collective the Point 7 Quintet.

CARLO PETROVITCH (Bass) holds a BMUS in Classical Bass Performance from the University of Regina. Extended musical education continued in Montreal in the Jazz Program of McGill University under the tutelage of bassists Eric Lagace and Michael Leiter. Born and raised in Regina, Saskatchewan it is here that Carlo calls home and is in the never-ending quest for that thing called ‘Swing’.

JIM JIM GALLAGHER (Piano) is a high school English teacher whose avocation is playing jazz piano. After having completed his grade ten level piano while in high school, Jim became interested in jazz and explored the possibilities of switching his playing to that style. There were not many formal learning opportunities at that time so Jim relied on the assistance of others which included developing a friendship with Nate Strong, a Chicago based pianist who relocated to Regina in the late 1960’s It was through Nate that Jim eventually met Peter Dyksman and the two have performed together regularly for more than three decades. Along the way Jim had the opportunity to study with Oscar Peterson in an intense eight day setting and later with Victoria based pianist/vocalist Louise Rose. Those experiences enabled him to continue with his playing at a level such that he eventually was able to accompany many fine instrumentalists and vocalists who made Regina a stop on their tours across Canada.
