CELEBRATING FOUR DECADES OF JUNO SOLEFUL ARTISTS AT THE BATA SHOE MUSEUM

TORONTO, ON (November 9, 2010) – The Bata Shoe Museum, in partnership with The Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (CARAS), is pleased to announce the opening of JUNO Sole: Celebrating 40 Years of the JUNO Awards, an exhibition that will thrill audiences young and old alike, spanning generations and genres.

Representing the past four incredible decades of Canadian music, the exhibit features over 40 pairs of memorable shoes worn by past and present nominees, winners and Canadian musical icons. Vivid photographs and electrifying film footage capturing the excitement of the JUNO Awards welcomes visitors as they get ‘up-close and personal’ with some of their favourite musical artists in the Museum’s newly transformed and intimate Star Turns gallery. JUNO Sole: Celebrating 40 Years of the JUNO Awards opens to the public on November 10, 2010 and will be on display until November 30, 2011.

There is a profound connection between music and fashion; one influences the other - both serve as expressions of individuality. For an artist, their image is a direct reflection of their musical style; and that unique style often starts with a great pair of shoes. Whether worn during a live performance, in a music video, on their wedding day or at the JUNO Awards broadcast, learning more about a particular artist’s choice of footwear also offers an intimate ‘peek’ into their celebrity lifestyle.

The eclectic mix of artists featured in the exhibition include , , , Ben Heppner, Bif Naked, , Carole Pope, Chantal Kreviazuk, Dan Hill, , Drake, Emily Haines, Fred Penner, Geddy Lee, Glenn Gould, , Jann Arden, , , Jully Black, , K-OS, K’Naan, Kreesha Turner, LIGHTS, Measha Brueggergosman, Michael Bublé, Murray McLauchlan, , , , , , Sarah Harmer, Sarah McLachlan, Sarah Slean, , , Suzie McNeil, , , as well as bands , , , and Stereos.

“We were thrilled when approached by CARAS to be part of the celebrations during this monumental anniversary year for the JUNO Awards,” said Mrs. Sonja Bata, Founding Chairman of the Bata Shoe Museum. “The JUNO Awards represent the greatest recognition in the Canadian music industry and having the footwear of so many talented Canadian artists of the past 40 years displayed in the Museum offers an exciting experience for our visitors.”

“JUNO Sole is an exquisite marriage of music and fashion, presented beautifully and intimately at the renowned Bata Shoe Museum. As visitors walk through the exhibition, they will also walk through four decades of JUNO Awards legacy – and discover the inspiration, creativity and personality behind some of Canada’s brightest musical artists,” said Melanie Berry, President & CEO of CARAS. “This is yet another new and exciting way the JUNO Awards is celebrating 40 years of bringing Canadian music closer to the fans.” ...2)
