Alcan Free Closing Concert: Sunday, July 8, at 9:00 p.m.! Arabian Night with Rachid Taha and special guests A darling of Montrealers since his 1988 appearance at the FrancoFolies de Montréal, Rachid Taha now takes the stage at the Jazz Fest with a who’s who of special guests—the beautiful Lynda Thalie, high-energy Yann Perreau and ex-Clash guitarist, Mick Jones, to name a few—for a mega closing party that will be the highlight of the Montreal summer! For the album Diwân2, Taha—now a regular visitor to the city, where he’s welcomed like a king—plumbs the immigrant consciousness for treasure, evoking the exile culture of the 50s and 60s, with a little help from the Cairo string orchestra and virtuoso mandolute player Hakim Hamadouche. A show that promises to be unforgettable, in the spirit of hope, humanity, vitality and musicality! The concert will be recorded for broadcast on Bravo! and subsequently on TV5. Public Transport Strongly Recommended We’ve taken every measure to guarantee the security of visitors to the site, but count on the public to do its part to make sure our huge downtown party remains a party. Please take note that for security reasons folding lawn chairs are strictly forbidden on the site. Baby strollers are permitted, but their use is discouraged. In-line skates and bikes are not allowed, nor are cans and glass bottles. It is also forbidden to bring alcoholic beverages to the Festival site. We do however recommend that you bring along a plastic bottle of water. We also strongly suggest that visitors approach the site from the east or the north and that they use public transit. Once on the site, visitors may at any time make use of the security corridors which have been arranged strictly for leaving the site during the show. The corridors are strictly one-way and give direct access to the Place-des-Arts Metro station, the Complexe Desjardins and Jeanne-Mance Street, heading north. Because their purpose is to control traffic, it’s explicitly forbidden to watch the show from the corridors. Persons in wheel chairs must contact Alexandre Allard at 514 288-1424, extension 4540, at least three hours in advance to reserve a viewing space from the promenade.
