The Holy for Bishop Wordsworth’s School

Tuesday 15 March 2016 at 9.00 am

Welcome to our annual School Eucharist. It is an opportunity for us to meet as a school community within the context of the service and its reminder of the pattern of God’s transforming love for the world.

A prayer for use before the service:

Father of all, we give you thanks and praise, that when we were still far off, you met us in your Son and brought us home. Dying and living, he declared your love, gave us grace, and opened the gate of glory. May we who share Christ’s body live his risen life; we who drink his cup bring life to others; we whom the Spirit lights give light to the world. Keep us firm in the hope you have set before us, so we and all your children shall be free, and the whole earth live to praise your name; through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Music before the service begins:

Played by Arthur Pallecaros, BWS Organ Scholar, who also plays the closing voluntary.

The Gathering

Please stand for the hymn, during which the and clergy move in procession through the nave to the at the spire crossing.

Guide me, O thou great Redeemer, pilgrim through this barren land; I am weak, but thou art mighty; hold me with thy powerful hand: bread of heaven, feed me till I want no more.

Open now the crystal fountain whence the healing stream doth flow; let the fire and cloudy pillar lead me all my journey through: strong deliverer, be thou still my strength and shield.

When I tread the verge of Jordan, bid my anxious fears subside; death of death, and hell’s destruction, land me safe on Canaan’s side: songs of praises I will ever give to thee.

The Preparation of the Table Taking of the Bread and Wine

The HYMN is sung during which bread and wine are brought to the altar and placed upon it.

Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here. Come, bow before him now, with reverence and fear. In him no sin is found, we stand on holy ground. Be still, for the presence of the Lord, the Holy One, is here.

Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around; he burns with holy fire, with splendour he is crowned. How awesome is the sight, our radiant King of light! Be still, for the glory of the Lord is shining all around;

Be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place, he comes to cleanse and heal, to minister his grace. No work too hard for him, in faith receive from him; be still, for the power of the Lord is moving in this place.

The Eucharistic Prayer

President The Lord be with you All and also with you.

Lift up your hearts. All We lift them to the Lord.

Let us give thanks to the Lord our God. All It is right to give thanks and praise.

It is right to praise you, Father, Lord of all creation; in your love you made us for yourself.

When we turned away you did not reject us, but came to meet us in your Son.

All You embraced us as your children and welcomed us to sit and eat with you.

In Christ you shared our life that we might live in him and he in us.

All He opened his arms of love upon the cross and made for all the perfect sacrifice for sin.

On the night he was betrayed, at supper with his friends he took bread, and gave you thanks; he broke it and gave it to them, saying: Take, eat; this is my body which is given for you; do this in remembrance of me.

All Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his body is the bread of life.

At the end of supper, taking the cup of wine, he gave you thanks, and said: Drink this, all of you; this is my blood of the new covenant, which is shed for you for the forgiveness of sins; do this in remembrance of me.

All Father, we do this in remembrance of him: his blood is shed for all.

As we proclaim his death and celebrate his rising in glory, send your Holy Spirit that this bread and this wine may be to us the body and blood of your dear Son.

All As we eat and drink these holy gifts make us one in Christ, our risen Lord.

With your whole Church throughout the world we offer you this sacrifice of praise and lift our voice to join the eternal song of heaven:

And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. Please stand for the Hymn:

I danced in the morning when the world was begun. I danced in the moon and the stars and the sun, I came down from heaven and I danced on the earth; at Bethlehem I had my birth.

Dance, then, wherever you may be; I am the Lord of the Dance, said he, and I’ll lead you all, wherever you may be, and I’ll lead you all in the dance, said he.

I danced on the Sabbath and I cured the lame; the holy people said it was shame. They whipped and they stripped and they hung me high; and left me there on the cross to die.

I danced on a Friday when the world turned black — it’s hard to dance with the devil on your back. They buried my body and they thought I’d gone; but I am the dance and the dance goes on.

They cut me down and I leap up high; I am the life that will never, never die; I’ll live in you if you’ll live in me — I am the Lord of the Dance said he.
