Holy † April 28-June 2 Church in the City of Boston Missa Dorica Richard Webster, 1996 Webster, Richard Gloria in excelsis Deo 2 X Introduction Eastertide at Trinity Church Boston WELCOME Dear Trinity Church parish & friends, ! Christ is risen! For nearly 300 years, the Good News has been proclaimed – in deed, as in word – by members of this fellowship, and, since 1877, the mysteries of our God have been prayed at this with joy and wonder. Whether you are returning to church after a time away or are altogether new to the faith; whether you are a lifelong Trinity parishioner, looking for a new faith home, or simply seeking a place to celebrate this season; on behalf of these here gathered and all those who have come before us, we welcome you to Trinity Church in the City of Boston. If you are interested in learning more about joining our community, we invite you to fill out a welcome card (located in the pew rack before you) and set it in the offering plate. We will then look forward to connecting with you this week. If you are a pilgrim passing through our city, please consider learning more about this remarkable home of our worship and return for the free guided tour offered every regular Sunday, starting at the Eagle Lectern (front, right) immediately following the last service of the morning. As the risen Christ makes all things new, trust that you are always welcome here. May you and yours know that you are loved, this and every day. The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

The Rev. Morgan S. Allen, Rector

ABOUT EASTERTIDE When we are very small, we do not grow tired of stories. We want to hear them again, and yet again, until our carers groan and roll their eyes. But our small selves hunger to be inside the story, to become, through hearing it, at one with it. This is what we do as Christians: we tell each other the story, again and yet again. “Christ is risen!” we tell each other. But we do not see this every day. The daffodils bloom for a week or two, then die; the tulips follow in their turn. For us, as for them, there is no shortcut through decay and death. How shall we know this truth so foolish that it shames the wise? Christ lives, and so shall we! God’s will toward fruitfulness and flourishing cannot be checked by any powers that exist! It is a truth so grand, we cannot hold onto or understand it. All we can do—and what we do—is tell one another, over and over, until it makes its way into our very marrow: The Lord is risen indeed! Alleluia!

The Lord Almighty grant us a peaceful night and a perfect end.Amen. Our help is in the Name of the Lord; The maker of heaven and earth. O God, make speed to save us. O Lord, make haste to help us. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; For you have redeemed me, O Lord, O God of truth. Into your hands, O Lord, I commend my spirit; Keep us, O Lord, as the apple of your eye; Hide us under the shadow of your wings. Lord, hear our prayer; And let our cry come to you. Let us pray. Keep watch, dear Lord, with those who work, or watch, or weep this night, and give your angels charge over those who sleep. Tend the sick, Lord Christ; give rest to the weary, bless the dying, soothe the suffering, pity the afflicted, shield the joyous; and all for your love’s sake.Amen. Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace.

Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace according to thy word. For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; To be a light to lighten the Gentiles and to be the glory of thy people Israel. Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit: as it was in the beginning, is now, and will be for ever. Amen. servum tuum, Domine Secundum verbum tuum in pace: Quia viderunt oculi mei salutare tuum quod parasti ante faciem omnium populorum: Lumen ad revelationem gentium, et gloriam plebis tuae Israel. , et Filio, et Spiritui Sancto, Sicut erat in principio, et nunc, et semper, et in saecula saeculorum. Amen.

Guide us waking, O Lord, and guard us sleeping; that awake we may watch with Christ, and asleep we may rest in peace. Let us bless the Lord. Thanks be to God. The almighty and merciful Lord, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, bless us and keep us. Amen.
