Administrative/Biographical History (2.7): Wray and Walter Kessel were lifelong residents of Savannah, GA and among the founders of The Little Theatre in 1950. Wray supported all aspects of community theatre in Savannah throughout her long life. While a student at Armstrong Junior College (1938/39) Wray served on the Board of the Savannah Playhouse, a college-community theatre. Wray stayed involved with Armstrong’s theatre through the 1940s until the College decide to move its theatre program away from community theatre to a focus on students. The 1951 first annual program lists Mrs. Walter Kessel as Vice President of the Board of the Little Theatre. In a letter to the editor published about 1990, (Folder 9 in the Collection) Gerald Chan Sieg summed up Wray’s contribution to theatre in Savannah, describing her “devotion and courage” and service in “almost every capacity” and “tireless labors to give us theater.” Walter, also a founding and lifelong part of LT enjoyed the technical aspects of theatre (lighting, camera, sound) and music, The Collection includes Walter’s original music for LT productions and his photographs of the LT. The Kessels’ active involvement with the Little Theatre ended around 1990.
