Maritainovo poslání / vatikánském koncilu přednesl poselství církve světu. Je to poprvé, kdy se náš časo- Philippe Chenaux pis zaměřuje na jedinou osobnost. Možná si kladete otázku, zda jsme se rozhodli Maritain na úsvitu třetího tisíciletí / pěstovat kult osobností a opustili tématické okruhy. Nikoliv! Za naším rozhodnu- tím stojí určitá bolestná zkušenost. Období totality postupně vymazalo z paměti Miroslav Novák kontinuitu a uvrhlo nejenom církev, ale celou naši kulturní společnost do izolace. Myšlení Jacquesa Maritaina v bývalém Československu / Postupně vyhasínalo vědomí kulturně-náboženského spojení mezi jednotlivými centry intelektuálního a duchovního života. Z knihoven mizela teologická, nábo- Klára Jelínková ženská i filozofická nemarxistická literatura. Uvěznění velké části autorů zastavilo Umění ve filozofii Jacquesa Maritaina / i přirozený proud předávání vědomostí. Hermetické uzavření státní hranice spolu Rozlišovat, ale neoddělovat s ideologickými pouty umrtvilo vnější kontakty s okolním světem. Spoušť, která Rozhovor s Karlem Šprunkem / byla takto napáchána, je nedozírná. Louis Aragon ji nazval „Biafrou ducha“. Pro studium díla Jacquesa Maritaina nepomohl ani pramének kontaktů přes bývalou Maritain a pravda / NDR. Vždyť v samotné německé jazykové oblasti, jak píše Peter Nickl v Úvodu ži- vota a díla J. Maritaina,1 zůstává tajemstvím mlčení či upozadění Maritainova díla Jacques Maritain ve filozofické literatuře. Výmluvným svědectvím o tomto postřehu jsou i Malé ději- O časném poslání křesťana / ny filozofie Hanse Joachima Störiga. Jednostrannost této učebnice prohlubuje dis- 2 Jacques Maritain kontinuitu filozofického a teologického myšlení v našem prostředí. Existovat spolu s lidem / Francouzský či maritainovský vliv v období první republiky byl však mnohem výraznější a musíme dodat, že byl opravdu tvůrčí. -

International Journal of Orthodox Theology 8:3 (2017) 203 urn:nbn:de:0276-2017-3075 Gavril Trifa The Dialogue between Religion and Science in Today’s World from the View of Orthodox Spirituality Abstract One of the core issues of today’s world, the dialogue between science and religion has recently come to the attention of new fields of knowledge, which points to a change in some of the “classical” elements. Having a different history in the East and the West, in Catholic and Orthodox Christianity, the relation between faith and science has lived through some problematic centuries, marked by the attempt of some scientific domains to prove the universe’s materialist ontology and thus the uselessness of religion. This paper aims to present an overview of the Rev. Assist. Prof. Ph.D. stages that marked the often radical Gavril Trifa, Faculty of separation of science from religion, by Orthodox Theology of the highlighting the mutations recorded West University of Timi- during the past few decades not only şoara, Romania 204 Gavril Trifa in society but also in the lives of the young, as a result of the unprecedented development of technology. The solutions we have identified enable an update of the patristic model concerning the relation between religion and science, in the spirit of humility, the one that can bring the Light of life. -

He took part in the great controversies of his time, religious and political, but his figure takes its greatest lus ter with the passing of years because of his spiritual work and the influence he exerts in the Church by those endued with his teaching. From his integrated life originated both his works and his institution; that is why both his writings and the Oratory are intimately connected. His writings in their final synthesis-and we are concerned above all with the culmination of his contem plation and study-center about Christ, and his restoration of the priesthood centers about Christ. -

ISBN-10: 0739112686, ISBN-13: 978-0739112687. $60.00. by Irwin Wall, Professor Emeritus, University of California, Riverside and Visiting Scholar, NYU Published by H-Diplo on 11 June 2007 nti-Americanism, Seth Armus reminds us, has long been a permanent feature of French cultural life; it is a cultural trope, an idée fixe, that exists independently as a mode of intellectual discourse quite independently of American government policies and behavior. Of course such behavior influences it strongly, and the recent crisis over Iraq has brought it once again to the fore. This revival has also stimulated an outpouring of studies, some of them extraordinary, and it should be said at the outset that Philippe Roger’s work, now available in English, has become an instant classic, required reading on the subject.1 Roger traces anti-Americanism back to the eighteenth century, when French naturalists believed that life in the Americas was of necessity savage, brutish, short, and destructive of civilization. He takes us through several critical periods in its development, from the early national period through the Civil and Spanish-American wars, when the specter of American imperialism first began to frighten Europeans, through the 1920s and 1930s, and the postwar period. The merit of Armus’s study is to focus in on one such critical moment, the period from 1930 to 1948, which in his telling became a defining moment, in which anti-Americanism developed into an obsession with some thinkers, a world-view and an ideology almost in itself. -

Etchegaray, président de la CEF, annulait une rencontre à Matignon avec le premier ministre J. Chirac, celui-ci ayant prévenu la presse (DC, p. 240 (1)) ; en mai, il se plaignait que personne n’ose toucher aux textes incohé- rents et contraires à une « saine démocratie » régissant les libertés cultuelles (Enseignement catholique actualités, mai-juin 1976). Le 12 février 2002, soit un quart de siècle plus tard et deux siècles après le concordat conclu entre Bonaparte et Pie VII, le premier ministre L. Jospin, ayant à son côté le ministre de l’Intérieur D. Vaillant, a reçu solennellement le nonce apostolique F. Baldelli, l’archevêque de Paris J.-M. Lustiger, ainsi que les président et vice-président de la CEF J.-P. Ricard et M. Pontier. Selon Matignon, il s’agissait d’organiser « des rencontres régulières en vue de procéder à l’examen de problèmes d’ordre administratif et juridique qui se posent dans les relations entre l’Église catholique et l’État en France » (LM, 27/02/02) (2). Les deux partenaires ont précisé qu’il n’était pas question de modi- fier la loi de 1905, dite « de séparation des Églises et de l’État », afin de ne pas « rouvrir la boîte de Pandore des luttes anticléricales » (3). QL 97 (2016) 141-170 doi: 10.2143/QL.97.3.3197403 © 2016, all rights reserved THE LATIN VULGATE AS AN “AUXILIARY TOOL” OF TRANSLATION Historical Perspectives on Liturgiam Authenticam On March 28, 2001, the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Disci- pline of the Sacraments under the leadership of Cardinal Jorge Medina Estévez released the Fifth Instruction for the implementation of Sacrosanc- tum concilium. Entitled Liturgiam authenticam, “On the Use of Vernacular Languages in the Publication of the Books of the Roman Liturgy,” it pre- scribes the use of the Latin Vulgate as an “auxiliary tool” in the textual production of Scriptural translations for the vernacular liturgical books (no. 24). With regard to the vernacular lectionary in particular, it adds that “[i]f the biblical translation from which the Lectionary is composed exhib- its readings that differ from those set forth in the Latin liturgical text, it should be borne in mind that the Nova Vulgata Editio is the point of refer- ence as regards the delineation of the canonical text. Thus, in the transla- tion of the deuterocanonical books and wherever else there may exist var- ying manuscript traditions, the liturgical translation must be prepared in accordance with the same manuscript tradition that the Nova Vulgata has followed” (no. 37).1 This post-conciliar policy of Biblical translation soon became a matter of controversy. In a letter to the US Conference of Catholic Bishops dated August 13, 2001, the Executive Board of the Catholic Biblical Association of America aired its criticism against the curial document: Our main concerns have to do with the presentation of the Nova Vulgata as the model for Scripture translations in various ways and the provisions that translations conform to it, even to the point of requiring conformity to the Nova Vulgata in the tradition of original language manuscripts used for translation.
