Get Nourished - New NHS Tayside Advice Line This telephone line will provide practical tips and advice about how to stay well- nourished when you or someone you know has a poor appetite and/or is experiencing unintended weight loss.

This telephone line is open to members of the public living in Tayside who are experiencing unintended weight loss or poor appetite and are concerned about the impact this is having on their health and wellbeing. We also welcome calls from carers and family members who are concerned about an individual they are supporting.

This is not an emergency telephone line, if there is an immediate concern about health and wellbeing, please contact your GP or NHS 24 on 111. If a dietitian currently supports the individual, they should make contact with the local dietetic team in the first instance.

The telephone line has been set up by the NHS Tayside Nutrition and Dietetic Service and is supported by staff who are able to provide evidence-based information or signpost to further support and advice.

Losing weight without meaning to can be a sign of undernutrition, even if you are overweight. It is important to be aware of your weight and appetite, particularly if you are older or have a pre-existing medical condition.

Around one in ten people over the age of 65 is undernourished. Most people with undernutrition in the UK live at home. There are many reasons that affect our nutritional wellbeing including loneliness, mental health conditions and recovery during illness. We recognise during the COVID-19 pandemic that these physical and social factors are likely to increase, and in turn, the risk of under nutrition will increase.

The telephone line is 01738 450556

The lines opening hours are: Monday – 0930 – 1230 Wednesday – 1500 - 1800 Friday – 1200 – 1500

There may be instances when we are unable to take a call, please call back within the opening hours.

Should it be more appropriate: You can also make contact by email – [email protected]

Covid-19 Vaccine – Information for Carers Are unpaid carers a priority for the vaccine? - Where am I on the priority list?

Yes, unpaid adult carers aged under 65 and young carers aged 16 or 17 are included in group 6 on the priority list for the COVID-19 vaccine. Unpaid carers aged 65 and over will be offered the vaccine earlier as they are included in groups 2-5 which cover the whole population aged 65 and above. The priority list has been guided by the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI), which provides independent scientific advice on immunisation to all UK Health Departments, including on the efficacy and safety of vaccines and priority groups to be vaccinated.

The table below details the priority groups

Priority Group Risk group 1 Residents in a care home for older adults Staff working in care homes for older adults 2 All those 80 years of age and over Frontline health and social care workers 3 All those 75 years of age and over 4 All those 70 years of age and over Clinically extremely vulnerable individuals (not including pregnant women and those under 16 years of age) 5 All those 65 years of age and over 6 Adults aged 16 to 65 years in an at-risk group, including adult carers. See table three of the Greenbook for further information on those who will be included in group 6. 7 All those 60 years of age and over

There is further information on unpaid carers and the COVID-19 vaccination on the Scottish Government’s COVID-19 advice for unpaid carers web-page: https://www.gov.scot/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-advice-for-unpaid-carers/pages/vaccinations/

Also see the NHS Inform coronavirus vaccine web-page. If you have any enquiries about the COVID- 19 vaccine, you can contact the Coronavirus Vaccination Helpline on 0800 030 8013 (available 8am - 8pm all week). https://www.nhsinform.scot/healthy-living/immunisation/vaccines/coronavirus-covid-19-vaccine

The Scottish Government will write out to as many unpaid carers as possible to inform them that they are eligible and provide them with details of how to book their appointment. They are aware that not all unpaid carers will receive this letter. To ensure carers who don’t receive the letter are informed, the Scottish Government will work with organisations such as national and local carer organisations, including local carer centres and condition specific charities to ensure that information is made available. You may wish to register with your local carers centre if you have not done already to ensure you receive this information. Vaccine Scam A scam text message offering a coronavirus vaccine in return for bank details is doing the rounds in Tayside and . The text, branded despicable and dangerous, tells recipients they are eligible to apply for a vaccine and asks for personal information. Mid Scotland and Fife Conservative MSP Dean Lockhart has warned constituents not to be taken in by it. The Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) has also issued an alert. The first doses of the AstraZeneca vaccine are now being rolled out through GP practices, starting with the over 80s. It follows the launch of the Pfizer vaccine in December. Local health boards will contact those who are eligible to receive the immunisations by letter. They will never ask for any bank account details.
