4 Summer Show 2019: TWISTED

Something is amiss in the Black Forest… The fairy tale world is thrown for a loop when Russian sorceress Baba Yaga and her sisters brew up a devilish plan to tangle the traditional tales and sow the seeds of epic chaos, forcing beloved fairy tale characters to band together and strive to set their stories straight. This summer at Circus Juventas, comedy, magic, and romance abound as we return to the world of international fairy tales for the first time since our 2011 blockbuster hit Grimm. Will Jack conquer his beanstalk? Will the Little Mermaid finally make it to shore? Will Pinocchio achieve real-boy status? Will Sleeping Beauty EVER wake up? And what about that wicked little fellow with the strangest name? Find out this July and August in this magical mix-up for the millennia that’s not to be missed. Performer Information

5 Progressing Through the Program It can sometimes be a bit difficult to navigate a program as complex as ours. We hope a few real-life scenarios will help! Remember: if you would like specific feedback, let us know and we’ll set up a meeting with Rachel, one of our coaches and artistic department co-manager. Scenario 1: Lilly the Kinder Scenario 2: Lilly has been taking the Circus Kinders class all year. She performed in the spring show and just turned six in April! This is what they tell her: class in the youth program so long as she will be entering First grade come fall. She also has the option of staying in the summer Kinders class (if that’s what makes her more comfortable), in which case she will need to transition into the youth program for the fall. We recommend making the transition in the summer, as Taking the summer off could affect Sue’s Scenario 3: Tom, it is a shorter session with fewer students. training come fall session: the Vault Mini Our registration process is based on priority status student with an with first priority given to students returning to classes from the previous session. Each act is marked to denote the level of prerequisites needed for the FIRST level of that act. See below:

GREEN acts require no additional prerequisites other than the age requirement. New to our program? Start here! These are the classes everyone is eligible for, no prior experience necessary!

YELLOW acts require previous experience to BEGIN training in this act. Look carefully at the prerequisites listed to determine your eligibility. Requesting classes you are not yet eligible for will only slow down the registration process.

PURPLE acts require an ADVANCED level of training even for the lowest level. These classes are often marked as “invitation only.” If you are interested in any of these acts but have not received a recommendation from your coach, indicate your interest in the “notes” section of your online registration.

Circus Juventas offers an incredibly unique athletic program for students ages 2-5. (Please note: We do not offer a class for age 2 in summer session. Check back in fall 2018 for this class offering.) Designed to offer children the oppor- tunity to try their hands in all things circus, our Toddlers and Circus Kinders jump and leap, turn and soar, and style and smile, all within the safety of our arena and with our first-class instructors! Take a look at the many day/class time offerings, as well as general questions answered below!

Class Information Prerequisites Performing Status TODDLERS (TD) A unique program exclusively for 2 to 5 year olds. Genres explored include balance, acrobatics, expression, juggling, and aerial. Please note: We do not offer a class for age 2 in summer session.

TD 0000-01 Toddlers ages 3-5 (Sat 12:15 PM) Meets minimum age by Sept 1, 2019 and space availability Non-performing TD 0200-01 Toddlers ages 3-4 (Sat 9:00 AM) Meets minimum age by Sept 1, 2019 and space availability Spring Show 2020 TD 0300-01 Toddlers ages 4-5 (Sat 10:00 AM) CIRCUS KINDERS (CK) Designed for kindergartners, this performing class is a bridge between the traditional Toddler class and the youth program where students will specialize in an act.

CK 0100-01 Circus Kinders ages 5-6 (Sat 11:00 AM) Meets minimum age by Sept 1, 2019 and space availability Spring Show 2020 CK 0100-02 Circus Kinders ages 5-6 (Wed 5:00 PM) CK 0100-03 Circus Kinders ages 5-6 (Wed 4:00 PM)

Special note on Toddlers/Kinders Summer Registration: If your student participated in a Toddlers class this past academic year, and they will meet the minimum age requirement by Sept 1, 2019, then they CAN move into the Circus Kinders program for summer session. The same thing applies for Kinders moving into the youth program—as long as they will be entering 1st grade this fall, you can choose from our youth class offerings. You also have the option of staying in the same class as this past year (if that makes your student more comfortable); however, they will need to make the transition to the next level come fall.

I’m Interested! FAQs about Toddlers and Kinders Programs:

What equipment do they work with? All kinds, including hoops, trampoline, juggling, trapeze, tumble track, vault mini, mini hammock, and low wire! The skills they learn coincide with their development, so Kinders get to do a bit more than the Toddlers do.

Am I allowed to be in class with my child? Sometimes the first week can be tough for our youngest students. During this transition, parents can be permitted to work with their child on the floor. Once they get in the groove, parents are encouraged to participate less.

How do I know if my child is ready for this program? We really leave it up to our parents to use their best judgment; after all, you know your child best. Please note: our general policy is not to offer class refunds, but you can come check out our facilities before committing to class.

Does my child have to perform? Not necessarily. Summer session is a great time to try out classes WITHOUT the pressure of performing. Should your child decide to stick with the program, you will have to commit to performing come winter session.

How much does it cost? Toddlers and Kinders classes are $165 for summer session. Additional costs are associated with performing.

How do I get signed up? If you’re brand new to CJ, you need to fill out the Pre-registration Form online. This is how we collect information on your student (as well as get you onto our mailing list). Once registration opens up, log into the system and get signed up. It’s that simple!

What can I do to make sure my child gets placed into class? Two things: first, get your registration in sooner than later. Second, list as many class day/time options as can fit in your schedule. If we can’t get you into your first choice, we will work extra hard to get you your second or third!

10 Promotes confidence, whimsy, and courage to Experience Classes conquer new experiences

Not sure yet which act you want to specialize in? Want to try it all? Our experience classes offer beginning students the opportunity to try several acts offered at Circus Juventas. In addition to introducing students to beginning level classes, these experience classes also give students a taste of the intermediate acts they may choose to take in the future. Choose Circus Experience to get a taste of all circus genres, or choose a more specific option!

I’ve Taken an Experience Class: What Comes Next? What did you like the most? What did your student enjoy most in the variety of acts offered throughout his/her experience class? Look to a more specific act in the genre of that act so that the training can become more concentrated on what he/ she enjoyed. Look at the options in the session guide! Find any of the beginning level classes (highlighted in GREEN) throughout the guide. We’ve listed class descriptions and prerequisites to help determine what each act has to offer. There is also our Class Finder that offers selections for narrowing down options based on a variety of filters. Talk to the admin staff ! We’re always here to help and can also be a great conduit for gathering feedback from the coaches. Need help remembering what that circular, aerial contraption was called? We can help you figure it out in addition to answering any questions you may have about the program. Also, artistic department co-manager, Rachel, is a great resource to provide guidance with moving through the various levels of our program, too. Email [email protected] to set up a meeting with her for consultation.

Can someone explain the registration priority process to me? Certainly! Because we serve over 900 students (and are currently at capacity), we have developed over the years a comprehensive way of handling the nearly 3,000 class requests we get every session.

Step 1: Students from the previous session are guaranteed enrollment in the same acts they were taking (if they choose to return). Step 2: Students returning from the previous session requesting NEW classes are given priority for open spots. Step 3: Students returning from a previous session are placed into classes before new students. Step 4: New students are placed into classes.

The steps above only apply to the process if class requests are submitted BY the registration deadline. Once that deadline comes and goes, requests are evaluated solely on a first-come, first-served basis.

The registration deadline is: Wednesday, May 1st @ 12:00 p.m.! Click here to register!

Now don’t get discouraged! Just because you don’t have the “first priority” that does NOT mean that we will be unable to place you. But that IS a reason to get your registration submitted sooner than later. CANCELLATIONS: Circus Juventas reserves the right to cancel a class due to insufficient enrollment. In that case, the student would receive a full refund. Students voluntarily withdrawing from a class after the registration deadline may NOT receive a refund. 27
