Jimmy Palmiotti, Justin Gray : Phantom Lady #1 before purchasing it in order to gage whether or not it would be worth my time, and all praised Phantom Lady #1:

I would recommend this to anyone.1 of 1 people found the following review helpful. I'D RATHER HAVE GOLDEN AGE ARCHIVES EDITIONS OF PHANTOM LADY AND THE DOLLMAN THAN THIS SERIES!By cornbreadthedogFirst off, I hate over at DC COMICS!But since I fondly remembered and loved Phantom Lady and Doll Man in the classic Freedom Fighters series and the revamped versions of them in the 2004 series. (I just thought that the story with them in '04 just sucked!) Still, I figured I'd have an open mind and give this "reboot" a shot.Sad to say, some things should be left alone. Mainly, because there was nothing ever really wrong with these two characters to begin with. However, in this 2012 outing, Phantom Lady's new costume is absolutely horrible! Rather than fighting crime, it looks like she's about to go jogging down to the local Starbucks and get a $4 coffee cake. Phantom Lady's new costume is not sexy at all and it doesn't make this fan boy's eyes pop like her old costume did.Same thing goes for the new Doll Man. I loved the original's costume. Well, okay, the blue Keebler cookie elf boots had to go. But the rest was cool. This 2012 version needs to go back to the drawing board. The guys over at DC comics should've made it an updated homage to the 1940's version of Doll Man. Oh, and please lose the jet pack for Doll Man! The original Doll Man had super strength and agility because of his size! His leaps were almost like flying! So, he had no real need for a jet pack. Come on, guys! Besides, the jet pack on his back really looks corny and lame. And speaking of corny and lame...Phantom Lady and Doll Man are fighting a female zombie with decaying powers named ...Funerella?...Dudes! How I groan and weep for the state of comics! A million things in our world for heroes to do battle with: crooked cops, drug dealers, rouge nation states, terrorists, serial killers, and people snapping and shooting up movie theaters and schools! And you guys waste your time with something silly and lame as the undead?Oh! And by the way, , who recruits the Doll Man and Phantom Lady at the end of this series is iconic-ally Caucasian. I groaned and sadly shook my head when you guys made him black and wearing a trench coat.Uncle Sam is the spirit of America and leads the Freedom Fighters on their adventures just like he did back in WW2. He's pretty much the "" of their team and of DC Comics before the whole "NEW 52" era. Now, before people start flaming me with all kinds of conclusions that I'm a racist or that I'm anti-black or something..Far from it. I'm black and I love black super heroes! Huge fan of the Black Panther, Storm, Luke Cage, and The Falcon! But I don't ever see Marvel Comics turning Captain America into an African American. Uncle Sam is the DC equivalent (although not as popular as Captain America is). That's all I'm saying. However, I did love the scenes through out the series where Doll Man was explaining and helping Phantom Lady with her powers and trying to work out the new "boundaries" of their "relationship". It felt like I was watching ANT MAN (HENRY PYM) and THE WASP (JANET VAN DYNE)back in the day. That part was very cool!I also liked how Phantom Lady was involved with trying to take down a mob guy who's responsible for the death of her parents. That was kinda' sweet. Plus, the artwork for this series wasn't great but it wasn't that bad either.A nice try of breathing new life into golden age heroes but I think that I'll pass.MAN,I'D RATHER HAVE DC ARCHIVES COLLECTIONS OF PHANTOM LADY AND DC ARCHIVES COLLECTIONS OF THE DOLL MAN RATHER THAN THIS 2012 SERIES.

Set on a path of vengeance by the murder of her parents when she was just a child, Jennifer now gets a shot to take down the family responsible. When she goes deep undercover to investigate, what she gets instead is something neither she nor her pint-size pal could expect!
