PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Season 2009-2010 has been another very successful season as the club continues to build and develop.

Highlights: • Retaining the HK&HDCA Junior Club Championship. We have now won this award on four occasions, including the last two seasons. • The NWCC in2CRICKET program being invited to attend the SCG in January and share a training session with the Australian team as they prepared for their against the West Indies. • Fielding 22 teams – 7 in seniors, 8 in junior competitive competitions (U11 to U16s) & 7 in junior modified competitions. To have a junior semi-finalist in every age group is a phenomenal leap from only a few years ago when we couldn’t field a side at every age level. • 34 players playing representative cricket for HK&HDCA • Premierships to the U12s, who completed the season undefeated, and the Colts (Under 19s) teams. • A NWCC U14 team reaching the final of the CricketNSW Michael Clarke T20 competition, which was played at the SCG in February. Although being defeated on the day, this experience will be one that the boys will cherish forever. The U12 T20 team also did fantastically well, being narrowly defeated in the semi-final played at the new Blacktown Olympic Stadium in late January. • Anthony Maxworthy becoming the seventh life member of Normanhurst Sports Club, Cricket Division. Anthony presided over the club for 5 seasons from 2001-02 until 2005-06, and has been substantially involved in the club ever since. Much of the present strength and success of the club can be attributed to Maxi’s efforts and achievements over the years.

The major challenge ahead for the club is to be able to again field a strong side in the HK&HDCA A grade competition. With the retirement of a number of senior players over the last couple of seasons, the decision was made at the start of the 2009-2010 season to not enter a side at this level, and focus on rebuilding our club strength through the Colts competition. With this aim having been achieved with a premiership, we are on track to be able to return to the top grade.

The other perennial weakness of the club is the availability of facilities in the local area. With the pitch area of Normanhurst Oval to be replaced prior to the start of next season, we need to use the opportunity to redevelop the net facilities at the same time, whilst also gaining access to additional grounds and net facilities for practice.

A huge vote of appreciation to all those volunteers who have contributed to the running of the club over the last twelve months. The Committee has seen a small bunch of very hard working people doing a fantastic job for the benefit of all the members. Captains, coaches and team managers have done another great job in what can often be a long, arduous and thankless task – but where would we be without you? I encourage more people to get involved and continue to develop a wonderful cricket club.

The highlight of the year for these enthusiastic young boys and girls was the trip to the SCG to train alongside the Australian Cricket team before their one-day clash with the West Indies in February. After a net session, BBQ, a few questions & answers and some autographs, the NWCC in2CRICKETERS had the Aussies prepared for a big game the next day, only to see the boys washed out just after the change of innings.

Lots of fun was had and heaps of energy burnt off every Saturday morning (when it wasn’t wet!), with the season finishing with a twilight BBQ and presentation at Normo Oval.

Well done to Jason Maxworthy for running these sessions each week, with thanks to Anthony Maxworthy for co-ordinating another very successful season. See you all next year.

UNDER 9 BLACK TEAM REPORT The Under 9 Black team enjoyed a great season together, made new friends and had a great time both at training and on match day. The boys improved in all aspects of the game as the season progressed but importantly in two areas, excellent fielding and positive encouragement from all boys to each other. The All-Stars are; Rory Craig, Phillip Craig, Nick Hammond, Luke Nelson, Oliver Part, Nick Blunt, Anirudh Nair, Aryan Devikar, Jordan Fullagar and Raj Labade. Rory Craig could devastate the opposition’s bowling with boundaries coming from all angles. His bowling was quick and accurate taking many wickets this season. Opposition batsman would be heard saying to incoming batsman “Watch out he’s quick”. Phillip Craig One of the most encouraging little cricketers with always positive and encouraging comments during the heat of battle. We saw runs flow freely from his bat and his fielding was of a high standard. Phillip took some ‘Classic Catches” this year which would impress the older grades. Nick Hammond would often be seen taking the attack to the other side with his full blooded strokes sending the ball to the boundary with no chance of stopping it. Nick has one of the safest pairs of hands in the field under the high ball and took a number of great catches this year. Luke Nelson was always in the thick of it, running chasing catching and smashing the ball to all parts of the boundaries. He did this all with his usual smile and great humour. He kept a very tight ship with the wicket keeping gloves and would be there for a run out should the opposition risk it. Oliver Part was one of our first timers this season and developed in all areas of his game. His run rate increased with quick singles and carefully guided shots to the boundaries. His bowling moved on developing speed and accuracy as the season progressed and saw wickets fall. Nick Blunt was one of great improvers for this season. His fielding and catching was excellent and saw many sides lose runs from his safe hands. His batting moved onto become a great run machine. He moved between the wickets quickly and with great enthusiasm. Anirudh Nair would quietly take a team apart with his accurate bowling. His batting and running between wickets would accumulate runs quickly as well. His fielding was always of a high quality and could always be found backing up the stumps from the long throws. Aryan Devikar is another great cricketer putting in the hard work not only during training but also game time. Aryan’s fielding always put the opposition team under pressure and would be the first to back up the stumps at either end. Aryan had a great all-round season. Jordan Fullagar was the team’s pocket rocket. His beautiful bowling action would be at times too good for the opposition to touch. Jordan has a great throwing arm and a safe pair of hands under the high ball. He bats with style and with each shot sends the oppositions fielders chasing to the boundary. Raj Labade worked hard during training and this came to promise during game time. Once again he always put pressure on the opposition while fielding and limited the oppositions run rate. Raj’s bowling accuracy developed and notch up a number of wickets over the season. Congratulations to the team for a very enjoyable and successful season. My big thanks to Margaretta Adams for managing, scoring and keeping me in check when umpiring and trying to bowl 8 ball over’s. Thank you to all the parents for your help, encouragement and the lovely bottles of wine. CONSISTENT PERFORMER AWARD: Rory Craig MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: Nick Blunt Coach: Stephen Part Manager: Margaretta Adam 12

UNDER 9 WHITE TEAM REPORT Ben Bishop, James Braithwaite, Ralph Cockburn, Joshua Dale, Jackson Duncan, Noah Moss, Jack Ryan, Sandhu Samreet Singh, Oliver Tysoe, Harry Willis With lots of boys on their first year of “real” cricket, the U9 whites had a great season, and everyone showed heaps of improvement. We had some really consistent all round performers throughout the season like Ollie, James and Harry who worked hard every week. In the bowling department, we had some really nippy speedsters in Ben and Sanrit and Josh who were always hard to bat against each week, as well as Noah and Jackson who showed great improvement in their bowling throughout the season. Some terrific efforts in the field also, particularly from the very speedy Jack who was a most enthusiastic fielder week after week, and some terrific throws and run outs from a number of the boys – in particular Ralph who’s strong arm was always dangerous. Some terrific catching also including one game where 5 of our 6 wickets came from catches to win us the game, without one drop which was a fantastic effort. Our batting got better and better as the season wore on, culminating in a brilliant 1 run win in the last game, chasing down 106 without losing a wicket. Thanks also to all the parents who all contributed with umpiring, scoring and coaching throughout the year. ALL ROUNDER AWARD: Ben Bishop COACHES’ AWARD: James Braithwaite Coach: Richard & Jenny Bishop Manager: Amanda Brewster

U9 RED TEAM REPORT Alexander Buse, Patrick Cass, Taylor Gabb, Daniel Gabb, Tom Harris, Sean McCormack, Max McKern, Alexander Smealie, Hamish Spalding, Ted Tencza, Nicholas Walsh It has been a great season for the U9 NormoWarra-Red cricket team this year. We had quite a few boys playing their first season of cricket and they fitted into the team really well. Everyone was really keen to play and as we had a big playing group, someone each week had to miss out – much to their disappointment. Alexander S played some awesome cricket – a great all rounder and full of enthusiasm in the field. He should feel really proud of his achievements this season. Alexander B played his first season of cricket. He was quite tentative to begin with but soon warmed up to the idea and always looked forward to playing. Daniel was also playing in his first season. He improved greatly throughout the season and ended up being pretty handy with the ball in his hand. Hamish is another who was playing in his first season. He always liked to direct the team in the field – a future captain one day. Nicholas was pretty handy with both the bat and ball and could give the ball a good whack when batting. He managed to pick up a few wickets as well. Max played consistently all season. He loves batting and managed to collect a couple of good scores. His bowling improved a lot this season. Patrick played his first season this year and improved heaps as the season progressed. He was always keen bat and bowl as well as be captain as often as possible. Sean had a great season – scoring plenty of runs along the way. He was always keen and pretty useful in the field.

13 Taylor was the top scorer for the season, cracking some great scores along the way. His bowing improved as the season progressed. Teddy was also pretty handy with the bat, second top scorer to Taylor. At times he bowled with some good pace and managed to pick up a few wickets. Tom was a consistent player and was good with the ball managing to pick up a few wickets for the season. His batting improved as the season progressed. All the boys should feel really proud of their efforts throughout the season and it was rare not to have everyone turn up each week. The improvement was evident each week – especially in the field where they started to work together as a team. I have really enjoyed the season and am looking forward to the boys playing again next year. Thanks also to all the parents who helped out during the season. ALL ROUNDER AWARD: Alexander Smealie COACHES’ AWARD: Daniel Gabb See you all next season Coach: Bob McKern

U10 WHITE TEAM REPORT Why did it have to end? It was a dream season, with the boys enjoying great success. Each game was an improvement from the previous game. Their greatest achievement was the middle of the pitch celebrations for taking a wicket or hitting a boundary followed by glove knuckling and high fives. Many thanks to the kids for playing with such enthusiasm and spirit. This great season would not have happened if it was not for the parents who helped coach, score, and assisted on Saturdays and just for coming along and supporting the boys. The Stars are: Joshua “ The intimidator” Hayes, always looking to stair down a batman or use an extra 10 metres in is run up to scare the day lights out of opposing players Was able to deliver a ball with great speed and accuracy . 278 runs 3 sixes 35 fours HS 54 22 wickets for 93 runs and 7 catches Jordan “ Gilly “ Hayes. Looking to stump or take a caught behind or just revving up the team. Bowling improved week after week with a nice smooth action. Great hitter of the ball and always looking to turn one run into three. 194 runs 20 fours HS 39 10 wickets for 108 runs and 9 catches / run outs Richard “ No Nonsense “ Crago All business until he uprooted the stumps from the speed with which he bowled then he was all smiles .Has a great in swinger and pace makes him a natural fast bowler. Great opening batman got the team off to a good start each week. 181 runs 18 fours HS 42 10 wickets for 66 runs and 3 catches Dominic “ The Dominator “ Della Franca The happiest kid on the oval never without a smile and his signature straight drive pass the bowler .Love the chance to wicket keep. .Another who loved to open the batting and made a great partner with Richard. 180 runs 19 fours HS 50 4 wickets for 146 runs and 7 catches Anthony “Speedy” Georgiou Many a four was saved by the amount of ground he would cover and the rocket returns to assist in run outs . A good change bowler and always wanting to wicket keep. 113 runs 4 fours HS 25 11 wickets for 128 runs and 2 catches

14 Thomas Drum Lovely bowling action that improved week after week .Unlucky not to have cause more havoc with the opposition . A genuine fast bowler of the future and a great player of the ball off his hips .Another one at home behind the stumps. 98 runs 6 fours HS 26 6 wickets for 116 runs and 4 catches run outs Daniel Anthonisz A bowling action that changed each week, he could be right arm or left arm bowler either way it bamboozled the opposition and his signature hook shot was a dream to watch. 83 runs 6 fours HS 20 7 wickets for 169 runs and 6 catches Jordan “Mr Cricket “Pollock Champion of “ we will never lose “, great for team spirit. 81 runs 1 four HS 16 6 wickets for 156 runs and 2 catches Lucas Drieberg Unfortunately missed every second week so his stats are low but enjoyed his cricket and I encourage him to continue. 14 runs from 3 innings and 6 wickets for 122 runs Otis Troy Enjoyed playing and I hope he continues next year. 43 runs HS 18 innings and 6 wickets for 115 runs MOST IMPROVED ALL ROUNDER Richard Crago EMERGING STAR AWARD: Anthony Georgiou Coach: Steve Crago Manager: Phil Hayes

U10 BLACK TEAM REPORT Lachlan Dale, Lachlan Hodges, Lachlan Honeyman, Liam Ivers, Josh Luton, Seth Metzmacher, Finn Spalding, Thomas Walsh, Kevin Lee, Jett Reeves The Normanhurst Blacks U/10’s had a very enjoyable season. The boys all got on very well and their skills developed as the year went on which is really important at this age. They had a good team mentality and genuinely enjoyed seeing each other do well. The inception of the hard ball after Xmas went off without a hitch although there was the odd incident at training! The boys won the majority of the games and got on well as a group. A quick note to the administrators that 38 overs is too long for this age group. Most of the other competitions are at the 20-25 over a side mark which certainly would be more appropriate. At this age the most important aspect for the kids is to improve their skills which is easy when they are concentrating—not that easy at the 35 over mark on a hot Saturday. There is plenty of time in the teenage years for 40 and 50 over a side games. The season for the kids was a successful one with the boys adapting to the hard ball in the latter part of the season better than their opposition. The batting line up was strong with our opening pair of Lachlan Honeyman and Liam Ivers proving rock solid against the new ball each week. The middle order improved all year with Joshua Luton, Tom Walsh and Jett Reeves providing useful contributions throughout the year. Our fielding was always good with the wicket-keeping of Lachlan Dale and the catching of Kevin Lee a highlight. The FBU (fast bowlers union) was alive and well at the Blacks with Finn Spalding, Seth Metzmacher and Lachlan Hodges (most wickets) terrorising a few teams with the new pill. Special mention to the two top performers of the year: BEST BATSMAN: Finn Spalding MOST IMPROVED PLAYER: Joshua Luton Thanks to all the parents for their enthusiasm for scoring (not!), umpiring and getting their kids to the ground on time. Special thanks to Suzanne Spalding for ensuring that everything happened and remembering all the things that I forgot (which was a bit). Coach: Craig Hodges Manager: Suzanne Spalding 15 U10 RED TEAM REPORT Patrick Coburn, Charlie Johnston, Robert Liggins, Alex Papp, Aiden Smith, Jordan Stenning, Michael Vandervelde, Lian Vane-Tempest, Leyton Witts When the whole team loves the game of cricket as much as these guys you know you are in for an enjoyable season. The boys shared batting , bowling , and wicket keeping duties equally throughout the year and looked formidable no matter who was doing what . They led the competition in runs scored and wickets taken [2260 runs @ 36 and 104 wickets @ 10] with an average win of just over 150 runs off 36 overs . We started the year with four boys from last year , one returning to the nest , one returning to cricket and three rookies . It took them about 10 balls to gel and then the fireworks began. Whether at training or in the game these boys gave everything and took no prisoners along the way. They spent most of the year asking when they could play 'hardball', it just couldn’t come soon enough . Magically they got to play WPH in their first game of hardball where Aidan promptly put 3 brand new West Penno cherries into the bush in succession, Leyton and Robbie chimed in with 2 more lost balls and we were left thinking it was lucky WPH had so many new balls. Support for this team grew along the year with many other NWCC coaches coming to the games to see if they could unlock the secrets of this team’s phenomenal performances. Parents, siblings and grandparents soon deferred other engagements to watch these boys on a Saturday morning . Philthy's grandparents even flying over from the old dart just to see some decent Aussie cricket. "The most dominant junior team in the association " said Peter J. With superlatives like this, although welcome and justified, probably didn't do these boys justice. The team :[of the century? , only time will tell ]: Carmel - few runs or wickets, but well managed and scored . Many thanks again Binga - genetically challenged but gave 100% each and every game or training. Very safe in the field. Dog - took some of the most spectacular catches ever seen in U10s, only 1 herschelle moment Crazy- started the year thinking he was just a bowler, finished the season ranked 14 out of 203 for batting Hollywood - you may ask 'why hollywood?' 75 off 24 balls v WPH . That’s why Panther - hardest hitting batsmen in the comp and averaged 96 Philthy - a confidence man, the rookie who ranked top 10 for batting, bowling, and fielding in the comp Punter- shares more than a birthday with Ricky, best dressed member of the team and sledges second to none Pup - man of few words, lets his bat do the talking. 16 U11 BLACK TEAM REPORT Noah Binet, Lachlan Davie, Callum Dixon, Luke Evans, Patrick Flaherty, Gurpreet Gisewal, Matt Hammond, Raghav Katrya, Rishabh Khanna, Alec McDonald, Brendan Plummer, Callum Slater

The 2009/10 season was the first full season the team played with the “hard ball”. The season saw a bunch of “old” team mates unite and a couple of new boys join the team. The season proved to be a tough one, with the boys coming up against some high quality opposition. Despite this, the team did NWCC, their parents and their team mates proud, trying always to remain positive out on the field and supporting each other throughout the season. A tradition which has been carried over from past seasons is the boys lust for celebration at the taking of a wicket. The boys have again been a pleasure to coach…respectful and attentive.

Noah Binet – Noah’s prowess with the ball really shone through as the season progressed. The opposition found it increasingly difficult to take runs from him. His batting also improved out of sight, showing great improvement in his technique and his ability to stay at the wicket.

Callum Dixon – Callum's bowling showed great improvement as the year progressed. He showed a lot of capability with the bat, often spending plenty of time at the wicket and keeping some very capable bowling out.

Lachlan Davie – Lachie was one of the St Agatha’s boys to join the team this year. Lachie was a tremendous boy to coach. He listened attentively and always showed an enormous amount of enthusiasm, whether at training or during a long stint in the field on a hot summers day. His batting really began to flourish toward the end of the season.

Luke Evans – Luke was the second of the new recruits to join from St Agatha’s. Luke’s spin bowling attack was outstanding. Opposition umpires often told of the ball “fizzing” past their ears as they stood to attention at the bowlers crease. Luke also showed his aggression with the bat, taking it up to some of the best bowlers in the competition. Luke’s skilful catching ability proved to be a great asset at mid wicket. Every time a ball hit an opposition bat, there was a chance of a wicket whilst ever he was in that position.

Patrick Flaherty – Pat played with the boys up until the Christmas break, after which he played with his new school. Pat’s bowling improved tremendously from last season. He too showed great aggression with the willow. His enthusiasm in the field - whatever the circumstances - was a pleasure to observe. Whispers have come back that Pat has done extremely well with his cricket at his new school.

Gurpreet Gisewal – Gurpreet was another of our new team members this year. Gurpreet’s transformation as a cricketer over the summer was a pleasure to watch. There is absolutely no doubting Gurpreet’s love for the game; often bringing cricket text books to training and to the match so that he could discuss fielding tactics with the “coach”. Over the season both his batting and bowling showed outstanding improvement – a sign of his commitment to the game (and perhaps a bit of practice with dad in the back yard). (Coaches award for the Most Improved)

Matthew Hammond – Matt began the year with a great innings with the bat. By the end of the season, and after much practice with the ball in the sock, Matt really began to take some of the attacks apart. He also proved to be invaluable in his favourite position at fine leg, using the strength in his arm to deliver the ball back to the wicket (and sometimes well beyond it) on the full. (Batting Award)

17 Rishabh Khanna - Watching Rishabh bowl over the last couple of years has always been a pleasure. This season (the first full season with the hard ball) was going to be particularly enjoyable. Rish’s speed and accuracy often brought sighs of amazement from the parents on the sideline and struck fear into the hearts of the batsmen forced to face him. Toward the end of the season Rish also showed that he is not just a bowler, with some great scores earned with patient innings. (Bowling Award)

Alec McDonald – Alec had a great season with the bat, scoring some thrilling innings. Not only was he able to place the ball beautifully, he was able to skip between wickets with phenomenal speed. His speed was later confirmed when he won the National under 11 200 metre title (well done Alec).

Brendan Plummer – Brendan was another of the new members of the team. Brendan demonstrated from the outset that he was a force to be reckoned with. He has the most technically correct batting the team has seen. His bowling was also a tremendous sight. Brendan slotted into the team like he had been with them from the inception. Brendan was a pleasure to coach for the year.

Raghav Katrya – Ragahv returned for his second season with the team. He showed that he had been practicing with his dad and had improved out of sight. His bowling was the area where he had improved the most. Firstly his accuracy and then as the season wore on the speed of his bowling picked up tremendously.

Raymond Takchi – Ray was on the verge of hanging up his bat at the start of the season, until the call from his mates on a Thursday afternoon and the attraction of the Saturday morning battle became too much. He returned to the team with gusto, flailing his bat at anything that came down the wicket. Rays enthusiasm in the field contributed greatly to the team’s ability to remain positive throughout the summer.

Callum Slater – Cal’s bowling has come a long way since last season. His accuracy and pace have improved amazingly. His batting too has come a long way, now showing a lot more patience. Cal also shows tremendous athleticism in the field, often propelling himself through the air, with no respect for his body (or his clothes), focussed solely on the loose ball.

UNDER 11 RED TEAM REPORT The 2009/10 season was great for the U11 Red team who narrowly lost the semi finals to the eventual Premiers. The team played hard and fair enjoying themselves every step along the way. A huge thanks to all the parents for their support both at training and matches when scoring, umpiring and cheering. Also a special vote of thanks to Ben Bishop, Aidan Smith and Robert Liggins who filled in at crucial times, when we were short of players. Their support is greatly appreciated. Alexander Murray-Jones’ performance belied his rookie status on the team. A first timer to the game, he was enthusiastic in everything he did, be it batting, bowling or fielding. A great addition to the team, as well as the game.

18 Avneet Bhele A very competitive player who performed consistently with batting, bowling and keeping. Always ready to support and encourage his team mates. Avneet is a cricketer who can be counted on to deliver. An impressive all round performance. Harry Debney came to the team a few weeks into the season and what a revelation he was. His right arm over bowling improved as the season went on and he took some wonderful wickets. It should also be noted that his batting improved as well throughout the season but will need some more work on moving his feet if he is to realise his potential. Jeremy Herbert has again had a great season of cricket. It started with some hiccups with his batting but he bounced back from that with some great efforts from the crease later in the season. His efforts behind the stumps for the team were impressive. Well done Jeremy! Lucas McLagan came from a trip around our great country with his family back into the cricket season. He all season has been a wonderful team man and an absolute pleasure to coach, always well mannered and a lovely temperament. His bowling went from strength to strength throughout the season. Manish Paida was available only for part of the season but contributed well in that period. He would be a welcome addition to any team. Nicholas Bishop is a naturally talented all round cricketer. He is an aggressive batsman, accurate fast bowler and an outstanding wicket keeper. His passion for the game is such that many a time he played a match for his school in the morning and then rushed back to make his contribution to the team. Well done Mate !!!! Parthiv Subramanian has continued to improve this season as an all round cricketer. His bowling has been the highlight of his season as he has taken important wickets at key times in games. Sometimes is too hard on himself and so he needs to work on enjoying it all more in the years to come. Paul Joseph has been a great team member all season. His bowling efforts have improved consistently throughout the season. He is a well mannered, thoughtful young man who has been a delight to coach. Phillip Garling performed consistently well with excellent pace bowling – many of his deliveries completely beating the batsmen with pace. Also dug in very well with the bat at key times. A committed player with the potential to do well in the years to come. Quentin Cheng is a wonderful athlete who has contributed with both bat and ball throughout the season. He has offered a lot to the team by his efforts at both training and the games. I hope he continues to enjoy the game for many years to come. Sean Connell wore down the opposition with a consistent line and length of bowling. Energetic fielder, ever willing to throw himself at the ball. Extremely useful with the bat too. A dynamic player who always wants to be part of the action. Shubhang Hariharan Another tremendous season. Highest run scorer in the entire U11 competition. Compiled several 40 run knocks which were the backbone of the team innings. When not playing for the Reds he was top scoring for the U11 Rep team. His high quality spin bowling kept the opposition pinned down. We look forward to seeing the team back together for next season and once again enjoying the game of cricket. U12 TEAM REPORT Undefeated Premiers Taylor Davies, Hayden Goddard, Harrison Gregor, Justin Hardy, Hugh Harrington, Matthew Hunter, Anthony Johnston, Kush Kundra, Conor Laidlaw, Etash Pandhi, Robert Potter, Sidharth Satheeshkumar, Nick Wilson The Under 12s trained hard all year and are really maturing as cricketers. The boys continue to impress all with the way they support each other on and off the field and respect umpires and opponents. “Tubby” Taylor Davies – Followed up a stellar 2008-09 season with an even better 2009-10. Had his fans (mostly female) on the edge of their seats as he smashed the ball all over Karuah Park chasing a century against Kisso. Special. [385 runs @ 64.17, H.S. 88 and 5 wickets @ 11.2, B.B. 2-7] Hayden “Haydos” Goddard – Left handed batsman and bowler with a great pair of hands who continues to improve. A big match player - two great innings in the finals helped set up two convincing wins. Had a great T20 season. [134 runs @ 22.33, H.S. 42 and 4 wickets at 16.5, B.B. 1-3] Harrison “Mr Cricket” Gregor – Injuries and illness shortened this talented cricketer’s season. A batting epiphany in the nets at the last training session and the ability to swing the ball both ways should mean lots of runs and wickets next season. [37 runs @ 12.33, H.S. 20no and 5 wickets at 8.6, B.B. 2-10] Justin “Time” Hardy – Another big improver, Juzzy notched up his maiden 50 against Berowra with a thunderous crack to mid-wicket. Juzzy also took a swag of wickets with his off-spinners and just missed out on a hat trick in the semi. Super, super stuff. [151 runs @ 25.17, H.S. 51no and 12 wickets at 5.75, B.B. 3-1]. Hugh “Hefner” Harrington – Tipped to score more runs this year Hef increased his runs tally by 1,008%!!. Very strong off his hip and pads Hef kept scoring all season. Against Berowra Hef took 5-0 including a hat trick! Loves bowling to bunnies and bowled plenty of maidens over. [95 runs @ 23.75, H.S. 41 and 10 wickets @ 4.0, B.B. 3-0] Matthew “Croc” Hunter – Crikey! What a season it was for the croc. Snapped up some sharp slips catches and a screamer at square leg against Hornsby. Batted “better than Anto” in the semi-final. Runs should flow next season. [71 runs @ 11.83, H.S. 32 and 2 wickets @ 29.5, B.B. 1-2] Anthony “Anto” Johnston – A great season for Normo, a great season for Australia, a great season for the world and it was a great season for this young man. No I won’t calm down he’s a hero, unbelievable, it’s all happening the buzz, the crowd. Anto, Anto, Anto…. [350 runs @ 116.67, H.S. 53no and 9 wickets @ 6.2, B.B. 3-7] Kush “the Kosh” Kundra – This baby faced assassin struck fear into the hearts of opposition batters and bowlers alike. Batted well all season and switched to leg spin for the Final taking a career best 3-6. A great addition to the team. Well done. [208 runs @ 29.71, H.S. 50no and 11 wickets @ 5.82, B.B. 3-6] Conor “the Barbarian” Laidlaw – Opening bowler with the ability to identify and attack a batsmen’s weaknesses. Took some very important top order wickets this season and dug out a few tailenders as well. Tipped to score a lot more runs next season. He’s a hero too. [69 runs @ 9.86, H.S. 23 and 11 wickets @ 7.82, B.B. 3-12]

20 Etash “Tashi” Pandhi –A very popular, and most improved cricketer, who notched up his maiden 50 this season to the thunderous applause of his team mates. Opened the bowling, took lots of top order wickets and topped the bowling stats. Marvellous effort that. [117 runs @ 23.4, H.S. 51no and 13 wickets @ 4.54, B.B. 2-0] Robert “Harry” Potter – Left before Christmas to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. [10 runs @ 5.0, H.S. 8no and 1 wicket @ 33.0, B.B. 1-4] Sidharth “Vader” Satheeshkumar – A great “wookie” season for this big hitting right handed batsman, handy close- in fielder and developing outswing bowler. Received a rare pat on the back from Coach Davies after a very mature 10no in the semi. [20 runs @ 3.33, H.S. 10no and 3 wickets @ 18.67, B.B. 2-13] “Nifty” Nick Wilson – A pure, dead, brilliant lower order batsman who notched up his maiden 50 this season smashing the ball to all parts of the ground. His mother could often be heard singing out, “Noo laddy jist haud on!”(translation - slow down lad, take your time). Bowled superbly in the final. [131 runs @ 26.2, H.S. 54 and 5 wickets @ 13.6, B.B. 2-2] Thanks to the parents, family and friends who came along to support the boys in such a knowledgeable and low key way - your sons are a credit to you. Many thanks also to all the parents who helped out, especially Karl, it was greatly appreciated. Well done boys on a great season. We are very proud of you. Player stats follow. 21 U13 BLACK TEAM REPORT As my first year as Coach, I must say I have had tremendous fun coaching the boys this year. Finishing 6th against strong competition, the boy’s efforts should be commended, with some good wins coupled with some disappointing losses; overall a great team performance. The great thing was that no player is without special mention, with the boys’ attitude to the game and sportsmanship allowing them to be competitive against top sides. A great year boys, can’t wait for the next one! David Braithwaite: Though having a season that had a few bumps, Dave bounced back to deliver some great performances with both bat and ball. A highlight with the bat was a quick- fire 24 early in the season that entertained all who watched. With the ball, while not taking a pile of wickets, Dave’s bowling was always economical and allowed other bowlers to capitalise on the pressure Dave’s accuracy had created. Oliver Fisher: A hard worker and constant improver, Oliver showed how hard work at training pays off come match-day. The accuracy of his bowling improved and gained him some great wickets over the course of the season. With the bat, Oliver offered some great lower order support for the team, featuring in many important partnerships, a highlight being his 15 runs in a last wicket partnership with Toby that will go down as one of my personal favourite moments of the year. Pat “Sarge” Grigg: One half of the Dynamic Duo of “Sarge and The Songman”. Patrick showed a great attitude this year and worked hard at all areas of his game. Towards the end of the season, his 16 against Upper Hills-McGrath was valuable as he batted to support higher scorers around him. A highlight for the year was his 32-run last wicket partnership with Patrick “Songman” Song that gave us enough runs to set us up for a big win. Tobias Hilton: Toby delivered some great performances this year with both bat and ball. With the bat, Toby scored his first boundary in cricket, which was met with rousing applause by the whole team on the sideline; his input with Oliver to the partnership was a highlight of the year. With the ball, Toby worked hard with visible results, taking some great wickets and often frustrating opposing batsmen who found it hard to get him away. In the field, Toby’s efforts saw him improve markedly. Dylan Hood: Our Captain and top batsmen, Dylan did an outstanding job in the top spot this year with little assistance from any parents or me as coach, showing his good knowledge of the game. Scored 341 runs at an average of 48.7, coupled with 9 wickets with the ball and doing a great job behind the stumps, Dylan will be sorely missed next year when school sporting commitments increase. Angus Macdonald: A newcomer to the wonderful game this year, Gus learned quickly and was able to settle into cricket very easily. His ability with the bat improved as the year progressed, with Gus trying to turn baseball swings into cricket strokes, but it was with the ball that he really showed talent. Taking 11 wickets at an average of 13.7 through the difficult art of leg spin, he was a valuable addition to an already strong team. Joshua Marshall: Josh was a player whose flexibility made him valuable to the team. Occupying almost every position in the batting order at least once as well as providing some fiery pace bowling and sharp wicket keeping, Josh was a player that was adaptable and delivered some important performances throughout the year. A power-hitter, some of Josh’s shots made fielder’s duck for cover. Luke McDonald: Luke showed a great improvement with the bat this year, including a career highest score of 66 against Hornsby earlier in the season. Finishing up with 159 runs at an average of 22.7, Luke should be proud of his efforts with the bat this year. Also offering his wicket keeping skills as well as some deceptive off-spinners, topped off by a great bowling performance of 3-9 with the ball to hand us an important win, Luke had a great 09/10 season.

22 Ben Reidy: “Mr. Dependable”. Ben delivered with both bat and ball with a great double of 10 wickets at an average of 6.9 and 89 runs with an average of 11.6. His top score of 38 against a top West Pennant Hills team was an innings that should be commended. Often batting in unfavourable positions in the order, Ben’s all round performances and selflessness throughout the year did not go unnoticed. Chris Smith: A hard hitting opening batsmen, often unlucky leg-spin bowler and a fielder with a bigger arm than the coach. Chris was great at the top of the order, scoring 307 runs at an average of 43.9 with a team-best top score of 77. Chris tore apart many opposing teams with very quick runs to kick off many of our innings. In the field, Chris took some catches that had to be seen to be believed, including a casual one-hander against Upper Hills that swung the game back in our favour. Pat “Songman” Song: Our lower order rock and second member of our dynamic duo. As a batsman, Patrick was often hard to dislodge, which meant he was able to build an innings, resulting in a good year with the bat. A key moment was his 25 against Hornsby –Gold that let us really build a big score. With a great work ethic in the field, his skills improved throughout the season. Thomas Xavier: Though starting the season recovering from a serious collar bone injury, Tom had a great year with the ball, taking 12 wickets at a measly average of 8.7. Able to take wickets when the team really needed it, Tom’s swing made him very hard for opposing batsmen to handle. Tom also had a good year with the bat, scoring vital runs in the No.3 position. U13 RED TEAM REPORT This wonderful group of boys have really started to come of age as cricketers and spent most of the season sharing the top of the competition table. A semi-final spot was just rewards for some great efforts on the field, backed by a very solid and consistent effort on the training track. The boys played every minute of every game in the right spirit. The batting in the semi-final was a bit of a calamity, though the team the came out very determined to give it their best and made KP fight every ball to get home in a very tense and hard fought game. Defending a very meagre 81, the boys competed tooth and nail for 49 overs before the game slipped away. Keep up this level of both improvement and effort and better things will come! Josiah Binet: Another great season from this dedicated cricketer. Jos was, on numerous occasions, the ‘go to’ man to steady a wobbly innings, with his sensible calling and deft picking of loose balls from which to score. He top scored with an impressive 47 runs in round 3 to help secure victory for the team. Jos’ bowling was always economical, with the team’s best economy rate of 2.1, his best bowling in round 5 against Hornsby Green, 4-12. Jos also bowled the equal highest number of maidens in HKHDCA u13. Matt Corish: Matty notched up an association-best 390 runs at an incredible 48.8 average runs per innings, with 4 50’s, while also topping the HKHDCA list for wickets taken, with an incredible 19 wickets at 7.8 that included a hat-trick and a five-wicket haul. He also topped the team with 9 catches in the field. Matty is a focussed and committed cricketer who always played passionately and is thoroughly deserving of his results.

23 Lachlan Dixon: This talented ex-baseballer’s batting took off this year, with a great improvement from last season. He notched up 72 runs with a high of 26 in round 3, while at the same time taking 5 wickets at 22.4 with a best of 2-24 in round 1 with his swing bowling. Two great catches in the semi helped us to within a whisker of defeating Kisso. We hope to see you next year, Lachy. Andre Fernandes: Andre’s first season with the club was a great one for both him and the team. From the start of the year when he had trouble landing a ball, to the end where he had Glenn McGrath-style consistency. He scored an impressive 40 runs with a top score of 20 in a great innings against Upper-Hills to help hold the team together and took 2 great catches in rounds 3 and 5. He was a great addition to the team. Hamish Fullagar: Always an encourager to his team-mates, Hamish’s outstanding cricketing ability is matched by his impressive sportsmanship and his positive role model in the team. Hame scored a stunning 347 runs at 43.4 to be the second top run-scorer in the team, took 11 wickets at an average of 10 to also be second in the bowling ranks and was the team’s second-top fielder with 7 catches at keeper. He is your perfect all-round cricketer with skills in batting, bowling, fielding and wicket-keeping. Great work Hame. Jack Hammond: ‘Jacko’ had a great season with both bat and ball to be one of the team’s best. He notched up a huge 211 runs at 35.2 with a top score of 60 in round 1 and 9 wickets at 16.2 with a best of 3-20. He is also a stunning fielder and has the fastest and best arm in the team, taking seven catches to finish equal-second in the fielding stakes. This tireless worker never gives up, and we look forward to seeing him again next year. Jamie Nelson: Jamie improved out of sight since last season. He gained a few extra yards in pace and his batting improved to the point of opening the batting a few times. He scored 90 runs at 11.3 with a highest score of 23 and took 8 wickets at 10.1. His hard work in the nets this season has paid off, to the point of being one of the team’s go-to men. It was a great season from Jamie that contributed greatly to the team’s successes. Will Seaman: Will joined our team this year from Thornleigh, and was an instant success. He started off the year as a medium-pacer, but halfway through the economical spinner changed to Shane Warne’s craft. Will hit 78 runs with a high of 31 in round 2 against the eventual finalists, Kissing Point, while his bowling always seemed to bring a breakthrough at the other end and in the field he took 4 catches, including 2 in round 7 up against Hornsby Gold. A great debut season for Normo Will, and we hope to see you back next season. Jamison Sexty: Jamo’s spin bowling took off this year, with an amazing improvement from late last year in both batting and bowling. He was one of the team’s go-to men, grabbing 6 wickets at 19.3 with a best of 3-9 in round 4, with a batting total of 59 runs at 8.4. Jam is also one of the team’s best catchers, with a great grab in round 3 to dismiss the opposition’s top scorer and topple their last chances. A dynamic cricketer who contributes his all to the team. Aditya Sheorayan: This promising young cricketer has come on in leaps and bounds since the beginning of the year. He took 5 wickets at an average of 15.6 runs per wicket with his nippy medium pace, while scoring 9 runs with a high of 8 in the semi-final. A mid-season break to India seemed to quicken his pace and give him a sharper eye. An impressive season Aditya and we hope to see you next year! Alister Tennant: Ali had a great season this year, with his improvement highlighted by a great catch in round 5 against Hornsby and the wicket of the opposition’s best batsman clean bowled against West Penno in round 9. He nabbed 2 wickets from 16 economical overs. A great stand against Berowra in round 6 was the highlight in Ali’s batting. Jonathan Wood: Despite a mid season move to Barker College, this enthusiastic cricketer still managed to notch up 38 runs for his limited games, with a highest score of 15 in round 8 one of the highlights of the match. He took a great catch in round 4 to finish off the game, and his improvement throughout the year was clear. Hopefully he can squeeze in a few games for us next year when he doesn’t have a game for Barker.

U14 TEAM REPORT This was a great year for the under 14's, with great enthusiasm and performances from the boys. We came third in the table, having led briefly, and our results included 2 outright wins. An exciting semi-final performance unfortunately wasn't quite enough to get us through to the final. Next year we will conquer all.....! Oscar Cole – U13 RH all-rounder. Fast bowler (8 wickets at 11.88) and reliable batsman, unfortunately school team commitments kept him away from playing a full season. Ben Griffiths – U13 RH all-rounder. Injury kept him out of a few games but he still managed to get 6 wickets in 14 overs for an average of 7.67. Will Johnston –RH all-rounder. Great batting technique with a top batting score 56. Reliable and enthusiastic - captained the team well on a number of occasions. Kartik Kundra – RH all-rounder. Classy bowler who has had consistently excellent bowling scores for all the years he has been playing for Normanhurst. Took 18 wickets in 53 overs for an average of 6.67. Danny Martin – RH all-rounder. Very fast in the field, showing enthusiasm and spirit in his second year of cricket. Andries Van Woerkom – RH all-rounder. School commitments kept him away from some games, but Andries made some awesome contributions, taking 13 wickets in 31 overs for an average of 5.38 and attaining a batting high score of 78. Daniel Nicotra – RH all-rounder. Great opening batsman and occasional captain. Scoring 350 runs, including a high batting score of 76 and average of 50. Krishna Logendran – LH all-rounder. Our opening bowler with an average of 6.91 from 78 overs, 19 maidens and 22 wickets, including a hat-trick. Krishna also scored 208 runs, with a high score of 63. A fantastic season! Jack Miller – RH all-rounder. Strong batsman, spin-bowler and occasional captain. An asset to the team with a batting high score of 62, excellent bowling and terrific fielding skills. Kurtis O'Brien – RH batsman and very strong bowler. Kurtis had a great season with some good batting innings and always very strong bowling performances. He bowled 51 overs, of which 20 were maidens and 12 wickets fell. Particular performance was 6 maidens in 9 overs during the semi-final! Guy Ruggles – RH batsman. Guy had a good year and was a very reliable and consistent batsman. His partnership with Krishna against Mount Colah was a highlight which contributed significantly to that win. Grayson McLeod – RH all-rounder. A great team player, always enthusiastic and supportive of everyone. Grayson was one of the main-stays in the slips. Christian Sharpe – RH batsman and wicket keeper. Another great year for Christian, always enthusiastic, his wicket keeping continues to improve. He is always at training and is always willing to bat in any order. An asset to the team, always at training and a great wicket keeper.

25 Khushal Polepalle – good bowler and team player. Unfortunately, Khushal missed a few games, but still showed himself as a good and reliable bowler. Took 1 wicket for 4 runs in the semi-final. Many thanks to all the parents who helped and contributed this year. BATTING AWARD: Daniel Nicotra BOWLING AWARD: Krishna Logendran COACHES’ AWARD: Christian Sharp

U15 TEAM REPORT The best thing about the U15’s was, as usual, seeing a group of boys who genuinely enjoy each others company, encourage one another and celebrate each other’s achievements and development as cricketers. The season got off to an amazing start, with the boys scoring 3 for 395 in week 1 of round 1, including two centuries (to Nathan and Luke)! At the end of the competition rounds the boys were one of three teams to have only lost one match (in our boy’s case by a single run), however, due to the peculiarities of results when teams had byes, our boys entered the semi finals from third place. Whilst our boys played two hours of superb cricket in their semi final it ended in considerable controversy with the result ultimately being determined by the association and our boys declared the winners on a forfeit. Unfortunately, our boys could not replicate their performance the next day and were comprehensively beaten by a brilliant Berowra team in the final. Being runner’s up in a very tough competition was probably a fitting result, reflective of the effort the boys put in through the season. Perhaps with this finals experience the boys may be able to take things one step further next season? The team was: James Austin: started the years with a flourish, scoring a quick 24 in round 1. Took 4 wickets and 3 catches, including two in the final. Looking forward to see what he can do next season. Tim Blunt: continued to develop as a fine wicket keeper. Few opportunities with the bat. Showed good leadership skills captaining the team to victory over eventual premier’s Berowra in round 3. Chris Bourke: another strong season all round. Scored 182 runs, as a very solid opener, and took 6 wickets and 5 catches. Michael Bradley: made the big transition from pace to spin, developing as a very good leg spinner. Also made some good innings, including a very strong innings against Redfield in round 6. Matt Briscoe: a very successful season. Scored 217 runs. Now a very solid opening bat. Took 5 wickets at an average of 7. Also took 8 catches, including 4 as back-up wicket keeper. Ryan Coutts: always reliable and a great team member. Few opportunities with the bat but took 3 wickets with his medium- and 5 catches. Tayler McCann: provided the team with additional depth in both bowling and batting. Took 10 wickets at an average of 17.9 and scored 153 runs, including some huge hits!

26 Harrison Middlebrook: played whenever he could and always gave his all. Bowled with great passion, taking 5 wickets. Tomlin Poynton: a very popular team member and a great contributor to team morale! Batted fearlessly, and really developed his bowling. An inspiration in the field. Utkarsh Somaiya: after a relatively slow start, played himself into form through the season, with great determination, scoring 176 runs at an average of 44 and taking 11 wickets at an average of 19. Nathan Tanner: enjoyed a sensational season, scoring 443 runs at an average of 88.6 and taking 17 wickets at an average of 10. Individual champion in the entire competition. Luke Thorburn: another great season, just keeps getting better and better. Scored 308 runs at an average of 44. Took 3 wickets and 4 catches. Captained the side with aplomb, including in the finals. Hayden Witts: Only able to play a handful of matches, but always a welcome addition with his left arm orthodox bowling, aggressive batting and superb fielding. U16 TEAM REPORT The U16 team achieved much more than we had hoped for or expected when we were rating our chances at the start of the season. The team finished second after the home-and-away rounds, winning 8 out of 9 games, losing its only match to the eventual premiers. The team’s best result for the season was its round 5 victory against Mt Colah. This match featured a record batting partnership of 294 between Ben Phillips and Rajiv Chandrasena, both boys scoring exhilarating hundreds. The team made 5/343 and won the game by 86 runs. In the Semi-Final we were narrowly edged out by Mt Colah in a tight match. Mt Colah then went on to be soundly beaten by WPHC-White in a low-scoring Final; leaving us wondering how we might have fared had we got lucky in the semi … batting being our real strength! Overall, it had been an excellent season with all of the boys making good contributions. They are a fantastic group of young men and we’re sure that they all found their time with the U16s rewarding; as indeed we, as coach and manager, did. Congratulations boys on an excellent season. Mitch Fullagar Captain in his 10th season with the Club. Aside from his inspiring leadership throughout the season, Mitch had a good year with both bat and ball. He scored 140 runs (best of 69) and took 18 wickets at 12.22 av. (best 6/27). He was the 4th most successful bowler in the U16 competition. Tim Acheson The team’s main strike bowler, Tim took 17 wickets at 12.24 av. (best 4/21). He also scored 126 runs (best of 33*) and was one of the most improved players in both disciplines compared with last season; when in the U15s he took only 6 wickets and scored 31 runs. He was 6th most successful bowler in the U16 competition. 8 years with Normo. Rhys Briot Since joining Normo from Pennant Hills a couple of years ago, Rhys has always been a dependable team man. Although his batting was a little lean this season (35 runs), he was a reliable fielder and a handy late innings bowler (5 wickets, best 2/0).

27 Rajiv Chandrasena Undoubtedly, this was Rajiv’s best season of cricket ever. He scored 385 runs at 64 av., including a blazing 169 in the Rd 5 match against Mt Colah. He also took 5 wickets and 11 outfield catches. He was the 4th highest run scorer in the U16 competition. Rajiv also scored over 300 runs in senior cricket for Normo and played reps for HKHDCA. He was desperately unlucky to miss out on a team award this season. Nick Fullagar This was Nick’s 10th season with Normo. He took 8 wickets at 15.3 av., saving his best performance for the semi-final when he took a team-lifting 3/13. Nick also scored 31 runs. Sam Hogan Came to us from Pennant Hills and proved to be a solid contributor with both bat and ball. Scored 114 runs at 16 av. (best of 29). Sam also played most of the season in the D2 senior side where he scored 276 runs and took 18 wickets. Michael Moore A handy middle-order batsman, spin bowler and wicket-keeper, Michael scored 105 runs (best of 44), took 2 wickets and 6 keeping dismissals. Sam Morris One of the team’s quick bowlers, Sam took 8 wickets at 17 av. (best 3/2) and scored 67 runs from limited opportunities (best of 41). 11 years with Normo. David O’Connor ‘Doc’ is one of the most dependable and best liked on the team. Although his results were modest, he is a great team player and always gives his best. From limited opportunities, he scored 24 runs at 8 av., took 2 wickets and 5 catches. 5 years with Normo. Matt Page School commitments restricted Matt to 6 games. He is a fierce competitor and always pushes himself to perform at his best. Limited opportunities meant that we didn’t get full use of his obvious talents but Matt nevertheless scored 130 runs at 26 av. (best of 50) and took 8 wickets at an astonishing 4.5 av. (best 3/2). Ben Phillips Undoubtedly, the team’s (if not the Club’s) most outstanding player in 2009/10. Ben is an enormously talented cricketer with boundless potential, as his results this season attest. Ben scored 567 runs at 81 av. and was the leading scorer in the U16 competition. He scored 2 hundreds and 3 fifties (best of 125). He also took 8 wickets and 8 catches as wicket-keeper. During the season, in addition to playing juniors and seniors with Normo, Ben played in the HKHDCA U15 reps, Emerging Blues, Green Shield and Grade for Western Suburbs and represented NSW in a national public schools competition. In seniors for Normo, Ben scored a further 617 runs, taking his overall tally for the Club to more than 1,100 runs. He scored 5 centuries along the way … a truly outstanding performance! Marcus Spink A keen cricketer who transferred from Mt Colah this season. His most notable performance was a magnificent bowling display against Hornsby when he took 5/10, which included 3 wickets in the first over of his spell … devastating! Andrew Watson New to the Club this season, Andrew is one of the most avid cricket fans you’ll ever run across … a real student of the game. His opportunities were limited during the season due to school cricket. He nevertheless showed incredible commitment to the team, rarely missing a training session. His best performance was a bowling return of 2/10 in an early season game against WPHC-Red. Liam Willis One of the best liked and respected players in the team, Liam is a fantastic role model and always put the team’s interests ahead of his own. Although statistically his results were modest, Liam’s efforts on and off the field – always encouraging and supportive – were a vital ingredient to the team’s success this season. His season’s tally was 29 runs, 1 wicket and 3 catches. 7 years with Normo. BATTING AWARD: Ben Phillips (567 runs @ 81.0 av.) BOWLING AWARD: Mitch Fullagar (18 wickets @ 12.22 av.) This season Normanhurst-Warrawee entered teams in both the U12 and U14 competitions. Both teams had very successful campaigns winning all of their pool games and qualifying for the semi-finals at Blacktown Olympic Park. In what were two incredibly close games, the results of which were both decided on the last ball, the U14s won through to the grand final at the SCG whilst the U12s just missed out. The boys played some amazing, attacking cricket but more importantly they gave it their best, supported each other and played all their games in the right spirit. Well done boys. Many thanks also to all the parents and the Committee for their support. A personal highlight was the great vibe created down at Normo Oval in the late afternoons by family and friends who had come along to relax and watch some Twenty20 cricket. Marvellous stuff that.

31 SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

D Reserve Grade Despite our outstanding bowling efforts in getting Kenthurst all out for 156 in 67 overs on the day1 of the finals, we could not go no to clinch that Final Victory, as we succumbed to a very good bowling attack. Well, it was not the finish we wanted to end the season, but improved a notch from last season. Never mind there is always the “Next Season!” Irrespective of the final result, I believe, we did very well this season. That too, after reaching the bottom of the ladder during early in the season (due to non availability of few key players), the resilience and the fighting spirits shown by the team was commendable. The season had identified new talents among the new comers, improved the maturity of the young players and also shown us what the re-invigorated skills of the senior players could do in the hour of needs. In the end, we not only grouped nicely to play as a team and but also turned out to be a well balanced team that could beat any of our opponents in the comp. I was privileged to lead such a wonderful team this season. The highlights of the season include: • Scoring 130 runs in 18 overs in a 20/20 style to clinch an outright win against the Castle Hill. • 9 wins, 2 draws and 5 losses (including the Final) that included 3 outright wins, a 300plus runs total, 3 x 200plus runs total and got the opponents out for “Two digit totals” on 6 occasions. • Batting efforts include: one player scoring 400+ runs, 5 players scoring 200+ runs and 2 players scoring 100+ runs. These include one century and 10 x half century scores. • Bowling efforts include: 2 players claiming 20+ wickets and 4 players claiming 10+ wickets. These include 1 x 5 wickets haul, 3 x 4 wickets hauls and 12 x 3 wickets hauls. • Fielding efforts include: 60 catches and 8 run outs. • Keeping efforts include: 12 catches and a stumping (between 5 players) • The Records for the season: • 10th position Champion Player – R Tamilarasan – 85 points (only played half the season) • Highest 7th wicket partnership – R Tamilarasan* & M Donnelly* – 100* Andrew Bastoli – One of the opening bowlers of the team. Bowls a good medium pace, accurate and economical. Claimed 18 wickets for the season including a match winning 4 wicket haul against WPHC. Carried out the Captain’s duty for one of the matches this year. Justin Donnelly –The Best Bowler of the year. Significantly increased the pace, while maintaining the accuracy. Claimed 28 wickets for the season including a match winning 5 wickets haul against Hornsby, a 4 wickets haul against St Ives and 3 x 3 wickets hauls. A reliable batsman and an excellent fielder. Scored 136 runs. He played only half the season due to his HSC exams. Imagine what will be his stats like, if he had played the full season? Mike Donnelly – A reliable left hand batsman and the main Wicket Keeper of the team. Scored 257 runs including two half centuries. Great mentor, when batting with young players. Instrumental in big partnerships during this season (had 2 x century partnerships with C Bourke & R Tamilarasan) and took 5 catches as a keeper. Carried out the Captain’s duty for two matches. 32 Mike Hogan – Joined the team as a fill-in player and became a permanent member of the team. He turned out to be an excellent slip fielder taking 7 sharp catches for the season. His contribution as a fielding coach for the young players in the team is commendable. Sam Hogan – Amazing player with all round cricketing abilities. A reliable top order batsman – scored 276 runs that included 2 x half centuries and a century partnership with David Posener. An intelligent swing bowler – claimed 18 wickets including 3 x 3 wickets hauls for the season. An outstanding fielder, who not only took 11 catches but also involved in 2 run outs this season. Ed Knowles – A left arm medium pace swing bowler who showed considerable improvements to his bowling skills this year. He took 17 wickets this year including a 4 wickets haul against Kissing Point in the semi-finals. His achievements this year include; taking at least one wicket on every match he bowled and an unbeaten 24 runs match winning partnership with Andrew Mullen against WPHC. He also tried keeping wickets for one of the matches and claimed 2 catches and a stumping as a keeper. Nick Mowat – A reliable lower order batsman and a specialist mid on/mid off fielder. Scored 165 runs and took 5 catches for the season. It was pity he could not bowl this season due to a shoulder injury and also could not play many games due to the same reasons. However, his efforts coming to many matches just to support the team are commendable. Andrew Mullen – One of the promising new comers of the year. It was a pity he could play only 4 matches for us, as he moved overseas due to work commitments. His major achievement was his brave batting efforts (21*) against WPHC to win the match for us. David Posener – One of the promising new comers, proved to be a very good opening batsman who scored 278 runs for the season that included a half century. He started as a change bowler but turned out to be an excellent left arm swing bowler in the end, who can bowl with a lot of variations. His outstanding bowling efforts fetched him 16 wickets for the season that included a 4 wickets haul and a 3 wickets haul. Raja Rajamohan – Captain, a pinch hitter (scored few sixes for the season) but not a consistent batsman. Handy slow bowler but could not bowl this year due to a knee injury. A good slip fielder taking 5 catches for the season. Due to few overseas trips unable to play many matches this season. Steven Rapley – Vice-captain and lead the team as captain for 4 matches this season. He tried and became a good opening batsman of the team this season scoring 227 runs that included a half century. A specialist mid on/mid off fielder and took 4 catches that included a catch requiring over 20 meters of running. Also tried keeping wickets for one of the matches and took a catch as a keeper. Rahul Tamilarasan – Despite playing only half the season due to HSC, Rahul proved himself to be the star player of our team again. A brutal lower order batsman who punishes the bad bowling mercilessly. He is the only centurion (112*) of the team this year and scored 436 runs for the season that included 2 x half centuries as well. A fast bowler who brings fear in the opposing batsmen’s mind with his speed and power. Whilst claiming only 8 wickets, the fear factor he creates assisted the bowlers on the other end taking wickets. He is also an excellent fielder taking 5 catches for this season. Jeff Thomson – One of the promising new comers. Proved to be an excellent slow medium bowler. His bowling accuracy makes it hard to bat which earned him 21 wickets with a 2.8 economy rate for this season that included 4 x 3 wickets hauls. He is a reliable lower order batsman, scored 77 runs for the season and saved the match couple of times going in as night watchman. Despite sustaining a bad injury to his finger (fracture), he turned up for all the matches played to support the team. He also claimed 5 catches for the season and carried out the Captain’s duty for one the matches this season.

33 Hadley Wood – a handy medium pace bowler, lower order batsman and a team player, who has substantially improved his skills during this season. Hadley scored 26 runs and took 3 wickets for the season and with the improvements he has shown, I am confident that he will be a force to reckon with in the future. Chris Bourke – a very good top order batsman and a handy medium pace bowler. A junior team player, who initially played for us to make up the numbers but turned out to be permanent member of the team playing 8 matches for us in the end. He scored 224 runs that included a half century and took 9 wickets including a 3 wickets haul this season. Matt Briscoe – a handy top order batsman and a spin bowler. A junior team player, who initially played for us to make up the numbers but ended up playing 6 matches for us this season. He mostly kept the wickets for us when he played and took 3 catches as a keeper. He also took 2 more catches as a fielder. Substitute players – last but not the least, our team appreciates the efforts of the substitute players; James Austin, Adrian Buddle, Alexander Buddle, Andrew Thomson, Tim Blunt and Mike Bradley, who helped us fielding the full team in many matches throughout this season. BATTING AWARD: Rahul Tamilarasan BOWLING AWARD: Justin Donnelly CAPTAINS AWARD: David Posener Captain: Rajamohan

D Grade I would like to start my end of season captain’s report by thanking all my team mates for a fantastic season. The season began for us from the time our team decided to join Normanhurst Warrawee. Several net sessions being attended by all the players was a promising start. The new found enthusiasm for the game was shown in the first game itself, where despite several injuries and facing a target of 290 we drew the game against eventual champions WPHC by being 5 for 216 before light interrupted our march to victory. Whilst the season produced too many highlights to name every single one, there were certain memorable moments that the entire team will continue to cherish. Our opening batsmen, Parag “Haldiram” Powani and Madan “Ogre” Alagarraja, had a good season with both batsmen passing 200 runs and providing several starts that laid the platform for the middle order. Both openers also contributed significantly in the field throughout the season. Our number 3 position was changed on several occasions, depending upon the situation of the game. However, the most prolific player in this role was Starvin’ Marvin, known to the rest of the world as Sandeep Sharma just fell shy of 400 runs for the season, a fantastic effort in his first season with us. Sandeep also picked up 8 wickets at crucial times throughout the season, whenever he was called upon to bowl. Amit Ramdev occupied the number 4 slot with aplomb, at times getting carried away thinking he was Sachin Tendulkar occupying the spot in the Indian middle order. This was a great effort by the little man who passed 400 runs for the season and took 11 surprising and highly entertaining wickets with his “loopy” offspin. Pradeep Iyer took up one of the all rounder slots in our team. His slow legspin delivered with the run up the length of Brett Lee’s proved instrumental in winning games. Pradeep picked up over 35 wickets and just fell shy of 200 runs for the season. However, the highlight was his first 100 in all forms of cricket, a moment he is likely to cherish for years to come.

34 Abhishek Rao came into our team with claims of being just a bowler whose batting was as inconsistent as those from our neighbouring brothers Pakistan. However the portly lad from Mumbai, managed not only to score over 200 runs but also picking up 16 wickets, a figure that should’ve been much higher had the fielders supported him better. The Jeremiah brothers; Neil and Richard had a mixed season. However, true to their word the second half of the season resulted in Richard getting in to some batting form only he is capable of, showing off a pull shot that Ricky Ponting would be proud of and Neil Jeremiah leading the way in the semi final with spirited yet an unlucky bowling performance. Neil capped off his season with 16 wickets which included a date with Michelle “5fer” in the early part of the season. Chavi Dissanayake, our Russel Arnold look-alike from Sri Lanka was easily our most valuable player. The quickest bowler in the competition led the bowling attack with 38 wickets and scored 250 runs at an average of 50 and plenty of entertainment to top it all off. Our entire team may still not understand this Lankan legend but we understand his ability on the cricket field. Satish Krishnan came into the team playing his first season of cricket and used every ounce of his tennis experience whilst coming out to bat. Not only did he pass a 100 runs but had several partnerships throughout the season that saved and set up our charge for victory. Likening himself to Roger Federer on the cricket field, Satish has aspirations of batting in the top 7 and hoping to never bowl on a cricket field again. Chetan Shukla, our very own Pigeon McGrath, started the season somewhat slowly but eventually found his groove to get back into his metronomic ways and was the stability in our bowling line up. A true miser, Chetan took 33 wickets for the season including 8 wickets in one game against Asquith. His modus operandi with the bat; to imitate the New Zealand number XI Chris Martin, reflected in his comical batting, with an average of 2.2. Navin Enjeti, the MS Dhoni wannabe. Scoring over 450 runs and gaining 22 dismissals was not enough to get the team through the semi final. However, rest assured the chirpiness behind the stumps is likely to remain through to future seasons. The highlight of the season was the camaraderie within the team.

Finally, I would like to thank the entire team for season 2009-10 and look forward to the next season for better results. BATTING AWARD: Navin Enjeti BOWLING AWARD: Pradeep Iyer CAPTAIN’S AWARD: Amit Ramdev Captain: Navin Enjeti

C3 Grade I would like to say that it has been an absolute pleasure playing cricket this season with the fellas. C3’s was a new team of individuals with varying skill levels. Each player has embraced the spirit of the game and improved their skills to produce consistent and strong performances by the end of the season. The camaraderie displayed by each player was the catalyst to our success this season. This was my first time as a cricket captain and I must say it was very rewarding. We finished 3rd on the ladder with 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses. We entered the Semi Final with plenty of confidence. After winning the toss we elected to bowl as we had to bowl the 2nd placed team out to give ourselves a chance at making the final. We attacked Day 1 to produce a respectable performance against a team that was mainly blocking to bat out as many overs as possible. The first session only produced one wicket for 53 off 25 overs. A little frustrating however the fellas stayed focused (even with the negative tactics of our opposition) which produced a mini collapse in the 2nd session. They batted for 81 overs to score 145 runs. Highlights include Cam’s 5/30 (18 overs), Amran’s 3/22 (13 overs), Rajiv 2/21 (14 overs), 6 catches and some great keeping by Tim. This was within our reach given our performances all season. Day 2 we started well however our opponents continued their negative tactics by disputing every decision, slowing the over rate to a ridiculous 9 overs per hour and continually making field changes. Without saying too much more we did not make it to the final. However I am very proud of the way my team conducted themselves throughout the Semi and the entire season. Great effort fellas, I am very proud of all your efforts and I look forward to us all playing as a team next season. I would like to thank the following people for their support during the season: Players: James Blair, Sunny Bopara, Graham Hobbs, Ryan Hobbs, Mitchell Fullager, Pat Muldrew and Anuj Gupta. Supporters: Janet Clarke, Catherine Griffin, Michael Allen, Ranjan Chandrasena and Graham Hobbs. The highlights of the season include: • 7 wins, 4 draws and 3 losses including 1 outright win. • Batting efforts include: runs scored Tim 300 (62 no), Ben 281 (including 2 centuries 142 no), Mike 269 (48), Rajiv 275 (77), Lalit 230 (85), Manish 196 (51), Madura 155 (36). Also top scores by Pat 36no, Aiden 39, Jake 26, Amran 22, Cam 15 no and Dirk 11 no. • Bowling efforts include: wickets taken include Cam 31 (5/30), Madura 16 (4/19), Aiden 15 (3/37), Dirk 14 (3/10), Mike 14 (4/97), Amran 13 (4/16), Rajiv 8 (3/46), Manish 6 (4/10 including a Hat trick), Lalit 6 (2/10), Pat 6 (2/24) and Sunny 5 (3/19). • Hat trick by Manish Jindal (4/10 against WPHC White. • Fielding efforts include: Mike 12 catches, Cam 6, Rajiv 6, Ben 5, Manish 4, Amran 4, Aiden 4, James 4 (with some absolute brilliant fielding during his 4 matches for the team), Dirk 2 and Lalit, Graham, Pat, Madura and Sunny 1 each. • Keeping efforts include: Tim 9 catches, minimal byes and one catch as a fielder.

36 Aiden Allen “Aido” – Aiden is the quiet achiever in our team. He captained the side twice and produced 2 victories. A beautiful batting technique and good middle order batsman. Aiden is an all rounder and bowled beautifully throughout the season taking 15 wickets and took 4 catches. He has a good tactical sense of the game and produced some innovative fielding to help the team to victory on several occasions. A top effort Aiden, you are a true gentleman. I look forward to you captaining a side next season. Cameron Allen “Cam” – Cam excelled as a bowler this season to claim 31 wickets and the title of our best bowler. He has an uncanny action that produces the results each match. Cam had five 3 wicket performances and a best bowled of 5/30 in the Semi Final. Rajiv embraces the spirit of the game and was always ready to bat, bowl or field wherever he was required by his Captain. It is a pleasure to award Rajiv with my Captain’s Award for this season. Dirk Drieberg “The Destroyer” – Dirk is a fine cricketer, a true gentleman and the statesman of our club. Dirk is a good example for all us cricketers to follow with his sportsmanship, ethics and good nature. Dirk bowls some lovely spin and took 14 wickets with a best bowled of 3/10. Dirk was not often required to bat at 11 however when he did he did well and made a top score of 11 no. Well done Dirk, many thanks for your support and tireless umpiring, I look forward to you playing next season and continuing your performances with the ball. Pat Ferrara “Paddy” – Pat is a fine cricketer and magnificent athlete. Pat opened the bowling and took 6 wickets with a best bowled of 2/24. Pat proved to be too good for the batsman hence was unlucky not to get more wickets. Pat scored 145 runs at an average of 18.1 with a top score of 36 n.o. Pat has enormous enthusiasm and is a great inspiration to his team mates. Well done Pat, I wish you well with your soccer in the off season and look forward to you playing next season and continuing your performances with the bat and ball. A top score of 48 just 2 runs shy of that illusive half century. Mike took 12 catches and had 1 run out during the season. Mike bowled whenever required and took 14 wickets with a best of 4/97.

37 Tim Griffin “Grif” – Tim did a fantastic job behind the stumps for us this season taking 9 catches and minimising byes. Tim was a great help in setting the field and encouraging the bowlers by discussing tactics after every over bowled. Tim was our top run scorer with 300 runs at an average of 30.0. A top score of 62 n.o. against the 1st placed team and several vital partnerships saw Tim awarded the Batting Trophy this season. Thanks for all your help mate, much appreciated. Graham Hobbs “Cousin” – Graham joined our team to assist us whenever required throughout the season. Having previously played cricket at a higher level Graham taught us all a few tricks on the field. Many thanks for your support Graham and tireless umpiring, I look forward to you helping us out again next season. Jake Hobbs “Angus” – Jake is improved dramatically as a cricketer this season. Jake backed up after playing juniors all morning to stay focused and produces some consistent performances with the bat. Always ready to open the batting Jake proved to be a solid batsman staying at the crease each time to see the new ball out. Jake had a top score of 26 and is developing a lovely batting technique. His fielding has improved dramatically throughout the season including some good returns of the ball. Jake was always ready to bat, bowl or field wherever he was required by his Captain. Well done Jake, I look forward to you playing again next season. Manish Jindal “Jingles” – Manish is a fine cricketer and true gentleman. Manish suffered a shoulder injury early in the season therefore only bowled 15 overs. However he took 6 wickets including a hat trick with a best bowled of 4/10. Manish while visibly suffering pain batted and fielded and scored 196 runs at an average of 20.0 with a top score of 51. A magnificent effort Manish and I look forward to you playing next season injury free and producing more fine performances with the bat and ball. Madura Pererra “Madman” – Madura joined the team in round 2 and proved to be a force to recon with as our opening bowler. Some lovely pace and bounce saw Madura take 16 wickets. Madura had two 4 wicket performances and a best bowled of 4/19. Madura was also handy with the bat and opened the batting several times to blast some runs to set the pace. He scored 155 runs with a top scored of 36. Well done Madura, I look forward to you playing next season and further developing your opening bowling attack. Ben Phillips “Benny” – Ben is an outstanding young cricketer with a marvellous batting technique. Ben scored 2 centuries and was sadly graded out of C3’s. Ben is a pleasure to have on the team and is developing into a fine young gentleman. I wish you every success in your future cricket career. Also thanks to your Mum Angie for her support throughout the season. Amran Sinah “Tiger” – Amran is a fine cricketer who this year found great form with the ball. Usually known as a batsman he took to bowling medium pace this season to produce some fine performances. Some lovely swing saw Amran take 13 wickets with a best bowled of 4/16. Amran was also handy with the bat and had a top score of 39. Amran is a great fielder and took 4 catches and consistently showed some inspirational fielding efforts all season. Well done Amran, I look forward to you playing next season and monopolising on your performances with the bat and ball. 38 C Reserve Grade Pat Muldrew (c), Nick Muldrew, John Herdman, Michael Devitt, Scott Lloyd-Owen, Connor Siebel, Pat Brackin, John Acheson, Tim Acheson, Brad Cole, Bryan Massey, Brad McGuire and Dave Norton. Well it was a year of missed opportunities and some ordinary luck with weather that really had us behind the eight ball. Surprisingly, it was the batting that was quite consistent from the team right throughout the season. As always Pat Muldrew peaked in the first match of the season with 86 and from then on until Christmas it was the John Herdman show. Some really outstanding application saw him rack up a club record 220* and 143 in consecutive innings. John went on to amass 482 runs @ 68.86 in another superb season. The bowlers toiled hard this year and due to about four or five washouts when we were in the field didn’t get the best looking returns. The pick for me though was Tim Acheson. Coming in to help us out when we were short, he bowled fantastic line at pace and really got the ball to move around in the air. His 9 wickets @ 12.44 with a strike rate of 19.67 show just how much of a force he could be in the seasons ahead. The team really started to play some great cricket towards the end of the season and the man who deservingly did very well at the back end of the year was Michael Devitt (496 runs @ 41.33 HS. 171 and took 9 wickets @ 26.22 BB. 4/36). He was our rock at the top of the order all year without getting a big score but in the last two innings of the year he got his reward with a great fifty against the competition winners Berowra and then a majestic 171 against Kenthurst. Just for fun, he finished that same match off with the ball, claiming 4/36 - just to prove he can still do it all. With the season over I’d like to thank all the lads and especially those who filled in when needed: Manoj Rajamohan, Dave Medcalf, Sam Hogan, Dave Bell, Laclan Hamilton and Liam Willis. Cheers guys for being around when we needed you A big thanks to Nick Muldrew for running the team in my absence and coming along to do the captain’s ticket despite living in town and really not being hugely thrilled by it, I really appreciate it. On to bigger and better things next year. BATTING AWARD: John Herdman BOWLING AWARD: Tim Acheson CAPTAIN’S AWARD: Michael Devitt Captain: Pat Muldrew

C Grade After a promising start to the 09/10 season with a lovely century to our Club President, John Corish (117 retired) & a 5/16 to Ed Sowden, lack of numbers & having a regular side each week lead to the team missing out on reaching the semis by 1 place after being equal first at the start of December. Having only 7-8 regulars in the side each week made it difficult for the guys to develop successful regular partnerships. However, there were several significant milestones to celebrate during the season; • Simon Boland’s maiden century (129) supported by Lindsay Haertsch’s first 50 (72) in seniors to combine for a 3rd wicket stand of 210! Not bad considering NWCC was 2/6 when they came together at the crease! Lindsay was definitely the find of the season stepping up into the openers slot in the new year with great success! • Karl Davies combined his big-hitting with his deceptive medium pacers where he even managed to pick up a hat-trick against Kissing Point, with the 3rd wicket being judged lbw by the opposing captain! 39 • Owen Rajayogan was his usual energetic self, always leading with his actions whether opening the batting or bowling, the highlight being his 55 against in a team total of 110 when we were struggling at 4/11! • Mitchell Davidson was always keen to get amongst the action whether it be with the bat or ball. He worked on his technique all year & is always trying to improve his game. • Alan Rigney stepped up into the vacant keepers position & made it his one with some solid keeping & wonderful catches behind the stumps. We’d like to thank those in the club who were willing & able to help us out over the season with regular cameo appearances. Peter Johnston, Mick Smith, Braden Cheng, Ben Phillips, and Josh Davies were all regular contributors to the team when called upon, with Will Johnston and Taylor Davies also making appearances. Normanhurst C grade did field over 40 players this season so I’d like to thank them all for answering the call for help! Simon Boland – batting avg: 211 @52.8, bowling: 6wkts at 16.0 Mitch – batt: 93 @9.3, bowling: 13wkts @25.7 Lindsay – batt: 216 @ 21.6, bowling: 10wkts @ 12.9 Karl – batt: 216 @ 21.6, bowling: 12wkts @ 18.5 Owen – batt: 151 @ 30.2, bowling: 19 wkts @ 12.1 Sime: batt: 33 @ 6.6, bowling: 8@ 11.8 Al: batt: 18 @ 4.5 (C grade) Total: 41 @ 8.2

B Grade Our third straight season in the finals! This team has become a sort of family – and with the brothers and the occasional son on the team, you could almost say we are. Outright wins, outright loses, some poorly timed rain and some brilliant batting partnerships paired with some outstanding bowling effort sums up the season. Each and every member of the team found a way to step up at different times in the season when a game was on the line. Well done boys – we’ll get there next year! Tom Dempsey is the best batsman I know to have never scored a ton or a six – until this year when both came in a phenomenal 315 run chase against Kenthurst to win the game with 3 wickets to spare. Tom’s batting was consistent all year, ending with one of the best averages in the team at 32.09. Brett Salisbury always got the team off to start with consistent double figures, and was always good for a beautiful boundary and a shocking quip on the field. The curse of the four- and-out stuck around for a few games but in the end Brett put up a solid 252 runs for the season. Duncan Haigh While poor Dunc’s couldn’t get a break with the bat this year – seeming to be the one to face every perfectly delivered ball – but his excellent efforts in the field led to several clutch catches. ….

40 Brad Lafranchi put one of the fastest fifty’s I’ve ever seen with 3 sixes and 7 fours against ARL to chase down a score of 179 and win us the game. Brad’s power with the bat is not to undermine his bowling efforts, coming through for us with 4 wickets this season.

Brett Turpin Turps returned again this year with big hitting getting a 94 against Kuring-Gai Chase to assure us another win. Paired with his consistent scoring throughout the season, Turpin made one of the highest run totals (435) and averages (27.19) in the comp, more runs than rival…… Alex Martyn joined the team this year and led us in scoring. Fifty after fifty, his run streak seemed endless. Partnerships were built on the back of Al’s batting and helped us to achieve most of our wins, leading Al to have one of the comp’s highest averages (38.82) – but this was less important than the fact that he scored 8 less runs than Turpin! And despite looking as unlike a keeper as possible, Al stepped up to have a stellar season with the gloves. Dave Martyn Also new to the team this year, the elder Martyn brother was not to be outdone by his younger counterpart. Dave’s pace bowling was a welcome addition to the team. With a total of 21 wickets this season, Dave quickly became our opening paceman. Cam Riddett What can we say about our loyal captain? The ‘ranga’ put up possibly his best bowling effort ever. He finished second in the comp with a total of 37 wickets, 2 five wicket games and a best effort of 5/12. More than once our captain got us out of a jam with his brilliant bowling. We all learned something very valuable…icy poles get wickets if you have a ranga! Mike Benjamin While has been labelled ‘the team morale officer’, and the question around what he contributes to the team in addition to Brumby’s pull-aparts has often been raised, we learned that ‘Benji’ delivers at clutch time. Benji was at bat three times, and pitched in with a total of 10 wickets. If only we could teach him not to run himself and his team mates out! Naish Somaiya Mister consistency when it comes to bowling, Naish again made a huge contribution to our bowling efforts with 24 total wickets. In fact, Naish took at least two wickets in all but three bowling efforts, boasting a best effort of 6/40 in a game winning effort. Matt Salisbury After nearly losing an eye Macter came back in style and took 11 wickets this season. As has consistently been his trademark, Macter had three not outs with the bat this season, showing his penchant for being there when the winning runs are scored (not to be confused with being the last man standing when we lose, or just simply batting 11…) Tanya Latanville Captains Note: A BIG thankyou must go out to all those who helped out during the season, without you we would surely have struggled to win key games: In order of appearance Nathan Turpin, Uktaish Somaiya, Scott McLennan, Ben Fahey, Tony Nunn, Lachlan Ford, Matt Pendleton, Tom Cole, Murray Watts, Cameron Griffin, Ken Tham, Glen Holden, Simon Leveau, Nick Garton, Owen Rajayogen & Lindsay Haertsch. Many thanks to Tanya for her much loved support throughout the year. Not only was she present, but very vocal in her support us lads and her boyfriend. 41 Colts Grade Following the break-up of the A grade side from last season, a new look NWCC Colts outfit took to the field for 2009/10 as the club sought to return to the premier grade. Only three regulars from last season’s Colts team remained – Jason Maxworthy, Matt Pendleton and Cameron Griffin. With no A grade team, Tom Cole, Matt Nelson and Cal Waldegrave were able to return to the under 19 competition while Cameron Griffin stepped up from the junior ranks. No longer having school cricket commitments, Daniel Wood returned to his junior club and brought with him the all round talent of James Brackin. Tom Foreman returned from a shoulder reconstruction, and Glen Holden and Nick Creighton returned to Normanhurst after some time out of the game. Finally Murray Watts came across to the mighty NWCC club from Berowra, to round out a very strong line-up. For the first time ever, NWCC had a Colts side of mainly 18 and 19 year-olds and were in serious contention for being in the mix come finals time. Regardless, cricket is not a game played on paper and the boys would have to put in solid performances every week in order to secure the club’s maiden Colts premiership. Fast forward to the 28th March 2010, and Matt Nelson hits a four through mid wicket to defeat Berowra outright and acquire that illusive Colts premiership, topping off an amazing season where NWCC only lost one fixture all season. The win was set up in the first session when Tom Cole took 3 wickets in the 5th over, seeing Berowra dismissed for 76. Nelson and Cole strapped on the pads and laid a solid opening partnership of 71 before Cole was run out for 49. Nelson went on to make 50 and first innings victory was obtained with the loss of only three wickets, before good bowling from Berowra and a bit of bad luck saw the Normo boys all out for 175 (a lead of 99). Berowra came out in the second innings and gave it everything, setting a sporting target of 84 runs or 36 overs, declaring at tea on day 2. It was then the partnership of Nelson and Holden of 58 that shut Berowra out of the game and the rest is history. It was the all-round performance of the team the entire season that was most impressive, with all players contributing rather than relying on the same one or two players each week. Six players passed 195 runs – Nelson (373), Cole (300), Holden (260), Waldegrave (254), Pendleton (212) and Watts (197) – however the lower order also proved their ability with the bat when given the chance. Likewise, the wickets were shared with five bowlers taking 15 or more wickets – Cole (31), Wood (20), Watts (18), Creighton (17) and Maxworthy (16). Other highlights for the season included: • Lachy Ford (121*) and Tom Cole’s (90) partnership of 141 off just 13.8 overs • Cal Waldegrave (97*) and Murray Watts’ (55*) unbeaten partnership of 148 on a very green Turramurra wicket • Brett Turpin’s catch against Berowra in Round 9 – words can’t describe it • Daniel Wood’s spell of 4/5 off 7 overs to have Hornsby 6/20 overnight (week 2 was washed out, saving Hornsby from certain defeat). At one stage, Woody was 4/0 off 5 overs – possibly the best spell of bowling ever seen in Colts. • Nick Creighton’s 5/19 (7) to defeat WPH Blue by 30 runs defending a modest total of 156 • Cam Griffin’s catch against Berowra in Round 14. Berowra’s opening bat got a fine top edge off the extreme pace of Tom Cole, Cam’s hand went up and the ball found it. Would have been the catch of the season had Turps not taken one of the greatest of all time.

• Matt Nelson’s finals series – after a fairly quiet season by his standards, Nels made 102 in the semi against Hornsby, which he followed up with 50 and 32* in the final. It really was incredible batting at the top of the order, and had Nels not fired it could have been a very different result. Apart from the 12 regulars, there were many more players who contributed to winning the premiership over the season. These included Lachy Ford, Braden Cheng, Ben Phillips, Tom Green, Ed Sowden, Rajiv Chandrasena, Lindsay Haertsch, Brett Turpin, Alex Martyn, Joel Carter and Greg Ford. These players did not just make up the numbers but played pivotal roles when given the opportunity, and I would like to thank them for helping me out throughout the season. Many thanks to Bruce Wood for his efforts in getting this team together and his support throughout the season. Bruce did an enormous amount of work at the start of the season to build this team, and without his efforts we would not have had a chance of competing for the premiership. Thanks to Mike Griffin, who helped me out greatly throughout the season and also did a great job supporting the boys. His support during (and after) the grand final particularly did not go unnoticed, as a lot of the boys mentioned to me after the game. I would also like to thank John Corish for his support throughout the season. Finally I would like to thank the boys for the greatest season of cricket I have been involved in. Not only did we secure a premiership after five seasons in the competition, but it was incredibly enjoyable every week and a very easy bunch of guys to captain.
