Kingborough had led for the early part of the season but following from the Christmas break, the Roos have edged ahead narrowly. The club championship reflects the overall position of the clubs within the CTPL, taking into account all CTPL grades, male and female. There is a tight tussle in the middle of the ladder also with North Hobart continuing to build and move into third position ahead of Lindisfarne and University. There are still plenty of points up for grabs with two-day featuring heavily for the remainder of the season. Lord Taverners Spirit of Cricket Award The Spirit of Cricket ladder is as tight as ever with the averages of 2nd place through to 5th place separated by only 0.07 points. Competition new comers, Greater Northern, are in the box seat with Kingborough and University hot on their tails. Clubs are rated after each game on three aspects with the average rating across all games played by the club in all grades determining the final victor. To have 9 clubs with an average above 6 reflects that the competition is being played in the right spirit. Round 1 featured only three matches, Lindisfarne taking down North Hobart in a high scoring game in which Matthew Dance smashed 139 to lead his side to victory. Jed Steele also enjoyed some time at the crease with 73*. Jake R Doran went close to a century in the opening match for the losing side with 98, while teammate Robb Macmillan knocked out a hard fought 71. At Kangaroo Bay Oval Clarence blew away Glenorchy with bat and ball, Harrison Allanby (72) high scoring with the bat while Daniel Meredith (3/18), Daniel Salpietro (3/12) and (2/18) held Glenorchy to 10/93. Kingborough upset the new side in their first match of the competition, knocking over the Raiders for 208, Jake Williams top scoring with the bat (57). The Knights chased down their target comfortably, Nathan Freitag (61) and Riley Backhouse (66) setting up the side for a win with a strong opening partnership.

In Round 2, a collapse saw New Town limp to 10/111, Greater Northern storming home for their first win of the season thanks to some solid batting by Anish Paraam (33) and Oliver Wood (34), and James S Beattie’s fantastic figures of 4/18 with the ball. Lindisfarne made short work of Glenorchy at home, hitting a quick 79 while Charles Wakim belted 121 off 109 deliveries to push the home side to an imposing total of 5/289. Mac Wright starred with the ball as well with figures of 3/26 as Glenorchy fell well short of the required total. Clarence were sent in to bat by University and saw contributions from several players including Liam Devlin (46), Daniel Salpietro (45) and Ned Absolom (58 not out) to hit an impressive total of 275. In response, University couldn't get going, falling victim to some classy by Harrison Allanby (5/47) to be all out for 162. In the most exciting match of the round, South Hobart / Sandy Bay saw some massive scores hit in their innings, top scoring with a fantastic 167 off 149 deliveries with (59) and Sean Willis (55) also getting involved. Kingborough came out swinging in response, Beau J Webster (108) and (114) both hitting centuries to get their side within striking distance of the Sharks. However the Knights lost their last few cheaply, falling 2 runs short of the required total for victory.

University sent the Knights in to bat in Round 3, holding them to 66 after smashing 314 in the week prior. The classy bowling of Jack Freeman (3/22) and Noah van de Werken’s unbeaten 45* ensured that Uni claimed their first win of the season. In a replay of last seasons 2 day Grand Final, Clarence maintained their blistering start to the season, Ben Rohrer with 117 to get the Roos to 269. After a promising start, North Hobart lost 7/35 and from there never looked like winning the match, Alex Treanor the pick of the Clarence bowlers with 3/25. The Raiders could only manage 136 at Shark Park, with late inclusion Robert West taking 4/25. With Ben Dunk (67*) in form this total was never going to be competitive, the home side reaching the required runs just under 30 overs and with 8 wickets in hand. New Town were looking to bounce back after a rough start to the season and bowled out the potent Lindisfarne batting lineup in the 49th over for 241. However, the Bucks had a day to forget with the bat, bowled out for 27 with no batsmen reaching double figures. starred with bat and ball,64 from 51 with the bat and 4/9 with the ball off 7 overs.

The Sharks cruised to a 7- win over Clarence to kick off Round 4, clinical performances with the ball by Hamish Kingston (3/11), William Thompson (2/12) and Kyle Wisniewski (2/35) knocking over the Roos for 97. SHSB Sean Willis then guided his team to victory with the bat with 26 overs to spare. Uni made their first trip up North to face the Raiders, restricting the home side to 169 from their 50 overs with Anish Paraam (89) top scoring. Oliver Wood (4/22) looked like causing a Clarence middle order collapse until former Hurricanes coach strode to the crease and was able to find the boundary, getting his side the victory with 1 wicket and 9 balls to spare.

The Bucks struggled again against an impressive Kingborough side, Brady Jones smashing 163 from 105 balls to carry his side to 5/341 off their 50 overs. In response, Tawanda Mupariwa (59) was the only Bucks batsman to get going, Kingborough running away with a 169 run win. North Hobart took away the win once again against Glenorchy at KGV, the home side only managing 168 from their 50 overs with Nathan Matthews (52*) and Farzan Raja (48) the top scorers. The Demons chased down the target within the 47th over thanks to some key knocks by Jack White (54), Robb Macmillan (44) and (38).

In Round 5 the Sharks claimed maximum points, defeating University by 8 wickets. took career best figures of 6/9 from his 10 overs to end the Uni innings for only 62 runs. T20 champions North Hobart continued their hot streak taking down the Knights by 97 runs. starred for the Demons once again producing a classy century as he guided his side to 9/263. Mitch Backhouse and Dylan Hay looked strong in response, however some wonderful bowling by Robb Macmillan proved the difference, the Knights all out for 166 in the 42nd over. Clarence leapfrogged the Lightning into second place with a convincing 100 run win, while at New Town Oval Glenorchy took the spoils and maximum points with a 9 wicket win over the Bucks. Ahsan Mirza starred with the ball with CTPL best figured of 5/18, while (47*) and Nuwan Kavinda (50*) made short work of the required runs.

The Raiders were after an upset in Round 6 as Brodie Hayes (69) and Alistair Taylor (79) got the side to a respectable 7/224 against Lindisfarne at home. However, the fairytale was not be, Charles Wakim (105) and Keegan Oates (107) smashing their way to victory losing just the 1 wicket. Some incredible bowling at KGV saw the Knights fall to Glenorchy, David Moody taking 5/13 off his 10 with 4 maidens, and Ahsan Mirza with 1/5 off 10 with an incredible 8 maidens. At Queenborough Oval, Hugh Williams (57) and Joe Randall (39) spent some time at the crease, however couldn’t hold of the SHSB batting attack, the Sharks running away winners with 5 wickets to spare.

And in Round 7 the Sharks produced a mirror image of their clash the week prior against the Bucks, knocking off the Magpies by 8 wickets and claiming a bonus point. Trent Keep and Harry Nichols starred for the victors hitting 67* and 61* respectively. Lindisfarne claimed a crucial win over University, Mac Wright blasting 103 of 63 deliveries to secure a double bonus point 8 wicket victory, securing a finals spot in the process. The Bucks looked nervous early against the Roos, one stage sitting at 6-92 before club stalwart Nathan Wegman stood firm with 54 to salvage a total of 194 for the home side. The Roos needed a double bonus point win to make the final, and while Harry Allanby (54) and Michael Jones (48) tried to salvage their finals hopes the Roos couldn’t claim the points they needed in their win. At the TCA Ground it was the Sean Harris show, blasting the club’s first One-Day century and the highest score in all formats to secure a 6 wicket win for the Raiders. His 173 off 146 deliveries allowed his side to reach North Hobart’s total in just the 42nd over. Corey Murfet was the stand out for the Demons with 134 off 117 balls in their loss. CTPL Ladders
