The Executive join me in presenting the 84th Annual Report and Financial Notes for your consideration, which has been produced to celebrate a progressive and successful 2009/10 season. We as a body have witnessed further consolidation, growth and development of the wonderful sport of cricket in our local community sports area. With a record number of teams in our senior competition and the development of the various forms of junior cricket, the Association continues to prosper, in an evolving cricket world.

Of course, with development and progress comes significant change which within itself, produces additional pressures and demands on our large number of volunteers at all levels. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of the thousands of volunteers across all reaches of the Association, whether it is Club or Association level. Without their individual and collective efforts the Association would not be the strength it is today, in our complex modern and unrelenting world. Additionally, I extend this gratitude to your respective families as the impact on valuable family time is insurmountable and not without cost. 5th December 2010 is International Volunteers Day – a day the Association will be encouraging our affiliates to celebrate not just for the year, but also in the years ahead. Moving on, there have been so many highlights throughout the season, including:  Asquith Rugby League (ARL) winning a 5th consecutive A-Grade Premiership, the second longest winning streak in our proud history.  John MacQuillan (Umpire) and Tom Richmond OAM (Patron) nominations to Cricket Australia by the Association in recognition of 50 years service to the game of cricket.  The re-introduction of the senior “Sunday Competition”.  The record number of 82 teams playing in our various Senior Competitions.  The introduction of the U/8 pre-competition has been a successful initiative and no doubt will become more popular in the years ahead.  “Blowfly Cricket” a hybrid format of the game, specifically modelled to suit the diverse requirements of children with special needs.  The improved professionalism and success of our Junior Representative teams, with the ratio of ‘wins : losses’ being the highest ever in our history.  The affiliation of our newest club, “Wahroonga Bladerunners CC”, a single-team club who performed above expectations to make the semi-finals of the A-Reserve Grade competition.  The incorporation of HKHDCUA, our local Umpires branch.  Sponsorship – Kookaburra Sports and Triforce Sports are the main sponsors of the Association. Brian Binfield of Fullpoint Graphics is also to be applauded for his support and guidance with our various publications – a quality service.  Northern District CC (NDCC) – it is extremely pleasing to be part of a fresher, more pro-active working relationship with our local Grade club.  CNSW and the ongoing support and assistance offered to our Member Clubs.  The development of the Executive Officer role.  Our website is the hub and future direction of the Association and is gaining momentum with its popularity amongst our members. Walter’s Weekly Wrap has been an extremely popular addition  Our inaugural Presidents Forum was held at the Austen Hughes Clubroom with all Member Clubs represented. Ross Turner kindly acted as the Facilitator of the forum and Ben Gussey did well with the organising of the function.  The Association was a surprised Finalist in the inaugural Hornsby Shire Council Community Organisation of the Year Award.  The ongoing support of our three Councils is appreciated. Ongoing ground and / or amenities improvements at Edward Bennett Oval (Hornsby Shire Council), Auluba Oval (Ku-ring-gai Council), and Les Shore Park (The Hills Shire Council) are testament to our working relationship. In closing, the Association continues to be soundly managed by the Executive Members, and their collective efforts truly deserve any recognition they may receive. To all of our Members, volunteers, club officials and players of all ages I wish you a very enjoyable winter season in the sport you choose to play. To all our members, whether juniors or seniors, remember to always play within the rules and spirit of the game and be respectful of your coaches, team mates, opposition and all match officials. Please come back and play cricket with the club of your choice in the 2010/11 season, and why not bring along a friend or two to join in the fun and rigours of our true national sport.

This year HK&HDCA worked in partnership with St Ives Football Club to introduce a modified form of the game for children with special needs. A set of rules has been developed which we hope will be the model for similar programs around the state.

Imagine a cross between regular cricket and French cricket where: *The ball is hit from a T or from another player who is able to bowl. * are be made from two normal wickets at right angles to each other to create a greater target for fielders. *All players are participating at all times as either a: Batsman; Fielder, or; -A “Blower” who either bowls or blows a whistle for a T hit. *After a batsman has completed up to two runs (facing only 1 ball at a time), all players move to a new a position in the field (like a clock face).

Cricket NSW Report

The 2009/10 season was an exciting and challenging one for Cricket NSW. It started with the unbelievable high of winning the inaugural Airtel Champions League T20 Competition in India in October, before returning home to complete a crowded domestic program.

As the season unfolded, the RTA SpeedBlitz Blues experienced both highs and lows. With a very young squad, NSW did well to finish the Weet-Bix Sheffield Shield Season in third position, however, they were disappointed to have failed to qualify for the chance to defend their Airtel Champions League Trophy after missing out on the Final of the KFC Big Bash. A third placed finish in the Ford Ranger Cup was the result of a strong end to the season and everyone involved with the squad will be looking for more consistency this coming year.

At the Community Cricket level, Sydney North continued to see growth in player numbers across all four Junior Associations. In particular, the 39% growth in in2CRICKET participants across the Region was a significant result. Our goal is to eventually have an in2CRICKET Centre linked with every Junior Club in the region to facilitate the very important link between newly recruited players and their families to the Junior Club environment. The long term effect of having a quality “pre-cricket” program for your Club is not to be underestimated – the future strength of our Clubs is reliant upon making that transition as seamless and inviting as we possibly can – for both players and their families. In2CRICKET can assist you achieving that goal.

The Michael Clarke Twenty20 Cup has continued to grow in popularity – this year seeing 14 teams entered from the HK&H DCA across all three age groups – U12, 14 and 16. A wonderful result for the Association and a testament to the fact that our junior players are looking forward to participating in new and varied formats of our game. The 2010/11 MCT20 season promises to be even more successful, with the competition being split into four distinct Zones at the preliminary round stages, coming together for a Sydney wide semi final series followed by finals once again held at the SCG.

An additional age group will also be trialled in the Sydney North Region, with an Under 18 Division to be held during November under special conditions – more on that very soon.

Cricket NSW staff are about to embark on our annual school promotional visit program, and it is expected that over 7,000 primary school children in the HK&H catchment will be enlightened about the opportunities to get involved with a local cricket club. We are currently visiting a number of schools in the local area, with our “Extended Skills Program” – all part of our continuing effort to educate kids about the joys of playing cricket.

Congratulations to the HK&HDCA Executive for once again running a challenging and enjoyable competition in 2009/10, and I look forward to working closely with you in the new season

Steve Mulally Sydney North Cricket Manager

The HK&HDCA has been proud to receive continued sponsorship from Kookaburra throughout the 2009/10 season. In fact, this agreement was been updated in 2009/10 and renewed for a further 4 seasons: 2009/2010, 2010/2011, 2011/2012 and 2012/2013. The HK&HDCA sincerely thanks Cameron Eve, a former player of our Association, for all of his support and assistance with this sponsorship. Cameron currently plays 1st Grade for Mosman CC in the SCA Competition.

It could be argued that Kookaburra would be within its rights to patent the sound of leather on willow such is the pivotal role the brand has played in the evolution of cricket.

With traditions as old as the sport itself, the Kookaburra cricket ball is presently used exclusively in all one day international cricket and 85% of Test cricket – a fine testament of trust in a brand that has matched step for step the sport’s advancement over the last century.

As cricket has moved forward so has Kookaburra’s range of products ensuring that the quality of the equipment being used consistently matched the improving standards being set on the pitch. This reputation for quality and innovation lies at the heart of the Kookaburra brand.

Kookaburra was established in 1890, the brainchild of saddle and harness maker Alfred Grace Thompson. After emigrating to Australia in search of a warmer climate, Thompson found that his trade was being eaten away by the advent of the motor industry and consequently decided to use his experience in leather to expand into the provision of sporting goods. Ably assisted by his sons Bill and Alf, Thompson’s traditional production methods were soon in demand, particularly within the burgeoning cricket ball market.

From these beginnings, the Kookaburra brand has been propelled forward by four generations of the Thompson family, all the while remaining true to the need for product development to remain at the core of the business.

Triforce Sports is a supplier and reseller of premium sporting goods in particular cricket gear and equipment. We provide customers with highly competitive wholesale prices across its cricketing and sporting goods products.

Triforce Sports has a large selection of products across key cricketing brands. We have an extensive range of bats & protective equipment available at our shop and warehouse in Bella Vista (Sydney), or you can browse our products and pricing in our website. We are excited to offer our products at competitive prices as well as specialising in large/bulk orders and offer discounts to clubs looking to purchase cricketing equipment in bulk.

Triforce Sports is part of the Triforce group of companies, established in 1993. Triforce Australia is one of Australia's largest suppliers of IT technology and systems to local and multinational small, medium and corporate business.

Triforce Australia is a sponsor of Cricket NSW and major sponsor of the Michael Clarke Twenty20 Cup which is a twenty over knockout competition for club and school teams. The Michael Clarke Twenty20 Cup Series aims to encourage enjoyment, maximum participation and spectator appeal whilst allowing players to develop their cricket skills, knowledge and instinct based on the preface that Twenty20 Cricket is fast, different and can be used as an effective alternative to training. Along with other forms of Cricket, Twenty20 will assist the growth of our game so Cricket is the ‘sport of choice' for all Australians.

Triforce Australia is also the major sponsor of the Community Cricket School Holiday Camp Program. Community Cricket’s charter covers schools, clubs and special interest and community groups, such as indigenous and disabled groups. The Program engages junior participants up to 16 years of age with a strong youth focus.

This season the Afternoon Committee (Senior Competition) re-launched the Sunday one-day competition.

The competition was brought back in an effort to bring back players that may have retired or were unable to play on Saturday, as well as recruit new players. The competition was a great success and played in the right spirit by all. Teams entered in the inaugural season were Berowra (two teams – White and Maroon), Glenhaven, Kissing Point and Asquith Rugby League (two teams – White and Black).

We must thank Steve Wilson and all the Afternoon Committee members who worked tirelessly throughout the competition to ensure it was a success.

Special mention must also be made of David Steptoe (Berowra Maroon) who led the run scoring with 255 runs at 63.75, while Martin Watts (Glenhaven) led the batting averages (min. 150 runs) with 207 runs at 103.50. While, Paul Frost (Asquith Rugby League White) led the wickets column with 17 wickets at 10.35 and Chris Roden-Smith (Kissing Point) led the averages (min. 15 wickets) with 15 wickets at 10.13

The Afternoon Committee is now investigating the possibility of further Sunday competitions. This is seen as the most viable way to grow as the popularity of Saturday cricket has seen ground usage reach capacity for the time being.

I would like to thank the volunteers for all the effort they have put into the season This includes Coaches, Mangers, age conveners and selectors. It would be hard to quantify the amount of time and effort these people contribute. In addition I would like to thank Bruce Wood for all his support as umpires Secretary throughout the Year- Unfortunately Bruce has decided to step down as Umpires Secretary, However all is not lost he will continue in his umpiring role

The 2009/ 10 Season has been a reasonably successful albeit challenging one the association. In the junior shield completion teams across the board recorder a 66% winning ratio- We saw the Under 15 IDCA team crowned champions and the Gee shield side make the semi finals. We won the country carnivals in the 13s and 15s. Whilst these are pleasing results if we are to set the benchmark as an association we must strive to improve, in many cases teams either missed a place in the finals by a close loss or by quotient –with Minor improvements and a more attacking approach in the right situation these near misses can be turned into bulls eyes.

I have the pleasure to highlight that in many cases Umpires reports/ comments indicated that whilst our boys played hard cricket they played to the spirit of the game. I ask that all parents support this and help set an example.

The Emerging Blues program is a vital component of the CricketNSW talent identification process and an important link in the CricketNSW pathway.

The Emerging Blues covers the age groups from Under 13 to Under 16. Players in each age group undertake a series of technical, mental and physical development sessions throughout the pre-season. The Emerging Blues program then concludes with matches in the early part of season. The Emerging Blues program acts a feeder to the NSW U/17 program.

The following HK&HDCA players have gained selection in their respective age groups for the 2010/11 season: Under 13 – Matthew Chamberlain

At the start of the season the ND’s committee redefined the basic goals of the Club:

To provide good facilities, good coaching, a fair selection policy and to strengthen relationships with local cricket associations. The relationship with HK&HDCA has been a long one and a strong one. It has been our aim this year to work more closely with HK&HDCA with one common goal in mind, and that is to provide a clear pathway for the development of local talented cricketers. We all want to see every local cricketer play to the best of their ability and reach their absolute potential.

To this end:  We appointed an HK representative on the Green Shield selection panel (James Whealing).  We provided selectors for the HK&HDCA rep trials (Clayton Waters, Brett Penprase and Luke Quinlivan).  We provided coaches to HK&HDCA Representative teams (Clayton Waters, Chris Thorburn and Jon Whealing).  Some ND’s committee members attended the Ross Turner Cup and met a number of talented players through Tom Richmond’s introduction.

We have some exciting programs coming up throughout the off-season that will see HK&HDCA and NDCC working side by side.

It is a great feeling to celebrate the success together of our local juniors as they make their way through rep sides and then the grade ranks.

Look forward to next year and many more “Big Brekkies” with Mark Rushton!

Mike Langford (Drifter) President NDCC

Some of the former/current HK&HDCA players that played for NDCC during the season included; David Ball (Captain 1st Grade), Jonathon Whealing, Clayton Waters, Rob Watts, Ben Langford, David Lowery, Chris Peebles, Rod Hokin, James Kerr, Stuart Newman, Matthew Phillips, Lachlan Ford, Daniel Friedrich, Nathan Miller, Luke Quinlivan, Nick Berman, Brendan Ham Sam Every, Neil Kimberley, Ronan Barratt, James Alcorn, Alexander Perry, Clinton Witt, James Madden.

The annual Ross Turner Cup was again held at Parklands Oval and umpired by Bruce Wood and Simon Moore.

The Ross Turner Cup is considered by many to be the local Representative showcase for young talent, as it takes the best from the ‘East’ clubs and ‘West clubs’ in the Under 15 age-group.

There are a number of people who must be thanked for their ongoing contribution and support of this event. Northern District Cricket Club sponsors this event, in covering the umpire fees. Tom Richmond helps coordinate and organise the Ross Turner Cup. The Under 15 age group coordinators, managers and coaches must be thanked. Finally, Ross Turner himself was in attendance in support of this great event.

Ross has been a great supporter of cricket in this area over a number of years and currently extends this in his role as International Development Program Manager of Cricket Australia. In this role, he helps to oversee the development and implementation of cricket structures and coaching in to developing cricket nations.

This year saw the East side defeat the West side by 34 runs.

The East side started convincingly with openers Daniel Anderson and Connor Jackson top scoring with 35* and 37 respectively. Runs were at a premium throughout the match, with all bowlers proving to be economical. After the opening pair, a number of starts were made that ultimately saw the East side reach 163 after 50 overs.

The West side also started promisingly, with both openers retiring. However, the bowling remained economical and saw the West side finish 34 runs short off their 50 overs.

West won by 5 wickets on 1st Innings.

The Glenn Hourigan Cup, named after our esteemed Life Member, is the showpiece for our younger Representative players. Run in the same format as the Ross Turner Cup, it features the best from ‘West’ and the ‘East’ clubs in the Under 12 age group.

Much like the Ross Turner Cup clash, the bowlers were again economical with batsmen struggling to pick up the pace.

The East side managed to put together a total of 140 off their allocated 50 overs. Dylan Hood stood tall with a very well made unbeaten 47. He was well supported by Matthew Chamberlain, 25, and Taylor Davies, 27. Harry Broughton and Peter Lautre took 2 wickets each with the ball. Sid Dissanayake was also impressive with only 3 runs off his 4 overs.

In reply, the West side got off to a slow start losing both openers for single figures. However, Alex Dolly, Travis Loxton and Connor Hammond all put together good scores to see the West side pass 140 with 2 overs to spare. No bowler took more than 1 wicket for the East side, however, all were very economical.

Again, we thank all those involved in making this event a great success, including the Under 12 coordinators, managers and coaches. We must also thank Tim Creamer and Ian Paterson for their fantastic efforts in umpiring this clash.

This year HK&HDCA received an invitation from Andrew Dadswell, the Martin Shield 2nd XI Representative co- ordinator for Sydney Morning Cricket Association. Andrew, on behalf of S.M.C.A., kindly invited HK&HDCA to play in one of a series of invitational matches that the Sydney Morning Cricket Association would be hosting. The match was played as a 50-over one-dayer hosted at Jubilee Oval.

The match was a great success and involved a number of younger players from our Association, as well high- performing players ranging from A-Reserves to B-Reserves. Sanjaya Ranasinghe (Mount Colah, B-Reserves) and Denver Rego (ARL, A-Reserves) were the star performers with the ball. The S.M.C.A.’s innings was held together by Paul Witherley, who once represented England at Under 19 schoolboy level and is currently a coach at Knox Grammar School.

Whilst not quite boasting Paul’s international pedigree (yet), Kissing Point B Grade star, Chris Roden-Smith, held together the HK&HDCA innings which threatened to disintegrate. The HK&HDCA boys eventually managed to pass the score 7-down despite an ‘Audi’ (four) of ducks. Liam Burrell and Lachlan Ford both provided handy contributions.

We would like to thank S.M.C.A. for the generous invitation, the use of Jubilee Oval (a turf wicket) and Chris Kearney and Mark Rushton for giving up their time to umpire the fixture. Mark also kindly donated his umpire’s cheque to our Junior Development fund.

It should be noted HK&HDCA donated the “Friendship Cup” for this fixture and hope to continue this fixture in the future.

Office Bearers - The Hornsby, Ku-ring-gai & Hills District Cricket Umpires’ Association (HKHDCUA) held it’s AGM on 13 July 2009 and appointed Geoff Hasler as President; Alex Terry as Vice-President; Bruce Wood as Secretary; Tim Davidson as Treasurer; Simon Moore as Assistant Secretary and Training Officer; Barry McDonald, John McQuillan & Alex Terry on the Training & Examination Committee; Barry McDonald & Mark Rushton as Patrons; and John McQuillan & Simon Moore as Delegates to HK&HDCA.

Incorporation of HKHDCUA - Our Umpires’ Association approved a new Constitution at its meeting on 20 October 2009 and became an incorporated body through NSW Fair Trading on 29 October 2009. The membership categories include Junior Membership (U/18); Associate Membership (passed HK&HDCA Captain’s Ticket Course); Ordinary Membership (passed HKHDCUA Umpire’s Badge Course); Full Membership (passed NSWCUSA Umpires’ Examination); and Life Membership (only awarded in exceptional circumstances against a specific criteria). There is a small annual fee associated with membership. A total of 29 umpires signed up for membership of HKHDCUA in 2009-10. A highlight this season was the induction of Barry McDonald as the inaugural HKHDCUA Life Member.

Match appointments - Bruce Wood again appointed umpires to the A Grade, U/19 Colts, A Reserve Grade and club finals matches, as well as all representative fixtures covering NSWDCA, IDCA and President’s Cup competitions on Sundays. In total, Bruce made 271 umpiring appointments in 2009-10, comprising 198 club matches and 73 rep. matches.

Our senior panel of regular umpires comprised Simon Moore, Geoff Hasler, Bruce Wood, Barry McDonald, Alex Terry, Steve Wilson, Ian Paterson, John McQuillan, Tim Creamer, Tim Davidson & Mark Rushton. I thank them for their commitment and consistently high level performances, as reflected in the captains’ ratings on MyCricket. New umpires Manny Narang and Damien Lewis also contributed well this season, as did John Acheson.

In line with child protection legislation and the Working with Children check procedures, full background checks were conducted on 25 regular or part-time umpires through the NSW Department of Sport & Recreation.

New HKHDCUA service medals were introduced this season to acknowledge umpires reaching milestones of 100 or 200 matches since 1999-2000 (when umpires’ individual appointments per season began to be recorded in the HK&HDCA Annual Reports). For the record, HKHDCUA service medals were awarded to Geoff Hasler (200 matches), John McQuillan (186), Steve Wilson (173), Alex Terry (172), Simon Moore (147), Richard Eslick (126), Bruce Wood (124) and Barry McDonald (106). Simon Moore and Bruce Wood were appointed to umpire the A Grade Final between ARL and WPHC at Berowra Oval. They also umpired the U/16 Junior Final at Kenthurst Oval between WPHC White and Mount Colah.

Contributions of the HKHDCUA umpires in the past season, and their individual commitments are recorded below: (Min. 2 Matches) Simon Moore (32), Bruce Wood (26), Alex Terry (26), Barry McDonald (23), Ian Paterson (22), Geoff Hasler (21), John McQuillan (19), Tim Creamer (17), Steve Wilson (16), Tim Davidson (10), Manny Narang (9), Damien Lewis (8), John Acheson (6), David Cooper (6), Nathan Wood (6), Alf James OAM (6), Mark Rushton (6), Scott Reid (4), Brad Cole (3), Scott Burrows (2), Richard Eslick (2) and Daniel Younan (2).

Spirit of Cricket Awards - Spirit of Cricket points were awarded by the umpires, based on criteria which included respect for the opposition; respect for laws of the game; and respect for match officials (umpires, etc.). The HK&HDCA club team with the highest average Spirit of Cricket points in 2009-10 was the Hornsby U/19 Colts side captained by Chris Easy, who received the Dave Gawler Shield for Sportsmanship on behalf of his team. The perpetual trophy for the Representative Spirit of Cricket Award, which was donated by Bruce Wood in 2008-09, was won by the U/11 Creak Shield team led by captain Peter Lautre and coach Marisa Levitt.

Umpiring Training Courses - HKHDCUA held a 3-night local umpire's badge course in November 2009 at the Normanhurst-Warrawee Clubhouse to enable local cricket players and officials to become qualified umpires and be formally appointed to HK&HDCA club or rep. matches. Ten people attended the course; eight sat the exam, and six achieved the required 80% pass mark to earn a HKHDCUA local umpire’s badge. The successful candidates were Ian Lewis, Daniel Anderson, Justin Epthorp, Denise Anderson, Gary Barton & Manny Narang. HKHDCUA also conducted two senior Captain's Ticket Courses between September and November 2009 at the Montview clubhouse, Hornsby Heights. The courses covered the main MCC Laws of Cricket, as well as the important local Senior Competition Rules. 80 people attended the two Captain's Ticket Courses in 2009-10, with 77 being successful. Thanks to Simon Moore and his training team for co-ordinating and running these courses, including conducting the lectures and setting & marking the exams.

A marked increase in publicity for H.K. & H.D.C.A. was seen in season 2009/10, in no small part due to Tom Richmond and Nathan Tilbury’s continous efforts and support.

Some of the publicity provided were as follows;

At the commencement of the season the H.K. & H.D.C.A. undertook a local newspaper promotion with advertisements in the North Shore Times, Hornsby Advocate and Hills News.

Every A Grade match this season was covered by Hornsby Advocate, in no small part due to Tom Richmond’s efforts in covering each game. The link to each match can be found on hkhdca.com.au or through the Horsnby Advocate website. Photos are also available with each article. This recognition of our premier competition is a great boost for our Association. We must thank Jessica Clement of Hornsby Advocate for her ongoing support.

Triple H radio station (Hornsby & Ku-ring-gai local community radio) provided excellent coverage of H.K. & H.D.C.A., every Thursday morning with excellent support Mal Starr. At the end of the season we also had good coverage on their Monday afternoon Drive program with the help of Doug Foster.

The Walter Wilson Report covered the Junior, Senior & Representative competitions and helped boost website traffic.

Finally, our Country Carnival success was covered by NBN TV, Northern Daily Leader and Armidale Express. Links to all of these articles can be found on the website.

We must give thanks to the three councils, Hornsby Shire Council, Ku-ring-gai Council and the Hills Shire Council for their ongoing support in providing grounds.

The season mostly ran smoothly with grounds, with a few issues at the back end of the season and one unfortunate incident whereby Parklands was decimated after play continued in inclement weather.

We must, in particular, thank Hornsby Shire Council whom restored Parklands to its former glory and by all reports it played magnificently at the back end of the season. Hornsby Shire Council were also instrumental in upgrades to Edward Bennett Oval.

Another ground that has been restored and improved is Auluba Park, thanks to Ku-ring-gai Council. Although it is has been out for the season, the uplift has left the ground looking fantastic.

The Executive has proposed a Grounds Upgrade Program which will see the Association at its most proactive in ensuring our facilities are of high class.

To commence proceedings will be the raising of Normanhust Oval and Greenway 2 (pictured in photos section), both of which flooded with moderate rain. Bannockburn Oval and Samuel King Oval are both earmarked for replacement of their respective synthetic surfaces.

George Christie 2, Cliff Oval No. 2, Mimosa Oval and Headen Park are all earmarked for replacement of synthetic surface and, in the case of Mimosa Oval, widening of the pitch.

While the Association is being proactive in ensuring that teams are provided adequate facilities it is vital that any issues are sent in to the Executive Officer so that the issues can be addressed. Unfortunately due to the large size of our Association it is impossible to continuously monitor all grounds without ongoing feedback from captains, players, clubs and officials.

This season saw the Junior, Representative, HKHDCUA (Umpires’ Association) & Seniors combine in to a single website. All statistics and scorecards were provided on this website through the myCricket function.

The combination of all websites saw a great increase in web traffic and helped introduce a new sponsor to our Association, Triforce Sports.

We must give thanks to Brian Gibson for the instrumental role he had in co-ordinating and combining our four websites to provide a far simpler website.

Our Walter Wilson Weekly Wrap and Triforce Photo of the Month segments proved very popular with great feedback from players and committee members. We plan to continue running both segments next season and we must thank Walter for his tremendous efforts in co-ordinating these segments. Triforce Sports must also be thanked for providing $100 gift vouchers for the Photo of the Month segment. To view the fantastic winners, please turn to the photo section at the back of this Annual Report.

A quick rundown of our web traffic is also provided;

This season was a mild improvement in terms of players having to front the Disciplinary & Disputes Committee. However, we will continue to pursue a zero appearance tally.

The D&D Committee was convened over four separate matters and handed down three match, four match and four match suspensions. Charges ranged from playing an unregistered player, dissent and verbal abuse of the umpire and verbal abuse of an umpire.

We again implore players to respect all umpires, regardless of whether they are official umpires or player umpires. Any abuse or dissent will have zero tolerance within our Association.

Finally, I would like to thank the Club Presidents who acted as the Disputes & Disciplinary committee for the 2009/10 season and Bob Browne who continues to generously give his time in acting as Chairman. Specifically, I would also like to thank Colin Griffin, Brian Gibson, Cameron Riddett, Geoff Findlay and Bob Dewstow for standing on the committee.

As many will probably be aware, Andrew Stanton lost his battle with Leukaemia following his diagnosis late in 2008. Stanno, prior to his diagnosis, had a colourful career with the Berowra Cricket Club having been involved in many of the senior grade competitions. He had been a member of recent A grade sides and the B grade premiership side of 2005, in which he was undoubtedly man of the match in the Grand Final. Andrew has also been involved in the coaching of several BCC junior teams over the years. Remembered by many as a passionate cricketer to say the least, Stanno often starred with both ball and bat. His leg spin earned him several club bowling awards including a rare double hat-trick trophy and his explosive batting more than once turned an innings around.

In memory of his battle with this vicious disease more information can be found on Leukaemia at http://www.leukaemia.org.au Blood donations are vital support for people who are undergoing treatment for Leukaemia. More information about becoming a blood donor can be found at the following link: http://www.donateblood.com.au We’ll miss you mate.

We record with regret the death of Mr. Robert William (Bob) Richmond on 22 March 2010 at the grand age of 100 years and nine months.

Mr. Richmond has a significant place in the history of this Association both as our first centurion and as the progenitor of a large sporting family which is also prominent in education. In his youth he played many sports including a number of cricket matches in the 1930s for Brooklyn where his wife’s family (the Johnsons, the Everinghams and the Seymours) had lived for several generations. He knew players such as Bill Alley and Claude McCullough who starred for Brooklyn when it won the A Grade premiership in 1937/38. Only four players in the Association have received Cricket Australia’s 50-year medal for service to the sport and Mr. Richmond was father of one of these (our Patron, Tom Richmond, O.A.M.) and father-in-law of another (John McQuillan of Berowra C.C. and the Umpires’ Association).

His other son, Peter was prominent in Rugby Union as a coach and a referee whilst his daughter, Judy McQuillan, played cricket at a high level for Mirabooka C.C. and first-grade hockey for Berowra. Judy’s son, Phillip, played A Grade with Berowra whilst her daughters, Kerrie and Kim, also played top-level hockey. Kim was also the first female umpire in this Association. Further, David Richmond (now a medico at Cowra), Peter’s son, played cricket for many years with West Pennant Hills and scored a brisk 57 runs in the B Reserve final in 1990/91 when Beecroft left W.P.H. about two hours to score 726 runs to win the premiership!

Mr Richmond enlisted in the Australian Imperial Force in World War II and served in the Middle East, New Guinea, Borneo and Singapore. He was wounded in action during the first raid on Darwin by the Japanese. We extend our sympathy to the family of this remarkable man who has left such a fine legacy.

The Association was saddened to hear of the death of Mrs Jane Sleeman. Jane's sons, Max & Jake (JJ), currently play with Berowra Cricket Club where they started their junior cricket. They also represented HK&HDCA with distinction in representative cricket for many years. Max was previously a member of the successful Hornsby U/15 Weblin Shield team that won the NSWDCA premiership in 2005-06, as well as the Barker College 1st XI and Northern District U/16 Green Shield team. Jane was a regular supporter at her sons' cricket matches and her family hosted many team BBQs and social gatherings at their Berowra home.

Her engaging, humorous and vibrant personality were endearing to everyone who knew her. Jane was a compassionate and inspiring Psychologist and Counsellor in her professional career and had that rare ability to uplift people and make them feel better about themselves. She was proud of her country upbringing and was much loved by her family, friends, work colleagues, students and the cricket community.

Our sincere sympathy is extended to her husband Mark and his three children, Max, Jake & Bonnie.
