We as a body have witnessed further consolidation, growth and development of the wonderful sport of cricket in our local community sports area. With a record number of teams in our senior competition and the development of the various forms of junior cricket, the Association continues to prosper, in an evolving cricket world. Of course, with development and progress comes significant change which within itself, produces additional pressures and demands on our large number of volunteers at all levels. I take this opportunity to sincerely thank all of the thousands of volunteers across all reaches of the Association, whether it is Club or Association level. Without their individual and collective efforts the Association would not be the strength it is today, in our complex modern and unrelenting world. Additionally, I extend this gratitude to your respective families as the impact on valuable family time is insurmountable and not without cost. 5th December 2010 is International Volunteers Day – a day the Association will be encouraging our affiliates to celebrate not just for the year, but also in the years ahead. Moving on, there have been so many highlights throughout the season, including: Asquith Rugby League (ARL) winning a 5th consecutive A-Grade Premiership, the second longest winning streak in our proud history. John MacQuillan (Umpire) and Tom Richmond OAM (Patron) nominations to Cricket Australia by the Association in recognition of 50 years service to the game of cricket. The re-introduction of the senior “Sunday Competition”. The record number of 82 teams playing in our various Senior Competitions. The introduction of the U/8 pre-competition has been a successful initiative and no doubt will become more popular in the years ahead. “Blowfly Cricket” a hybrid format of the game, specifically modelled to suit the diverse requirements of children with special needs. The improved professionalism and success of our Junior Representative teams, with the ratio of ‘wins : losses’ being the highest ever in our history. The affiliation of our newest club, “Wahroonga Bladerunners CC”, a single-team club who performed above expectations to make the semi-finals of the A-Reserve Grade competition. The incorporation of HKHDCUA, our local Umpires branch. Sponsorship – Kookaburra Sports and Triforce Sports are the main sponsors of the Association. Brian Binfield of Fullpoint Graphics is also to be applauded for his support and guidance with our various publications – a quality service. Northern District CC (NDCC) – it is extremely pleasing to be part of a fresher, more pro-active working relationship with our local Grade club. CNSW and the ongoing support and assistance offered to our Member Clubs. The development of the Executive Officer role. Our website is the hub and future direction of the Association and is gaining momentum with its popularity amongst our members. Walter’s Weekly Wrap has been an extremely popular addition Our inaugural Presidents Forum was held at the Austen Hughes Clubroom with all Member Clubs represented. Ross Turner kindly acted as the Facilitator of the forum and Ben Gussey did well with the organising of the function. The Association was a surprised Finalist in the inaugural Hornsby Shire Council Community Organisation of the Year Award. The ongoing support of our three Councils is appreciated. Ongoing ground and / or amenities improvements at Edward Bennett Oval (Hornsby Shire Council), Auluba Oval (Ku-ring-gai Council), and Les Shore Park (The Hills Shire Council) are testament to our working relationship. In closing, the Association continues to be soundly managed by the Executive Members, and their collective efforts truly deserve any recognition they may receive. To all of our Members, volunteers, club officials and players of all ages I wish you a very enjoyable winter season in the sport you choose to play. To all our members, whether juniors or seniors, remember to always play within the rules and spirit of the game and be respectful of your coaches, team mates, opposition and all match officials. Please come back and play cricket with the club of your choice in the 2010/11 season, and why not bring along a friend or two to join in the fun and rigours of our true national sport. A set of rules has been developed which we hope will be the model for similar programs around the state. Imagine a cross between regular cricket and French cricket where: *The ball is hit from a T or from another player who is able to bowl. *Wickets are be made from two normal wickets at right angles to each other to create a greater target for fielders. *All players are participating at all times as either a: Batsman; Fielder, or; -A “Blower” who either bowls or blows a whistle for a T hit. *After a batsman has completed up to two runs (facing only 1 ball at a time), all players move to a new a position in the field (like a clock face). 8 | P a g e Cricket NSW Report The 2009/10 season was an exciting and challenging one for Cricket NSW. It started with the unbelievable high of winning the inaugural Airtel Champions League T20 Competition in India in October, before returning home to complete a crowded domestic program.

This approach to our game starts from our Milo Have-A Go program and our Under 8’s and goes right through to our seniors. In addition, as with all years, there is much that also goes on behind the scenes by many people to enable our cricketers to get onto the park each week and I’m very grateful for these ever passionate volunteers for their time and energies.

Playing rules are simple – a boundary four Thank you to our Sponsors into the rose bushes, but over the fence into the neighbour’s yard is six and out, plus having to go and recover the ball! All Clubs, members and associates are encouraged to Just as the child starts his/her formal education at kindergarten level, Kanga (or, as it has support the products and/or services provided by our been re-badged over the years for marketing purposes, Milo Cricket and In2Cricket) is the kindergarten of a club which, like the school system, is the first step in the pathway various sponsors that takes the child to a possible lifetime of involvement in and enjoyment from the game. At that age, children and their parents are reluctant to move straight into competitive hardball cricket, but are looking for an introductory non-competitive skills and fun based structured program to introduce them to the present day game. This starting platform allows development of hand/eye co-ordination and cricket skills but importantly sees the child become active and socialising in a team/group environment. It also gives mums, dads and even grandparents an opportunity to participate and be involved in the activity with their children and thus build stronger family relationships – and, for the club, provides a source of parent volunteers in the future as the child advances through the junior age groups.

Their skipper, Justin Langer, had recently retired. A crucial part of Australia’s all-conquering side of the 2000s with 23 Test centuries, Langer was a legend of the game. He joined Somerset in 2006 and became club captain a year later. And he went on to have a wonderful career at Taunton. He scored more than 3,000 first-class runs for the club at an average of 51.23, including a record-breaking knock of 342 against Surrey in July 2006. It remains the highest first-class score by a Somerset player. Yet Langer was not just about the runs. Alongside director of cricket Brian Rose and head coach Andy Hurry, he transformed the club. Influenced by his time playing in one of cricket’s greatest teams, he made Somerset winners, instilling a culture of working tirelessly to become the best you can be. Under his leadership, they rose from the foot of the second tier in 2006 to third in Division One in 2009. The county also became a force in white-ball cricket, finishing as runners-up in the final edition of the Pro 40 17 KINGS IN WAITING League and losing the Twenty20 Cup Final to Sussex in 2009.

HORNSBY-KU-RING-GAI AND HILLS DISTRICT CRICKET ASSOCIATION INC. 22nd annual fixture – Official Program Showcase of Emerging Local Cricket Talent Sunday, 23rd February 2020 – Turramurra Oval RTC Captains – Will McFadden (East) and Jack Nati (West) 2019-20 What is the Ross Turner Cup? The HK&HDCA Ross Turner Cup (RTC) was inaugurated in 1998-99 to promote an opportunity for the best of our U/15 players to appear in a ‘showcase’ game of high-level representative cricket. The idea developed from the work of the Northern Metropolitan Cricket Council (NMCC) in the 1990’s, which brought together representatives of grade, shires, district and local school cricket organisations to achieve mutual benefit by working in close collaboration. One of the objectives was to accelerate the ‘career paths’ of our outstanding young cricketers by the early identification of players with talent and commitment, in order to provide high level coaching and development opportunities for these players. It was hoped that many of these players would successfully progress through the HK&HDCA Shield junior representative teams; play AW Green Shield and Grade Cricket with Northern District CC; or A Grade within the HK&HDCA Senior Competition. An amazing 34 players have graduated from the RTC match to play First Grade cricket in Sydney. The RTC and Glenn Hourigan Cup (GHC) matches were the brainchild of Tom Richmond OAM, Patron and Life Member of HK&HDCA, who passed on the responsibility after 12 years to Bruce Wood, President, Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) in 2010-11, who has maintained the fine tradition and introduced some new initiatives, including appointing young RTC and GHC coaches; scheduling the main 50-over matches on adjacent ovals; and arranging preliminary GHC T20 matches, where possible.
