This approach to our game starts from our Milo Have-A Go program and our Under 8’s and goes right through to our seniors. In addition, as with all years, there is much that also goes on behind the scenes by many people to enable our cricketers to get onto the park each week and I’m very grateful for these ever passionate volunteers for their time and energies. One of our main driving values at the Club is 'Increasing Participation in Cricket' and to this extent, Springwood Cricket Club continues to be a strong contributor to our local area. This season was one of the wettest seasons I can remember but despite this, when the rain let us play, there were many strong performances. Congratulations to all our players who competed this year and to our premiership winning 1 st and 3 rd grade sides. Also, a big thank you to all our volunteers including the Junior coaches and managers and the Senior Captains (and managers). The fact that these individuals step forward and take on these roles means a better season for us all - so thank you. This year saw the third Legends Dinner. Ironically, the aforementioned inclement weather resulted in our annual ‘Back to Springwood’ Day – which usually follows the Legends Dinner -never actually getting underway this season. Despite this, the Legends night was yet again a fantastic success with great speeches by former NRL head referee, Greg McCallum and Australian representative Blind Cricketer, Ben Phillips. The highlight of the night was the recognition of our newest (and youngest) Life Member, Adam Thomas, a true current stalwart of our Club. I would like to also acknowledge our committee. It’s been another pleasurable year running the club with such a great bunch of people. And lastly, thank you to all who supported our club this season. I am very proud to have been president of this club during another fantastic year and I look forward to seeing you all (and potentially playing with a number of you) in season 2012/13. Yours in cricket, David Williams President, Springwood Cricket Club 4 JUNIOR PERPETUAL TROPHY WINNERS JUNIOR CRICKETER OF THE YEAR: Aidan Williams This season’s Junior cricketer of the year had a great season, leading his side from the front each week. Whether it was batting, bowling or fielding, Aidan performed with distinction. He scored 223 runs at an average of 22.3, took 9 wickets at 27 with the ball and was responsible for taking 7 catches. His highlight of the year was making a fantastic 63 which included 6 boundaries. MOST PROMISING JUNIOR CRICKETER: Douglas Rogers Douglas had a great season in the U14’s, contributing heavily to ensure that his team had the chance to make it to the final. His batting netted him 151 runs at an average of 18.9, including a highest score of 29. His safe hands held 4 catches and he took 13 wickets at 7.2. Such was the success of his season Douglas was selected in the Under 13 emerging blues squad. PAUSEY SHIELD: Matthew Hunt (Junior Clubman of the Year) The Pausey Shield for Junior Clubman of the Year is not awarded for superb ability on the field, though Matthew did have a solid season both with bat and ball, scoring 104 runs @ 13.4 & taking 5 wickets. What caught the attention of everyone in the club was the way Matthew embodied the spirit of cricket that exists in our club. His sportsmanship was indicative of the way we all would like to play cricket, and see cricket played. His good performances on the field were no more important than the way he went about his ‘work’. Matthew also helped out with the Milo In2Cricket program this season, as well as supporting the club at it’s annual Back to Springwood Day and supported the senior grades by playing a full season in 8 th Grade. 5 2011-2012 CENTURY SCORERS AGE GROUP DATE PLAYER SCORE OPPONENT 2011-2012 5 WICKETS IN AN INNINGS AGE GROUP DATE PLAYER FIGURES OPPONENT 14 DIV 2 8/10/11 Hamish Rogers 5 FOR 6 Emu Plains 2011-12 HAT-TRICKS AGE GROUP DATE PLAYER FIGURES OPPONENT 6 UNDER 8 I loved coaching the Under 8’s this year. To see our cricketers go from hardly knowing which end of the bat to hold to all being very capable by the end of the year was fantastic. I especially enjoyed coming back after the Christmas break to find out that they’d all discovered what Twenty20 cricket was all about. We had all the usual “Who’s bowling next?”, “Can I open the batting today?”, “How many overs before drinks?” etc type of questions, and I don’t expect they will stop until the kids reach the U14’s. And the rain ...will it ever stop? Still we enjoyed ourselves. Individually, the boys played as follows: Liam Bayliss For a first time cricketer, Liam’s year was fantastic. He excelled with both bat and bowl and in the field, if the ball was anywhere in the vicinity (and sometimes even if it wasn’t), he was always racing after it and throwing it in at full pace. Highlights this year from Liam were him bowling a couple of leg spinners on target and talking the finer points of the game with me on our way out to field, such as one example after Christmas when I was informed that it was “a good seeing day” and that “early wickets were the key. Great Season Liam ... see you next season. Bethany Droll If you’re looking for a person who’s going to have the MOST fun on the cricket field, you can’t go past Bethany. Bethany did everything this season, be it batting, bowling, wicket-keeping on fielding with a smile from ear to ear. Highlights for Bethany this year were her improved batting over the year including some great shots in the last couple of matches and the look of absolute concentration on her face as she bowled. Well done Beth, Great Season! Look forward to seeing you next one. Lachlan McGrath Lachlan joined us early this season having received ‘the call up’ from the hustle and bustle of the Milo “Have-A-Go” Friday afternoon cricket program. And he hit the ground running excelling with the bat and the ball. You wouldn’t know he was the youngest in the side! Highlights for Lachy were some of his batting at the end of the year and his improvement in his bowling from the start of the year until the end. Well done mate – looking forward to next year. Finn McDonald As umpire, everytime I looked around it seemed Finn was there ready to have a bowl this year. And always always with a smile on his face. Forming one half of the Skinner/McDonald partnership for this year Finn was another of those cricketers who improved out of sight by the end of the year – especially his batting. My Finn highlight was his batting in the last games – when he got a decent bat in his grip... big things ahead next year Finn, looking forward to it! Paddy Murphy With so many brothers, there was no way that Paddy wasn’t going to improve over the course of the year and improve he did. With the bat, a very solid player who hits a mean ball. With the ball, a very accurate bowler who will only improve more nxt year and beyond. My Paddy highlight was his bowling in the last couple of games ... very accurate. Good season Paddy – see you next year. Daniel Skinner Dan is the second half of the Skinner/McDonald partnership and his enthusiasm in every part of this game shone through. When the season stared, Dan, could hardly get the ball down the other 7 end when bowling ... by the end of the season, he was getting ball up there and I lost count of the number of batsmen that he bowled. My Dan highlight wa his bowling improvement and some of his batting at the end of the year... a glimpse of things to come next year. Well done Dan, look forward to seeing you back. Sam Turner Our little nuggetty Sam … What a player. As a left handed bat, Sam technique looks first class – getting his front foot out to the ball and his bowling improved out of sight over the year.

Their skipper, Justin Langer, had recently retired. A crucial part of Australia’s all-conquering side of the 2000s with 23 Test centuries, Langer was a legend of the game. He joined Somerset in 2006 and became club captain a year later. And he went on to have a wonderful career at Taunton. He scored more than 3,000 first-class runs for the club at an average of 51.23, including a record-breaking knock of 342 against Surrey in July 2006. It remains the highest first-class score by a Somerset player. Yet Langer was not just about the runs. Alongside director of cricket Brian Rose and head coach Andy Hurry, he transformed the club. Influenced by his time playing in one of cricket’s greatest teams, he made Somerset winners, instilling a culture of working tirelessly to become the best you can be. Under his leadership, they rose from the foot of the second tier in 2006 to third in Division One in 2009. The county also became a force in white-ball cricket, finishing as runners-up in the final edition of the Pro 40 17 KINGS IN WAITING League and losing the Twenty20 Cup Final to Sussex in 2009.

HORNSBY-KU-RING-GAI AND HILLS DISTRICT CRICKET ASSOCIATION INC. 22nd annual fixture – Official Program Showcase of Emerging Local Cricket Talent Sunday, 23rd February 2020 – Turramurra Oval RTC Captains – Will McFadden (East) and Jack Nati (West) 2019-20 What is the Ross Turner Cup? The HK&HDCA Ross Turner Cup (RTC) was inaugurated in 1998-99 to promote an opportunity for the best of our U/15 players to appear in a ‘showcase’ game of high-level representative cricket. The idea developed from the work of the Northern Metropolitan Cricket Council (NMCC) in the 1990’s, which brought together representatives of grade, shires, district and local school cricket organisations to achieve mutual benefit by working in close collaboration. One of the objectives was to accelerate the ‘career paths’ of our outstanding young cricketers by the early identification of players with talent and commitment, in order to provide high level coaching and development opportunities for these players. It was hoped that many of these players would successfully progress through the HK&HDCA Shield junior representative teams; play AW Green Shield and Grade Cricket with Northern District CC; or A Grade within the HK&HDCA Senior Competition. An amazing 34 players have graduated from the RTC match to play First Grade cricket in Sydney. The RTC and Glenn Hourigan Cup (GHC) matches were the brainchild of Tom Richmond OAM, Patron and Life Member of HK&HDCA, who passed on the responsibility after 12 years to Bruce Wood, President, Coaches’ Association (HKHDCCA) in 2010-11, who has maintained the fine tradition and introduced some new initiatives, including appointing young RTC and GHC coaches; scheduling the main 50-over matches on adjacent ovals; and arranging preliminary GHC T20 matches, where possible.
