Annual Report ANNUAL REPORT SEASON 2010-2011 JUNIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT 7.30pm, Friday, 1 st April 2011 at Pennant Hills Bowling Club SENIOR PRESENTATION NIGHT 7.00pm, Saturday, 7 th May 2011 at Pennant Hills Bowling Club Normanhurst-Warrawee Cricket Club Originally known as Normanhurst Cricket Club Established in 1926 (Foundation Club in HK&HDCA) A DIVISION OF NORMANHURST SPORTS CLUB www.nwcc.nsw.cricket.com.au PRESIDENT’S REPORT Taking on the Club President role this year has been very rewarding and has enabled me to meet many of the players, parents, families and friends. I am very proud of the Club’s tradition and history and believe it is very important to carry this forward by enriching all who are associated with our great Club. We are proud to be a Foundation Club in the Association, which was formed in 1926-27. 2010/11 has been another very successful season for the Club as we continued building and developing players across all ages. With more than 300 playing members (200+ Juniors and 100+ Seniors) we are one of the largest Clubs in the Association. Season Highlights: • Winning 3 HK&HDCA Premierships – Junior’s (2) in the U13’s and U14’s and Senior’s (1) in C3’s. 7 teams participated in the Grand Finals (5 in Seniors - Colts, B2, C2, C3 & D1 and 2 in Juniors); • Our A Grade winning the inaugural HK&HDCA Twenty/20 Competition in October 2010. Somewhat ironic as we won the inaugural A Grade Competition in 1926-27 (85 years ago). We have retained the match balls from both these historic A Grade victories and they feature on two of our perpetual trophies. • Our U16 team winning the State Final of Cricket NSW’s Twenty/20 Weet-Bix Cup competition, which was played at the SCG on Sunday 6 March 2011. This is a super achievement and proved to be a great experience that the boys will cherish forever. I watched several of their matches and must add that these young gentleman displayed outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship whilst representing our Club and the Association throughout the competition, congratulations. • Retaining the HK&HDCA Junior Club Championship for the third consecutive season. This is a magnificent achievement and a credit to all our Junior cricketers. NWCC has now won this award on five occasions in the Club’s history; • Fielding 24 teams in the competitions – 8 in Seniors (Grades A, A2, U19 Colts, B2, C1, C2, C3 & D1) and 16 in Juniors (U16’s, U15’s, U14’s (2), U13’s, U12’s (2), U11’s (2), U10’s (2), U9’s (3), U8’s and Milo (in2Cricket). To have a junior semi-finalist in every age group was again a phenomenal leap from only a few years ago when we couldn’t field a side at every age level; • 40 players playing representative cricket for HK&HDCA – the most from any club in the Association. • The NWCC Milo in2CRICKET program continuing to attract many younger players to the game and providing plenty of fun for all involved; • The Youths winning the “Youth Veteran’s Cup” played at Normanhurst Oval on 17 December 2010; • The introduction of a Club Polo Shirt to be worn by players and officials for special matches, training, pre & post matches, Club functions, umpiring etc; and • Replacement of the synthetic cricket pitch at Normanhurst Oval in September 2010. The major challenge this season was to re-enter an A Grade team after the retirement of several senior players in 2008/09. With the commitment and resources of our Life Member Bruce Wood, we fielded a young A Grade side made up of members from last season’s winning Colts (U19) team, the return of past players and some new recruits. With varying success throughout the season, we have set up a sound basis for future years for which I look forward to being involved with its development and success. 2 Developing skills and making cricket fun and enjoyable for our Junior members is a priority of mine. I have had the opportunity to watch many Junior matches this season and also play alongside several Juniors that have ventured into the Senior ranks. I look forward to continuing the development of cricket at the Junior level over the coming seasons and take this opportunity to congratulate each and every Junior player for their significant contribution to our Club. During the season Bruce Wood and I have been seeking funding from several sources to fund our plans to provide better cricket facilities at Normanhurst Oval. This includes refurbishing/extending the existing cricket nets and sheds subject to various approvals. We are confident funding will be made available, however additional funds will be required for which I ask that we all get involved in fund raising activities planned for next season. Last but certainly not least, a big thankyou to all those volunteers who have contributed to the running of the club over the last twelve months. The Committee has seen a small bunch of very hard working people doing a fantastic job for the benefit of all the members. Captains, Coaches and Managers have done another great job ensuring their teams make the field week after week. Not to forget the parents for doing the umpiring and scoring at Junior matches, thank you. I encourage more people to get involved by volunteering their time to join or assist the Committee with the administering and continued development of our wonderful Club. Kind regards, Mike Griffin President ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING The Normanhurst-Warrawee Cricket Club Annual General Meeting (AGM) will be held at Pennant Hills Bowling Club, 52 Yarrara Road, Pennant Hills, at 8.00 pm on Monday 9 th May 2011 . Kingborough had led for the early part of the season but following from the Christmas break, the Roos have edged ahead narrowly. The club championship reflects the overall position of the clubs within the CTPL, taking into account all CTPL grades, male and female. There is a tight tussle in the middle of the ladder also with North Hobart continuing to build and move into third position ahead of Lindisfarne and University. There are still plenty of points up for grabs with two-day cricket featuring heavily for the remainder of the season. Lord Taverners Spirit of Cricket Award The Spirit of Cricket ladder is as tight as ever with the averages of 2nd place through to 5th place separated by only 0.07 points. Competition new comers, Greater Northern, are in the box seat with Kingborough and University hot on their tails. Clubs are rated after each game on three aspects with the average rating across all games played by the club in all grades determining the final victor. To have 9 clubs with an average above 6 reflects that the competition is being played in the right spirit.

Sussex CCC vs Glamorgan Specsavers County Championship – Division Two The 1st Central County Ground, Hove Monday 27th – Thursday 30th May 2019 Day One Opener Phil Salt scored his second successive century to put Sussex in a good position on day one of their Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan at The 1st Central County Ground. Having made 122 against Northamptonshire last week, Welsh-born Salt reached the fourth hundred of his career in the final over of the day when he collected his 12th boundary courtesy of a mis-field by Charlie Hemphrey at mid-off. But two balls later Salt was caught behind cutting at Dan Douthwaite for 103, made off 105 balls with 12 fours and three sixes. Sussex were 208 for 5 at stumps, a lead of 22. Sussex have struggled to get good starts this season but Salt, who was called into England’s T20 squad earlier this month, gave the innings a solid platform by putting on 85 with Luke Wells in 15 overs. Wells (30) failed to control his hook shot when Douthwaite dug one in short then Glamorgan took three wickets in ten balls to reduce Sussex to 126 for 4. Australian leg-spinner Marnus Labuschagne picked up Harry Finch (31) and Stiaan van Zyl (0) with his first two deliveries as Finch missed a long hop and van Zyl was beaten by a googly. Timm van der Gugten then returned to the attack to bowl Laurie Evans (4) via an inside edge. But Sussex skipper Ben Brown, who also made a century last week, and Salt took Sussex into the lead with a stand of 82 in 17 overs.

ANNUAL REPORT SEASON 2003-2004 PRESENTATION NIGHT Friday, 7th May 2004 at Pennant Hills Bowling Club Normanhurst Cricket Club Established in 1926 (Foundation Club in HK&HDCA) A DIVISION OF NORMANHURST SPORTS CLUB www.NormoSports.com PRESIDENT’S REPORT I’d like to start by thanking everyone who was involved with the club this year. The coaches, managers, scorers, umpires and spectators, you are what Normanhurst Cricket Club is all about – a community. This season was not too dissimilar to last season. Numbers were fairly static – we lost one junior side (the girls team) but gained a new senior team. One of the most pleasing developments this year is our securing of sponsorship from Pennant Hills Bowling Club. One hundred players and parents took up the opportunity to become members at PHBC which got us over the line as far as their sponsorship criteria was concerned. I’d like to thank PHBC for their support and we are hoping this will be the start of a long relationship between us both. There were some great team and individual achievements this season, which included Premierships by the senior A2 team and junior U/13 Gilchrist team, a rare hat-trick by Simon Krisenthal (U/12 Martyn), Simon Laveau’s stunning 9/21 in A2’s, and Nishad Kulkarni’s 128 in C3’s – his first century in senior cricket. Of course there were many other highlights and you can read about them in the following reports. This season saw us reach two milestones that the Committee has put in place over the past four years: • Our A2’s won the minor premiership, then went on to defeat Galston-Glenorie in the Final, so next season NCC will have an A Grade team, our first since 1997-98.
