PRESIDENT’S REPORT

Taking on the Club President role this year has been very rewarding and has enabled me to meet many of the players, parents, families and friends. I am very proud of the Club’s tradition and history and believe it is very important to carry this forward by enriching all who are associated with our great Club. We are proud to be a Foundation Club in the Association, which was formed in 1926-27.

2010/11 has been another very successful season for the Club as we continued building and developing players across all ages. With more than 300 playing members (200+ Juniors and 100+ Seniors) we are one of the largest Clubs in the Association.

Season Highlights: • Winning 3 HK&HDCA Premierships – Junior’s (2) in the U13’s and U14’s and Senior’s (1) in C3’s. 7 teams participated in the Grand Finals (5 in Seniors - Colts, B2, C2, C3 & D1 and 2 in Juniors); • Our A Grade winning the inaugural HK&HDCA Twenty/20 Competition in October 2010. Somewhat ironic as we won the inaugural A Grade Competition in 1926-27 (85 years ago). We have retained the match balls from both these historic A Grade victories and they feature on two of our perpetual trophies. • Our U16 team winning the State Final of Cricket NSW’s Twenty/20 Weet-Bix Cup competition, which was played at the SCG on Sunday 6 March 2011. This is a super achievement and proved to be a great experience that the boys will cherish forever. I watched several of their matches and must add that these young gentleman displayed outstanding behaviour and sportsmanship whilst representing our Club and the Association throughout the competition, congratulations. • Retaining the HK&HDCA Junior Club Championship for the third consecutive season. This is a magnificent achievement and a credit to all our Junior cricketers. NWCC has now won this award on five occasions in the Club’s history; • Fielding 24 teams in the competitions – 8 in Seniors (Grades A, A2, U19 Colts, B2, C1, C2, C3 & D1) and 16 in Juniors (U16’s, U15’s, U14’s (2), U13’s, U12’s (2), U11’s (2), U10’s (2), U9’s (3), U8’s and Milo (in2Cricket). To have a junior semi-finalist in every age group was again a phenomenal leap from only a few years ago when we couldn’t field a side at every age level; • 40 players playing representative cricket for HK&HDCA – the most from any club in the Association. • The NWCC Milo in2CRICKET program continuing to attract many younger players to the game and providing plenty of fun for all involved; • The Youths winning the “Youth Veteran’s Cup” played at Normanhurst Oval on 17 December 2010; • The introduction of a Club Polo Shirt to be worn by players and officials for special matches, training, pre & post matches, Club functions, umpiring etc; and • Replacement of the synthetic cricket pitch at Normanhurst Oval in September 2010.

The major challenge this season was to re-enter an A Grade team after the retirement of several senior players in 2008/09. With the commitment and resources of our Life Member Bruce Wood, we fielded a young A Grade side made up of members from last season’s winning Colts (U19) team, the return of past players and some new recruits. With varying success throughout the season, we have set up a sound basis for future years for which I look forward to being involved with its development and success.

2

Developing skills and making cricket fun and enjoyable for our Junior members is a priority of mine. I have had the opportunity to watch many Junior matches this season and also play alongside several Juniors that have ventured into the Senior ranks. I look forward to continuing the development of cricket at the Junior level over the coming seasons and take this opportunity to congratulate each and every Junior player for their significant contribution to our Club.

During the season Bruce Wood and I have been seeking funding from several sources to fund our plans to provide better cricket facilities at Normanhurst Oval. This includes refurbishing/extending the existing cricket nets and sheds subject to various approvals. We are confident funding will be made available, however additional funds will be required for which I ask that we all get involved in fund raising activities planned for next season.

Last but certainly not least, a big thankyou to all those volunteers who have contributed to the running of the club over the last twelve months. The Committee has seen a small bunch of very hard working people doing a fantastic job for the benefit of all the members. Captains, Coaches and Managers have done another great job ensuring their teams make the field week after week. Not to forget the parents for doing the umpiring and scoring at Junior matches, thank you.

I encourage more people to get involved by volunteering their time to join or assist the Committee with the administering and continued development of our wonderful Club.

Kind regards,

Mike Griffin President

OUTSTANDING ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Bruce Wood (Life Member) In recognition of 14 years (1997 – 2011) consecutive service to our Club, Bruce Wood was awarded with an Outstanding Achievement medal by Club President Mike Griffin at the NWCC Junior & Senior Presentation evenings held in April and May 2011. Bruce has been involved with our club at many levels over the past 14 years covering almost all the committee positions from President to Equipment Officer, as well as over a decade of coaching, umpiring and administration. In recent seasons he has capably performed the role of Webmaster for our club, establishing our existing website from scratch. Last year Bruce was the driving force behind our Colts premiership team, which he used in 2010-11 to resurrect our A Grade team, bolstered by the return of several strong players he coached in his Normo junior premiership teams over the past decade. Bruce played for our club for a couple of seasons, helping to mentor younger players in their transition to senior cricket. In October 2000 (straight after working at the Sydney Olympics), Bruce and his mate Bryan Whitlock set a record for the highest 5 th wicket partnership for all grades in HK&HDCA history, combining for 320 runs (unbroken) at Normanhurst Oval. This is the highest partnership achieved by NWCC players. Bruce has also made a significant contribution to cricket at Association level, having been a member of the HK&HDCA Executive for many years, performing the role of Umpires’ Secretary and more recently, President of HKHDCCA (Coaches' Association). His combined experience and reputation as a leading representative cricket coach (Level 2 accredited); senior umpire and efficient administrator within our Association are second to none. In the past couple of months, he has successfully taken over the co-ordination of the showcase Ross Turner Cup and Glenn Hourigan Cup representative fixtures, carrying on the fine work previously undertaken by Tom Richmond, OAM, Patron and Life Member of HK&HDCA. Bruce has decided to spend more time with his family in future and restrict his cricket involvement to HKHDCCA activities, CAS umpiring, and helping ND's select the best local players in their Green Shield team. However he will continue to maintain his relationship with NWCC as an active Life Member and advisor. On behalf of the Committee and our Club, I thank Bruce for his outstanding service and loyalty to NWCC. We wish him and his family all the best. Mike Griffin President

Lots of fun was had and heaps of energy burnt off every Saturday morning (when it wasn’t wet!), with everyone learning the skills of the game and playing lots of enjoyable games.

Well done to Jason Maxworthy for running these sessions each week and we look forward to seeing everyone back playing cricket again next season.

UNDER 8 Aaron Sayers, Dashiell Henkel, Dhruv Hariharan, Joel Brevig, Matthew Honeyman, Oliver Henkel, Oliver Slawski

The team named itself the Hurricanes early in the season. As a newly formed team we all saw a big change as the season progressed with significant improvement in the team skills and always lots of enthusiasm to play.

Aaron – Always enthusiastically boosted the team effort, especially with some great fielding and catching.

Dashiell – Showed great enthusiasm and improvement in bowling.

Dhruv – Demonstrated strong commitment to team values, batting and fielding.

Joel – Showed strong improvement in bowling and good batting.

Matthew – Was good at getting wickets and catching.

Oliver H –Improved significantly in batting skills and bowling.

Oliver S – Developed into a good batsman and was also good at fielding.

We chose to not award any individual players, they are all ‘award winning’ players and have been part of a great team effort. Coach: Wayne Slawski Manager: Kurt Henkel

UNDER 9 WHITE

What a terrific season of cricket for NWCC Under 9 White! In the early weeks they played with more enthusiasm than finesse, but as the season progressed their skills improved, their confidence grew and they gave their opposition a torrid time every week.

We watched each Saturday as the bowling became sharper and more precise, the stroke- making more flamboyant - including shots on both sides of the wicket, the fielding tighter and the running between wickets generally less frenetic and more assured. Most of the boys bowled with more confidence as the season progressed, albeit on some very narrow pitches.

The big hitters in the team took great delight in menacing opposition bowlers; and all improved their defence, playing straighter and getting behind the ball. The fielding was fantastic, with great stops, throwing and backing up.

The team also became adept at running opposing batsmen out if they took the chance of a run after hitting the ball straight at the fielder. To top it off there were a couple of really good catches, and plenty of talk and encouragement of teammates while in the field.

Every weekend there was something to cheer about: - Charlie Binet's pull shots, great eye for the ball, and straight bowling that dried up the opposition's run rate; - Jayath Gunawardena's hard work at training paying off and his batting improving every week, till he hit a memorable four that had the whole team cheering; - Archie Hanlon's confident bowling, fluid batting technique and safe hands marking him out as a future all-rounder (the day he took 3 wickets in an over, we knew we had that game won!); - Bayden Little's enthusiasm lifting the team every week, and his lightning speed between wickets making him a great batting partner and difficult to run out; - Morgan LIttle's powerhouse batting, with big shots on either side of the wicket often the backbone of the innings, and his fielding resulting in opposition run outs almost every week; - Ben Maisano's confident batting and sharp fielding in the outfield and behind the stumps; - Ben Turner's diligent training boosting his skills every week, till he took a cracker of a catch that saw much backslapping and 'high fives' from teammates; - Nick Walsh's enormous hits, with boundaries galore and some booming sixes, giving us a decent total every week which he'd then top off with his fast and intimidating bowling; and - Eddy Westcott's all round ability, with lightning reflexes and loud encouragement in the field, routinely keeping the bowling tight and the opposition batsmen nervous.

This team won more than they lost, improved each week, learnt new skills and enjoyed their cricket. Thank you to coach Tim Binet and all the parents who helped with scoring each week, and well played boys!

UNDER 9 RED

The Mighty Under 9 Reds had a terrific season.

Congratulations to Benjamin Anthonisz, Rishikesh Deshpande, Hugh Jordan, Noah Koshy, Matthew Lam, Xerxes Lopes, Robert Murdoch, and Joshua Stead !

It was the first season for many of the kids, and their enthusiasm didn’t waver through the many hot weekends we experienced.

One great aspect of the season was to see how each individual player developed. Without exception, bowling ability developed enormously and bats that seemed heavy and hard to handle at the start of the season were swung with flourish and deftness at the end.

Thanks to the careful guidance of coach Vinay, it was great to see how the group developed as a team. The boys loved celebrating wickets with each other, and were very supportive of each other in victory or defeat.

Thank you boys for playing with such great spirit and enthusiasm and for your willingness to try your best at any position.

Thanks also to Subodh Deshpande who helped with umpiring every week and to our team parents who helped with scoring.

UNDER 9 BLACK

This has been an outstanding season for the U9 Black team. We started the season with three veterans (second season - Jordan Fullagar, Isaac Binet and Nick Blunt ) and five cricket newbies ( Daniel Lane, Barnabus Hackett, Francis Bolster, Taj Soupidis and Sean Mackie ). Whether at training or in the game, all the boys gave everything. Watching these young guys field, as if they have been playing the game for years, was fantastic. They are a high-spirited team who supported each other throughout each match. Their enthusiasm for the game was reflected in their results, winning 15 of their 18 matches..!

Francis has had a great season, fitting in brilliantly with the team, despite being the only player not at the same school as everyone else. Each week Francis consistently put runs on the board. His on pitch calls became louder and clearer by the end of the season. His bowling showed a clear improvement throughout the season, highlighted in the week which he first took two wickets for 4 runs, and then conceded just 3 runs for another wicket. Francis has been a great member of the team!

Isaac has had fantastic impact on the team’s results and has had arguably the most consistent results from week to week in his bowling attack. Highlights include bowling 1 (wicket) for 4 (runs), and two weeks where he bowled 1 for 3. Isaac was also solid with the bat, frequently sending leg glances for four. A consistent performer with some outstanding performances.

14

Nick has been excellent throughout the season. He has explored many facets of the game - shuffling the fieldsman around between balls and when injured, engaging a runner. Nick has had above-average bowling results. Some of those results include a staggering 2 for 3 and a 2 for 5. A highlight of the season was the week Nick hit a six off the last ball to win the match!

Daniel has been truly brilliant, with his above-average bowling from one end of the season to the other. Dan has had some beautiful results, including an astonishing 3 for 3 and a 4 for 5. He was on a hat-trick twice in the one match! Daniel’s strength has shown through with the bat as well, scoring 28 off 12 balls in one innings. Dan is our player most familiar with the 6! A true asset to the team.

Taj is a player to have shown marked improvement across the season. He has had some excellent bowling results, taking 10 wickets, including a 1 for 4 and a 2 for 5. Each week Taj has added runs to his season’s tally and his speed down the pitch has improved. Taj’s bowling and batting statistics show a steady improvement, especially in the second half of the season, showing us that he is definitely one to watch!

Barney has surprised and delighted us throughout the season with his truly unique and mathematically effective bowling style. The numbers don’t lie - a 2 for 11 helped put the boys in a winning position, and a 2 for 6 was remarkable. Barney has been equally exciting with the bat and towards the end of the season really started to enjoy hitting fours. Congratulations on an excellent season!

Sean has shown some steady improvement in his bowling, now flaunting a consistent looking arm action. His bowling peaked when he claimed 2 wickets for just one run, which is about as good as it gets. He also scored two 1 for 5s, including a wonderful caught-and-bowled. Sean sent the ball for a four a few times during the season and his movement between wickets has picked up some pace.

Last but not least is Jordan , who has been exceptional, no doubt breaking records if any were to be kept! He was the team’s highest wicket-taker with 17 for the season, starting with a 1 for 0 in the very first week and culminating with a 2 for 3 in the final match. Jordy also claimed the lowest no-ball rate by far, and an astonishing bowler’s strike rate (average no. runs conceded between wickets) of just 13.06. Equally exceptional with the bat, with the highest run rate (runs per over) of 7.1. Too many fours to count and a couple of sixes! A great all rounder and a good sport!

UNDER 10 BLACK

2010/11 season has been a challenging and fun year for the U10 Blacks. It has been a season of two halves with the team losing the first match of the season and then remaining unbeaten till the last match before Xmas. The switch to hard ball in the new year took a bit getting used to, resulting in a few losses before ending the season with a win in the final match. The team has had a lot of fun and has shown good improvement as well. It has been wonderful coaching this talented bunch of cricketers (despite the complaints of my wife about it adding to the greying of my hair.)

Nicholas Hammond : Nick has had a fantastic season and has been the highest run scorer for the year with 274 runs and the joint highest wicket taker with 11 wickets. His performance in every match has been wholehearted. He is talented and very competitive. As a batsman he is an excellent striker of the ball and is hungry for runs. As a bowler he is naturally quick and loves bowling fast. Nick is also an excellent fielder and makes difficult catches look really easy in any part of the field. Nick’s biggest asset along with his talent is his terrific attitude to cricket, to him every run, every wicket and every catch matters. It has been a real pleasure coaching him this year. (Winner of the Performance award of the year)

Rory Craig: Rory is a wonderful cricketer and has had an excellent season. With 189 runs, he is the second highest scorer for the team. Rory also took 7 wickets for the season. He is also a good committed fielder with a terrific arm. As a batsman, Rory has the gift of naturally playing the ball as late as possible. As a bowler he has a natural action for outswing, which he bowls at a good pace. It will remain a mystery as to how he ended up with 7 wickets for the season, with a bit more luck, he could have easily picked up twice the number of wickets that he did. He is very respectful and attentive and is always keen to learn and put into practice what he has learned. He would be an asset to any team he joins. It was a pleasure coaching Rory throughout the year.

Phillip Craig: Phil is another player who has had a great season for the club, scoring 144 runs and picking up 11 wickets (joint highest). Phil is talented in all facets of the game. As a batsman, he has excellent judgement about what balls to hit and what balls to defend. He never gives his wicket away cheaply and is someone the team can rely on in a crisis. As a bowler, in the training sessions, Phil, in his own words, does a lot of “experimenting” (wink, wink, nudge, nudge). But come game time he is always on target and always performs well. Phil is far and away the best keeper in the team. He has great hands; I have seen him keep to some really difficult balls with ridiculous ease and that too standing up to the wicket. He has excellent hand/eye co-ordination and if he wanted to be a specialist keeper, I have no doubt he would really excel. It has been great fun working with him this season. (Winner performance award of the year)

Varun Arora: Varun has had a great year, scoring 118 runs and taking 9 wickets. With his batting Varun hates getting out and in fact only got out twice in the whole season, one of which was a run out (which he wanted to refer to the TV umpire because he reckons he was ). With his bowling he started to further improve his bowling with the hard ball and was bowling excellent line and length towards the end of the year. Varun is a very passionate and committed cricketer and takes all facets of the game very seriously and always gives his 100%. It was interesting watching him develop this year as he has not played cricket before. He is well on his way to becoming a cricket tragic (like his dad). My only piece of advice would be to not discuss the field placing, the bowling changes or the batting techniques around the dinner table EVERY NIGHT, as it bores his mum.

Angus Davie: Angus has been a terrific member of the team this year. He has been really dedicated throughout the year in training and on match days. During the training sessions, he 16 bowled tirelessly in the nets every week. Angus always urged on his team mates and lifted the morale of the whole side be it when he is batting or in the field. He is also very switched on in the field. In the field, he would be the first one to notice if a left hander or a right hander was on strike and would ensure that the field was placed accordingly. I have no doubt that in coming years Angus will continue to perform really well. I and the whole team have really appreciated having him as a part of our team.

Anirudh Nair: Anirudh has been a wonderful contributor to the team this year. Anirudh is an intelligent and well spoken young man. He is also an excellent leg spin bowler who is very accurate and almost always lands the ball in the right spot. His unerring accuracy not only earned him 8 wickets for the season he also built up pressure by drying up the runs. He is also an enthusiastic fielder. Anirudh’s batting also kept on getting better and better throughout the year. He is a good listener and is keen to learn more about the game of cricket. He is a much valued member of the team and has been a pleasure to coach.

Aryan Devikar: Aryan has had an excellent season this year. As a batsman he is a strong striker of the ball, particularly on the on side. He punishes anything that is slightly loose on his pads. Aryan also made good contributions to the team as a bowler. He has a whippy bowling action, which means that he skids onto the bat and often the opposition batsmen are surprised with his pace. Aryan is also a good fielder with a strong arm who is always ‘switched on” in the field and is always mindful of the team’s position in the match. It has been really good working with him this year.

Vedant Virmani: Vedant is a very talented young cricketer. As a batsman he loves to hit out and loves to give the ball a good whack. He is particularly good on the onside, where he likes to score most of his runs. The area between mid-wicket and backward square is a favourite. Vedant likes to bowl from around the wicket and flights the ball well. He is also accurate and lands the ball in the right areas and despite missing some matches due to an overseas trip still finished the year with 6 wickets. He has had a good year and will no doubt continue to perform better and better.

Raj Labade: Raj is an excellent cricketer with lots of skill. Despite not being able to play too many matches, his contributions have been good. With the bat, Raj is a good striker of the ball, and likes hitting straight. With the ball Raj has changed his action, from a long run up at the start of the year to about 4-5 steps but has picked up his pace. When his action is working rhythmically, Raj is quick and accurate and is a handful for the opposing batsmen. I hope he will continue to work on his bowling as he has good natural pace and can continue to develop into an excellent fast bowler and a hard hitting batsman.

Nitish Chandra: Nitish has been a wonderful member of our team throughout the year. He has a terrific attitude towards the game of cricket and is always wanting to learn and improve. He has also been very committed in training and in the matches. His enthusiasm has been appreciated by his team mates. He is a very popular team member and player, selflessly putting the team’s interest above his personal ambitions. All the other team members have enjoyed having Nitish as part of our team and am sure would love to have him in the team again next year. I have really enjoyed coaching him this season and look forward to seeing him continue to further develop his game.

James Braithwaite, Ralph Cockburn, Cheru Dassanayake, Tom Harris, Thomas Pownall, Samreet Singh, Alexander Smeallie, Daniel Stewart, Teddy Tencza .

Well done to all members of the U10 Reds who really played as a team this season. The arrival of the hard ball after Christmas was greeted with considerable excitement, although one closer- fielding player was heard to say, "My hands are going to die!"

James and Ralph were among our top bowlers; James with his steady and consistent pitching, and Ralph's impassioned focus taking a devastating3 wickets in one over! Well done to you both.

Cheru and Thomas, both "on debut" this season, steadily grew in experience and skill as the rounds progressed. Cheru's enthusiasm and perseverance was spot-on and an example to all the players. We were sorry to see Thomas return to the U.K. with his family just before Christmas.

Tom was a model of batting consistency, seldom losing his wicket and very sound in his defence against faster bowlers. Samreet, on the other hand, blazed away with the willow in all matches, seemingly indifferent to the bowling attack. He finished the season with the highest batting total by a very healthy margin.

Alexander and Daniel were our team all-rounders. Both were sharp in the field, taking some elegant catches, economical with their bowling and very handy with the bat. Excellent work boys. Teddy was far-away our top wicket-taker for the season, despite missing the first two rounds due to overseas travel commitments. Also our second highest run-scorer, he's a true all- rounder.

Many thanks to all those parents who contributed to transport, umpiring, scoring and cheering from the oval fringes.

Another year and still they improve. It’s always a great pleasure to coach a team that is full of enthusiasm and a desire to excel and improve on every performance. The boys have worked wonderfully together supporting and encouraging one another. This team had the best bowling figures in the entire comp, taking 101 wickets for the season with most teams only taking 60 to 70 wickets for the year. Four times we had the opposition teams 18 or 19 wickets out in a game, but ran out of time and energy. Next year we will convert these to outright wins.

The biggest thrill we get is watching the kids celebrate as a team all coming together after taking a wicket in a huddle chanting “Who are we - we are Normo!” Many thanks to the kids for playing with such enthusiasm and spirit. This great season would not have happened if it was not for the parents who helped coach, score, and assist on Saturdays and just for coming along and supporting the boys.

The U11 Black Stars are:

Joshua Hayes (Captain ) - matured into the role of Captain, beginning to understand the tactics of field placement, of encouraging the team when the going got tough or leading from the front with his bat or when bowling. Highlight was watching him score his 50s when all other wickets were going cheap. 314 runs, 4 sixes, 42 fours, HS 56, av 78.5, 12 wickets for 83 runs, 11 catches and 5 run-outs.

Jordan Hayes - loves to keep wicket or talk the opposition to death. Always keen to support other team mates or lend a suggestion to his Captain. Bowling improved week after week with a nice smooth action. Great hitter of the ball and always looking to turn one run into three. Listen to your coach and your run total will explode. Watch this space – one day the Hayes brothers will argue for Australia! 166 runs, 19 fours, HS 56, av 27.7, 9 wickets for 97 runs, 3 catches and 4 run-outs.

Richard Crago (Vice-Captain) - any of his slip catches would have made it into Channel 9 Classic Catches - so unbelievable were his takes. He has worked hard on his bowling technique and now has a great in-swinger and pace that makes him a natural fast bowler. 118 runs, 13 fours, HS 41, av 16.9, 7 wickets for 144 runs and 9 catches.

Dominic Della Franca - still the happiest kid on the oval never without a smile with a signature straight drive flying past the bowler. Loves the chance to keep wicket and fall all over the place. A good close in fieldsman with a safe pair of hands. 65 runs, 1 six, 9 fours, HS 26, 1 wicket for 75 runs and 6 catches.

Ben Bishop - another smiler who really enjoys his cricket. A very elegant and skilful cricketer with many a four saved by the amount of ground he would cover and the trademark rocket return to assist in run outs. A great opening bowler with genuine speed and always made an impact. 14 runs, 2 fours, HS 11, 13 wickets for 71 runs, 4 catches and 5 run-outs.

Thomas Drum - good opening bowler with genuine speed and accuracy. Caused havoc with the opposition in our second game when six wickets fell in his three overs. A genuine fast bowler of the future and a great player of the ball off his pads. Another one at home behind the stumps. 11 runs, 1 four, HS 5, 9 wickets for 98 runs, 4 catches and 4 run-outs.

Daniel Anthonisz - really improved his bowling this year once he decided what type of bowler he was and which hand to use! Absolutely lives for batting and became a lot more confident at the crease. His more consistent bowling bamboozled the opposition. Always trained hard and had fun. While it did not happen often, his signature hook shot was a dream to watch. 25 runs, 3 fours, HS 11, 6 wickets for 104 runs and 1 catch.

Jordon Pollock - always gave his all with a great team spirit always encouraging his team mates. A nice high bowling action that has steadily improved during the course of the season. 2 runs, 6 wickets for 88 runs.

Lachlan Hodges - undoubtedly a Warnie of the future and his spin bowling caused mayhem among many an opposition team creating many opportunities for stumping and caught out on the boundary. Our secret weapon used in many matches for the breakthrough. Stylish batsman with all the shots. Great team player with a permanent smile and enjoyed his cricket. We encourage him to continue. 14 runs, 11 wickets for 117 runs, 1 catch and 1 run-out.

19 Thomas Walsh - really enjoyed wicket keeping and had a lot of fun doing it, always happy wherever he was fielding. Bowling technique steadily improved through the season and should progress to become a very intimidating fast bowler. 45 runs, HS 14, 2 wickets for 109 runs and 2 catches.

Lachlan Kelly - first year playing cricket, playing with a lot of enthusiasm and had fun. Always keen to train, listen and as a result noticeably improve each week. Good team player encouraging and praising his team-mates. We also encourage him to continue. 11 runs, HS 8 and 2 wickets for 108 runs.

Finn Spalding - started to develop as a player and his batting was just about to take off when he was stolen from us to go to a school in the North Shore, went straight into first grade. Down to the coaching of course. 50 runs, HS 26, 3 wickets for 64 runs and 1 catch.

Another great season for this talented team with eight wins and a loss before losing the semi to a strong KP team. As always a pleasure to coach , a joy to umpire , and a lot of fun at training [ however , being in competition for the first time we missed out on our usual fun season-ending training as we had a semi to deal with ].

But we had another great loss this year . Our manager of several years [and mostly scorer as well] ,Lady Carmel was tempted by the IPL in the Xmas transfer window and NWCC could not match the offer . Many thanks for all your hard work over the years LC.

During the season the boys managed to find themselves in three separate 1-2 battles and came out on top in all three so we went confidently into the semis but sadly our truly all round team suffered in the unrestricted semi which favoured the team of stars over the star team.

To see this team’s solidarity and support for each other in the field is to see cricket as it should be played [much like the famous NWCC C3 team of season 10/11]. The enthusiasm, celebration and 'talking up' is a real credit to the boys.

Here is a stat for the number crunchers: our wicketkeepers scored 856 runs this season and NWCC Players [Red and Black ] scored 13 of the 19 sixes hit in the comp . Looks good for our U12 T20 squad next year.

Firstly the wickies:. ROY [c] -led the runs with 210 @35 with some dynamic stroke play and took 6 catches and 1 runout .Great fieldsman with strong arm and great intuition .The apple doesn't fall far from the tree. HS 42*

20 PUNTER [ex AUS c] -larger than life itself this talented all -rounder could fill any role as required.151 runs @ 25 and 9 wickets @12.8. Much better than his dad or brothers. Loves D&M's with the coach .HS 42* PANTHER [Sadly lost late in the season to Barkerball] 145 runs @48 including 37* in the semi and one of our most economical bowlers . Speed over a short distance has to seen to be believed.HS 43* PHILTHY [Soon to be Watto ! AUS vc] Started the season as an opening bowler but ended the season as an opening bat.133 runs @ 22. Dedicated cricketer that may play with his coach next year.HS 35* HOLLYWOOD -Saved his best for any WPH team! Hates to travel to training. Fastest runner between wickets in the comp and 114 runs @19 with a HS 30* DOGGY - True all-rounder with brilliant agility in the field and one of the fastest bowlers in the comp. 103 runs @13 and 12 wickets @ 7.9 .Kept superbly .HS 33*

And now the non-wickies: LINKIN - first time cricketer who adapted quickly .100 runs @ 13 and picked up 4 wickets and a run-out. Told me he is Normo for life and hopes to move closer to the oval , HS 29 [twice] PUP [AUS c] - enthusiastic cricketer who continues to improve .Took 8 wickets @11 with his new-found pace attack. Grandfather played Test cricket for Croatia , and it shows. HS 25 FRENCH FRIES - Genuine quick swing bowling was the highlight of his season, the ball that got Fraser out was sent from heaven and ensured we finished on top of the ladder. 2 catches, a run-out and HS 15 STORM - 8 catches in the first 8 games before retiring to the IPL with his mum[ such loyalty! ]and giving someone else a chance to take the fielding honours .Sadly missed . 7 wickets @9.6 and HS 21*

And now the boys who saved their best for KP Red: STING - Big match performer who had his top score against BEE in 40 deg heat, and took half his wickets and his only catch v KP Red. Looking for a spot as an opener next season.HS 17* MiC'IVER - Hated KP Red , took all his wickets ,catches , and 2 run-outs against them. They won't forget his smiling face, asked for his nickname to include his coaches name [ captain material ] HS18*

And our famous import: HARRY [school vc ] a true doyen of the game where stats don’t do justice . All you can remember is that brilliant cover drive v WPH , the excitement of his first wicket [v KPRed !] and then that catch.....

Thanks again boys on behalf of all your supporters for some really entertaining and positive play, make sure your passports and medicals are updated for our pre-season trip to the Bangkok 6's .

What an enjoyable season 2010/2011 has been for the U12 Black team. Full of excitement, twists and turns, expected or unexpected, and all good fun.

The boys have been fantastic at training and during the game, showing respect to everyone - coach, manager and parents. They have really developed as a group of young cricketers and have everything to look forward to next year.

The season started with the loss of coach Callum due to work commitments. Ben simply put his hand up and this was very much appreciated. His cricketing experience proved to be so much help towards the boy’s development and skills improvement through the year.

From the boy’s perspective, the season proved to be a tough one, coming up against some quality opposition. However we could see their determination to succeed from Round 2 when they battled through their second innings, finishing with a wicket to spare and saving an outright.

Our fielding and bowling was fantastic, yet somehow we had to wait Round 5 for our first win. As we kept taking wicket after wicket (the team took the 5 th most wickets in the overall table), our batting started to pick up and we lost Round 7 by one single run. The disappointment was clear to see for everyone in the team. It was such a cruel blow.

We did not deserve to be where we finished. All the boys should feel really proud of their efforts throughout the season. They are all winners to us. Everyone had their moment of brilliance at one stage of the season, whether it was the batting stand that kept the runs rolling, or the shout of encouragement from the field, the brilliant catch at mid-on, the fantastic wicket keeping or simply the joke that cracked me up at training.... They all deserve a medal.

Our two wins in the Kimbo Cup were well deserved and showed how much progress the boys made in the year. One last thanks to all parents for the help they provided during the season with the scoring and umpiring.

Callum Slater – Turned the corner after the Christmas break with some wonderful batting, bowling and fielding performances. Keep it up for next year. Fabien Ringot – What a great first season of cricket. By the end of the season your bowling was a major strength for the team, particularly your ability to bowl very good in-swingers. Joel Hercus – As another first season player his batting, bowling and fielding really started to show him as a developing all round player. Keep up the good work over the winter. Josh Koshy – They say the stats don’t lie and so it is with Josh. His ability with the bat and the ball showed what a great all-rounder he is. (Bowling Award) Lucas McLagan – One of our demon spin bowlers who liked to give the ball plenty of air. Best bowling figures of 4/13 just missed being the team’s best bowling performance of the year. Luke Evans – What a great potential he has with the ability to spin the ball quite large distances. Keep up the good work over the winter. Manish Paida – Took on the role of opening the batting without fear and did so very well. He was particularly solid early in the season. Matt Hammond – The other opening batsman who was a batting rock, scoring a 50, a 41 and retiring “not out” on many occasions. His bowling was also wonderful claiming a hatrick against the other Normo team. (Batting Award)

22 Noah Binet – Had a great season with the bat and the ball, scoring runs every time he batted and ended the season with best bowling figures of 3/4. Pranav Patil – Had a great year with ball getting many of the opposing top batsman out with his accurate bowling. Team high best bowling figures of 4/11. Ray Takchi – Was the number one wicketkeeper for the team through the year developing his skills as the season progressed. In our final game he took three catches behind the wicket. He was also a very strong middle order batsman scoring runs every time he batted. Rishabh Khanna – Was our demon opening bowler striking fear into the opposing opening batsman. He was also a very good lower order batsman scoring many runs late in the innings. Sahil Kumar – Was a great player in the team always trying to perfect his batting and bowling. A number of good scores with the bat highlighted his confidence towards the end of the season.

The 2010/11 season began with many bad luck stories - a last ball loss in round 1, match being washed out by sprinklers left on all night, match washed out when we were in a commanding position, key players being injured or unavailable......

But the boys prevailed and to everyone’s delight stormed into the semi-finals with 2 outright wins in the last 3 matches. Well done boys on a great season where you played some great cricket in the spirit of the game like true sportsmen.

Alexander Murray-Jones MJ’s performance in his second year in the game was excellent. His enthusiasm and desire to be involved was infectious. It has been a real privilege seeing MJ grow into a very handy little cricketer. Well done mate.

Avneet Bhele An accomplished player who performed consistently with the bat, while his bowling improved as the season continued. Always ready to support and encourage his team mates, Avneet is growing into a fine tactician and leader of the game.

Brendon Plummer Brendon has been a new addition to the team this year and has improved markedly as the season progressed. His batting efforts over the last three games were outstanding while his bowling was solid. He has been a great contributor to the team and is turning into a fine young man.

Gurpreet Grewal Gurpreetis also new to the side this season and has had a great year. He has a menacing left arm bowling action that can take plenty of wickets. He will need to work on consistency to realise his potential. His enthusiasm has been exceptional. Harry Debney Harry has continued along in his merry way again this season. It has been fabulous watching his bowling improve and he has continued to take wickets on a regular basis. Well done Harry and keep up the good work. 23

Nicholas Bishop A naturally talented all round cricketer. He has had a great season behind the stumps taking some great catches and stumpings. His knowledge and love for the game is such that many a time he played a match for the school in the afternoon after playing for Normanhurst in the morning. Well done Nicholas.

Parthiv Subramanian Parthiv has continued to improve this season especially as a bowler. He will need to work on flight in his bowling action to realise the potential that is there. It has been fantastic having him as part of the team and I hope he continues with his cricket into the future.

Luke Harris Luke was a new member to the team this season. He came to the team with limited cricketing experience and improved as the season progressed. His bowling became an effective contribution to the team as he took wickets and grew in confidence especially toward the end of the season. Well done Luke!

Phillip Garling Phil has grown into a well rounded and competent cricketer. His bowling action has changed and this has seen him take wickets this season. He is a great team member who is always encouraging of his mates.

Quentin Cheng Quentin has again proved to be a constant contributor to the team over the season. His bowling has continued to be effective with a good line and length and his batting has been also good. Well done mate!

Sahil Sharma Sahil was a late addition to the team this season. However what an addition he was - contributing with both the bat and ball regularly. He was extremely polite and would do anything for the team – a fantastic asset. Well done Sahil!

Sean Connell Sean had another brilliant season. He took wickets regularly with a 5 wicket haul in the Semi- final – a great effort. His batting also improved with some good starts during the season. He was a great contributor to the team.

Shubhang Hariharan Shubhang has been a wonderful member of the team for a long time. His batting was again of the finest order however the move in schools meant that we did not see him much once the new school year commenced. His bowling was always spot on making it difficult for the opposition to score off. A fine young man and a cricketer of the future.

William Dunn William was a new member to the team in season 2010/11. His enthusiasm for the game and his willingness to listen and to learn were impressive. His bowling improved out of sight throughout the season and saw him taking wickets regularly at the end of the season. Well done William!

Undefeated Premiers This is the third premiership in a row for this very impressive playing group. The success of this team is based on the boys (and parents) leaving their egos at home and putting the team first. The boys have learned that by listening, training hard and contesting every ball, success will follow. They have also maintained very high standards in the way they support each other on and off the field and respect umpires and opponents.

Once again thanks to the parents, family and friends who came along to support the boys in such a knowledgeable and low key way - your sons are a credit to you. Many thanks also to all the parents who helped out, especially super scorer Anit, Richard and Gurjit. It was greatly appreciated. Well done boys on a fantastic season.

Hayden “Haydos” Goddard – Missed a few games this year due to weddings, birthdays and the school of hard Knox. Haydos gets better and better every season and will be sorely missed. Sob, sniff, sob. [57 runs @ 22.33, H.S. 30 and 4 wickets at 22.25, B.B. 1-4, 3 catches]

Harrison “Mr Cricket” Gregor – Collingwood’s AFL success meant that Mr Cricket was forced to travel to Melbourne three Saturdays straight. Bowled beautifully all season and was always ready to have a bat. Rumoured to be supporting GWS next season. [20 runs @ 5.00, H.S. 7no and 11 wickets at 7.27, B.B. 3-3, 6 catches, 2 run outs]

Justin “Time” Hardy – A big improver this season with bat, ball and gloves. Notched up a fantastic 60 rtno against KUH and took the key KUH wicket in the semi-final. The more he practices the better he gets. Keep it real old school Juz to the z.[114 runs @ 19.00, H.S. 60no and 3 wickets at 24.67, B.B. 1-7, 1 catch, 2 wk catches and 1 run out].

“Sir” Hughbert Harrington – Season started late due to a broken arm that resulted in a team skateboard/scooter ban during the finals. Came back and improved every game providing some much needed starch to the middle order. Ground out a match winning 49 run partnership with the Biebarian in the semi-final. Well done Sir. [32 runs @ 10.67, H.S. 17, 3 wickets @ 12.0, B.B. 2-3 and 3 catches]

Matthew “Croc” Hunter – Another season of improvement for the Croc who can really trouble batsmen with his pace and swing when he pitches the ball up. Matured as a “team player” this season and with a bit more patience he should score more runs next season. [49 runs @ 5.44, H.S. 19no, 6 wickets @ 15.33, B.B. 2-10, 1 catch and 1 stumping]

Anthony “Anto” Johnston – A terrific season with the bat and ball….a hero of the team, especially to the coach. [259 runs @ 37.00, H.S. 65, 16 wickets @ 5.56, B.B. 4-15, 2 catches, 7 wk catches and 1 run out]

Kush “the Baby Faced Assassin” Kundra – Another big season from the baby faced assassin who carved up most team’s bowling attacks. A versatile bowler, Kush also made some stunning saves in the field at point. Awarded the match ball after a man of the match performance in the GF. Special. [372 runs @ 62.00, H.S. 66no, 6 wickets @ 13.17, B.B. 3-15, 3 catches and 1 run out]

Conor “the Beibarian” Laidlaw – This Justin Beiber look-a-like was unlucky not to notch up his maiden 50 (twice). Opened the bowling all season and was very unlucky not to take another dozen wickets, some near misses had him singing out “baby, baby, baby ohh” and “baby, baby, baby noo”. Took some great catches too, including a screamer in the final. [139 runs @ 17.38, H.S. 45, 7 wickets @ 16.71, B.B. 2-29, 6 catches and 1 run out]

25 Etash “Tashi” Pandhi – Great competitor, who opened the bowling, took lots of top order wickets for not many runs and snaffled some sharp catches. A great team player whose batting continues to improve. Enjoys hanging with the Beibarian. Marvellous! [68 runs @ 17.0, H.S. 18no and 16 wickets @ 6.06, B.B. 3-2, 3 catches]

Sid “Deuce” Satheeshkumar –Bowling really improved and he would often be called in to clean up the opposition tail. Looking forward to Sid working on his batting for next season. [14 runs @ 3.5, H.S. 8no and 6 wickets @ 11.50, B.B. 2-4, 2 catches, 1 run out]

Eknoor “Eko” Singh – A fantastic all-round season from Eko (have a look at his stats) who really matured as a cricketer.[304 runs @ 40.50, H.S. 71no, 11 wickets @ 9.45, B.B. 2-8, 5 catches, 4 wk catches, 2 stumpings and 1 run out]

“Nifty” Nick Wilson – An exciting, hard hitting, lower order batsman. Denied a 50 against Redfield in what was a valuable 49 and scored a vital 20 in the semi-final. Worried batsmen all year with his medium pace and variation. Lost a tooth but took a great catch in the final. Well done laddie. [158 runs @ 17.56, H.S. 49, 9 wickets @ 8.89, B.B. 2-1, 1 catch and 1 run out]

Varzan “Tarzan” Zandbaf – Made the transition this season from swinging through the jungle and wrestling lions to cricket. A real chatterbox on and off the field who took a remarkable catch against Penno. Put his body on the line breaking bones in the process and always did his best. Throughout the course of the year I have seen many displays of skill, ability and sportsmanship from this group of boys that have impressed me both as a coach and as a player. Although the team as a whole suffered many nail-biting defeats and came so close to what would have been huge wins, individual performances that exemplified the huge improvement across the board from many team members were in abundance.

Examples include the spectacular effort of 95* by Tom Xavier against Hornsby-Thornleigh, the hat-trick against Upper Hills by Josh Marshall and end of year figures of 10-117 by Oliver Fisher . This improvement on last year’s efforts was across the entire team, with every player improving on his game in some way.

Thank you again to all the parents who helped me with training, umpiring, scoring, watermelon provisions, you name it. It is great to see when parents are involved and it makes the experience for all so much more enjoyable. For the second year in a row it has been a pleasure and a privilege to coach such a great bunch of guys, and I look forward to next year!

David Braithwaite: Though his early season was interrupted by a leg injury caused by the coach, Dave recovered to put in some great performances with the ball. His 0-16 off 6 overs against Berowra, though going wicket less, put huge pressure on the batsmen who found him difficult to score against. His 2-33 playing Kissing Point showed that his swing bowling is a great benefit to the team. A highlight for Dave would be his catch against Berowra, caught in one finger of his bootlaces triggering a collapse to set up a big win.

Oliver Fisher: A truly stellar year for Ollie. As the highest wicket-taker this season, Ollie’s hard work throughout the year paid off. Ollie took 10 wickets at an average of 11.7 with the amazing strike rate of just 14.5. Ollie abilities with the bat also improved, retiring with 22*. Ollie’s improvements this year have been one of the highlights for the entire season, improvements he should be proud of.

Pat Grigg: A great year of improvement for “Sarge” with his bowling and fielding. With the ball, his 3-24 against WPH-Red was a great performance against a strong team, his economy rate of just 2.8 made him one of the most economical bowlers in the team. Though unlucky with the bat, his swashbuckling performance in the Kimbo Cup gave a glimpse of what I trust shall be a more common occurrence next season. Occupying the important cover position, Pat improved out of sight with his fielding, establishing himself as one of the team’s best with his diving saves.

Tobias Hilton: Though injury caused Toby to miss a few games, his improvement with bat, ball and in the field was evident. With the ball Toby’s control and accuracy improved out of sight, with his stumping of perhaps the best batsmen in the competition a true highlight. Toby also showed his ability with the bat, with his innings during the last game showing his hard work at practice on the field. As a fielder, Toby has shown immense improvement, with his dedication in the field an example to all.

Dylan Hood: Although juggling school cricketing commitments, Dylan was still able to impact the team whenever present. His bowling was a standout, showing great control and skill, netting him a tiny average of just 8.7 runs per wicket. While his batting struggled, his ability to keep wicket and field with great ability of a high standard. His three stumpings this year proved his class behind the wicket.

Angus MacDonald: A keen cricketer no matter the circumstance, Gus is a great competitor. His bowling was again a great asset to the team, consistently taking wickets throughout the season. His batting improved again on last year, with his role in unlucky loss against KP nearly getting us over the line. A huge improvement in fielding this season, saving the team runs and placing pressure on opposing batsmen. 27

Josh Marshall: Josh’s all-round ability makes him a valuable player. Scoring 186 runs at an average of 26.6, an ability to demolish teams with his pace bowling as seen through his 4-8 against Upper Hills as well as his valuable keeping and fielding, Josh’s abilities this year have improved considerably. His batting was the most evident, with twin fifties against Thornleigh- Hornsby and Berowra showcasing his true skill with the willow. After a stellar season, I look forward to what next year will bring.

Luke McDonald: Another solid year for Luke saw some great performances with both bat and ball. His 65*, scored while opening the batting was a highlight for the entire team, featuring 12 boundaries! It is not often that you see a batsman “carry his bat” so congratulations to Luke. His bowling continued still to frustrate opposing bowlers, his 3-23 against Berowra a standout. As a wicketkeeper, Luke improved hugely against all types of bowling.

Ben Reidy: Without a doubt the bowling workhorse for the entire year, bowling a massive 51 overs for the season, including 15 maidens. Ben’s bowling was constantly reliable and his line and length spot-on, showing that pace is not a necessity for great bowling. His 3-15 against Berowra was a standout guiding us to our big win of the season. His role with the ball was invaluable this year. A keen player and a constant improver, Ben’s input to the team in all areas should be congratulated.

Chris Smith: As the new team captain, Chris performed very well in what can be an enormously tricky role. Though at times frustrated by some questionable decisions and what seemed to be no luck, Chris’ persistence saw his game improve nonetheless. Though the runs did not come as thick and as fast as years previous, his 32 in an 89 run opening stand was a reminder of his skill and class. A reliable spinner and an exceptional fielder, Chris was an important part of the team in all areas.

Pat Song: Pat’s dedication and consistency are a true representation of his work ethic. Just falling short of top wicket taker, Pat snared 9 batsmen throughout the year, with his 3-12 against WPH-White putting him on a hat trick that took almost two months before the 3 rd ball was bowled! His batting also gave great solidity to some innings; with his input in a 1 st innings stand of 39 getting us off to a great start against Kissing Point. Another huge improvement in fielding, with his safe hands netting him 5 catches.

Jack Woodrow: Although new to the team, Jack quickly asserted himself as both an opening batsmen and bowler. With the bat, his 50 against Berowra (and his first) was perhaps the most aggressive innings of the year. As a bowler, Jack’s ability to intimidate and yet bowl consistently was not reflected in his figures; his economy rate, sitting at a measly 2.1, showed his control with the ball. After being taught how to bowl bouncers, Jack enjoyed treating his opposition with a few beauties throughout the year.

Thomas Xavier: Despite injuries, Tom was the rock that anchored much of our batting for the year, scoring 286 at an average of 57.2. His 66 against Berowra set up one our big wins, and his 95* was an innings that deserved to reach three-figures. A reliable bowler and fielder, Tom can always be counted on to give his best on the field whether batting, bowling or fielding.

Josiah Binet: Jos was a consistent performer this year. He took 10 wickets at an average of 9.8 and the best bowling figures of 3/16 in the final v Castle Hill. Although not as successful with the bat, he combined with Matt Corish to rip the heart out of Hornsby with an entertaining 9th wicket stand of 36 runs. Jos was part of the leadership group this year and helped Matt with his captaincy duties.

Matt Corish (c): Matty was a key performer this year, amassing 310 runs at the impressive average of 34.4. He also performed well with the ball, picking up 13 wickets at an average of 8.9 and the best bowling figures of 3/9. Matt stood up in the big games, as shown with 75* in the semi final against Hornsby and a key wicket in the final. He has lead from the front this year and has deserved the success that has come his way.

Taylor Davies: Tubs played brilliantly this year in his first year in this age group. He batted, bowled and kept and did well in all of them. He knocked up 253 runs in U14s at an average of 25 and a highest score of 60. Due to his regular keeping duties, he was unable to bowl often, however his occasional stints often produced edges and pressure. As keeper, Taylor had 2 catches, 2 run outs and a massive 5 stumpings off the spinners. As well as this, Tubs also filled in for the under 15s when they needed replacements. A great year Tubby.

Lachy Dixon: Lachy had a great year this year, improving on his performances from last year. He had a solid year with the bat, racking up a half-century of runs with an average of 8.5, however his key areas were in the field, taking 6 wickets at an average of 16 and taking 5 catches in the infield, including a screamer at mid-off in round 5 and a great take in the grand final.

Hamish Fullagar: Hame had a phenomenal year and was one of the standout players in the team. He scored 205 runs for the year at an average of 22.8 with a highest score of 47. He was one of the team’s keepers, taking 4 catches, assisting in 2 run-outs and taking a stumping as well. Despite bowling just 38 overs, Hame finished 5 th in the district for wickets, with 16 at an average of just 5.5, as well as filling in for the 15s when required. Hame had a great year and deserved his successes.

Ben Griffiths: Ben had a good year in his first year playing at this age group after previously playing the year above. Benny scored 140 runs at an average of 17.5 and a top score of 45. As opening bowler, he took 6 wickets at an average of 15 and conceded a miserly rate of 2 runs an over, regularly getting us off to a great start. Hope to see you next year Ben!

Jack Hammond: Jack impressed everyone with his performances this year. As a key figure in the middle order, Jacko scored 227 runs at 28.4 with a top score of 50. One of the fastest bowlers in the district, when Jack got firing he was a sight to see. He picked up 4 wickets with the great best bowling figures of 3-2, as well as scaring countless batsmen out of the skins. He also chipped in with 9 catches for the year. A great all-round effort.

Tom Howie: Tommy performed well in his debut season for Normo, scoring 54 runs for the year @ 10.8. He also chipped in with his handy medium-pacers, taking 4 wickets and piling pressure on the opposition whenever he came on. A great assisted run out in round 2 and tidy fielding contributed to the team’s success. We hope he comes back next year for another shot. Great effort Tommy!

Ben Jones: Benny had a top season with both bat and ball in his first year as a Normo player. He scored 174 runs for the year at the top of the order at an average of 15.8 and a top score of 37. He finished second in the wickets tally for the entire competition, with 17 wickets bowling leggies at an average of 8 and the brilliant best bowling figures of 4/3. He also contributed with 6 catches in the gully region. A fabulous year Ben! 29 Gus McAllister: Despite only playing a few games this year due to school duties, Gus had a good year in his first for Normo. With his solid batting technique he chipped in on numerous occasions with partnerships that we needed them most, such as a 40 run partnership with Tubs against Castle Hill. His tight, economical bowling applied pressure whenever he came on, and he was always keen for a bowl. A great year Gussy!

Jamison Sexty: Jamo had his best year yet in Normo colours, finishing 4 th in the comp for wickets taken. He secured 16 at an average of 7.9 and the best bowling figures of 3/11. In the final, Jamison took 2 wickets for 15, breaking a crucial partnership and closing out the match. With the bat, he always entertained with quick runs at the end of the innings and, as well, picked up 4 catches in the slips. A brilliant effort Jam!

Aditya Sheorayan: Aditya has improved beyond sight this season. Chipping in with runs when required, he frustrated opponents with his quick singles. However, his strength was in his bowling, with 9 wickets at an average of 12.1 bowling his nippy left-armers. He also picked up a catch and a run-out to complete his stats. A great year and Aditya and we really hope to see you playing for us next year.

Ben Wallwood: Another new addition to the team, Benny shone at the top of the order. He scored 275 runs in the opening position for the U14s, including an innings of 68 in the final to contribute a third of the team’s total. His occasional bowling stints produced a lot of edges and misses, but in the end he picked up 3 wickets at an average of 17 and an economy rate of 2.3. As a part-time keeper and regular slips fieldsman, he picked up 4 catches, a run-out and a stumping. As well as this, he also filled in for the under 15s on occasions. A great year Ben!

The U/15’s team had another good season making it through to the Semi-finals where they were narrowly defeated by Mount Colah. The team’s biggest challenge this season was fielding a full team, with only 8 permanent team members due to private school cricket commitments by the balance of the team. Thankfully, we had great support from the other Normo teams. A special mention to Taylor Davies, Ben Wallwood and Hamish Fullagar from the U/14’s and Anthony Johnston and Kush Kundra from the U/13’s who filled in for us at various stages of the season, all contributing with excellent performances when playing for our side.

Aidan Barac-Dunn had his first season with Normo. Aidan attended every training session and played in every game. His improvement throughout the season was a feature of the team’s performance and evident in some of our results at the back-end of the season, where Aidan played some mature knocks with the bat and took crucial wickets. His fielding also improved taking some good catches at critical times. Overall, Aidan took 8 wickets this season at an average of 9 with best figures of 3-2 from 3 overs in Round 1.

Oscar Cole was only able to play in two games due to school cricket commitments. However, he contributed by taking 2 wickets. He also represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/14 Presidents Cup.

Will Johnston improved his batting this season with an aggregate of 369 and a top score 73 in a 188 run 2 nd wicket stand against West Pennant Hills in Round 8. Will also top scored in the semi final with 68. Will took 6 wickets this season and 4 catches. Will attended training each week and represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/15 Presidents Cup with great distinction.

Kartik Kundra is a long serving player at the club and always gives 100 per cent at training and on match day. Kartik’s bowling continues to improve each year. He bowled with a great economy rate and took 13 important wickets. Not a lot of opportunity to bat but when he did he added some crucial runs with a high score of 16NO. He also represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/15 Presidents Cup.

Krishna Logendran had a challenging year due to injury, playing on a number of occasions to support the team despite injury. This hindered his personal performances and the team missed Krishna’s ability to bowl fast and take early wickets in a number of games. Over the season, Krishna took 5 wickets and scored 63 runs. Krishna bowled very tight when he was able to play and also represented Northern Districts in AW Green Shield and also HKHDCA Northern Knights premiers in the Weblin Shield this season. Hopefully next season injury free, he can be back to his best.

Jack Miller was only available for five games this year due to school cricket. Jack scored 141 runs, avg. 141 and a top score of 52NO in an unbroken century 1 st wicket partnership against Mount Colah. He also took 3 wickets at an avg. of 12. Jack represented North Sydney in the AW Green Shield this year and captained the U/15 Presidents Cup for HKHDCA.

Cameron Mitrovich was a crucial member of the team in his first year at Normo. Opening the bowling in most games, Cameron took early wickets and showed the way for the rest of the bowlers. Cam took 9 wickets with best bowling figures of 3/50. He also had some very crucial innings with the bat, willing to bat wherever need which included opening in a few games. He scored 57 runs with a high score of 18. Good season considering his back Injury! He also represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/15 Presidents Cup. Cameron is an outstanding team man and a real asset to any cricket team.

31

Tanveer Mokha was unable to play after Christmas due to school cricket however made a return for the Semi-Final. Scored some crucial runs with a high score of 15 and took a couple of handy wickets. Was always willing to field anywhere and always gave 100percent.

Daniel Nicotra had a great year and represents the club with distinction in all aspects of the game. He is always positive with his captaincy and leads the team by example regardless of the “cards he is dealt”. In addition to his leadership and attitude, Dan had an outstanding year in the middle. With the bat he scored 536 runs at an average of 48, and with the ball took 14 wickets at 14 as well as taking numerous outstanding catches. In addition, Dan was a key member of the Northern Knights successful Webin Shield side and also the North Sydney AW Green Shield which made the Semi Finals of that competition. Dan is a credit to the club.

Kurtis O’Brien had a great season with the ball and was one of our strike bowlers. Topping the wicket tally with 15 at a great average of 13. Kurtis was instrumental in our success taking wickets at crucial times. Kurtis has worked hard at improving his batting and despite limited opportunities he improved his batting steadily throughout the season with a high score of 18 and avg. 14. He also represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/15 Presidents Cup taking critical wickets in most games and with one outstanding performance at the Central Coast.

David O’Sullivan proved to be a crucial team member this year when available. He showed his ability to hit the ball hard scoring 217 runs with a high score of 85 in Round 2 against Hornsby. Also in a 119 run stand for the 3 rd wicket in this match. David also took 3 wickets this season when given the opportunity to have a bowl. Good Season David!

Ryan O’Sullivan was unable to play as many games as we would have hoped due illness and school cricket. Opening the batting when available, Ryan scored 243 runs at an avg. 60 with a high score of 90 vs West Pennant Hills Green. There is no doubt with more cricket Ryan would have scored many more runs. As the team’s wicket keeper Ryan took 5 catches and a solid stumping. Ryan is an excellent wicketkeeper letting through minimal byes each game and taking a classic catch in the Semi-Final which you may see on KFC classic catches next summer.

Andries Van Woerkom was only able to play in two games due to school cricket. Andries took 3 wickets in the games where he was available. He also represented HKHDCA Northern Knights in the U/15 Presidents Cup.

32 UNDER 16 In their last year of junior cricket the highly talented Normanhurst Under 16’s side went out with a bang claiming the NSW title and progressing through the regular season losing only one match before crashing out in the semi finals. Despite this unfortunate ending to the season there were many memorable performances that the boys and all involved will remember for years to come.

Captain Mitch Fullagar led from the front, holding the middle order with the bat (199 runs @ 28.4) and also reinventing himself as a left arm spinner, taking 10 wickets and deserving many more. One of Mitch’s most memorable performances was his 48* in the T20 final, capped off with a 6 straight down the ground on the final ball of the innings.

James Austin proved a handy addition to the team partway through the season. James’ highlight would no doubt be his 26* in the final round, featuring some fearless hitting, entertaining all who were present. James’ energetic fielding throughout the season was also a real asset to the team.

Tim Blunt shared the gloves in the longer form of the game and kept with distinction throughout, as well as making several key contributions with the bat when given the chance.

Chris Bourke (191 runs @ 27.3) and Matt Briscoe (227 runs @ 32.4) were outstanding at the top of the order, both scoring consistently and providing a platform for the powerful middle order to capitalise on. Although Briscoe once achieved the unwanted feat of a diamond duck, rarely was the middle order ever vulnerable early. Briscoe also kept all season achieving moments of brilliance and holding a high standard. Chris also contributed heavily with the ball and displayed a strong sense of line and length throughout the year, chipping in with 6 wickets which could have easily been a lot more.

Michael Bradley and Nick Fullagar both bowled strongly during the middle overs and held the lower middle order of the batting. Michael’s spin bowling continued to develop throughout the year and shows strong potential for the future. Nick developed into a key partnership-breaking bowler, finishing with an admirable 13 wickets for the season and produced an outstanding performance in the T20 final, retuning 1/6 off 2 overs.

Rajiv Chandrasena provided one of the season highlights with a magical 198* and was deserving of a rare 200. Raj was a star with the bat (469 runs @ 93.8) and also contributed strongly with the ball (20 wickets), leading the team with strong performances and powerful hitting.

David O’Connor was a key figure in the bowling attack, using his pace and bounce to rattle opponents and ensuring the early overs of each innings were fraught with danger for the opposition batsmen. Although sporadic at times, it added to the excitement of DOC’s bowling. DOC is a true team player, exhibited most memorably when he did everything he could to give Raj the strike to see him to a double century.

Tomlin Poynton was a team member all the boys enjoyed playing with, always keen for a laugh. Tomlin made valuable contributions with bat, ball and in the field and brought a fantastic attitude to his cricket.

Utkarsh Somaiya starred with the new ball, using his swing to take early wickets. Utti finished the season with 15 wickets and also performed admirably with the bat, scoring 150 runs @ 25.00. In the field, Utti’s excellent ground fielding and catches lifted to new heights on many occasions.

33

Harry Middlebrook bolstered the bowling attack when released from school duties, terrifying the opposition despite playing up an age group. Similarly Luke Thorburn showed his class when not playing for Oakhill 1 st XI, scoring 207 runs @ 51.8 in only 4 innings which featured two 90’s.

Credit must also go to Nathan Tanner and Ben Phillips who despite commitments to several other teams made the effort to play U/16’s when possible and starred in the Twenty20 competition. Nathan and Ben made some fantastic achievements in their cricketing careers this season and we are very excited about what the future holds for these two immensely talented cricketers.

Finally, thanks to the parents for umpiring, scoring, chauffeuring, catering and supporting the boys this season, it is greatly appreciated.

The boys had a lot of fun with a great bunch of friends this season and we hope they all continue into seniors cricket with the same attitude towards the game and each other.

34 CRICKET NSW WEET-BIX TWENTY20 CUP The Weet-Bix Twenty20 Cup Series aims to encourage enjoyment, maximum participation and spectator appeal whilst allowing players to develop their cricket skills, knowledge and instinct based on the preface that Twenty20 Cricket is fast, different and can be used as an effective alternative to training. 106 teams entered this year’s competition in the U/12, U/14 and U/16 divisions with over 220 games completed to decide the finalists.

A good ol’ thumping of Kissing Point saw the boys’ campaign off to a flyer (and lots of dads with big smiles on their faces). The momentum was maintained with a big win over Mt Colah but a forfeit by Pittwater and the unavailability of Rishabh and Justin left the boys a bit underdone for the big regional semi-final against Epping District.

After bowling and fielding well and restricting Epping to 92 the boys were bundled out for 54. A disappointing result to finish but the boys should be proud of their efforts as they entertained us with some exhilarating cricket that was always played in the right spirit. With four of the boys able to play U12s T20 again next season the clubs T20 future in this age group is in good hands. Many thanks too to all the parents for their support and help.

The Normanhurst-Warrawee U/16 team are the State Twenty20 champions after defeating the Campbelltown Magpies in the Final of the Cricket NSW Weet-Bix T20 competition at the SCG on Sunday, 6 March 2011. The boys marvelled at the historic dressing rooms and enjoyed mixing it with Doug Bollinger, Usman Khawaja and Dominic Thornely. Captain Mitch Fullagar won the toss and electing to bat first. Ben Phillips (50 retired) and Raj Chandrasena (30) combined for a classy 62 run second-wicket partnership, which was followed by a brilliant 48 no from captain Mitch Fullagar, including a six off the last ball of the innings. Normanhurst posted the imposing total of 3/144, which would be hard to beat. Normo came out firing with a fierce spell by opener Nathan Tanner (1/12 off 4 overs). Medium pace bowlers Nick Fullagar (1/6) and David O’Connor (1/12) kept the runs down and Benny chipped in with 2 wickets to earn Man of Match honours. The Campbelltown Magpies fought bravely in their run chase however finished 24 runs short on 6/120. This was a great team effort, guided by young coaches Matt Nelson and Matt Pendleton and managed by Richard Briscoe.

38 SENIOR TEAM REPORTS

A Grade This year saw the return of NWCC to the A Grade competition after a 12 month absence. Our very youthful team included many of last year’s Colts Premiership side, namely Matt Nelson, Daniel Wood, Tom Cole, James Brackin, Glen Holden and Murray Watts; the return of some former Normo juniors, Steve Smith, Rob Waight, Mitch Thorburn, Michael Brown, Joel Carter and Sol Tomlinson, as well as a couple of new recruits, Tom Williamson and Rob Dowdy. Two Normo hard-heads, Craig Hodges and Chris Hawkins, also returned to give the team some vital experience, however unfortunately they couldn’t play every week. Although a very new team, our season got off to a great start, winning the inaugural HK&HDCA T/20 A Grade title. After smashing last year’s undefeated premiers ARL in the T/20 semi-final, we faced CHRSL in the Final. This match was always in our hands after we won the toss and posted 7/152 off our 20 overs, led by Steve Smith 53 and Craig Hodges 42. We then restricted Castle Hill to 7/98, with Muz Watts claiming 4/22. One of the highlights in the field was James Brackin’s brilliant catch at point, diving to remove Castle Hill’s danger man Mick Hungerford in Daniel Wood’s first over. The T/20 format of the game aligns with our strengths of energy and agility in the field and big hitting with the bat. This victory gave us confidence to give the main A Grade comp a real crack.

After an excellent start to the season in the T/20 comp, we struggled to get our strongest team on the park and this affected our consistency. We had some great performances including scoring 213 against St Ives in a one-day game for our 1st win of the season, with terrific individual performances from Joel Carter 65 and Sol Tomlinson 6/38. We also recorded another victory over ARL after losing outright to them in the 1st round. Individual highlights for the season included: • Tom Williamson’s 1st wicket in A Grade, the best caught and bowled you will ever see, to remove former Sri Lankan Test batsman Russel Arnold for a duck. • Sol Tomlinson’s 6/38 vs St Ives. • Craig Hodges 102 vs ARL. • Tom Williamson’s 5/10 including a hat-trick vs Hornsby. • Steve Smith’s 100 against Kenthurst in the last round. This year was a big learning experience for a very young team, with the average age being close to 20. The lack of consistency resulted in us finishing a disappointing 6 th , although it could have been much better. A big thank you goes to Bruce Wood for firstly getting this year’s team up and running and helping me get a team on the park every week. Also thanks to Matt Pendleton A2’s skipper who regularly came to the rescue to provide players often to the cost of A2’s.

A Reserve Team: Matt Pendleton (c), Tom Foreman, Cam Riddett, Al Martyn, John Herdman, Tom Green, Brett Turpin, Jason Maxworthy, Brett Salisbury, Ed Sowden, Braden Cheng, Tom Cole, Rob Magrath, Alex Whild, Michael Brown, Joel Carter, Will Johnson From the dizzying heights of first place at the Christmas break, the Normo A Reserve side somehow managed to fail to make the semis come March, in what was a hit and miss season for the lads. The ever changing line-up played some quality cricket throughout the season but rued many missed opportunities to go down in some very tight encounters. Nonetheless, it was a very enjoyable season for all involved with all players contributing in some way throughout the season. Highlights included: • An outright victory by an innings and 85 runs over eventual premiers Berowra in Round 2. The standout performers were Jason Maxworthy, taking 5/8 (5) in the first innings, and Brett Turpin’s explosive 76 which featured 10 fours and a six. • The only century for the season was scored by Joel Carter in Round 3 against the passionate Wahroonga Bladerunners. After being put in for outright, Joel volunteered to open the batting, blasting 100 not out, to have the score at 0/137 off only 18.5 overs batting with youngster Utkarsh Somaiya. At this point the Bladerunners thought it was about time to go home. • A spirited performance against West Penno in Round 5. With an abundance of players unavailable or playing A grade, the A2’s managed to scrap together 11 players, only to have injury reduce the side to 9 mid-way through the first day. Despite this, Normo were still able to compete with the defending premiers. Stand-outs were Cam Riddett’s 5/39 (13) and Al Martyn’s 90 which were almost enough to scrape a victory, but Normo fell just shy of a heroic win. • One of the greatest finds in history was that of Alex Whild, joining the team in Round 11. In his debut performance, Whildy took 3/5 (4) and deserved even more in what was an absolutely unplayable spell of bowling. • Doing his juniors coach a favour, Mitch Fullagar filled in for the team in Round 12 and played one of the innings of the season. With the team in trouble at 6/119, Mitch struck an impressive 65, featuring 8 fours and a six, showing his class and potential of things to come. • John Herdman was the most consistent bat all season, with his third 50 and highest score for the season coming in the final round against Galston Glenorie. Despite finding runs hard to come by and a barrage of sledging from his mates from GG, Jonty managed to scrap out 89 against a strong bowling attack. It may not have been one of his most memorable innings but he showed just what can happen when you value your wicket and work hard every ball. It may have not been the season we were hoping for but for a group of players who had never played together before it was not a bad effort and was certainly an enjoyable season. Thanks to the multitude of players who filled in throughout the season, a total of 43 players were used over the 14 rounds. Looking forward to what next season will bring in a new format A2’s/Colts comp in 2011-12! Matt Pendleton – Captain Bowling Award: Cam Riddett (17 wickets @ 14.53) Batting Award: John Herdman (268 runs @ 26.80) All Rounders Award: Brett Turpin (17 wickets @ 17.94, 179 runs @ 17.90)

41 Colts – Grand Finalists The Colts comprised: Cameron Griffin (Captain), Mitch Davidson, Lindsay Haertsch, Mitch Fullagar, Rajiv Chandrasena, Stuart Hastings, Mathew Nelson, Mike Griffin (President), Chris Bourke, Matt Briscoe, Jake Hobbs, James Blair, Tim Whiting and Tom Fitzgibbon. The Colts teamed had an action packed season this year, being runners up to what was the final Colts competition for HK&HDCA. Only two regulars were retained from last year’s premiership winning Colts team (Matt Nelson and Cameron Griffin), so a huge re-fit was needed to ensure this team kept to the standards of the previous years. Neither the less, after many late Friday night’s salvaging for a team, the final Colts team was put together. Our season was fun packed, action packed, and Mitch Davidson packed full of joy. Never have any of us boys seen a 6 foot 3 giant charging in at 100,000 kilometres an hour, sunnies intact, eyes set on the task, to bowl a ball then stop, stand, and deliver what is known to be the most dreadful death stare ever to been seen in a Normo outfit. Season highlights for Colts 2010/2011: • Jake Hobbs snatching 2 full length diving catches against Hornsby. • Rajiv being the savour for every Colts batting order collapse (excluding the GF). He would come in at 3 or 4, the top order will then collapse and Rajiv would still hit sixes. Having scored multiple 50’s throughout the season, Rajiv helped us to come back from the deepness of a collapse to be in a position which got us to the finals. • Chris Bourke missing out an hour of the 20/20 16’s comp to help us out when we were short players, showed to us how dedicated he was to the team and to his mates. • Mitch Davidson… • Mitch Fullagar’s catch on the boundary against Hornsby. The batsmen sky-rocketed the ball into the deep and out of nowhere Mitch runs, slides and snatches a classic catch. • James Blair’s rocket like fielding and catches. • Mike & Cameron Griffin’s winning partnership against Kenthurst at Turramurra oval. • Stuart Hastings 82 in R2 v Berowra White and his tireless support of his team mates. • Nelso’s 2 Ducks in the Finals!!! But seriously your pep talks and fielding were superb. • Lindsay Haertsch’s fantastic bowling attack and razor sharp fielding. • Mitch Fullagar’s 45 in the GF was gutsy and full of determination. • Cameron Griffin’s Century v Hornsby 106 off 45 balls 11 December 2010. Special thanks must go out to all the people that helped us through the season whenever we were short players; Mathew Pendleton, Tom Williamson and Murray Watts. Also a special thanks to the parents who attended matches and supported us during the season – Sue Haertsch, Greg Bourke, Andrew & Lindley Fullagar, Tim Davidson, Richard Briscoe, Ranjan Chandrasena, Lauren Blair (nee Hobbs) and Graham Hobbs. Also thanks to Dad (Mike Griffin) for supporting me all season and managing the Team. It was a pleasure to be Colts captain this year as I learnt a lot about cricket, and a lot about the up and coming players of Normanhurst. The boys showed a great attitude and love towards the game this season, so I’m sure that all A-grade selectors for the next Normo A Grade team will be keeping a fast eye on these boys over the next couple of years. Cameron Griffin – Captain Batting Award Rajiv Chandrasena (468 runs @ 45.6) Bowling Award Lindsay Haertsch (23 wickets @ 15.2) Captain’s Award Mitch Davidson (Total commitment and effort)

42 B Reserve – Grand Finalists Someone once asked me, what kind of hat am I wearing? I said I didn’t know. As it turns out he was likely wearing a Homburg or a Fedora. I only know this due to interesting hat week. Important? Maybe not. Interesting? Yes. This is how I would sum up our season, as debatably a Fedora, possibly a Homburg, not necessarily important, but definitely interesting. Throughout the season we played some great games, which is not necessary important, made some great friends and some grabby enemies which is definitely interesting. We were a little bit flat at the start of the season but really turn up at the back end of the season, like the brim of a Fedora, with an undefeated run in 2011 that was only ended in the grand final. During the season our levels of cohesion grew and grew until we could only be described as interwoven, like the weave on a good Homburg. Anyway enough likening cricket to hats. Let’s talk about AP. Our season was littered with many an individual moment of brilliance, too many to name them all. However a couple that stand out are Tom Dempsey’s entire season, 2 hundreds, a total of 10,000 runs and sun protection for the entire team. With a season like that Tom, I can only suggest one thing, that you retire at the peak of your abilities. Don’t worry you have already been replaced by the oft maligned Tom Demspey. Congratulations on you good run. Matt Salisbury also deserves a mention for his wicket taking prowess, with run-up AP so low that it caused opposition teams to joke that he must have a tree in his back yard that got in the way of his run up, you have to do something special to get a mention. Luckily he did. 4000 wickets at an average of 1.045 for the season capped by taking 5-for in the semi-final to help us roll our opposition for 106ish allowing us, the lower ranked team to sneak a win in one day and thus make it into the final despite the second week wash out. Matt also bowled really well in the grand final, can’t really remember his figures but they were very good. Then there is Nick ‘Fingers’ Garton Gartoes who until the grand final may or may not have been scraping by on incredible AP, most likely not if you look at his bowling figures for the season, but still possibly so. Who knows? The grand final saw him return the amazing figures of 7 for 3 from 500 overs to really keep us in the final and give a us sniff of drinking out of that illustrious cup. We had some new players turn up, Nandika Samarawickrama, a man of little words and even fewer enemies. Had a great knack of taking important wickets when ever asked to bowl. Owen Owenstein (Rajayogen) was another new addition to our side to make an impression, insisted on never scoring more runs than his age as he said that would be unfair to people like Duncs who have no hope of ever achieving that goal. His words, not mine. That brings me to Duncan Haigh, the stalwart of our team, swift in the field, sharp when he bowls, and vital cog in the wheel of our batting line up. Instrumented the all important semi final chase where he hit the winning runs of the second last ball of the day to put into the final. Was robbed of finally out scoring his age and getting a ton by rain the next week. Duncan also pioneered the leopard. Then there is Andrew ‘Superhands’ Burgess, a man so allergic to keeping it might be contagious. But he did it any way. Took many a blow for the team in the grand final, and struck some very important ones throughout the season. This was especially true in the fielding department where he termed himself superhands, even though the team voted on houses (as in safe as). But that’s just the top guy he is. Also pioneered the team knee. The next paragraph starts with Mike Benjamin, a man with a mouth that could only have been developed on the courts of Harlem, and a wrist that only comes from having a really fast internet connection and lots of spare time. Man of the match most matches. Brad LaFranchi. Very noisy man when he bowls, as I have delicate ears I couldn’t bowl him often. However he is an invaluable member of our team, especially for his dangerous batting and combative mouth. Drives really fast too. Naish ‘Qantas’ Somaiya, so called because he is the spirit of our team. Took one of the most amazing catches you’ll ever see in the 20/20, one handed beer blinder it was. I have been avoiding mentioning this, but I guess it has to happen. We did have one other new player added to our team this year. He came into our team as a quite young gentleman, but you could always tell that there was something about him, something that just said to you, don’t let him bowl, whatever you do, don’t let him bowl. Ever. Unfortunately in my newness to captaincy 43 I erroneously gave the young Devitt a bowl. St Ives out of anger at my blasphemy in the face of the gods of cricket gave their wickets away to his arsenal of full tosses and slightly less full tosses. 4/11 he took that day. Three numbers that shall forever haunt my sleep. To my team mates I would sincerely like to apologise for this error, I admit that I was wrong, I am sorry. If you choose to let me lead you again I promise this will not happen again. He could also bat a bit, stroking an unbeaten half century in the grand final on a day that the pitch was doing as much as he thinks his bowling does. All in all a good season. Good hat, top AP and see you all next season. Kiwi.(Matt O’Connor – Captain

C Grade A year of mixed results saw us finish 5th in a very tight competition. Ultimately, it was some questionable batting performances; including 2 and 3-run losses that cost us semi-finals and glory. Nonetheless, we had fine individual performers including the top two Association Champion Players – Pingy & Aydos. As well as, a host of key performers and moments: • Rd3 V CHRSL – Pingy announces himself with the bat, posting a swash-buckling 50 and follows up with devastating swing bowling (6/27). There appears to an imposing opening bowling partnership with Anuj (2/27) & Lindsay in the making. Demon is tremendous in the field runs out key batsmen from a long chase to boundary; we record our first win of the season by rattling the opposition for 84. • Rd4 V Galston-Glenorie – Pingy repeats masterful bowling display and grabs identical figures (6/27). A gutsy Aydos (47*) runs out of partners, we go down by 3. • Rd5 V WPHC – Christo (68) & Aydos (57) put on patient 124 for the 2nd wicket. Setting it up for Lindsay (60) to monster 5x6s and 5x4s, making Normo Oval look like a low- maintenance backyard. ‘A fired up’ Coastal Pat and Blue Steel (WPH) sledge match leads to a classic dismissal and direct hit run out courtesy of Ammers. We beat eventual champions, WPHC by 2 wickets. • Rd6 V Mt Colah – Pat (3/25 and a stunning direct hit from the boundary) and Chinku (36) combine well to see us home by 13 in a tricky one. • Rd8 V Hornsby – Aiden (52, 2/37) and Manish (26, 3/30) all round efforts go unrewarded as we choke out to eventual grand finalists’ by 2 runs. A very agile Alan Riggers grabs 6 clever dismissals behind the stumps. • Rd10 V CHRSL – Lindsay (107*) and Aydos (16*) put on 138 for the 3rd wicket as we romp home by 8 wickets. Lindsay’s ton includes 82 runs in boundaries and comes in 18 overs. • Rd11 V Glenorie-Galston – A highly controversial game (and defeat) but a spirited batting effort, thanks to 103 run 3rd wicket partnership by Lindsay (81) and Amran (28), gives us hope of a late season surge. • Rd12 V WPHC – Anujs all round bests’ (4/63 & 34) ably supported by batting bests from Pujju (39) & Egg (23) aren’t enough, as our season takes a turn for the worst. We are sitting tied last with 2 matches left but still a mathematical chance. • Rd13 V Mt Colah – Pat (5/69, 20*) with the help from Aydos (59) and Christo (38) keep the dream alive. Lindsay deputizes for Riggers, gloves a couple of good ones and takes

44 another dramatically with the aid of several body parts. This leaves us needing an outright in the last game (or a couple of very favorable results). • Rd14 V Kenthurst – Tiger Rapley (28) leads the team to empathic 37 run win, unfortunately not enough to see us thru. Perhaps, the best team performance of the year with Amran (77 and 3/29) and Chirsto (28) posting a 104 run opening stand; Pingy (35) and Aydos (34*) helping set a formidable total. Followed up by season best bowling figures for Egg (3/45) Vivek Mamu (2/23) and Rishy O’Riley (2/31). And great contributions in the field with Riggers snapping 3; Pingy and Demon taking absolute classics. Amran ‘Panther’ Sinha – captain and co-captain who regularly won the toss and appointed fines. Once upon a-time, a classy all-rounder who had an average season with the bat (182 runs @ 20) and went under bowled (12 wickets @ 17). A nice return in the final game of the season showed a glimpse of the potential. Also snapped up 9 regulation catches and a couple of run outs. Aidan ‘Aydos’ Allen – co-captain, vice-captain and captain, played every game this season. Enjoyed a stellar season with the bat (393 runs @ 36), batting for a mammoth 250 odd overs. Has a wonderful defensive technique and off-side play – when walking to the pitch of the ball, was the best in the competition. Had little luck with the ball (8 wkts @ 38) but was miserly in the latter half of the season. Took some nice reflex catches (9) and a fine individual run out. Steve ‘Tiger’ Rapley – a solid batsman, a team motivator and reliable fieldsmen. Always turned up for the team and subbed often. Captained the team, with undermanned bowling stocks, to a great win in the final match. Floated in the batting order (65 runs @ 8) and probably should have had more runs. Cameron ‘Egg’ Allen – only managed to play half the season with us due colts and Facebook commitments. A steadfast and enthusiastic cricketer, who made vital breakthroughs, recorded a commendable bowling record (9 wkts @ 23) and a fashionable batting (48 runs @ 12) technique. And a very good judge of the outfield catch, snapped a couple of beauties. Manish ‘Chinku’ Jindal – A Batsman (171 runs @ 14) with flair and shot-making ability who did not click until he opened the batting in the latter half of the season. A specialist one-day bowler (5 wickets @ 22) who was economical when asked to come on to bowl. A potentially game-breaking bat if he can bat time. Rishi ‘O’Riley’ Mehta – a larrikin on and off the field. A ‘skiddy’ type of bowler (3 wickets @ 27) who had a bit of success with the ball rushing on to batsman. Had limited opportunities with the ball but ended in style. A quiet year with the bat (32 runs @ 4) after being scarred early in the season when a genuinely fast bowler struck him in a sensitive area. Puru ‘Pujju’ Vaid – a solid middle order batsman. And a very fast and committed ground fieldsman with grass burns to prove it. Also took a beautiful outfield catch which changed the course of an innings V CHRSL Rd 10. Although stats (90 runs @ 11) may suggest otherwise, Puru enjoyed good stays at the crease and batted well in partnerships, often, only to be dismissed unluckily and comically. Anuj ‘Basanti’ Gupta – Out-swing opening bowler (14 wkts @ 22) who regularly beat batsman and should have had a bagful of more. Took some memorable wickets, none better than an exhilarating caught & bowled V Glenorie Rd 4. Capable of playing big shots (89 runs @ 11) as he demonstrated with several lofted drives against WPHC Rd12. Lindsay ‘Pingy Le Corb’ett’ Corbett – Team & Association Champion. A genuine athlete and fine all rounder. Topped the batting aggregate (412 runs @ 34) including 21x6’s and 50x4’s. On the back of back-to-back 6-fors, Le Corb’ett lead the bowling (16 wkts @ 11) until the penultimate round, even when he hadn’t bowled for 2 months due to injury. Took some spectacular catches and on three separate occasions created a catching chance from nothing, also didn’t drop any.

45 Chris ‘Christo’ Jones – Reliable & natural opening batsman (181 runs @ 23) with patented cut shot. Solid in defence and flair for the off-side, Christo set up a few match winning totals and contributed well in four big partnerships, two of which reached three figures. Surprising slower bowler (2 wkts @ 11) who bowled once only for good return. Alan ‘Riggers’ Rigney – A smart wicket-keeper involved in 17 dismissals, including 14 catches, 2 stumping and a run out. Kept byes to a minimum and kept well next to the sticks. Also, got us over the line against WPHC Rd5 in an unbeaten 32 run 9th wicket partnership, but that was where all the batting (11 runs @ 3) highlights stopped. Vivek ‘Mamu’ Sood – A team man and smiling personality who was finding his way after a lengthy absence from the game. A gutsy batsman (61 runs @ 6) who could bat anywhere but whose stats were tainted by the unwanted record of 5 ducks. A challenging hard ball bowler (4 wkts @ 18), who went under bowled, could extract bounce off full lengths. Dirk ‘Demon’ Drieberg – A true statesman of the club and team, did as he does year in and year out. He has terrific wicket taking ability (14 wkts @ 19) and continues to bowl the unplayable, fashioning a new doosra this year, leaving a couple of heads spinning. Also had a couple of sharp moments in the field with a great team run out and low slips catch. Pat ‘Coastal Pat’ Ferarra – A livewire on and off the field and an all round super athlete. After a slow start, hit his bowling straps cumulating in a match winning 5-for in V Mt Colah Rd13, helping him take the bowling award (19 wkts @ 18). More than a capable with the bat (126 runs @ 18), Coastal Pat produced a couple of twenty+ not outs to finish off winning games. Saved many runs on the boundary and threw down the stumps from the fence for a spec. run out. Special thanks to all other who contributed – Madura Perera, Manu Thakur, Michael Gorrie & Taran Lath .

46 C3 Grade PREMIERS Normanhurst C3’s ended the 2010 / 2011 season narrowly missing out on the minor premiership by 3 points following with victory in both the semi and grand final. Finishing the season with 10 Wins (1 outright), 2 draws and 2 losses. There were a few stand-out players during the season, however, all in all the results came down to team co-operation. Pat Muldrew started the season opening the batting and ripping apart most oppositions, finishing with 361 runs at a strike rate of 250. Peter Johnston performed throughout the season with the bat finishing with 473 runs @ 52; unfortunately, Yorkshire Jack didn’t perform as well and seemed to disappear half way through the season, much to the delight of most opposition batsmen. Sam Hogan performed with both bat and ball, finishing slightly behind Peter on 428 runs and scoring a century this season. With the ball Sam took 17 wickets and stepped up several times to take a wicket when needed. Tim Acheson really filled out this year and proved he is going to trouble batsmen for years to come. His bowling this season yielded 30 wickets at an average of 9.93. Not only did Tim take wickets, he was able to take them at critical times, including being thrown the ball in one match when 3 wickets needed and only 20 runs to win, Tim ended taking 2 of those wickets with the last when the scores were level, forcing a tie. Tim also took the most catches for competition taking 13 with 1 run out, narrowly edging out Bryan Massey (11 catches, 1 run out, 2 assisted), Karl Davies (10), Mick Smith (8) and Sam Hogan (7). Karl Davies showed true form with the ball taking 26 wickets at an average of 10.6; this would have been more had he not been rated out of C3’s for several games half-way through the season only to be granted a pardon (along with other C3 players). While threatening with the skills of a true Welsh batsmen for the first few balls of each innings, we didn’t see his best until the final where he made a strong showing returning 28 invaluable runs and edging the team so much closer to the required total. The fielding from the team was exemplary throughout the season, with the 5 team members coming in the top 10 for the competition (positions 1,2,3,5,7). Throughout the season this was quite a tightly fought battle, especially with Mick Smith leading for the first half until breaking a finger in attempting a catch (had he caught the ball the finger would not have been broken…). On a whole the above team members were the standouts, however they also had the support of the rest of the lads and a few special mentions are in order. David Medcalf and Mick Smith were always willing to put in for the team, David was especially keen to get under the grill of opposing batsmen and managed to snuffle several sharp chances along with some impressive bruises. Mick Smith battled through the broken finger and came to every game to assist and support the team. The contributions of both these boys, while at times can be under- estimated, should not be overlooked. Stewart Johnson proved his batting ability and cricket prowess early in the season before succumbing to a leg injury, ruling him out for most of the latter half of the season. Luckily for the team, Stewart came back in the final series and in the grand final came to the crease after a few quick wickets. Stewart steadied the ship during his innings, batting with 4 partners to scratch out a much needed 41 and hitting the winning runs. Stewart also showed he was able to bowl handy leg breaks, with the ability to tie down an end, set his field and pick up a few wickets. John Acheson provided calmness and guidance to the team, quelling several disputes over the course of the season. John was the cogs of the machinery, organising the team each week, ensuring the scores were kept in line and providing much needed support to several team members. John, while not performing to his standard, did excel with the bat on several occasions. Scott Lloyd-Owen supported the team with the new ball each game and picked up 22 Wickets at an average of 15, bowling a massive 164 overs in 12 matches. Scott was pivotal in ripping through the top order of a batting line-up on several occasions, really hitting his straps towards the end of the season when it was really needed.

47 Nick Muldrew again this season showed his value to the team, taking 23 Wickets at an average of just of 13. Nick, true to his character, was always willing to step up for the team and do anything asked of him. Conor Siebel supported the team in each game he played, playing the first half of the season and returning from holidays in South America where he shared many interesting stories. We hope to see Conor return next year to show his true skills. In the first half of the season Conor was instrumental in several victories, including one memorable bowling effort after a late night exploring the wonders of the CBD. Replacing our opening bowler (no names, Nick) who had been belted for 20 odd runs in the first over of a one-dayer (to earn a well-deserved nap on the side lines), Conor came on and after 8 longs overs he had captured 2 wickets for not many runs, setting us up for another impressive win. The team had an over-abundance of bowlers and, while causing some selection issues from time to time, allowed us to always have someone to step up. Our bowlers were supported magnificently in the field in every game played (a few minor hiccups in the final). With the key batsmen putting in stellar performances week in, week out, while being supported by the rest of the line-up. The key ingredient that stood out at the beginning of the season was that we were a disparate group of players getting to know each other, by the end of the season were had become a formidable TEAM. A final mention to the players who stepped in during the season to fill selection gaps, all of whom played a vital role – Chris Jones, Brad McGuire, Raja Rajamohan, Manoj Rajamohan, Alan Rigney, Steven Rapley, Mike Griffin (President), David Norton, Will Johnston, Anthony Johnston, Taylor Davies, Mike Hogan, Lindsay Corbett and Rishi Mehta. D Grade – Grand Finalists Despite putting the runs on the board (213 runs) and outstanding bowling efforts on the first day (31/3 on Sat evening), we could not go on to clinch that Final victory. Whilst our bowlers created several chances, our fielding mishaps let us down (too many catches went down) and in the end Kissing Point had a 3 wickets win. We are definitely a much better fielding side - the outstanding number of catches taken (55) and the run outs we made (10) during the season proves that, but unfortunately, we could not reproduce that in our final innings to clinch the premiership. Well, it was not the finish we wanted, but what can I say? Never mind, there is always the “Next Season!” Irrespective of the final results, I believe, we did extremely well this season. That too, after getting moved up a grade (to D-grade) early in the season, the resilience and the fighting spirits shown by the team in the higher grade was commendable. These mighty efforts by all earned us the minor premiership with resounding points in the ladder (82 points). The season has identified few new talents among the new comers, improved the maturity of the young players and also shown us what the re-invigorated skills of the senior players could do in the hour of needs. The season saw 5 x century scores and 3 x 5+ wicket hauls. In the end, we grouped nicely as a well balanced team that could beat any opponents in the comp. I am privileged to lead such a wonderful team this season and I look forward to associate with you all for many more seasons to come. The highlights of the season include: • New association record for 4 th wicket partnership – J Donnelly & M Donnelly – 233 runs. • 12 wins that included 2 outright wins and 3 losses (including the Final), 2 x 300 plus runs total, 4 x 200 plus runs total and got the opponents out for “Two digit totals” on 6 occasions. • Batting efforts: 5 centuries and 5 half centuries were scored. One player scoring 496 runs, 2 players scoring 300+ runs, 2 players scoring 200+ runs and 3 players scoring 100+ runs. • Bowling efforts: one player claiming 33 wickets, 2 players claiming 20+ wickets and 2 players claiming 10+ wickets. These include 1 x 6 wickets haul, 2 x 5 wickets haul, 5 x 4 wickets hauls and 10 x 3 wickets hauls. • Fielding efforts: 55 catches and 10 run outs. • Keeping efforts: 16 catches and a stumping (between 2 players) Players: • Andrew Bastoli – The Best Bowler of the year. Opens the bowling for the team. Bowls a good medium pace, accurate and economical. Claimed 33 wickets including match winning a 6 wickets haul, a 5 wickets haul, a 4 wickets haul and a 3 wickets haul. His outstanding match winning performances earned him “The Player of the Season” award. Also carried out the Captain’s duty for one of the matches this year. • Matt Briscoe – One of the opening batsmen of the team and acted as the 2nd wicket keeper. As he was called upon to play Colts on many occasions, Matt could not play many games for us. In the few matches played, he scored 139 runs including a half century and took 4 catches (2 as WK & 2 as a fielder). I wish him well to get selected & play for the higher grades in the coming seasons. • Richard Briscoe – after a long gap played cricket for first time. Just joined the team to play with his son but turned out to be an outstanding player. A handy medium pace bowler taking 8 wickets for the season. He had the knack of getting the best batsmen out several time. A lower order batsmen and stranded as not out batsmen on many occasions. He also took 4 catches and claimed a run out. Carried out the Captain’s duty for one of the matches.

49 • Justin Donnelly – One of the centurions of the year (112) scored 345 runs for the season. Made a record breaking 233 runs 4 th wicket partnership with his dad and 106 runs partnership with Craig Woods. A fast bowler causing terror with his fierce bouncers. Claimed 23 wickets for the season including a 5 wickets haul and a 3 wickets haul. Very good fielder making 4 catches and a run out for the season. • Mike Donnelly – One of the centurions of the year (136). A reliable left hand batsman scoring 300 runs for the season and involved in a record breaking partnership with his son. The main Wicket Keeper of the team; claimed 15 catches and a stumping this year. Great mentor, when batting with young players. Instrumental in big partnerships during this season and carried out the Captain’s duty for two matches. • Ed Knowles – A left arm medium pace swing bowler who showed considerable improvements to his batting skills this year. He played only half the season due to his HSC but still managed to take 14 wickets this year including a 3 wickets haul. His achievements this year include; taking at least one wicket on every match (except one) he played and a 69 runs match winning 7th wicket partnership with Chris Smith against Hornsby. • Varun Mohankumar – A reliable top order batsman and a spin bowler with a lot of variations. He only played 7 matches this season, as he was away overseas. Still managed to score 267 runs for the season including 2 half centuries and involved in 2 x 100 runs partnerships and also made very impressive match winning 57* against St Ives in a rain affected match. He also claimed 9 wickets including a 4 wickets haul and 4 catches for the season. • Jaime Nagayo – A committed player who supports the team whole heartedly. Even turns up on the days he is not playing to support the team. An excellent partnership breaker with his mystery bowling. Being a lower order batsman he did not get much opportunity to bat this season, as most of the top order batsmen took the required runs to finish the match on many occasions. • David Posener –A very good opening batsman who scored 252 runs for the season. An excellent left arm swing bowler opens the bowling for the team. Bowls with a lot of variations and his outstanding bowling efforts fetched him 24 wickets for the season that included 2 x 4 wickets and a 3 wickets hauls. Excellent fielder taking 6 catches and claiming 2 run outs for the season. His all round efforts earned him the “Best All-rounder of the season” award. • Raja Rajamohan – Captain, a pinch hitter but did not get many opportunity to bat this season. Handy slow bowler claiming 9 wickets including a 3 wicket haul this season. A good slip fielder taking 5 catches for the season that involved few chasing and diving efforts! • Chris Smith – a young (U14) new comer to the team. A consistent lower order batsman staying not out on 5 occasions. Scored 165 runs (with an average of 33) for the season including a match winning 46 not out and contributing to 69 runs partnership with Ed Knowles against Hornsby. An outstanding fielder took highest number of catches (10) for the team. Handy spin bowler claiming 4 wickets for the season. Chris has lots of potential to become a best all-rounder and I am sure he will be an asset going forward. His outstanding performance earned him the “Best New Talent of the season” award. • Jeff Thomson – A very good slow medium bowler. His bowling accuracy makes it hard to bat and earned him 18 wickets this season that included 4 x 3 wickets hauls. He is a reliable lower order batsman, but opened the innings on few occasions and scored 68 runs for the season that included an unbeaten 117 runs partnership with Craig Woods. He also claimed 4 catches for the season and carried out the Captain’s duty for one the matches this season. • Andrew Watson – Another good new talent for the season. A very good spin bowler claiming 9 wickets for the season including a 3 wickets haul. A lower order batsman had a

50 match wining 35 runs 9 th wicket partnership with Andre Van Woerkom. A very good team player turns up every week to support the team even when not playing. He is also good in fielding claiming 6 catches for the season including an amazing high catch in the semi-final. • Craig Woods – what can I say about Craig, he is a batsman of a different class, who makes the batting look too easy. He was a nightmare to our opponents scoring 496 runs (including an unbeaten 160 against Kissing Point the eventual competition winners) in fast pace from just 7 matches he played that include 2 x centuries and 2 x half centuries. He is an inspiration to many of his batting partners resulting in 4 x century partnerships this season. He is a good pace bowler, who amazingly generates good pace with such a short run up. He claimed 5 wickets with the limited number of overs he bowled and also took 4 catches for the season. I hope he is not graded too high next season so that he can still play for us. • Andre Van Woerkom – Another good new talent who joined us later in the season. A strong batsman who scored 155 runs for the season including 2 x half centuries. He was instrumental in setting up the match wining total against Berowra when he top scored with 88 not out after a top order batting collapse. He is also good in fielding claiming a sharp catch at the short midwicket. • Substitute players – last but not the least, our team appreciates the efforts of the substitute players; Utkarsh Somaiya who is another centurion (119*) of the team, Manish Jindal who had a 4 wickets haul. Chris Bourke who scored 91 runs and claimed 4 wickets for us, Steven Rapley, Rishi Mehta and Rahul Tamilarasan, who helped us, fielding the full team in few matches this season. Raja Rajamohan – Captain

Best All-rounder David Posener (199 runs, 24 wickets) Best Player Andrew Bastoli (32 wickets @ 12.5) Best New Talent Chris Smith

Mike Donnelly (136) and his son Justin Donnelly (112) combined for a superb record 4 th wicket partnership of 233 runs at Normanhurst Oval 26 February 2011, ensuring their team had another comfortable victory to wrap up the Minor Premiership.
