Rear Admiral (LH) Stefano CORONA

Rear Admiral Stefano CORONA was born in ROMA on 22

October 1961. After graduating from the Naval College Morosini in Venice, he attended the Italian Navy Academy from 1980 to 1984 in Livorno. In May 1987 he obtained the master’s degree with honours in Mechanical and Naval Engineering at the University of Trieste. From 1987 to 1989, he was embarked on the frigate “ORSA”. In 1990 he obtained the qualification in Aviation Engineering at the Italian Navy Training Centre in Catania (first place), trained in US at Boeing’s (former McDonnell Douglas in St. Louis), and at USMC Squadron (Cherry Point, NC) on the Vertical Takeoff and Landing AV-8B strike aircraft.

 From 1991 to 1992 he was the Chief Engineer (AMO) of the First AV-8B Squadron “Gruppo Aerei Imbarcati” at NAS Grottaglie.  From 1993 to 1994 he was Chief Engineer on the corvette “SFINGE”.  From 1995 to 1997 he was Chief Engineer on the destroyer “MIMBELLI”,  From 1997 to 2001 he was National APML at NAVAIR PMA 257 (AV-8B Weapon Systems Program Office) in USA (Arlington and Pax River).  From 2001 to 2009 he was Chief of the Technical, Logistic & Financial Branch of the Naval Aviation Department and AV-8B PM in the Italian Navy HQ.  From 2009 to 2013 he was the Logistics Division Leader at NATO NH-90 Programme in Aix-en-Provence.  From September 2013 to September 2016 he was the Director of the Technical and Logistic Branch in Command in Chief of Italian Navy Fleet.  From October 2016 to October 2018, he was the Director of the Italian Navy Shipyard La Spezia.  Since December 2018 he has been the Director of CISAM (Centro Interforze Studi per le Applicazioni Militari) in Pisa.

He was promoted Rear Admiral on July 2014. His honours and decorations include: - Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic; - Gold Cross for service seniority (25 years); - Long Command Medal; - Commemorative Cross for NATO operation “Sharp Guard”; - Commemorative Cross for operation “Peace ex-Yugoslavia”; - Commemorative Medal for the Navy personnel employed in the Persian Gulf; - Decoration of Merit for service in the Navy General Staff; - Naval Aviation gold insignia; - Helicopter specialist insignia.

Rear Admiral Stefano CORONA is married to Nicoletta and they have four children Alice, Matteo, Emma and Lorenzo.
