The BIG ride 2010, which was a history making event, was the Scooter Ride, spearheaded by none other than ―Big Daddy‖ Ed Dacus. SO WE THOUGHT . What a great job and a GREAT ride. That was last April. But the REALLY BIG RIDE of 2010 was the November Scooter Ride. Thanks again to all the people involved and a special Colonel Bob thanks to Jeffie Dacus Ed’s Mother, Sherri Dacus, Les- lie Dacus Ed’s daughter-in-law. The Breakfast was OUT-OF-THIS-WORLD AGAIN. NOVEM- BER 13, 2010 turned out to be one of the coldest and rainiest days of the month. But the response was overwhelming. You may know 79 people attended the April event with 49 riders were rolling. The November event brought out 112 people and a total of 97 bikes, 50 of which braved the elements and actually rode the three stop shop tour laid out by Big Daddy and Shane Dorton.

There’s a theory about how time seems to speed up as you get older. It goes something like this: when you are 10yo, one year is a massive 10% of your life and seems like forever. When you are 100yo, one year is only a meagre 1% of your life and so it seems like nothing as it seems to pass quickly. I think it is Alzheimer’s! No committee meeting this last month due to clashing with the Geelong Show. This also knocked out the Tech/Craft night which is always a bit of fun. As it is November, members are reminded of the many events coming up this month. With the weather being nice, perhaps we will get a few more old cars out on the coffee morning.

Triumph boss Edward Turner understood brand loyalty and the importance of having an entry-level motorcycle in the model range. He also wanted that bike to mimic the premium sportsters in the Triumph range as closely as possible. Enter the 1953 Triumph Tiger Cub. Derived from the 150cc Terrier of 1952, the Cub’s engine was a 199cc (63mm x 64mm bore and stroke) air-cooled, dry sump, OHV 4-stroke single with an iron cylinder and alloy head. The built-up crankshaft spun on a drive-side ball bearing with a plain bush on the timing side, and started out with a roller bearing connecting rod big end (changed to a plain bearing around 1956). Primary drive to the wet multi-plate clutch was by chain, while the 4-speed countershaft gearbox was housed in a separate chamber cast in-unit with the engine. An alternator powered the 6-volt electrical system, with the ignition points mounted in a housing on top of the timing cover.
