HOW TO USE THE BCS PRICEGUIDE TO FIND PRICES AND AVAILABILITY The BCS Priceguide is designed to be used in conjunction with the "factory" parts book for a particular year and model motorcycle. The original equipment manufacturer's part numbers can be referenced in the Priceguide to show price and availability as of publication date. Norton Part Numbers: Early Norton part numbers can appear in a variety of ways: E3135 becomes NME3135 and supersedes to 06-7584 T2166 becomes NMT2166 and supersedes to 06-3995 25060 becomes NM25060 and supersedes to 06-7903 (please note: the early Norton numbers are found in the front part of the Priceguide section as NME3135; NMT2166; NM25060; etc.) BSA Part Numbers: When consulting your BSA parts book, check carefully to be sure you have written the part numbers correctly. BSA part numbers are composed of two digits, a dash, and at least four digits following. Occasionally, there will be a six digit number followed by a slash mark and one, two or three digits. For example, BSA part numbers may be listed as: 67-0946 42-6528/88 97-3896/3 97-3795/177 However, some of the older BSA parts books may show the part numbers in an entirely different way. In all cases, BSA part numbers must be entered on your parts order with two digits, a dash, and at least four digits following. When you look up a BSA part number in a BSA part book, and it does not show two digits, a dash, and at least four digits, it will be necessary to convert to this form, to either enter the part number correctly on your parts order, or to assist you in looking up a price in the Priceguide section. To convert old part numbers, fill in the missing digits with zeros. 2-525 becomes 02-0525 (Only the last two digits before the dash are the 40-24 becomes 40-0024 start of the part number; some early parts books 67-949 becomes 67-0949 listed a price code first, which should be ignored.) Triumph Part Numbers: In 1973 Triumph introduced a numerical part numbering system which supercedes the old alpha-numeric system, in most cases. The old alpha-numeric numbers convert as follows: DXXXX becomes 60-XXXX HXXXX becomes 97-XXXX EXXXX (4 digits) becomes 70-XXXX SXXXX becomes 21-XXXX EXXXXX (5 digits) becomes 71-XXXX TXXXX becomes 57-XXXX FXXXX (4 digits) becomes 82-XXXX WXXXX becomes 37-XXXX FXXXXX (5 digits) becomes 83-XXXX Some exceptions to the above are listed in the Priceguide. Some Triumph numbers are found in the early part of the Priceguide section as WE479; S262; S661; etc. WE479 becomes 70-6869 S262 becomes 60-4250 Call British Cycle Supply Company S661 becomes 60-4253 (902)542-7478 if you have any questions. 6/18/2021 Triumph Motorcycles Timeline: The Glory Years, 1963-1972 Triumph Motorcycles timeline 1963-1972: The Glory Years See bottom of page for links to other eras in Triumph's history New: Post your comments, opinions, and ask questions on my new FORUM. Tiger 90, high performance 350 3TA introduced, similar to T100S/S. All 650s, (including Bonnies, 1963 Tbirds, TR6, Trophy) are built with a new unit construction engine/gear box. Tina T10, 100cc scooter with automatic transmission introduced (designed by Turner). The US-only TR6SC, a pure desert racer with straight pipes, was produced: basically a single-carb T120, very fast. 650s all get new coil ignition. First year for T120 unit construction models. The Bonnie undergoes numerous and significant upgrades to its engine, gearbox, transmission and frame (after toying with a duplex design, Triumph instead made a larger diameter downtube to combat wobble and weave). A special TT model (T120C/TT) is produced until 1967 for the USA, due to the encouragement of Bill Johnson, of Johnson Motors ("Jo-Mo"). This is a stripped-down racing model, only made until 1966 for the US market. Two US dealers on a camping trip come up with the idea for the T20M Mountain Cub, combining Tiger Cub, Sports Cub and trials Cub parts. First sold in USA in 1964, proves very successful. BSA closes the Ariel factory at Selly Oak. The last Ariels in production, the Leader and Arrow, are manufactured at BSA's factory in Small Heath until 1965. Norton Atlas released. AMC acquires James. Norman ceases production.

ABSTRACT This is a study of the decline and collapse, in 1973, of the Birmingham Small Arms Company Ltd, primarily a motorcycle manufacturing company and pre-WW2 world market-leader. The study also integrates and extends several earlier investigations into the collapse that concentrated on events in the Motorcycle Division, rather than on the BSA Group, its directors and its overall strategy. The collapse of BSA was due to failures of strategy, direction and management by directors, who were not up to running one of Britain’s major industrial companies after it was exposed to global competition. While the charge, by Boston Consulting and others, that the directors sacrificed growth for short term profits was not proven, their failure to recognise the importance of motorcycle market share and their policy of segment retreat in response to Japanese competition, played a large part in the decline of the company.
