2 3 President’s Greeting

I am honored to have this opportunity to introduce Keimyung University to you through this new brochure published in 2012 as we mark the 58th anniversary of Keimyung’s founding. The intervening years have seen the University grow from such humble beginnings as seeds in the minds of our Christian founders who realized the necessity of a new institute of higher learning in the city of , which had just begun its recovery from war, to the internationally renowned university Keimyung is today.

Adorning the wall facing Dongsan Library’s main entrance and ever reminding us of our permanent and most important mission is the Latin expression “Bonus Intra Melior Exi” which translates as "enter good; leave better." Keimyung University, with its deep commitment to academic excellence and ethical scholarship, is a place of learning where students of all ages enter good and leave better as creative global citizens.

The seeds that were planted upon our founding in 1954 have indeed borne great fruit; nevertheless, if we are to ensure that future students leave Keimyung better than when they first grace our halls, the planting of new seeds must remain our never-ending obligation. It is my hope that as you browse this brochure or visit our campus you will see not only the fruits of previously planted seeds, but also more recently planted seeds taking root and blossoming as we continue writing this still early history of Keimyung University.

The hill was known in the vernacular simply as the rock mountain. It was indeed a hill of shale rocks on which certainly no trees or bushes, except for a few strains of the most tenacious weeds, could take root. A rock mound monument on the original campus is both a remnant of that original landscape and a humble reminder of our beginnings.
