4 | iPad Essentials I O S 1 0 . 2 - Airplane Mode Airplane mode turns off the wireless features on your IOS device so that you comply with airline regulations. It should turn off your GPS and you’ll need to turn on the Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to get limited services.

- Wi-Fi on/off

- Bluetooth on/off Note: Bluetooth is about a 30 foot radius

- Do not Disturb on/off - Mute On/Mute Off - Lock Orientation - Making yourself discoverable for sharing purposes (everyone or contacts) Apple has introduced a feature called Air Drop, which allows you to easily share files like photos, contacts, notes and so on, between supported iOS devices that are in close proximity to each other. Note that this doesn't mean you have to be connected to the same wireless network. You don't need to be on a Wi-Fi network at all, as long as both devices have Wi-Fi turned on along with Bluetooth, and they're within 20 to 30 feet of each other, Air Drop should work. Now I think this is a lot more convenient than texting a bunch of photos or attaching them to email. If you're in the same room with someone, Air Drop makes it easy to directly share files with each other.

- Mirroring capabilities with a TV, Projector, using an Apple TV, or enabled Speakers. Must have your iPad and Apple TV connected to the same network.

Mirroring your iPad for others to see- There are a few factors and different combinations to consider in order to prepare to mirror your iPad. Decide these factors below;

 Will you be stationed or mobile during your presentation?  Will you be using a projector? o Does the projector have VGA or HDMI video cable? o Do you need audio as part of the presentation? -OR-  Will you be using a flatscreen? o Does the flatscreen have HDMI?  Will you be using Apple TV or Google Chromecast to mirror?

There are many combinations of setting up your presentation depending on what is available. The information below is a guideline and some available ideas for presenting to an audience or your team.

VGA –

HDMI -

Projector with only VGA - use an Apple VGA adapter with a female to female VGA cable or VGA cable with audio if your projector does not have HDMI.

Examples of adapters:

- Two examples of an Apple’s VGA adapter, the first picture has a lightning plug available to power your iPad.

Example of cables – (come in different lengths)

- Example of VGA cable - Example of a VGA cable with audio

18 | iPad Essentials I O S 1 0 . 2 Projector or Flat screen with HDMI – use an Apple display-port to HDMI video adapter converter with a HDMI cable (comes in different lengths)

+

Flat screen\Projector with Apple TV (Airplay) –Connect the Apple TV instead of your iPad using one of the two ways* above. Make sure the Apple TV and your iPad are on the same network. Turn on mirroring from your iPad’s control panel. The advantage here is you are not tethered to your Projector or Flatscreen when using Airplay.

*For a projector with only VGA use the ATVPro with audio jack by Kanex along with the basic VGA cable.

Google’s Chromecast – Chromecast is much like Apple TV in projecting but is much cheaper. Chromecast plugs directly into the HDMI with no remote required.

After initial set up - Tap this icon on your iPad to project wirelessly.

Or use Google’s Chromecast App – download from the App store or iTunes.
