Combining empirical analysis of the event itself and frequency analysis of the music used within it, the article works towards a theoretical framework that seeks to account for the social and physical contexts of listening. It suggests that affect engendered by the physical intersection of sound with the body provides a key way of understanding Share | experience, creativity and culture within contemporary electronic music. -

Introduction to Computer Music Week 1 Instructor: Prof. Roger B. Dannenberg Topics Discussed: Sound, Nyquist, SAL, Lisp and Control Constructs 1 Introduction Computers in all forms – desktops, laptops, mobile phones – are used to store and play music. Perhaps less obvious is the fact that music is now recorded and edited almost exclusively with computers, and computers are also used to generate sounds either by manipulating short audio clips called samples or by direct computation. In the late 1950s, engineers began to turn the theory of sampling into practice, turning sound into bits and bytes and then back into sound. These analog-to-digital converters, capable of turning one second’s worth of sound into thousands of numbers made it possible to transform the acoustic waves that we hear as sound into long sequences of numbers, which were then stored in computer memories. The numbers could then be turned back into the original sound. The ability to simply record a sound had been known for quite some time. The major advance of digital representations of sound was that now sound could be manipulated very easily, just as a chunk of data. Advantages of employing computer music and digital audio are: 1. There are no limits to the range of sounds that a computer can help explore. In principle, any sound can be represented digitally, and therefore any sound can be created. 2. Computers bring precision. The process to compute or change a sound can be repeated exactly, and small incremental changes can be specified in detail. Computers facilitate microscopic changes in sounds enabling us to producing desirable sounds. -

Dorf, Ph.D. April 2020 Abstract Recognized nationally as the funk capital of the world, Dayton, Ohio takes credit for birthing important funk groups (i.e. Ohio Players, Zapp, Heatwave, and Lakeside) during the 1970s and 80s. Through a combination of ethnographic and archival research, this paper offers a pedagogical approach to Dayton funk, rooted in the styles and works of the city’s funk legacy. Drawing from fieldwork with Dayton funk musicians completed over the summer of 2019 and pedagogical theories of including black music in the school curriculum, this paper presents a pedagogical model for funk instruction that introduces the ingredients of funk (instrumentation, form, groove, and vocals) in order to enable secondary school music programs to create their own funk rooted in local history. -

E R A S M U S + , K A 1 , Y O U T H LET’S TALK, HOW WE TALK ABOUT GENDER training course 10-17.05.2019, ZAKOPANE, POLAND B R O C H U R E About the project: This publication summarises the background and the outcomes of the project “Let’s talk, how we talk about Gender”. The project consisted of a training course for youth workers, educators, teachers and trainers implemented in May 2019 in Zakopane, Poland and follow up phase and was designed as an answer for missing debates and regular talks between the various group on the topics of gender equality, gender-based discrimination and violence. The training became the space to explore, discuss and create using applied drama techniques and mainly Forum Theatre elements. Together with 26 participants, including trainers, we were working on case studies from our countries, media releases and much more. Partners of the project: Fundacja Inicjatyw Twórczych I Społeczno-Edukacyjnych Kurdybanek, Poland – coordinator of the project Asociatia 'Tine de Noi', Romania Association for Educational Development EKVALIS, North Macedonia Bilgi ve Beceri Dernegi, Turkey Cubo d'Ideias - Associação Criativa, Portugal Greek Youth Mobility – GYM, Greece Efektas Group, Lithuania SDRUZHENIE WALK TOGETHER, Bulgaria Trainers: Wioletta Szuba Educator, art therapist, certified trainer of applied drama, she runs theatrical and drama workshops for youth and children, vocational training and development workshops for adults (focusing on woman and parents). She is an author of the program “With the tale to the world of emotions”, where she is using original tales scenarios to speak with children about emotions, values and shape attitudes. -

What I want to get, as you all know, is conversation about music and the Movement. And what I'm going to do—I'm not giving elaborate introductions. I'm going to go around the table and name who's here for the record, for the recorded record. Beyond that, I will depend on each one of you in your first, in this first round of comments to introduce yourselves however you wish. To the extent that I feel it necessary, I will prod you if I feel you've left something out that I think is important, which is one of the prerogatives of the moderator. [Laughs] Other than that, it's pretty loose going around the table—and this will be the order in which we'll also speak—Chuck Neblett, Hollis Watkins, Worth Long, Candie Carawan, Bettie Mae Fikes. I could say things like, from Carbondale, Illinois and Mississippi and Worth Long: Atlanta. Cobb: Durham, North Carolina. Tennessee and Alabama, I'm not gonna do all of that. You all can give whatever geographical description of yourself within the context of discussing the music. What I do want in this first round is, since all of you are important voices in terms of music and culture in the Movement—to talk about how you made your way to the Freedom Singers and freedom singing.
