As a 6 toddler, Billy would sing for friends and family using his toy karaoke machine, wowing them 7 with his incredible voice and natural ability. By the age of 5, Billy would delight in shopping with 8 his mom at a Westerly supermarket, and would stick his head inside the door of a frozen food 9 case, and sing to see if the echo would make him sound like he was on a stage. He liked what he 10 heard and he scribbled on the condensation of the glass door the words, "Now Starring: Billy 11 Gilman!"; and 12 WHEREAS, Billy gave his first public performance on a stage at the age of seven. Billy 13 Gilman later performed at the Washington County Fair in Richmond and other local fairgrounds 14 in the New England area. -

Idioms and Expressions by David Holmes A method for learning and remembering idioms and expressions I wrote this model as a teaching device during the time I was working in Bangkok, Thai- land, as a legal editor and language consultant, with one of the Big Four Legal and Tax companies, KPMG (during my afternoon job) after teaching at the university. When I had no legal documents to edit and no individual advising to do (which was quite frequently) I would sit at my desk, (like some old character out of a Charles Dickens’ novel) and prepare language materials to be used for helping professionals who had learned English as a second language—for even up to fifteen years in school—but who were still unable to follow a movie in English, understand the World News on TV, or converse in a colloquial style, because they’d never had a chance to hear and learn com- mon, everyday expressions such as, “It’s a done deal!” or “Drop whatever you’re doing.” Because misunderstandings of such idioms and expressions frequently caused miscom- munication between our management teams and foreign clients, I was asked to try to as- sist. I am happy to be able to share the materials that follow, such as they are, in the hope that they may be of some use and benefit to others. The simple teaching device I used was three-fold: 1. Make a note of an idiom/expression 2. Define and explain it in understandable words (including synonyms.) 3. Give at least three sample sentences to illustrate how the expression is used in context. -

Poyser attended Philadelphia Public Schools and graduated from Temple University with his B.S. degree in finance. Upon graduation, Poyser apprenticed with the songwriting/producing duo Kenny Gamble and Leon Huff. Poyser then established the Axis Music Group with his partners, Vikter Duplaix and Chauncey Childs. The rise of technological art forms, however, has raised questions about the act of collaboration with the machine . For Steina and Woody Vasulka, the creative process represents a "dialogue with the machine," in which they are not masters of a tool but receptors of its capabilities . Woody has said, "I have to share the creative process with the machine . It is responsible for too many elements in this work."(1) It is at the rupture between the mechanical and the electronic that the importance of the Vasulkas' work is best positioned . Their work poses crucial questions not only about the role of the machine in the creative process but also about what constitutes the electronic image, and how electronic space, with its level of abstraction and spatio-temporal dimensions, is redefining established concepts of space and time . In the work that they have produced collaboratively and as individual artists over twenty years, as multi-monitor installations or single-channel videotapes, the Vasulkas have pursued a phenomenological project of systematically deconstructing the properties of the video medium . -

One of the many misconception about country music is that its audience is strictly southern and rural; my northern urban working class family listened exclusively to country music. As a teenager I was was more interested in Motown than Nashville, but by the time I reached my early thirties I had became a serious country music fan. -
