US EQUESTRIAN CHECKLIST OF BREED COMPETITIONS PRIZE LIST REQUIREMENTS

Please review the USEF Checklist of General Prize List Requirements and include that information in addition to the information listed in this document. It is the responsibility of Competition Management to inform exhibitors of their responsibility to provide the correct breed association/registry papers with their entries.

A Show Committee must designate all qualifying classes and can require any or all winners in a qualifying class to compete in a Performance Championship class provided this is stated in the prize list and the gaits required are the same as in the qualifying class. (GR809).

Andalusian/ o For Liberty classes, it must be stated in the Prize List when an exhibitor must turn in their music to the competition management. The prize list must also state the media format of which the music must be in. (AL219.1d). o Sport In- classes may be held in any age groups deemed appropriate by competition management and published in the prize list, with the exception that of one sex shall not be judged against those of the opposite sex. Exception: Amateur or specified championship classes may have horses of all sexes. (AL235.2). o For Showmanship classes, may be prohibited if stated in the prize list. (AL244.2f).

Arabian o If it is optional for competitors to have AHA membership/competition cards and a copy of registration papers showing current owner of record with AHA, then it must be stated in the prize list. (AR103.1-2). o If offering futurity classes, the prize list must state the procedures for conduct of these classes. (AR107.4). o If offering “To Be Announced” class time slots, these must be listed in your prize list and time schedule. (AR107.5b) o Cross entries between Country English or English Pleasure classes and English Pleasure or Country English Pleasure futurity classes at the same competition may be permitted at the discretion of competition management if so stated in the prize list. (AR107.7). o Competitions may offer classes restricted to Arabians and/or Half-Arabians and/or Anglo- Arabians. The breed restrictions must be clearly published in the prize list for the benefit of all potential exhibitors. (AR107.9). o It must be stated in the prize list if junior exhibitors may not be shown in Ladies to Ride and Gentlemen to Ride classes. (AR110.6e). o Prize list must state if stallions are prohibited from being shown in Ladies’ or Junior Exhibitors’ classes. (AR110.11). o If competitors do not need to display the correct number while performing in any class, then this must be stated in the prize list. (AR112.1). o If a Show Committee requires any or all winners in a qualifying class at that competition to compete in a Performance Championship class, it must be stated in the prize list and the gaits required are the same as in the qualifying class. (AR126.1). o If stated in the prize list, Hackamore/ Bosal or standard snaffle may be prohibited in any Western Pleasure class on horses five years old and under. (AR144.2b). o For Working Hunter classes the prize list must indicate the maximum height of the fences either 2’, 2’3”, 2’6”. (AR164.3b). o If stated in the prize list, stallions and adult riders may be prohibited from the following classes: HORSES 14.2H AND UNDER HUNTER, AMATEUR WORKING HUNTER, OPEN, HANDY, MODIFIED, STAKE. (AR164.4). o If offering an Arabian Hunter section, the prize list must designate all full point classes counting toward an Arabian Hunter Championship in each section. (AR165.5). o If offering an Arabian Jumper section, the prize list must specify the Table and Section under which each class will be scored. The minimum and maximum height and spread must be stated for all classes not covered by AR169. o For Jumper Novice and Select classes, the competition prize list must indicate the fence height. (AR171.3). o Sport Horse In-hand classes may be held in any age groups deemed appropriate by competition management and published in the prize list with the exception that horses of one sex shall not be judged against those of the opposite sex. Exception: Specified group classes or specified championship classes may have horses of all sexes. (AR176.1). o For Sport Horse Showmanship if stallions are prohibited, it must be stated in the prize list. (AR185.2h). o For Combination classes the prize list must specify whether or not the rider and driver must be the same individual. (AR205.5).

Revised 4/28/2020 1 o For Trail classes, it is required that a Course Designer, separate from one of the judges, be contracted at every National Championship Competition and his/her name appears in the prize list. (AR225.2). o For classes, Competitions may offer classes restricted to Arabians and/or Half-Arabians/Anglo-Arabians. The breed restrictions must be clearly stated in the prize list. (AR234.3). o For AHA Jumper Seat Equitation Over Obstacles - .90m, if multiple judging systems are available, then the show will state in the prize list which system will be utilized. (AR235.4e4). o For Seat Equitation classes, if stated in the prize list, stallions may be prohibited. (AR245.2b). o For Showmanship classes, if stated in the prize list, stallions may be prohibited. (AR247.7). o If offering the Arabian Versatile Horse (AR272), the prize list must specify the three events making up this classes and whether or not the rider and driver must be the same individual. (AR271). o If offering Breeding or In-Hand Championships, the qualifying classes for the championships must be designated in the prize list (GR810.5).

Connemara o Stallions may be shown in Ladies and Children classes unless the prize list stipulates otherwise. (CO103.5) o The rules of the Carriage Pleasure division shall apply to all Connemara and Half-Bred Connemara classes except that stallions may be shown in all classes unless the prize list stipulates otherwise. (CO111). o If special classes are offered which is not included in the rulebook, the prize list must furnish detailed specifications. (CO113).

Friesian o In Drive and Ride classes, if the same exhibitor is required for all sections, then this must be stated in the prize list. (FR188b). o For Liberty classes, it must be stated in the prize list when an exhibitor must turn in their music to the competition management. The prize list must also state the media format(s) the music must be in. (FR232.2)

Morgan o At any AMHA Regional Championship that are not being hosted at an All- Morgan competition, stripping of horses may be optional in open and junior horse championship classes under (Park Saddle, English Pleasure, Hunter Pleasure, Western Pleasure Sections) when type and conformation are part of the specification if the prize list states so. (MO108.1). o If stated in the Prize List, an amateur who participates in the Ladies or Gentleman’s class of a given section is eligible for the Amateur Championship of said section if a Ladies Championship or Gentleman’s Championship is not held. (MO108.2). o There is only one standard for type and conformation of the . If In-Hand classes are offered for horses in specific disciplines or specific classes or suitable to become classes (Classic Pleasure In-Hand, Western In-Hand, etc.) horses are judged against the criteria stated in MO102. If such classes are offered competition management must print the above in the prize list to assure there is no misunderstanding and that no horse will be judged against any standard for another breed, discipline, or division. (MO113.1). o If a show is prohibiting cross entering between Youth and Junior Exhibitor classes, then it must be stated in the prize list. (MO114.5). o In Classic Pleasure classes, cross entering is allowed in all other English Pleasure and Pleasure Driving sections provided the toe and shoeing requirements of the horse are met and only if the prize list so states. (MO122.1 and MO127.1). o If Side-Saddle English tack is prohibited in English Pleasure or Classic Pleasure classes, then it must be stated in the prize list. (MO146.7). o For Morgan Working Hunter classes, the prize list must specify the fence heights of classes offered. (MO149.1). o For Morgan Working Hunter Under Saddle qualifying classes, if a competition offers more than one Under Saddle class, only one may count towards the Championship. The prize list must specify the class to count. (MO152.1). o For AMHA Medal Classes, post entries may be accepted if stated in the prize lists. (MO166.4). o For competitions offering AMHA Medal Classes, the prize list must refer to the class specifications outlined in Rules MO165, MO168, MO169, MO170, MO171, MO172 and MO173. o For competitions offering the Morgan Walk and section, the prize list must reference MO174 in the class specifications. o For Reining classes, Youth classes may be further subdivided by age at the discretion of show management; those splits must be printed in the prize list. (MO177.8a). o For Reining classes, show management may include classes not defined by NRHA or Federation rules; however, these other classes must be defined with class specifications and printed in the prize list. (MO177.9c). Revised 4/28/2020 2 o For snaffle /hackamore horse reining classes which are restricted to three, four and five and six-year-old horses. Classes may be single age restricted, or ages combined, but must be so stated in the prize list. (MO177.10b). o For a Non-Pro Reining Championship class, the prize list must specify which classes will qualify for entry. (MO177.10.d). o For Sport Horse In-hand classes, they may be held in any age groups deemed appropriate by competition management and published in the prize list with the exception that horses of one sex shall not be judged against those of the opposite sex. (MO178). o For competitions offering Combination Morgan Park Horses and/or Combination Morgan Pleasure Horses, the prize list must specify whether the rider and/or driver must be the same in both phases of the class. (MO202). o For competitions offering Morgan Trail Horses Western or English, the prize list must specify whether the horse is to be shown under Western equipment or English tack. (MO202.1). o For Beginner Leadline classes, prize list must specify if the class is to be judged. (MO202.16).

National Show Horse o One attendant, without whip, is allowed to head each entry in all driving classes. The attendant may uncheck and stand the entry on its feet. Attendants must be neatly attired and may be required to meet dress requirements set forth by individual competition managements, provided that such requirements are printed in the prize list. (NS105.4). o If stallions are to be prohibited from Ladies’, Junior Exhibitors’ and National Show Horse Equitation classes, then it must be stated in the prize list. (NS105.6). o For competitions offering English Pleasure Combination Classes, Country Pleasure Combination Classes, and/or Five-Gaited Combination Classes, the prize list must specify whether the driver and rider must be the same in both phases of the class. (NS128.4).

Hackney o If offering futurity classes, the prize list must state the procedures for conduct of these classes. (HK107.2). o For Hackney Horses, combined ownership is not permitted in harness classes unless specified in the prize list. It is not permitted to make an entry in the name of one horse “and mate”. (HK139.2).

Roadster o The ARHPA Roadster Horse ID application is available from the ARHPA or Federation office, or it can be downloaded from the ARHPA or Federation website or completed in the competition office. Competition management is responsible for notifying exhibitors of this requirement in their prize list. (RD101.1d).

Saddlebred o Competitions may offer classes restricted to and/or half-bred American Saddlebreds. The breed restrictions must be clearly published in the prize list. Half American Saddlebreds may not be shown in American Saddlebred classes with Purebred American Saddlebreds in the American Saddlebred and Half American Saddlebred division. (SB101.2). o Horses competing in all American Saddlebred Registry signature classes for horses three years old and under may not be stripped unless it is so stated in the prize list. (SB105). o Management must designate all qualifying classes for championships in the prize list per GR809.1. Management may state in the prize list that only certain classes qualify for the Championships. i.e., Amateur classes qualify for the Amateur Championships, Ladies classes qualify for Ladies Championships, etc. (SB109.1). o A stake class may either be a qualifying class for the championship or the final competition for a particular section. If run as the final competition for a particular section, competition management must indicate in the prize list if exhibitors are required to “qualify” in order to compete by listing all eligible qualifying classes (SB110). o For competitions offering 5-Gaited Performance Combination Classes, English Country Pleasure Combination Classes, English Country Pleasure Versatility Classes, and/or Western Versatility Classes, the prize list must specify whether the rider and/or driver must be the same in both phases of the class. (SB129.6).

Revised 4/28/2020 3 Shetland: o If cantering is permitted in Classic Carriage obstacle driving-timed classes, then it must be stated in the prize list. (SP135.a).

Welsh o Stallions maybe shown in Ladies and Junior Exhibitor unless the prize list stipulates otherwise. (WL115.1 and WL139.2).

Western Dressage o If shows choose to limit number of rides per horse and level, by more than the existing limit of no more than two riders, then it must be stated in their prize list. (WD102.5 and WD102.12). o All classes must be listed in the prize list including a tentative class schedule. (WD129.1 and WD129.5a). o Sections of a class are considered to be a separate “class” only if listed as such in the prize list. (WD129.3).

English Pleasure o Open Classes are open to professionals, amateurs, and junior exhibitors. Classes may be restricted (e.g. Amateurs, Jr. Exhibitors, Novice Rider, etc.) only if specifically stated in the prize list. A competition may offer up to 3 classes in each subsection of the Saddle Seat, Hunter Seat and Driving sections (e.g. 3 Amateur English Pleasure Hunter seat classes, 3 English Pleasure Saddle seat Geldings classes, etc.) however, only one class within each subsection and the championship within each subsection will count for HOTY awards for any one competition. The prize list must clearly state which classes count for Horse of the Year points. (EP105).
