List of horse breeds 1 List of horse breeds This page is a list of horse and pony breeds, and also includes terms used to describe types of horse that are not breeds but are commonly mistaken for breeds. While there is no scientifically accepted definition of the term "breed,"[1] a breed is defined generally as having distinct true-breeding characteristics over a number of generations; its members may be called "purebred". In most cases, bloodlines of horse breeds are recorded with a breed registry. However, in horses, the concept is somewhat flexible, as open stud books are created for developing horse breeds that are not yet fully true-breeding. Registries also are considered the authority as to whether a given breed is listed as Light or saddle horse breeds a "horse" or a "pony". There are also a number of "color breed", sport horse, and gaited horse registries for horses with various phenotypes or other traits, which admit any animal fitting a given set of physical characteristics, even if there is little or no evidence of the trait being a true-breeding characteristic. Other recording entities or specialty organizations may recognize horses from multiple breeds, thus, for the purposes of this article, such animals are classified as a "type" rather than a "breed". A Social and Cultural History of the New Zealand Horse A Thesis presented in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy In History Massey University, Albany, New Zealand Carolyn Jean Mincham 2008 i Abstract Both in the present and the past, horses have a strong presence in New Zealand society and culture. The country’s temperate climate and colonial environment allowed horses to flourish and accordingly became accessible to a wide range of people. Horses acted as an agent of colonisation for their role in shaping the landscape and fostering relationships between coloniser and colonised. Imported horses and the traditions associated with them, served to maintain a cultural link between Great Britain and her colony, a characteristic that continued well into the twentieth century. Not all of these transplanted readily to the colonial frontier and so they were modified to suit the land and its people. There are a number of horses that have meaning to this country. The journey horse, sport horse, work horse, warhorse, wild horse, pony and Māori horse have all contributed to the creation of ideas about community and nationhood. How these horses are represented in history, literature and imagery reveal much of the attitudes, values, aspirations and anxieties of the times. -

Anatomy and Physiology: Imaging-Related Anatomy, Normal Imaging Features and Physiology
ECVDI® Study Guide 2019 Introduction: The ECVDI Study Guide is a guide for ECVDI residents preparing for the theoretical board examination, and is intended to give an indication of topics that may be covered in the examination. Examiners will base their question selection on the Small Animal and Large Animal Exam Content Outlines. 100% adherence to the objectives in this document is not guaranteed. Anatomy and Physiology: Imaging-related anatomy, normal imaging features and physiology For the Large Animal Track, approximately 80% of exam questions will be related to large animal anatomy, with emphasis on the musculoskeletal system. For the Small Animal Track, approximately 95% of exam questions will be related to canine and feline anatomy and up to 5% may relate to other species. 1. General 1.1. Emphasis will be placed on canine, feline and equine anatomy and physiology. 1.2. Current anatomic nomenclature will be used in questions and expected in answers (Nomina Anatomica Veterinaria). 1.3. Current international nomenclature of radiographic projections will be used in questions and expected in answers. 2. General musculoskeletal system 2.1. Process of bone formation and growth. 2.2. A avaliação zoométrica desses animais em comparação a raças definidas pode predizer características herdadas ao longo de gerações. No presente experimento foram realizadas avaliações zoométricas (30 equinos de cada grupo) comparadas entre raças definidas Quarto-de- Milha (QM) e Mangalarga Marchador (ML) com equinos sem raça definida (ESR) de pequenos produtores rurais da região de Araçatuba, SP. Objetivou-se conhecer a morfologia das éguas do grupo ESR, possibilitando orientação futura dos acasalamentos genéticos, com a finalidade de tornar os produtos adaptados à função desejada. Os dados foram agrupados e expressos como média e desvio padrão da média. Para algumas variáveis como peso, perímetro torácico e largura de anca; os animais oriundos do grupo ESR, apresentaram menores comprimentos (P<0,05) quando comparados aos animais QM e ML. Foi calculado o índice Corporal (IC) e de Conformação (ICF), objetivando determinar a aptidão do animal. As éguas do grupo ESR indicaram serem animais médio-líneos e apresentaram menores (P<0,05) índices de conformação (1,98 ± 0,24) comparados aos animais do grupo QM (2,30 ± 0,12) e ML (2,17 ± 0,17) demonstrando não enquadramento à conformação deste grupo às funcionalidades de sela ou tração. -

ABSTRACT - This study used path analysis to establish the direct, indirect, and total effects of body linear and angular measurements on subjective morphological scores of the 247 Criollo horses that participated in their most important performance event, Freio de Ouro, in 2012. Freio de Ouro is the only event of the Criollo breed that considers morphology. Measurements of wither height, thoracic girth, cannon bone girth, body length, metatarsus length, croup length, shoulder width, head length, neck length, and upper neck girth, and the angles of rump, shoulder, and hock were taken. -
