Da über die Insektenfauna der ostbayerischen Grenzgebirge Oberpfälzer Wald und Bayerischer Wald bisher nur wenig publiziert wurde und aus der montanen bis alpinen Höhenstufe der bayerischen Alpengebieten nur wenige neuere Veröffentlichungen vorliegen, werden bemerkenswerte Funde der Lepidoptera, Tricho- ptera, Neuropteroidea, Ephemeroptera und Odonata, die im Rahmen der Kartierung der bayerischen Naturwaldreservate erfaßt wurden, erstmals publiziert. Die Nachweise, die eine große Zahl von Erstnachweisen und Wiederfunden enthalten, werden, soweit dies im Hinblick auf weiterführende Veröffentlichungen sinnvoll erscheint, kommentiert. Abstract: The higher altitudes of the Bavarian highlands host a montaneous determined insect fauna with numerous species of arcto-alpine distribution. Little data have been published so far from the East Bavarian mountain ranges “Ober- pfälzer Wald” and “Bayerischer Wald”, and only a few publications of recent date exist concerning the insect fauna of the montane and alpine altitudes of the Bavarian Alps. Therefore in this paper remarkable records—comprising a lot of first and again findings—of Lepidoptera, Trichoptera, Neuropteroidea, Ephemeroptera, and Odonata are published. -

Siccia shikatai is distinguished by grayish forewings with a thick and blackish antemedial line, a thin, dark brown and dentate postmedial line and a black <-shaped discal spot and grayish hindwing with a dark brown discal dot. Nudaria ranruna is distinguished by the whitish fore- and hindwings and a large, blackish discal dot and thick medial lines on the forewing. Pelosia angusta is distinguished by dark grayish fore- and hindwings and a thick, dark brown, curved medial line on the forewing. HAGEN1 1 Department of Environmental Studies, University of California, Santa Cruz, USA 2 Department of Entomology, The Natural History Museum, London, UK One prominent concern about genetically modified crops is the possibility of environmental impacts from the movement of fitness-enhancing traits to wild plant populations. Decisions to deregulate Bt crops in the USA have relied strongly on arguments that these crops will not interbreed with wild relatives in the permitted growing regions. Limited attention therefore has been directed to analyses of the consequences of gene flow. To provide a transparent evaluation process for risks associated with insecticidal transgene escape, we crafted a series of questions designed to guide this aspect of the risk assessment. We then explored the current knowledge base available for answering such risk-related questions for three Bt crops (cotton, rapeseed, and rice). First, we generated a list of wild relatives of these crops. A definitive list of potential transgene recipients is not yet possible for some crops. Sufficient data are not available for some crops to eliminate certain related plant species from consideration of fertile hybrid formation, thus making lists for these crops subject to speculation. Second, we queried the HOSTS database (UK) to obtain a worldwide listing of lepidopteran species that feed on these crops and their wild relatives, and to determine the host range of the larvae. -

Although such faunistic studies were conducted extensively in the region during the first decade of the early 20th century, there are a few new taxa, taxonomic revisions, misidentifications, and misspellings, which should be documented. We examined 1,276 species in 652 genera, 59 subfamilies, and 15 families. We propose 4 new combinations, namely Arichanna refracta Inoue, 1978 stat. nov.; Psyra matsumurai Bastelberger, 1909 stat. nov.; Olene baibarana (Matsumura, 1927) comb. nov.; and Cerynia usuguronis (Matsumura, 1927) comb. nov.. The noctuid Blepharita alpestris Chang, 1991 is regarded as a junior synonym of Mamestra brassicae (Linnaeus, 1758) (syn. nov.). The geometrids Palaseomystis falcataria (Moore, 1867 [1868]), Venusia megaspilata (Warren, 1895), and Gandaritis whitelyi (Butler, 1878) and the erebid Ericeia elongata Prout, 1929 are newly recorded in the fauna of Taiwan.
