Efter at have praktiseret denne nummerering i nogle år, droppedes dog betegnelsen "2. Michael Hansen (Formand for Entomologisk Forening) Leif Lyneborg (Redaktør af Entomologiske Meddelelser) 4 PREFACE The periodical "Entomologiske Meddelelser [Entomological Communications]" has been published by "Entomologisk Forening [Entomological Society]" since 1887, and is the oldest Danish entomological journal still in existence. Since its start, the purpose of the journal was to contribute to entomology in general and to Danish entomology in particular. The first 5 volumes appeared in the years 1887-1896 and included primarily Danish articles relevant for local entomologists. Subsequently, the journal got a larger size and gradually also achieved a more international content, including also articles in English, German, and other languages. This series of larger-sized volumes was termed "Entomologiske Meddelelser, 2. Række" and starts with a new volume 1. This new numbering of the volumes in combination with "2. Række" (= 2nd series) was in practice for some years, but was abandoned and replaced by a numbering where also the five volumes of the first series were considered. Up to ca. 1970 the journal published an increasing number of articles with an international scope, but from volume 39 (1971) a new policy was introduced, as it was decided to concentrate on articles in Danish on items relevant for the Danish fauna. From the same year each volume represented a single year rather than two or more, as earlier. Since its start, "Entomologiske Meddelelser" has published nearly 1600 original, scientific articles or smaller communications, nearly 500 book reviews, more than 100 biographies and obituaries over primarily Danish entomologists, and a few other communications. In order to better utilize the very substantial amount of published information in this journal, the board of "Entomologisk Forening" found it would be of help to the scientific community to prepare an index to what is published in "Entomologiske Meddelelser" from its start up to 1999, i.e., the first 67 volumes. Earlier, Henriksen (1918, Ent. Meddr 12: 45-64) published an index to the volumes appearing in the period 1887-1917. This index is, however, rather summarily arranged, so the board decided to include also the articles from this first period. The index contains the following sections: 1) publication dates for the various volumes and issues ("hefter"); 2) list of scientific articles and smaller communications (incl. congress reports), arranged alphabetically after author; 3) book reviews, arranged alphabetically after author of the book; 4) biographies and obituaries, arranged alphabetically after the person who is treated; 5) references to society reports; and 6) a subject index and an index based on systematic categories. In the list of scientific articles, - in addition to author and year - are listed the full title, reference to volume number (in bold) and page numbers, and an indication on the relevant biogeographical region(s). A major part (about two thirds) of the articles have relevance only, or mainly, to the Danish fauna, whereas about 13% of the articles deal with non-Danish Palearctic items. Papers on faunas of other biogeographical regions play a minor role. About one quarter of the articles deal with more general subjects of no particular geographic scope. The following geographical categories are used: DAN = Denmark (excl. the Faroes and Greenland) PAL = Palearctic region AFR = Afrotropical region ORI = Oriental region AUS = Australian region NEO = Neotropical region NEA = Nearctic region (incl. Greenland) 5 GEN = General In the sections with book reviews and personalia, the name(s) of the reviewers/authors name and year of publication are given in parentheses followed by volume number (in bold) and page numbers in "Entomologiske Meddelelser". In the subject index and in the systematic index only information on author(s) and year of publication is given; the additional information must be searched for in the main list of original articles and short communications. In the systematic list the references are arranged after orders; in the larger orders a more detailed arrangement (usually based on family names) has been made. A modern classification has been applied, although this may differ from the one used in the original papers. A number of persons

www.nature.com/scientificreports OPEN Rediscovery and reclassification of the dipteran taxon Nothomicrodon Wheeler, an exclusive Received: 07 November 2016 Accepted: 28 February 2017 endoparasitoid of gyne ant larvae Published: 31 March 2017 Gabriela Pérez-Lachaud1, Benoit J. B. Jahyny2,3, Gunilla Ståhls4, Graham Rotheray5, Jacques H. C. Delabie6 & Jean-Paul Lachaud1,7 The myrmecophile larva of the dipteran taxon Nothomicrodon Wheeler is rediscovered, almost a century after its original description and unique report. The systematic position of this dipteran has remained enigmatic due to the absence of reared imagos to confirm indentity. We also failed to rear imagos, but we scrutinized entire nests of the Brazilian arboreal dolichoderine ant Azteca chartifex which, combined with morphological and molecular studies, enabled us to establish beyond doubt that Nothomicrodon belongs to the Phoridae (Insecta: Diptera), not the Syrphidae where it was first placed, and that the species we studied is an endoparasitoid of the larvae of A. chartifex, exclusively attacking sexual female (gyne) larvae. Northomicrodon parasitism can exert high fitness costs to a host colony. Our discovery adds one more case to the growing number of phorid taxa known to parasitize ant larvae and suggests that many others remain to be discovered. Our findings and literature review confirm that the Phoridae is the only taxon known that parasitizes both adults and the immature stages of different castes of ants, thus threatening ants on all fronts. Ants are hosts to at least 17 orders of myrmecophilous arthropods (organisms dependent on ants), ranging from general scavengers to highly selective predators and parasitoids that attack either ants, their brood or other myr- mecophiles1–3.

Blagoev et al. BMC Ecology 2013, 13:44 http://www.biomedcentral.com/1472-6785/13/44 RESEARCH ARTICLE Open Access Spiders (Araneae) of Churchill, Manitoba: DNA barcodes and morphology reveal high species diversity and new Canadian records Gergin A Blagoev1*, Nadya I Nikolova1, Crystal N Sobel1, Paul DN Hebert1,2 and Sarah J Adamowicz1,2 Abstract Background: Arctic ecosystems, especially those near transition zones, are expected to be strongly impacted by climate change. Because it is positioned on the ecotone between tundra and boreal forest, the Churchill area is a strategic locality for the analysis of shifts in faunal composition. This fact has motivated the effort to develop a comprehensive biodiversity inventory for the Churchill region by coupling DNA barcoding with morphological studies. The present study represents one element of this effort; it focuses on analysis of the spider fauna at Churchill. Results: 198 species were detected among 2704 spiders analyzed, tripling the count for the Churchill region. Estimates of overall diversity suggest that another 10–20 species await detection. Most species displayed little intraspecific sequence variation (maximum <1%) in the barcode region of the cytochrome c oxidase subunit I (COI) gene, but four species showed considerably higher values (maximum = 4.1-6.2%), suggesting cryptic species. All recognized species possessed a distinct haplotype array at COI with nearest-neighbour interspecific distances averaging 8.57%. Three species new to Canada were detected: Robertus lyrifer (Theridiidae), Baryphyma trifrons (Linyphiidae), and Satilatlas monticola (Linyphiidae). The first two species may represent human-mediated introductions linked to the port in Churchill, but the other species represents a range extension from the USA.

In the Fort St James Forest District, in central British Columbia, Douglas-fir (Pseudotsuga menziesii Franco) (Fd) grows at the northern limit of its North American range. At the district level the species is rare (representing 1% of timber stands), and in the early 1990's growing populations of the Douglas-fir beetle (Dendroctonus pseudotsuage Hopkins) threatened the loss of all mature Douglas-fir habitat in the district.
