University of Tlemcen, BP119 13000 Algeria 2IMBE, CNRS, IRD, Aix-Marseille University, France *Corresponding author: [email protected] ABSTRACT A study on diversity of ground beetle communities (Coleoptera Carabidae) was conducted between March 2011 and February 2012 in the temporary pond: Dayet El Ferd (listed as a Ramsar site in 2004) located in a steppe area on the northwest of Algeria. The samples were collected bimonthly at 6 sampling plots and the gathered Carabidae were identified and coun - ted. A total of 55 species belonging to 32 genera of 7 subfamilies were identified from 2893 collected ground beetles. The most species rich subfamilies were Harpalinae (35 species, 64%) and Trechinae (14 species, 25.45%), others represented by one or two species. Accord- ing to the total individual numbers, Cicindelinae was the most abundant subfamily compris- ing 38.81% of the whole beetles, followed by 998 Harpalinae (34.49%), and 735 Trechinae (25.4%), respectively. The dominant species was Calomera lunulata (Fabricius, 1781) (1087 individuals, 37.57%) and the subdominant species was Pogonus chalceus viridanus (Dejean, 1828) (576 individuals, 19.91%). Received: 9 October 2020; Accepted: 28 October 2020; Published: 30 October 2020 Simple Summary: Several wood-associated insects are inadvertently introduced every year within wood-packaging materials used in international trade. These insects can cause impressive economic and ecological damage in the invaded environment. Thus, several countries use traps baited with pheromones and plant volatiles at ports of entry and surrounding natural areas to intercept incoming exotic species soon after their arrival and thereby reduce the likelihood of their establishment. In this study, we investigated the performance of eight trap colors in attracting jewel beetles and bark and ambrosia beetles to test if the trap colors currently used in survey programs worldwide are the most efficient for trapping these potential forest pests. In addition, we tested whether trap colors can be exploited to minimize inadvertent removal of their natural enemies.

  • A Genus-Level Supertree of Adephaga (Coleoptera) Rolf G
ARTICLE IN PRESS Organisms, Diversity & Evolution 7 (2008) 255–269 www.elsevier.de/ode A genus-level supertree of Adephaga (Coleoptera) Rolf G. Beutela,Ã, Ignacio Riberab, Olaf R.P. Bininda-Emondsa aInstitut fu¨r Spezielle Zoologie und Evolutionsbiologie, FSU Jena, Germany bMuseo Nacional de Ciencias Naturales, Madrid, Spain Received 14 October 2005; accepted 17 May 2006 Abstract A supertree for Adephaga was reconstructed based on 43 independent source trees – including cladograms based on Hennigian and numerical cladistic analyses of morphological and molecular data – and on a backbone taxonomy. To overcome problems associated with both the size of the group and the comparative paucity of available information, our analysis was made at the genus level (requiring synonymizing taxa at different levels across the trees) and used Safe Taxonomic Reduction to remove especially poorly known species. The final supertree contained 401 genera, making it the most comprehensive phylogenetic estimate yet published for the group. Interrelationships among the families are well resolved. Gyrinidae constitute the basal sister group, Haliplidae appear as the sister taxon of Geadephaga+ Dytiscoidea, Noteridae are the sister group of the remaining Dytiscoidea, Amphizoidae and Aspidytidae are sister groups, and Hygrobiidae forms a clade with Dytiscidae. Resolution within the species-rich Dytiscidae is generally high, but some relations remain unclear. Trachypachidae are the sister group of Carabidae (including Rhysodidae), in contrast to a proposed sister-group relationship between Trachypachidae and Dytiscoidea. Carabidae are only monophyletic with the inclusion of a non-monophyletic Rhysodidae, but resolution within this megadiverse group is generally low. Non-monophyly of Rhysodidae is extremely unlikely from a morphological point of view, and this group remains the greatest enigma in adephagan systematics.

Munis Entomology & Zoology, 9 (1): 245-253] ABSTRACT: The aim of this study is to create a Turkish Red List of the longicorn beetles. Moreover, presence such a Red List is necessary for Turkey. Even governmental evaluations could cause some erroneous decisions due to absence such a Red List. Since, governmental evaluations at the present time are based on the works that are realized with respect to the European Red List. Furthernore, Turkey appears a continental property changeable in very short distances in terms of climatical features and field structures. So, the status of European fauna and the status of Turkish fauna are not the same. Clearly, there is no any work that subjected to create a Turkish Red List. Hence, a series work is planned with this purpose. This type of study is the first attempt for Turkey. KEY WORDS: Red List, Conservation, Cerambycidae, Turkey The conservation of beetles has received a great deal of attention in many parts of the world in recent years. Human activities like growing cities, wood harvesting and global warming that destroy natural ecosystem threaten unique species day by day. So currently, a great deal of researches is aimed at conserving these organisms.
