Administrative/Biographical history: Civil parishes were established by the Local Government Act 1894. The civil parishes took over some responsibilities previously administered by the parish vestry. Rhydygwern (Rhyd-gwern) Civil Parish was formerly part of Machen ecclesiastical parish, most of which lay in co. Monmouth. In 1974, parish councils in Wales were replaced by community councils or town councils. Rhydygwern parish/community council, in Machen, Monmouthmouthshire, was dissolved in March 1985 CONTENT
