Father Ivan came with them to have another glass of wine and to warn them that right before five the fire should be extinguished for the three Hot Days. Mitzi ran to put few dozens eggs to be boiled, rushed the frozen bread into the oven and with the help of the girls finished cooking several vegetable dishes that could be eaten cold. Vesselin led the boys' team into grilling a mountain of meat while sampling it with some more Pilsner. At quarter to five, Konstantin went to tell his home snake that the fireplace would be cold for three days but its water would be there. He put out the fire in the oven, then the cooker and finally poured a bucket of water over the barrel that was used as a barbecue pit. The Hot Days started on time. It was an ancient tradition for all the fires to be put out and the household and fields work to stop for the three day in July - the belief was that three saints were responsible to oversee that it is done and punished the ones who did not obey by burning their crops. At the end of Saint Marina the Fiery a new fire would be started in a special way, the fireplace would be lit again with the young fire and not be extinguished for the entire year until the next Hot Days. May be the wise church elders had put the three-day restriction as the only way for the servants to have a break during the back-breaking work of mid summer and keep the people aware of the stormy days dangers, as it was almost certain that at least on one of the days there would be a thunderstorm. -

Russian Journal of Economics 4 (2018) 44–64 DOI 10.3897/j.ruje.4.26005 Publication date: 23 April 2018 www.rujec.org The Austrian school in Bulgaria: A history✩ Nikolay Nenovsky a,*, Pencho Penchev b a University of Picardie Jules Verne, Amiens, France b University of National and World Economy, Sofia, Bulgaria Abstract The main goal of this study is to highlight the acceptance, dissemination, interpretation, criticism and make some attempts at contributing to Austrian economics made in Bulgaria during the last 120 years. We consider some of the main characteristics of the Austrian school, such as subjectivism and marginalism, as basic components of the economic thought in Bulgaria and as incentives for the development of some original theoreti- cal contributions. Even during the first few years of Communist regime (1944–1989), with its Marxist monopoly over intellectual life, the Austrian school had some impact on the economic thought in the country. Subsequent to the collapse of Communism, there was a sort of a Renaissance and rediscovery of this school. Another contribution of our study is that it illustrates the adaptability and spontaneous evolution of ideas in a different and sometimes hostile environment. Introduction The emergence and development of specialized economic thought amongst the Bulgarian intellectuals was a process that occurred significantly slowly in comparison to Western and Central Europe. It also had its specific fea- tures. The first of these was that almost until the outset of the 20th century, the economic theories and different concepts related to them were not well known. -

Ivan Doeheff, President, Bulgarian National Front, Incorporated (BNFJ, an anti-Commu- nist Bulgarian emigre organization, advised Special Agents (SAS) of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) that about one year ago, he met captioned individuals who had escaped from Bulgaria and were admitted to the United States as con- ditional entrants. In an effort to help them, he and other members of the BliF sought employment for them in the New York City area. Although, they were offered jobs as laborers,they refused these offers, and it was soon obvious to Docheff that they were not interested in obtaining employment. After some.months, Docheff learned that Dotov and Todorov were meeting Bulgarians in the New York City area, and were keeping records of those they met and their Bulgari- an backgrounds. He also noticed that they were interested in having him dideuss domestic and international politics. When he refused to enter into such discussions, they told him they had "special wurk" to do, and were not only interested in gathering information about Bulgarians in this country but were also interested in information about political matters. At one point, they mentioned that they were gathering this information so they could check on Bulgarians in the United States who might, in the future, return to Bulgaria. International Web Journal Revue internationale www.sens-public.org Reality TV in Bulgaria: Social and Cultural Models and National Peculiarities MARIA POPOVA Abstract: The Reality TV appearance results from the media content changes, the infotainment development, the media use enlargement, the creation of quality, mass, thematic universal media products, sold at for low costs and for big profits. The Reality TV significant contribution is the discrepancy between public and private, the viewers’ possibility to see themselves and their problems into participants’ behavior. Although the Reality TV shows present voyeurism, scandal and conflict, media audience may control the program narrative. These programs are entertainment form, but they engage the society with charity, define the media agenda setting, and present definitive socio-cultural models, national peculiarities, which answer to the media audience needs, which are general as cultural sense and social behavior. There are different Reality TV forms worldwide. Most of them represent local edition for the local media audience. In Bulgaria the Reality TV started in 2004 and it has had significant influence of the media content ever since. The Reality TV places substantial problems at the media sphere, connected with media reliability, media post-colonialism, media manipulation, and media pluralism. The Communists and the Bulgarian .Orthodox Church, 1944-48: The Rise and Fall of Exarch Stefan SPAS T.RAIKIN For a long time before the communist takeover in Bulgaria on 9 Sep tember 1944, the Bulgarian Orthodox Church and the Communist Party had been in a state of open hostility. The Bulgarian communists held firmly to the Marxist view that religion is the opium ofthe people. They carried on agitation at every level to discredit religion and the Church-. Intellectuals were told that to hold any religious beliefs is to regress to superstition. For the peasants and working classes, the priest was reduced to an object of ridicule for his laziness and immorality, illustrated with many degrading stories. This campaign, waged largely by young men who had. received some education in provincial towns, was conducted primarily in village taverns and on street corners where peasant youth congregated in the absence of any other social outlets, and was highly successful. To this challenge the Church could not find an adequate response. The mutually exclusive philosophical positions of Church and communism deprived both Church and Party of any point of contact. They remained total strangers, completely opposed to each other. The Communist Party never tried to infiltrate the Church or to create its own following there. Unlike the Orthodox Church in Yugoslavia, where numerous priests found themselves in the partisan groups of Marshal Tito, the Bulgarian Church was conspicuously absent from the "Fatherland Front" organised by the communists as a front to take over the country in 1944. The Church was part of the political and social order in the country, and was dependent upon this order for its survival. -

Other profi t centres recorded strong performances as well. Luxembourg - 12 January 2012 In 2011, almost all of RTL Group’s families of channels and fl agship channels were once again able to increase their – already good – ratings. RTL Television in Germany recorded its best yearly average since 1997. M6 was the only major channel in France to increase its audience shares year-on-year. In the Netherlands, RTL 4 had its best ratings in 14 years, while RTL Belgium remained the leading family of channels in the country with audience shares stable at 35 per cent. Despite the ongoing fragmentation in Croatia, RTL Hrvatska was able to increase its combined audience share both in prime time and all day. In Hungary, RTL Klub not only was the leading channel but also broadcast all of the 100 most-watched programmes in 2011. Alpha in Ich bin ein Star – Holt mich hier raus! Greece continued to increase audience shares, Vox closed the year 2011 with an average while Grupo Antena 3 in Spain increased its market share of 7.3 per cent in its target combined audience share by 1.5 percentage audience of 14- to 49-year-old viewers. -

Post-Socialist Blues Within Real Existing Capitalism: Anti-Communism, Neoliberalisation, Fascism by Bozhin Stiliyanov Traykov A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Department of Sociology University of Alberta © Bozhin Stiliyanov Traykov, 2020 Abstract This project draws on Alex William’s (2020) contribution to Gramscian studies with the concept of complex hegemony as an emergent, dynamic and fragile process of acquiring power in socio- political economic systems. It examines anti-communism as an ideological element of neoliberal complex hegemony in Bulgaria. By employing a Gramcian politico-historical analysis I explore examples of material and discursive ideological practices of anti-communism. I show that in Bulgaria, anti-communism strives to operate as hegemonic, common-sensual ideology through legislative acts, production of historiography, cultural and educational texts, and newly invented traditions. The project examines the process of rehabilitation of fascist figures and rise of extreme nationalism, together with discrediting of the anti-fascist struggle and demonizing of the welfare state within the totalitarian framework of anti-communism. Historians Enzo Traverso (2016, 2019), Domenico Losurdo (2011) and Ishay Landa (2010, 2016) have traced the undemocratic roots of economic liberalism and its (now silenced) support of fascism against the “Bolshevik threat.” They have shown that, whether enunciated by fascist regimes or by (neo)liberal intellectuals, anti-communism is deeply undemocratic and shares deep mass-phobic disdain for political organizing of the majority. In this dissertation I argue that, in Bulgaria, anti- communism has not only opened the ideological space for extreme right and fascist politics, it has demoralized left political organizing by attacking any attempts for a politics of socio- economic justice as tyrannical. -

The New Press and Media Act in Hungary
The New Press and Media Act in Hungary At the end of December 2010 the Hungarian Parliament adopted a new press and media law which immediately aroused strong criticism in the EU states, OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe), and European journalist organizations for contradicting European ideologies. The Act came into force at the beginning of January 2011, when Hungary also assumed the EU presidency for the subsequent six months. A basic concern is how Hungary can participate in evaluating the progress of democracy in the candidate countries when it is moving away from democracy itself. The act, comprising 230 articles, establishes in the country a new body for media control, the National Media and Communications Authority, for monitoring the contents of all media, including the internet. Media Council is an independent body of the Authority. The Authority may stipulate regulations with respect to the behavior of the media. If it regards that the published information is not balanced, it has the right to impose a heavy fine to the media in question or even suspend its activity (see article 187 below). It may also oblige the media to reveal their source of information. The Act also gives quotas to European and Hungarian programmes and music in the public media (articles 20-22). The Act stresses respecting “family values,” a fact that has made the international sexual minority organizations suspicious. The Authority, as well as several other institutions, is led by Fidesz, the leading political party. Besides the Authority, the Act also stipulates the establishment of the Public Service Foundation governing the radio, the two national TV channels, and the news agency MTI. -
