To the Editor Walk to End Alzheimer’s was a success On September 19, more than 200 people laced up their shoes and took steps to end Alzheimer’s disease by participating in the Cedar City Walk to End Alzheimer’s. Teams with people representing families, businesses, service clubs, churches, and SUU filled trails and neighborhood streets throughout Iron County, and beyond. Team members walked for their parents, friends, and loved ones who have suffered from this disease, and because they want a cure. Their reasons for walking were heartbreaking and hopeful. Community support was overwhelming! More than $17,000 has been raised through donations and sponsorships, which support Alzheimer’s care, support and research. This includes our local support groups, national website, printed resources, and our 24/7 Helpline (800-272-3900). Thank you for your generous and timely giving. We are here to serve you!

What better use of businesses around town, decorated as the business 24th during the Cedar City Livestock and Heritage our time and resources than to help students learn chooses. It really is about the sheep. Festival. The sheep parade is only the beginning. Here is what Bruce Hughes, festival board member, tells me: There will be sheep dog demonstra- tions, a draft horse pull, an antique tractor pull, a kids’ pedal tractor pull, sheep shearing, and a ranch rodeo. This is a rodeo where the cowboys are real ranchers who compete in events that happen daily in a working ranch setting. Think branding. And of course, there will be food vendors, but alas, not a Dutch oven cookoff this year. Too many tasters elbowing each other out of the way around the big pots. All of the above, except the parade, will take place at the Diamond Z Arena off of Highway 56. In addition, there will be a quilt display in the lobby of the Heritage Theater and an event honoring the Grand Marshall, the folks at MBM Livestock, on Thursday. The newest and most exciting part of the weekend for us in the Cedar City Arts Council is an art contest open to all school children in Iron County. Our students in three categories—elemen- tary, middle school, and high school—are invited to submit original art work on the subject of livestock and local heritage themes. These drawings and paintings will be adjudicated and prizes awarded to first, second, and third place entries as determined 12 Wednesday, September 30, 2020 showcase Iron County Today Final Friday Art Walk IC Ama returns with caps summer season music in the park by Shay Baruffi from Jim Howells bring a chair or blanket for seating and are asked to keep Iron County Today For Iron County Today 6 ft apart from other house- The Cedar City Arts Council cele- Iron County Acoustic hold groups. by Shay Baruffi Iron County Today

Responsible Dog Ownership Day is a national event to help teach the public about the responsi- bilities of being a dog owner and help current owners improve their relationships with their furry friends. Owning a dog is never-end- ing cheerfulness, but we all need to be mindful about the responsibilities we have to our pets. This is the second Responsible Dog Owners Day that has taken place at the new Enoch PetSafe Dog Park. The day featured great events like a Dog Costume Contest, a Hot Dog Dive contest, an Agility Demonstration, a Come when Called Maze, and a Treat Catching Contest. They also offered microchipping for dogs at the Enoch Animal Shelter during the event. Festival Country K-9’s were on hand (or on paw) to provide a useful dog owner checklist for those respon- sible owners , including; nutritious food, fresh water, veterinary care, plenty of exercise, grooming & bathing, playtime & attention, training, proper I.D, and lots of love. “Dogs count on us to be their best friend and care for them properly. Dogs give unconditional love, are faithful and true. We owe it to them to be worthy of such devotion,” shared the Festival Country K-9’s. For more information about Festival Country K-9’s visit: www.
