I, too, received a type card from her last year.

Mine is on Tiffany and Co. paper with her name engraved in red on the front...and says exactly what someone else wrote awhile ago...I can't remember it line for line now...but it's something like "Thank you for your kind words. Fans like you make it all worth while" (it's a little longer than that, but you get the idea)..

I was just so surprised to receive anything back from her in the first place! Very classy woman :)

Having seen Bea's show a couple of times and after listening to the CD many times I can truly say that my favorite songs are Some People and . The emotion and energy she puts into the songs are unbelievable. I also like Where Do You Start but it is so sad to see her sing that one as well as It Never Was Him.

Going to see her again on March 24th.

#1240 From: "fiveninegal" fiveninegal Date: Thu Mar 14, 2002 10:43 pm Send Email Subject: Coincidence??

This is so strange...I just got cast in the play "The Musical Comedy Murders of 1940". I don't know if any of you know this play - but it's a very funny who-done-it...I'm playing Helsa the german maid who, as it turns out is really a female impersonator, who explains that "his" most famous impressions are of Marlene Dietrich, Josephine Baker, and ...Lotte Lenya!!!

Now, before I saw Bea's show - I had never even HEARD of Lotte Lenya. So it was so fabulous when I read that because I was like "Wow - I know who that is and what she sounds like!!!" (thanks to soundtrack...) Life is very amusing sometimes :) Thanks, Bea!

Yes, welcome Chris and other new members. I don't mind if you lurk at all, but it's always nice to get people's literate opinions, positive or negative, about Bea. That's why we are all here right!

Take care and hope to hear from you all soon!

I haven't posted on this yet so, here I go! My favorite songs in Bea's show are FIRST Pirate Jenny and SECOND Some People. Actually, Some People and Where Do You Start are probably tied for second with me. I love the way she gets emotional when she sings movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/andthentheresbea/messages/1231?l=1 3/7 3/25/13 andthentheresbea : Messages : 1231-1260 of 3145 songs like Where Do You Start. You can just tell it's so straight from the heart. Pirate Jenny is my favorite because I remember when I first saw the show and she was singing that song, I just remember being so very into that moment that I practically had chills going up my spine. It was so enthralling. Just awesome. Then when the song was over and the lights went completely dark....!

"And on it is me"......

Hi Jessica!

I definitely agree with you about her singing those songs straight from the heart. It's very touching.

And the more I listen to "Pirate Jenny" on my CD..the better I like it. I can't wait to see her perform it again live.

Also looking forward to hearing the Sophie Tucker story/joke...I don't recall that being a part of the show when I saw it in Thousand Oaks...

Oh this is cool, I can't believe it but watching an episode of Designing Women that I have never seen. And there playing Mame lol and Dixie is singing Bosom Buddies. How cool and it just made me think of Ms. Bea and Lucille Ball. I really think Lucille was better in it then Angela Lansbury even though I like them both well in Lucille case I liked her. Actually her and Ms. Bette Davis were my first idols in tv. Well see yea

Hello again.

fiveninegal, do you mind if I ask where you were able to find a recording of "Completely Yours"?

(I assume you were referring to a second-hand or auction source. The title has been out of print for a couple years. Though some sites such as Amazon still list it, after you order, you receive notice that it is no longer available.)

Hi there,

That's funny you mention that because just yesterday I received a very sad notice from Amazon saying they weren't able to get it :(

So, I guess Ebay is my next step if I want it.

I was very sad when I got that message!

No - even thought I knew they were on I also have them all on video - at least two copies of each and know that I can watch them at any time which I do a lot of! The episodes aired were also some of the most commonly watched and rerun.

Although I have them all on tape as well, I was still excited that a few episodes were going to air again....and I had planned on watching them....and then completely forgot!

I came in about 1/2 way through the 2nd part of "Maude's Dilemma" and watched "Vivian's First Funeral".

And then it was over :(

I'm glad I have my tapes if/when I want to watch more! :)

I am mad about this Mad About You been on all the time. What about you guys? I mean Designing Women or The Golden Girls haven't been on at Lifetime tv. I see that The Golden Girls will be on at 11pm but at 12am when DW usually comes on that other thing will be on. It makes me pissed and I hope it doesn't stay this way.

Lifetime was just airing a whole marathon of Mad About You today (Monday) because they are introducing it to their lineup. It actually is a pretty funny show when given a chance! :) but don't worry, according to the site Golden Girls should be back on the air tomorrow at its usual times.

It was nice seeing Maude aired on TV Land, even though I have those episodes taped! Bea is so great. I wish TV Land would add Maude back to their schedule, not just on their "Sunday Best". Oh well, I miss it, but for now my tapes will have to suffice!

Take care everyone. -Dana

I agree with you 100% -- Bea is GREAT!! :) It just always amazes me how completely different she is as Maude and Dorothy. It's so much fun to watch "Maude" and "GG" back to back and marvel in the glory that is Bea Arthur!

:)

Best to all, Christina

It looks like Comedy Central is giving us yet another Bea TV appearance to be thankful for. Bea is scheduled to appear on Frank DeCaro's "Big O" Oscar special, which will be televised on Comedy Central on March 20th at 10:30 p.m. (CT), right after "The Daily Show."

This page has a video preview of the show. Yes, it does include Bea.

Hi Christina! I completely agree - Bea has such amazing talent. Although Maude and Dorothy are both typically considered to be very strong women, they are very DIFFERENT characters and Bea plays each of them so convincingly! :) As you said, its so interesting to watch them back to back. Bea is simply great...I don't know how else to describe her! Well take care everyone! -Dana
