Kevin, I assume that you've got "Shoestring Revue" and "Shoestring '57" on vinyl. If you're interested in having them on CD as well, you can probably still order them from Painted Smiles records. I got my CDs from them early last year. They're wonderful, aren't they?
http://www.nydirector.com/PaintedSmiles/pscds.htm
Also, our favorite Bea appears on "Forgotten Broadway," another offering from Painted Smiles (but it's not listed in their catalogue). It's described as being "Excerpts of original cast performances of Broadway musicals" (it's supposed to be "New faces of 1956"). I don't know if it's available outside of a library or if it was ever released on CD. According to my research, she sings "There Goes My Life" from "A Mother's Kisses." There's also supposed to be a second volume (I don't know if that was released by Painted Smiles or not). She does "The Way I See It" from "Home Again, Home Again."
I've never heard either of these songs, nor have I seen the original albums. But I thought I'd pass the info on to you...

Also, be sure to tune in to "Malcolm in the Middle" this Sunday. I'm told that the episode with our favorite babysitter is scheduled to be repeated then.

movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/andthentheresbea/messages/271?l=1 2/8 3/25/13 andthentheresbea : Messages : 271-300 of 3145 Hello all. This is a preliminary list of resources I have compiled:
**************************************************
MUSIC:
Great American Songwriters -- Vol. 4: Irving Berlin
--song #8: "Let's Face the Music and Dance," sung by Fred Astaire
(This recording is apparently the second one that plays as the audience exits Ms. Arthur's show.)
CD may be available at your local library, in Popular Music section
Fred Astaire:
Let's Face the Music and Dance
--contains song "Let's Face the Music and Dance"
CD available at websites such as amazon.com
Rosemary Clooney:
Her Greatest Hits and Finest Performances
--disc 3, song #15: "Let's Face the Music and Dance"
(an uptempo version)
CD may be available at your local library, in Jazz section
Ruth Brown:
Blues on Broadway
(1989; includes covers of several Billie Holiday songs)
--contains song "If I Can't Sell It"
CD available at Coconuts Music, in R&B section
and Camelot Music, in R&B section
Gypsy
(1993; TV-movie musical soundtrack, with Bette Midler)
--contains song "Some People"
CD available at websites such as amazon.com
Judy Garland:
That's Entertainment
(1987 [originally 1960]; not to be confused with movie by same title)
--contains song "Some People"
CD available at several music shops
My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies
(recording of the PBS special hosted by Julie Andrews)
--song #8: "Some People," sung by Liza Minnelli
--song#13: "Fifty Percent," sung by Dorothy Loudon
CD available at Wherehouse Music (Blockbuster), in Soundtracks section
Ballroom
(Broadway soundtrack)
--supposedly contains song: "Fifty Percent"
CD available at websites such as footlight.com
( www.footlight.com/product.cfm?product_id=1942 )
**************************************************
VIDEOS:
I Could Go On Singing
(1963; movie musical, with Judy Garland)
--supposedly contains song "It Never Was You"
VHS available at websites such as amazon.com
Gypsy
(1962; movie musical, with Rosalind Russell)
--contains song "Some People"
VHS and DVD available at websites such as amazon.com
Gypsy
(1993; TV-movie musical, with Bette Midler)
--contains song "Some People"
VHS and DVD available at websites such as amazon.com
My Favorite Broadway: The Leading Ladies
(taping of the PBS special hosted by Julie Andrews)
--contains song "Some People," sung by Liza Minnelli
--and "Fifty Percent," sung by Dorothy Loudon
VHS and DVD available at websites such as amazon.com
Note: the original 1975 TV movie musical, Queen of the Stardust Ballroom, with Maureen Stapleton, apparently does not contain the song "Fifty Percent." If you would like to see it for the story and its other music by Billy Goldenberg, the DVD is available at websites such as amazon.com.
(There was also a 1988 TV movie called Ballroom, but it appears altogether unrelated.)

Now I need to sit down and further compile everything... Hopefully I'll get sometime this weekend to do so. Then start obtaining these pieces! I will definitely share them with everyone once I get everything!
Thanks again for the help!

Gosh Ironicwit, when you started looking into all of this did you ever expect it to turn into such a job! I didn't :) I'll definitely look into what Painted Smiles has to offer. Looks like a little digging, but it is great what you have found.
Take care and thanks for your help!

This might be a good time to develop a Bea Arthur discography for your main web site. It'd include musical stuff as well as spoken word recordings. According to this site, she appears on the second "All in the Family" album.

Great find Ironicwit.... and yes I do plan to put together a discography of Bea's work. I have just as much spoken work as musical work... which is just as entertaining. If you look at my list, Paula Poundstone and The Jewish American Princess is the all spoken.

No, Estelle didn't passed away. If so, we would have heard it on the Internet and all over American TV. She's sick with something that looks like Parkinson's disease.

I just thought of something else that I learned about recently. Ms. Arthur has recorded introductions movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/andthentheresbea/messages/271?l=1 4/8 3/25/13 andthentheresbea : Messages : 271-300 of 3145 to several of the audio books offered by Jewish Contemporary Classics.
http://www.jccaudiobooks.com/
http://www.boston.com/dailyglobe2/203/living/Jewish_fiction_from_shte\ tl_to_city+ .shtml
I've never heard any of these, so I can't offer any further details.
If you think about it, we know so little about her career (apart from the big stuff) that there are probably a number of other audio recordings that we don't know about. One of these days, Kevin, maybe you can upload the definitive Bea Arthur discography. I have yet to find one anywhere else.
