3 AWAKENED ARCHIVES - New music edition Radio Belgrade, which celebrated its 80th anniversary last year (2009), and the Institute of Musicology, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2008, have started a new collaborative project ‘Awakened Archives’. The two institutions have joined their professional forces in order to preserve and popularise music by Serbian composers. -

Constantinople was purpose-built, a landmark not even the mightiest ‘barbar- ian’ warlord could hope to efface. With its numerous market places, massive walls and monuments such as the Golden Gate proclaiming a New Jerusalem and Christian triumph, the ‘God-protected city’ was a showcase for displays of wealth, social cohesion and military force. These material blessings were attributed by the palace ceremonies, art and orators to the piety of the emper- ors and their subjects – often termed simply ‘the Christians’ in the ceremonial acclamations – and to the empire’s central role in God’s plan for mankind. Constantinople itself was under the special protection of the Mother of God. In the medieval era Mary was venerated ever more dramatically in return for safeguarding her city,wonder-working icons such as the Hodegetria being paraded regularly through the streets in her honour. Even furthest-flung outsiders could make the connection between Byzan- tine prosperity, striking-power and religious devotions. From his Orkney van- tage point, Arnor the Earl’s Poet viewed God as ‘ready patron of the Greeks and Garð-folk’.1 These ‘Garð-folk’ – Rus – had collectively come under the care of the patriarch of Constantinople, when in or around 988 their ruler, Vladimir, received a Byzantine religious mission and was himself baptised. -

Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Regard to the People's/Socialist
genealogy Article Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Regard to the People’s/Socialist Republic of Macedonia until 1991 Jovan Jonovski Macedonian Heraldic Society, 1000 Skopje, North Macedonia; [email protected] or [email protected]; Tel.: +389-70-252-989 Abstract: Every European region and country has some specific heraldry. In this paper, we will consider heraldry in the People’s/Socialist Republic of Macedonia, understood by the multitude of coats of arms, and armorial knowledge and art. Due to historical, as well as geographical factors, there is only a small number of coats of arms and a developing knowledge of art, which make this paper’s aim feasible. This paper covers the earliest preserved heraldic motifs and coats of arms found in Macedonia, as well as the attributed arms in European culture and armorials of Macedonia, the кing of Macedonia, and Alexander the Great of Macedonia. It also covers the land arms of Macedonia from the so-called Illyrian Heraldry, as well as the state and municipal heraldry of P/SR Macedonia. The paper covers the development of heraldry as both a discipline and science, and the development of heraldic thought in SR Macedonia until its independence in 1991. Keywords: heraldry of Macedonia; coats of arms of Macedonia; socialist heraldry; Macedonian municipal heraldry 1. Introduction Macedonia, as a region, is situated on the south of Balkan Peninsula in Southeast Citation: Jonovski, Jovan. 2021. Europe. The traditional boundaries of the geographical region of Macedonia are the lower Heraldry in Macedonia with Special Néstos (Mesta in Bulgaria) River and the Rhodope Mountains to the east; the Skopska Crna Regard to the People’s/Socialist Gora and Shar mountains, bordering Southern Serbia, in the north; the Korab range and Republic of Macedonia until 1991. -
Bibliografija Knjiga
CROATICA U GODINI 1 970.: BIBLIOGRAFIJA KNJIGA J elena O čak I) UVODNE NAPOMENE A 1. To znači: PRVO. Osim djela hrvatskih književnika u bibliografiju ulaze i sve one knjige kojima je predmet hrvatska književnost. Knjiga Jana Wierzbickog o pro blemima hrvatsko-poljskih literarnih veza i utjecaja (Z dziejovv chorwacko-pol- skich stosunkow literackih w vvieku XIX) nije rad hrvatskog, nego poljskog knji- ževnika-znanstvenika, ali ona mora postati jedinicom ovako zamišljene biblio grafije.

Publication Date 1995 Peer reviewed eScholarship.org Powered by the California Digital Library University of California Ivo Andric Revisited: The Bridge Still Stands Edited by Wayne S. Vucinich Description: Ivo Andric won the 1961 Nobel Prize for Literature for an extraordinary body of fiction and poetry rooted in the politics and cultural history of the Balkans. Andric drew on his formal studies, political activism, diplomatic career, and extended residence in Bosnia, Croatia, and Serbia to explore the human links that have united the region, to argue that conflict is not inevitable, and to lay the basis for a unified Yugoslavia. Today, Andric is claimed by all Yugoslavs as their greatest literary figure, but tragically missing the point of his work, often criticized by each group for not championing its own particular cause. This volume explores many facets of Andric: the artist immersed in both the written and oral South Slavic literary traditions developing his own unique narrative style; the humanist examining the relationships of victimization, grief, shame, and art; the anthropologist analyzing the role of women and the dynamics of gender relations; and the historian peeling through the layers of local traditions and historical experience. -
