ABOUT US

Palakkad Division is spread across the State of , a small portion of . and the Union territory of Pudussery. The division serves 8 Districts. Division starts from in the East and stretches up to on the West Coast to on the banks of Bharathapuzha river. The 306 km long, Shoranur-Mangalore section serves the important of Mangalore, , and along the west Coast. Palakkad Town--Kinnattukadavu section was added to the Division on 01.11.2007

Mechanical Branch of Palakkad Division is headed by Senior Divisional Mechanical Engineer and two Assistant Divisional Mechanical Engineers, one at Palakkad and the other at Mangalore. There are six C&W depots under the control of Sr.DME/Palakkad. The Divisional C&W wing is provided with 56 supervisors and 597 Group C staff.

Division consists of two Coaching depots, one at Mangalore Central and the other at Shoranur. Other mechanical depots in the division are Mangalore Junction, Kannur, Kozhikode and Palakkad. Mangalore depot is the first IMS certified depot in Southern Railway . 442 coaches are primarily maintained here. The Division is providing Railway owned linen with the bedrolls in AC coaches of six express trains originating from Mangalore Central. Boot laundry is in the pipeline at , Mangalore for catering for washing of linen. On board Housekeeping services (OBHS) are provided in 4 trains.

Shoranur Depot are primarily maintains 84 coaches. This depot is certified for QMS ISO 9001:2008 since 2013 . IOH of coaches including overhauling of bogies is being undertaken here. A Bio toilet lab is set up here for meeting mandatory checks of Bio Toilets. Clean Train station is introduced at SRR depot which attends 37 trains per day.

Mangalore Jn. is dealing with freight maintenance activities including 2 rakes of BOBRN wagons as Closed circuit rake. A clean train station facility is provided at Mangalore Jn. for cleaning 15 through express trains coming from and going towards . All the toilets are cleaned using high pressure jet cleaning machines. High pressure jet cleaning facility is available at Mangalore Jn, Mangalore Central, Cannanore and Palakkad for cleaning the platform turn round trains.

There is one Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) with three coaches and one Accident Relief Train with three coaches and two wagons are available at Mangalore Central. ART with three coaches and three wagons attached to the 140-Ton crane is available in Shoranur Depot. A self-propelled accident relief train (SPART) with three coaches is also available at Shoranur for immediate movement to the accident spot. This will cater to the urgent needs of Palakkad and Trivandrum Divisions.

Six major Running Rooms are available in Division, viz. Palakkad with 73 beds, Shoranur with 53 beds, Calicut with 30 beds, Cannanore with 34 beds, Mangalore Central with 63 beds and Mangalore Jn with 64 beds. There are two mini running rooms also, one at with six beds and the other at Charvathur with 3 beds. Maintenance of all the running rooms including cooking and serving of food are entrusted to agencies on service contract basis. All the Running Rooms except Nilambur and Charvathur are provided with three times subsidized meals. Well hygienic kitchen and dining halls are arranged. Man- to-man basis linen changing is arranged for all occupants of running rooms. Recreation facilities like Music system, Carom Board, Chess Board, etc. are provided in all the running rooms. Meditation rooms and Yoga facilities are available in all running rooms.
