Sixth Grade Music Choice Boards

1) Select 3 of the following 9 choice boards for the entire quarter 2) Make a list, take a picture, or record yourself demonstrating the 3 activities of your choice 3) Share the document with me, either in Google classroom, Gmail, or my school email address

Have fun and be musical! Music Choice Boards Information Music class will be a recorded lesson in Google classroom that students can view at any time. Students are encouraged to watch and participate to the best of their ability.

In addition to watching the videos and participating, students will be given Choice Boards that they may select 3 activities of their choice to complete for the quarter.

You can type your answers, take a picture, or send a video of yourself completing the activity to your music teacher.

After you have researched your 3 musicians, listen to at least 3 songs by each musician. What did you think of their music? Would you listen to them again? Would you recommend their music to your friends? Can you see some of their musical elements in the music you listen to today? Choice Board #2: Acoustic vs. Electric Guitars

Compare and Contrast the similarities & differences between the electric and . You can make 2 columns for each and list your answers.

Think of the music you listen to and try to determine if there is any guitar.

Complete your research online. Youtube would be a great place to start and search for songs that the primary instrument is acoustic guitar.

Then do the same for electric. Genres would be classical, rock, jazz, blues, metal, flamenco and reggae, just to name a few.

After observing the instructional video from your teacher, find 3 acoustic guitarists and 3 electric. You can go on Youtube and listen to, as well as watch them. Please tell me their names and an example of their playing. You can share Youtube links in your response. You can use the same process as you did for the songs. Listen to at least 5 different songs of each of the following guitarists: Chuck Berry Eddie Van Halen

1) Write down the 5 song selections you listened to in its entirety for each guitarist. 2) Explain how Chuck Berry could have influenced Jimi Hendrix 3) Explain how Chuck Berry and Jimi Hendrix could have influenced Eddie Van Halen 4) Describe how the sound of each guitarist is different, and how the style of playing has evolved through the years.

On your own, research at least 2 other guitarists of your choice, from any genre of music. Listen to several of their songs. Once you have a good understanding of their style and music, answer the following questions: How is their playing similar to that of Chuck Berry, Jimi Hendrix, and Eddie Van Halen? How are they different? Can you hear in their playing how they were influenced by the above guitarists?

When you have listened all of the music and answered the above questions, please submit your answers to your music teacher. Happy listening!!

A disc jockey (DJ) is a person who plays recorded music for a live audience. Most common are radio and club DJs, who use record players, usually turntables, to manipulate sounds on records. Nowadays, DJs mix recorded music from any source, including cassettes, CDs or digital audio files on a CDJ or laptop.
