SteinmetzVolume 78, Number 7, Special Senior Issue Star Valedictorians Fanny Reyes and Saul Zamora share #1 spot Congratulations Class of 2013 By Michael Amaya

anny Reyes and Saul Zamora share the prestigious title of valedicto- Frian. They’re extraordinary people, whose motivation and hard work pro- pelled them to the top. Fanny and Saul were part of the In- ternational Baccalaureate (IB) program. Both earned all A’s except a single B dur- ing their four years at Steinmetz. The rigorous coursework of IB is time consuming enough, but Fanny and Saul also participated in sports. Fanny ran track, cross country, and worked out in cardio club. Saul played baseball and softball, and was a member of the swim team. “Sports were a stress relief,” Fanny said. Saul said that the things he learned from competing in sports added to his competitive drive in academics. Not only did competition push them to be number one, but their teachers and parents pushed them to do well in school. Saul attributes his success in part to the promise he made to his father after 8th grade to be the best. Fanny said her parents always wanted her to do her best but never pushed her to be on top of the class.
