Cipolla, lasciò in bozze la massima parte di questo terzo volume e la prefazione. E già da parecchio tempo, mal- grado ogni sforzo di volontà, egli non poteva dar più alla revi- sione della stampa e alla soluzione dei dubbi incontrali le cure necessarie. L'ufficio di Segreteria dell'Istituto ha dovuto perciò attendere esso a rivedere le bozze del carme de Scaligeroriim ori- gine, dei Carmina minora, dei Frammenta, ddVAppendix e della pre- fazione, valendosi per queste ultime parti dell'autorevole consiglio del dotto vicentino monsignor Domenico Bortolan, amico del Ci- polla. Quanto alla prefazione che, come la lasciò l'editore, non era se non una serie d'appunti schematici che andavano poi com- pletati, ordinati e fusi organicamente insieme, la Giunta dell'Isti- tuto ha creduto opportuno di darla quale fu lasciata, limitandosi solamente ad ordinarne le parti, a ritoccarla ed a modificarne la forma ove ciò sembrava indispensabile. Stimò anche oppor- tuno staccarne due capitoli relativi l'uno alle fonti biografiche, l'altro alla tomba e alla genealogia di Ferreto, i quali è da spe- rare possano essere pubblicati, come una memoria separata, nel Ballettino, non appena sia possibile rivederne sugli originali la parte maggiore che consiste in documenti e brani di documenti. L'indice, per incarico della Giunta, fu compilato dal cav. Ro- molo Ducei. Sono in corso di stampa le edizioni della Traditio Padue ad Canem Grandem e del Ludovicus Bavarus; le riviste «Filologia mediolatina» e «Italia medioevale e umanistica» hanno ospitato negli ultimi numeri alcuni importanti contributi sulla storia della tradizione delle opere storiografiche del Mussato, dedicati in particolare al De gestis Henrici septimi Cesaris e al Ludovicus Bavarus. Fuori dal campo d’indagine era finora rimasta la seconda grande opera storica del Mussato, il De gestis Italicorum post Henricum septimum Cesarem, che presenta una situazione testuale ed editoriale particolarmente complessa. Solo parzialmente pubblicata nel Seicento e nel Settecento, affidata per più della metà della sua estensione a un solo mediocrissimo testimone, trascritto in edizione diplomatica all’inizio del Novecento, l’opera è rimasta quasi del tutto ignorata dagli studiosi. La mia tesi di dottorato vuole iniziare a dissodare questo campo incolto, realizzando l’edizione dei primi quattro libri dell’opera.

Lane, and his principal historical interests focused on northern Italy during the Renaissance, especially on Padua and Venice. during thE rEnAiSSAncE His scholarly production includes the volumes Padua under the Carrara, 1318-1405 (1998), and Culture and Politics in Early Renaissance Padua thE LEgAcy of BEnJAMin KohL (2001), and the online database The Rulers of Venice, 1332-1524 (2009). The database is eloquent testimony of his priority attention to historical sources and to their accessibility, and also of his enthusiasm for collaboration and sharing among scholars. Michael Knapton teaches history at Udine University. Starting from Padua in the fifteenth century, his research interests have expanded towards more general coverage of Venetian history c. 1300-1797, though focusing primarily on the Terraferma state. John E. Law teaches history at Swansea University, and has also long served the Society for Renaissance Studies. Research on fifteenth- century Verona was the first step towards broad scholarly investigation of Renaissance Italy, including its historiography. Alison A. Smith teaches history at Wagner College, New York. A dissertation on sixteenth-century Verona was the starting point for research interests covering the social history of early modern Italy, gender, urban elites, sociability and musical academies.

Solo duravano le ostilità col duca d’Austria, che negli accordi di Torino non aveva parte, e sebbene il consumo delle merci e delle vettovaglie spedite all’esercito padovano, lo sguazzare di que’ soldati vincenti e depredanti fruttasse profitto alle ragioni dei cittadineschi commercii, pure la pace era il desiderio di tutti, e volevasi tolta ogni rimembranza di quella misera condizione, che per cinque anni aveva lacerata la città ed il territorio. Ma Francesco scorgeva di mal occhio Trevigi in mano del principe austriaco, ne ricordava la fresca amicizia, e sempre più gli cuoceva vedersi rapire una città vicina a cadere dopo i lunghi sforzi di lui e i gravi spendii operati. Pertanto rinforzava egli le sue genti nel trivigiano e lo discorreva alla nimichevole; seminava discordie entro la città stessa, v’impediva il trasporto delle grasce da tutto il paese serrato tra il Piave e il Musone, vi pretendeva diritti: in somma ai Trivigiani volgevano male sorti, molti stavano per abbandonare quella patria infelice, ed erano iterate le istanze loro di soccorso a Leopoldo.
