2006 Lincoln Amateur

December Club Meeting Wednesday, December 13, 2006 7:30 PM @ Li-Cor Inc. 4647 Superior Street 50 ton boat anchor – 200 kilowatts on 17.2 kiloHertz – the 18,000 meter band The Alexanderson Alternator in Grimeton On June 2003 Richard Lorenzen and his wife Jeanne visited the only Alexanderson Alternator yet in operation, in Grimeton Sweden. At 12:40 pm. On 29 June Richard was allowed a turn at the Morse code key while the Alternator was transmitting. The Alexanderson Alternator was built in 1922 for commercial radio communication with the , where the receiver was located at Rocky Point Long Island New York. The Alternator was designed by Swedish Engineer Ernst Alexanderson, ( born 1878, died in Schenectady New York 1975. Between 19xx and 19xx 22 Alexanderson Alternators had been built and were in transmitting service in a number of countries around the world. Today the Alexanderson Alternator installed in 1924 at Grimeton Sweden is the only remaining Alexanderson Alternator in operation. Built by and marketed by Radio Corporation of America (RCA). The transmitter SAQ (the callsign of the Alexanderson Alternator) utilizes an alternator instead of vacuum transmitting tubes to produce the radio frequency energy which is routed to the antenna. The Alternator remained in service through the 1970’s, carrying Morse code traffic at speeds of 80 words per minute. The Alexanderson Alternator in Grimeton Sweden transmits with a power of 200, 000 watts on the 18,000 meter band on special occasions several times a year for demonstration purposes and as of the summer of the year 2003 the Swedish Government was making application to the United Nations United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization for inclusion of the Alexanderson Alternator station on the world heritage and gained that inclusion to the list on 2 July 2004. Richard Lorenzen’s amateur radio call sign is WAØAKG. Richard is a slug-a-bed and ne’er- do-well born sometime in the previous century and has held an amateur radio license continuously for 45 years and is 39 years of age. His first amateur radio call sign was WNØAKG issued in September 1961. Jeanne’s call sign is General Class KBØQDB, issued in 1994. What did he send ? Did Richard remain in Sweden for two years following, as a guest of the Swedish Government because of what he sent? Only those who attend the next meeting of the Lincoln Amateur Radio Club on 13 December 2006 will learn the terrible truth. WHAT'S HAPPENING!!!
